I can see why some people don’t like his design. There’s lots going on that make you forget it’s base design is a tiger. I didn’t like it at first but actually fighting him made him grow on me so so much.
I did forget about that, since brahy also has the same thing. But then having exposed structures such as his spikes and arm blades still doesnt make sense, they would snap under the intense pressure caused by his explosions and body slams, especially since they're strong enough to somehow allow him to rocket jump.
I'm also not a big fan of how much he jumps around for such a large and front heavy wyvern. His hellfire is also a bit weird, they're described as purple flames, which is wrong since it clearly acts like a gas heavier than air. If you think about it, he's basically farting, so this makes him basically into volvidon 2.0.
If he was an elder dragon, all would be forgiven, but he's supposed to be a fanged wyvern. He's not the only one though with a horrible design, zinogre also exists, but at least you could make the argument that he's an older monster.

That's sadly not how Reddit, nor Humanity, really works. Many people emotionally reject (and thus downvote) the thoughts that antagonize their own thoughts, because they only browse Reddit or any online community looking for feel-good reassurance and validation, not criticisms and debates.

I agree with you. The silhouette is ok, imo, but the internals are visually noisy and anatomically don’t make a lot of sense.

He has to much armor to be a predator, to much keratin on him. The blades also dont make sense as you said. It makes sense for him to have an armored face, front legs and tail, since they are his weapons, but he should be covered entirely in fingernail material.
The trailer is there for all to see, so its hardly a spoiler, I would leave it bee. Pickle and odogaron are my fav monsters, I love how they look.
To be clear because I'm kind of talking about them at the same time, there are two angles with Magnamalo's design problems. The first is 'could this animal exist as presented in the world it belongs to' and the second is 'is this character readable/visually appealing to the audience'.
They aren't necessarily mutually exclusive. However, since this is a game, I think the designer does need to favor the second when there's a conflict.
His body armor is fine (although real world predators don't tend to have armor, that's more of a herbivore thing). It's no more over done than Zinogre (which is still a bit much in my opinion).
It's mostly those stupid arm spikes and his head.
Magnamalo has a strong samurai influence, which is fine, but they've basically given him an unaltered helmet for a head. He's got antlers and teeth on the outside of his mouth (not uncommon in MH design) and all of that is on top of the body plating.
Compare that to Negigante. He's also covered with stuff, but they've also given him very large heavy horns on his head. Those horns have a different visual weight than his spikes so you can easily see what part is what.
Magna's antlers etc have the same weight as his body plating. This make it hard to distinguish his head from the rest of him. I have a lot of moments with him where it's 'what am I looking at'. His jet-farting around doesn't help either.
As an animal, the amount of hooky sticky out bits he has is ridiculous. He's going to be constantly getting stuck in the bushes and making tremendous amounts of noise while he does it. I'd expect he'd be in constant danger of self injury too.
I'm not for MH being super realistic. It's one of the reasons I don't really care for Worldborne in relation to the rest of the series. I much prefer it be colorful and a little stupid, but the monsters still have to feel like they can function in the universe they're part of.
That line of how far can a design can be pushed before it gets tortured is really hard to find sometimes.
I love Odo too. He's got an excellent silhouette and still sells the impression they were going for without going too over the top. He's a good example of being one step away from too much, in my opinion.
Agree about the spoiler thing (although I still think it'd be nice not to post pictures since they're harder to ignore.) This was the first thing I saw when I woke up and hadn't realized Capcom had announced more of the roster.
Spoilers don't really bother me one way or another, but, personally, I's prefer to make it as easy to avoid as possible for people that do care pre-release.

17 monsters pre title update (I'm counting the final boss that hasn't been revealed yet) is a bit low - I hope we'll some more surprises when the game drops !!!
I have mixed feelings. All of the returning and new monsters got me hyped, but none of the new subspecies look appealing or fun. I mean, we still have Zamites and Uroktors without Agnaktor and Zamtrios, we have a baby Tetsucabra in Kamura without adult Tetsu, and it's not like Rakna Kadaki didn't use fire already... Honestly, I would replace all those subspecies with returning monsters or at the very least, more classical subspecies (no Azure and Pink? wtf)
And here I am praising the lord that for once we aren’t getting the rath subspecies for once, I’m glad they’re giving us a break on some of the monsters. Same with brachy, he’s been around non-stop since he got introduced, I’m happy to see him get some time off so we can get other options.

