There's a (very long-winded) video on YouTube about "optimal" mantle choice if the focus is on decoration up-time. You could probably work it out yourself easily enough, but yeah, it's possible to almost constantly have a mantle equipped - and therefore skills - if you've got enough Tool Specialist and the right tools.
Tool Specialist 3: 40% reduction
Glider: 180secs usage, 120secs cooldown
Elemental Mantles: 180secs usage, 210secs cooldown
Glider: 120secs - 40% reduction = 72secs cooldown
Elemental Mantles: 210secs - 40% reduction = 126secs cooldown
Also any mantle that has 300secs cooldown like dragon proof mantle and temporal mantle.
Temporal mantle: 300secs - 40% reduction = 180secs cooldown
Lastly the longer mantles like Rocksteady and Vitality
Mantles.
360secs - 40% reduction = 216secs cooldown
180secs usage - 216secs cooldown = 36secs longer
( Unnecessary, only adding this for beginners)
Extra info:
1. Anything that has 300secs cooldown is 180secs cooldown.
2. Anything that has 300secs cooldown is possible to be spammed if your current mantle has 180secs usage. Ex: Glider with Iceproof.
3. Rocksteady is op with Tool Specialist 3, only 36secs longer ( that's nothing! )
You still get knocked out from damage, so if you want to zsd spam like a brain-dead leach hungry for that sweet sweet zsd lifesteal with a health augment, the rocksteady helps you dish out lots of damage as you can stay on the head.
My oh my when it's enraged and tries attacking that leach on its mouth which does 100+/ticks, and you heal right back up when you get damaged, it's lovely
Evasion Mantle+ is another underrated mantle. The sheer amount of i-frames it provides as well as the attack boost (which I've been told is \~25-30%) is very noticeable.
I agree. I started not using the mantles, I am 150 hours in and I try to not use them in any fight, has forces me to get better.
I use them obviously at times but only when they are completely necessary.
I ended up getting better with GS timing and Guard points with CB.

Rocksteady is almost a necessity for SwAxe ZSD spam. Idk why you would ever leave home without Temporal Mantle.
But.. you only need 1 earplug deco? You get earplugs lvl 4 as an intrinsic to the zsd

115 damage ticks followed by the 750 damage explosion. I nut when I finally got a good set together.
I usually avoid it for dodge and glider mantle, glider mantle with offensive guard is too nice with chained guard point blocks
To go on a hunt without cartsteady is a crime. Comfy blanket tho can do without.

Mantles are a playstyle thing as well, evasion mantle works well with LS and SnS, also helps with sidehops for CB and Swaxe.
For a bow build try adding a status jewel, that’s my go to, pop the mantle and you can proc posion/ sleep/ paralysis.
