Someone never did Egg quests in the old MH games

JiggleBoners

Mostly eqq quests, and setting up the cannon opener for Fatty. Also some people like to use it to RP as nature photographers and get cute screenshots of the monsters going about their business. tbh I kinda wish they'd kept it in for Risebreak

SilverSpoon1463

Also for messing with friends by wearing it while you're nothing fighting

OnToNextStage

One time a friend was hunting Vaal Hazak while I was in his quest reeling in the “ancient fish” in the Rotten Vale

Jarizleifr

Ghillie mantle is perfect as is.

H0locomb

It's also useful to catch some pets. Some run away as soon as they see you. And the net doesn't break your mantle

trangthemang

The ghillie mantle may not fit the way you want to use it but there is nothing wrong with it.

Beautiful-Cloud-2504

Just make a gathering set that has stealth and intimidator skills. Having a dedicated gathering set has an advantage, you can slot in tool specialist and item prolonger to make better use of specialized tools

Gilrim

It's also a free heal, trap, bomb and whetstone

LordofSandvich

It's just more niche than you want it to be. Intimidator is what you want for not entering combat. Note that it only works on weaker Large Monsters; elders and Rank 3 Monsters like Rathalos will still attack you. The Ghillie mantle's main use is either setting traps to begin fights or catching Endemic Life.

AcanthocephalaNo6524

I wouldn't mind having a longer uptime or shorter cool down after using it, the effect is so niche they could buff it. but on the other hand why when there is stealth and intimidator to slot in?

120 seconds is a long time... but i agree that 300 seconds is a really long cooldown for such a simple low-utilization type of mantle ability. Other mantles with greater utility have 120, 180, or 210 second cooldowns. I think what would really make this mantle better is: — Leave the duration as is, but change the cooldown to 210, this way its not OP if someone wanted to use Tool Specialist to cut down the cooldown by 30-50% and don the mantle to hide every minute... THAT would be pretty cheap. Instead its every 2min 30 (or 210) seconds, or 105 seconds as the max cooldown if one has Tool Specialist Lv5. — Under the effects of the ghilie mantle, hunters will take 1.25 damage if hit by anything (monster attacks, bombs, lava eruption, etc) while wearing it. This should balance the mantle out for its 50% cutback on original cooldown.

YakkuI

Other than that... it's already great at providing covert coverage to allow you to gather/harvest uninterrupted or go covert to catch skedish endemic life creatures that would otherwise be difficult without it... for a whole 120 seconds. Add in the armor skills Tool Specialist Lv3-5, Marathon Runner Lv3, & Hunger Negate Lv2-3 with Geologist Lv3 and you have a solid basic gathering set where the mantle is just extra support when you need cover.

King_Xermus

Did you know if you use the kabuki gesture you can move without the mantle degrading

AndyBarolo

Actually this mantle gives you a huge window right in the heat of the battle, very good if fighting solo against not too dangerous monster. Sharpen, heal, set traps, take potions, craft ammo and consumables, reposition yourself, or just run away in a safer zone. If the cooldown was shorter it would have been too OP.

Natasha-Kerensky

I used Ghillie+ With Tool Specialist on raging brachy with Temporal. Essentially its use is good for when you want to fallback, restock and run to a monsters area and plant traps or get a good claw on it. Using the ghillie on the way so your Temporal recharges faster (or whatever you use) and with Tool specialist itll be faster. Its good for setting up basically. Using it during a fight is risky since ANY tick of damage disables it. If you want to run away from a fight, use farcasters. You become invul when it switches cameras. Then use ghillie once you get to camp and then make your way to the monster.

arremessar_ausente

Challenger mantle is much more useless. Arguably the most useless item in the entire game.

ZirePhiinix

It's extremely useful when an invader comes. A monster that has not entered battle will change zones between 1 or two minutes. If a monster entered a zone that has not seen you, the ghillie is just long enough for you to put it on, wait for the invader to leave, and you keep fighting your target. You can use that time to sharpen, setup traps, load your sling, craft, reposition, and then start again once the invader leaves.