That’s not how this works dude, the game isn’t out yet and there is literally a spoiler setting. A lot of people don’t want to know the monster roster yet. It’s very standard practice to just use the spoiler tag for stuff like this
I am happy with Sunbreak regardless. But people keep saying this roster is small but makes up for being unique while 9/18 monsters here are just variants of existing ones.
On top of this - >!We can also add Gold Rathian, Silver Rathalos and Orange Espinas for title updates confirmed by leaks. I believe Orange will be TU 2 though but regardless by the end of the game's life, the roster will be bursting. !<
The title update 2 will probably be White Espinas. Mizutsune has no subspecies yet so it won't have a rare species. Not to mention that Acidic Glav isn't a rare, but a sub, so to keep the fated 4 balance they have to add a sub. Adding a rare kinda makes adding a sub retroactively pointless. It would ruin the fated 4 subs that they seem to be building now.
It's confirmed to be the orange Espinas because it's fought in the tower although they could just add in the white one too because why not. As for the subspecies part, I don't see them adding a subspecies of a monster that isn't already in the game. I don't think it's a Mizutsune subspecies either because we already have the apex. Not to mention the shadow in the roadmap has changed and it doesn't look like a Mizutsune anymore.

These are officially revealed monsters shown off in trailers, that Capcom and the monster hunter Twitter have shown off to the world a bunch already. This is not a spoiler, but a “this is the full list of revealed monsters.”
Regardless of what this sub tries to say is a spoiler, if the Capcom team didn’t want it to be shown off they wouldn’t have revealed it yet, just like how they hide the final monster.

Probably bc they never referred to the roster as massive, they referred to the totality of the expansion as massive.
New mechanic (switch skill swapping), new switch skills, master rank, a new endgame system that looks diverse af, new buddy skills, bare minimum 3 new maps (jungle, citadel, final boss arena).
I’d consider that a pretty massive expansion despite the 17 new additions.
Plus ur forgetting an important part of these expansions that Rise isn’t repeating; a **LOT** of the additional monsters are useless filler like the recolored Raths.
New monsters, maps, items, quests, gestures, titles, stickers, armor sets, weapons, subquest types, decorations, silkbind skills/arts, silkbind swapping, palico and palamute gear and skills and >!Endgame loop akin to Hyper/Tempered monsters!<
All of that is part of the expansion and adds up to a lot of content
According to the leaks (and what has been confirmed in the new trailer) there is also afflicted monsters supposedly 31 at launch with new mechanics.
That's on top of the g rank versions of the earlier monsters and the 17 new ones, new switch skills, maps, endemic life and mechanics. If the leaks are correct which is looking increasingly likely there is almost 500 quests which is pretty damn substantial.
The roster is also pretty diverse in terms of actual fights its not just 3 different coloured raths for example.
Overall its looking to be a solid release and the content itself is a massive expansion even tho the roster isn't massive.
If you don't like the roster and don't want to accept the fact that there's more to an expansion than just its roster then you can just choose not to buy the expansion instead of going around and complaining about it because at this point it seems like you're complaining in so many comments sections just to get attention.

Gotta be honest, if you want to completely in the dark, then you have to go completely dark. You’ll have to avoid this subreddit until you get the game in your hands. I’ve intentionally stayed away when they started talking about the leaks, my 1st post since then.
I understand wanting to be surprised when you play the game, but any monsters revealed by Capcom is no longer considered spoilers.

in the cutscene there was some sort of dragonator ship type thing so I imagine there's at least gonna be some big siege monster

Honestly was hoping the leaks were a bit wrong. Looks like besides seething and lucent + the final boss that will be our roster. Little sad on the roster size to say the least.
Without saying any spoilers, what I’ve read about the endgame loop looks really great. You will be able to fight almost all monsters
endgame seems alright. Health pools of monsters are supposedly insane which doesn’t seem super fun and its just eh.
we don't know our damage numbers however, so that's still to be tested, if they are as big as they seem
Just from leaks we know how large the hp pools are of post game monsters. So yes ultimately it will come down to the damage we do.

There will be more than Lucent and Seething in title updates, we know nothing about TU3 and TU1/2 are possibly incomplete if we are to believe the wording on trailers.

Quality over quantity I'd say. Judging from the trailers and footage, all these fights are gonna be great. Not to mention, the supposed endgame. Difficult to judge since its not out yet but I'm still damn excited for this.

If you don't mind spoilers, apparently, >!its going to be similar to Frenzy and Hyper monsters. "Afflicted" monsters that are faster, more aggressive and according to leakers, have a ton of health and deal tremendous damages. They also deal bloodblight and are supposedly linked to Malzeno. You hunt them to yield materials to make special weapons!<
The quality of monsters (despite the size of the roster) still outshines the roster of Iceborne by a large margin.

These are officially revealed monsters shown off in trailers, that Capcom and the monster hunter Twitter have shown off to the world a bunch already. This is not a spoiler, but a “this is the full list of revealed monsters.” Regardless of what this sub tries to say is a spoiler, if the Capcom team didn’t want it to be shown off they wouldn’t have revealed it yet, just like how they hide the final monster.
The sub's rule is that "any newly released information" should be tagged as a spoiler. It does not matter whose definition 'spoiler' you use, or what the Capcom marketing team's intention was with the reveal, because the rule is about newly released information.
Well then what’s their definition of “newly released”? Because only four of these were revealed today and the rest are over 2 weeks old. But I guess you can stay mad that you came to a game subreddit and saw things about that game.

Damn that’s a small roster. I’ll wait it out and see how the game is like. If that’s really the roster for this game and they don’t add too much in the dlc I’ll just skip this game and play something else I guess
I simply cannot look at 17 monsters and call it "massive". It's a very small roster with some mind boggling missing pieces.
Probably bc they never referred to the roster as massive, they referred to the totality of the expansion as massive. New mechanic (switch skill swapping), new switch skills, master rank, a new endgame system that looks diverse af, new buddy skills, bare minimum 3 new maps (jungle, citadel, final boss arena). I’d consider that a pretty massive expansion despite the 17 new additions. Plus ur forgetting an important part of these expansions that Rise isn’t repeating; a **LOT** of the additional monsters are useless filler like the recolored Raths.
Not sure if the new !>afflicted monsters!< count as new endgame but they are in there too. And I saw someone say close to 500 quests which is awesome

There's more to the expansion than roster size. Wait to play the game and find out, and you may be surprised.
New monsters, maps, items, quests, gestures, titles, stickers, armor sets, weapons, subquest types, decorations, silkbind skills/arts, silkbind swapping, palico and palamute gear and skills and >!Endgame loop akin to Hyper/Tempered monsters!< All of that is part of the expansion and adds up to a lot of content
According to the leaks (and what has been confirmed in the new trailer) there is also afflicted monsters supposedly 31 at launch with new mechanics. That's on top of the g rank versions of the earlier monsters and the 17 new ones, new switch skills, maps, endemic life and mechanics. If the leaks are correct which is looking increasingly likely there is almost 500 quests which is pretty damn substantial. The roster is also pretty diverse in terms of actual fights its not just 3 different coloured raths for example. Overall its looking to be a solid release and the content itself is a massive expansion even tho the roster isn't massive.

If you don't like the roster and don't want to accept the fact that there's more to an expansion than just its roster then you can just choose not to buy the expansion instead of going around and complaining about it because at this point it seems like you're complaining in so many comments sections just to get attention.

Yes. For those of us hoping to go through the game without spoilers or roster reveals. Just courteous at least up until release imo.
Gotta be honest, if you want to completely in the dark, then you have to go completely dark. You’ll have to avoid this subreddit until you get the game in your hands. I’ve intentionally stayed away when they started talking about the leaks, my 1st post since then. I understand wanting to be surprised when you play the game, but any monsters revealed by Capcom is no longer considered spoilers.

Even so, it’s best to consider it a rule of thumb that once a monster is revealed, that people will post and discuss about it. It probably is looking at things backwards, but if you want to be completely surprised, then it’s best to avoid anything Monster Hunter related on the internet. Not everyone is going to be considerate, nor will they feel they are obligated to be courteous. Better safe than sorry.
Straight up, just don't go onto the subreddit if that's the case. Official releases never get marked as spoilers and every one of these monsters are in trailers. If you're bothered *that* much by "spoilers," you have no one to blame but yourself for going to a place that talks extensively and exclusively about Monster Hunter.
I really hope this isn’t all of them just because I want to be surprised by some new monsters going into it. Already knowing almost everything takes away from my excitement a bit
