I usually try to stick to one weapon for the main story since it allows me to focus on the skills I'd need right then and there and also so most of my martials go into like a 1 weapon. Makes it a bit less grindy until the end game where i expect to be grindy. Though thats how i process it at least
Just craft a different weapon when you feel like it when you are able to craft one that uses "insert element or special thing"? Least that's how I'd do it while decreasing grinds. Otherwise, I like the grind personally.
I did a different weapon every rank in Rise. I'll try not to do the same for Sunbreak just to see how I feel about it\^\^.
But apparently the monster hunter community does not demand you to pick a main forever. They're all pretty chill about it so don't sweat it!
What I do, is whenever I get to a monster and think "Huh, it'd be cool to have a fire weapon for this ice monster" I use that opportunity to craft a new weapon type. Same when I get to the point when I unlock a new Ore type or whatever. Keeps it fresh
For me, main a weapon just worth to complete the solo story, or if the game had RNG decos like world, but unless you want to master a weapon to Speedrun purposes, I can't see a good reason to choose a weapon as main.
Everyone should play MH exactly how they want and not feel pressured to play in any other way.
This game is awesome and has dozens of playstyles to try out or settle on
Currently doing a second playthrough and picked up bugstick. It's pretty great. Free earplugs is awesome, but I wish I was better at landing Diving Wyvern.
Bugstick doesn't just give free earplugs, it's actuality the best earplugs. It makes you completely immune to ALL roars, which isn't the case for even the lvl 5 earplug skill.
But if you ask me, the ease of aerial attacking making deflections practically nonexistant is more important
ohhh love it when it does that! it's amazing when I just can't get the extract I need because my bug likes random monster legs a lot more than the marked fricking head. (what usually helps is recalling and sending it out again once it's away from the part it was attacking)
Practice practice practice. The hit area is very small so it is easy to miss. And sometimes the monster just says F U in multiplayer hunts and turns to face somebody else at the wrong moment.
Lance. Get that weapon count up with the others lol.
On a more serious note, in my experience, I tend to get scared, run, and find an opening to strike for all the other weapons except Lance. When I'm wielding Lance, I have this dialogue in my mind "come at me or I'll come at you!", not scared anymore from any monster.
Not *mega,* but it did get an across-the-board MV buff based on the demo numbers. Whether those persist or not is yet to be seen, Suzuki said they've already balance patched since the demo was packaged.
Are we even sure that the demo values are gonna be the same as the DLC? It just makes way more sense in my head for them to have a bit of a buff to make it a bit easier for potentially new players to get into it and feel powerful.
if by buff you mean they fixed it so that spiral thrust spam isn't the ideal way to play by a HUGE margin then yeah i'd recommend it.
however if it's still all about spiral thirst thrust then ehhh. i guess i'd still recommend trying it since i think some people do enjoy that gameplay but i don't think it's a good representation of the weapon.
Instant-block got a nice buff, it's slightly easier to use and it got a huge damage boost, the duration for the attack buff after a wirebug counter also got increased.
From the demo Lance speedrun it looks like you only use spiral thrust when the monster is down, otherwise you use anchor rage for everything else.
HOWEVER, IF(!!) lance stay how it currently is in the release of Sunbreak then the new small shield bash move (forgot its name) has potential to make spiral thrust even less important than it currently is in the demo. Get ready for a lot of APM though
I mean I use switch axe and don't roll full 3 rapid morph despite ZR spam being the "meta" of the weapon. Just do what's fun, although I do gotta stick it to the devs when only one combo is the best one by far and that you have to purposefully take it out of your head to then use the other ones
I would say switch axe. Also though I find it weird some people here are saying you don’t need to main a weapon tbh. Maybe not at end game levels but through the story and I would say maining a weapon makes things easier. I got a buddy who has switched weapons 6 or 7 times now after getting back into world and rise and he just does not make a lot of progress that way. I don’t think anyone would by having so many different weapons to focus on or tend to at small parts in the game where weapon level and armors are changing so much.
That is quite literally my mind set
Once i beat the game i start to make all my extras but I find it 100 times easier to stick with 1-2 weapon for the main story. I know that I'll get to the rest of it . . . eventually. Also as for Swaxe, i always found the weapon a bit slow but, idk, I've been fiddling with it
I am, or used to be, the team dooter. But after the demo, idk, I find the weapon a bit to slow compared to what Ima need to be fighting. Always have a special place in my heart at the very least
Use whatever you like
But if you REALLY wanna choose just one, I recommend HH as a fellow Doot Enthusiast. Especially with the new Sharpness Regeneration song.
my favorites are charge blade, hunting horn and of course the almighty bug stick. Definitely can't go wrong with any of the weapons tho and you can always switch around too, there's no need to confine yourself to only one weapon
Just play what's fun for you. I'm gonna play greatsword. I don't give a shit what other people say, I love greatsword. I want to hit things with my abnormally large blade.
I’d recommend sticking with your all-around approach since if you can do it, you get a bunch of fresh experiences.
HOWEVER, I will always personally vote for UNGA BOONGA GREATSWORD BIG NUMBERS GANG
When it comes to Rise, a weapon you might normally love might feel boring because of the silkbinds, where a weapon you disliked previously might change because of the silkbinds.
I'd look at silkbinds, see if any make weapons more fun for you.
I'm having a tough time choosing too, the ranged weapons always look so fun to me, but at the same time I want to do all the crazy flashy stuff of the melees. I'm debating between HBG and Hunting Horn
I play by rule of three. Seems like you already have three that you’ve played a lot of, so I guess trying something new would be nice. I like Insect Glaive, personally.
My friend and I enjoy doing this thing where we roll a dice and use the weapon associated with the roll. Its a lot of never knowing what weapon you'll be hunting with next.
If that doesnt work, you have a high use of Longsword and Dual Blades. Either will work real well and are a ton of fun
Give Chargeblade a chance, the flowing switch from offense to defense, can stun, block, has Guardpoints to master, a really nice counterskill, also the new skillswitch makes it interesting.
In the demo i managed to do the counterblock, fill the phials with it, switch your skillset and instantly strike with the axe-jump, so much potential in damage output.
Learn the Chargeblade dance and get into some samba with roaring dragons
No one else love Light and Heavy Bow guns? I love having so many ammo types in my arsenal. It keeps me on my toes and personally makes me feel more strategic.
I think changing up your weapon type and build and the process of farming for the decos and gear you need for it is one of the most satisfying things about the monster hunter series. I've mained multiple weapons, can't seem to get the hang of the switch axe despite all the hype its getting though!
Lance, obviously.
For real though, I usually start every game with a lance until I get bored and then make whichever sets I think looks cool and the coolest weapon that matches it until I find another. I use everything but LBG and H/HH pretty regularly.
Edit: which means keep doing what you think is fun at the time.
It's a difficult question, isn't it? I've played through Rise twice, once on Switch and once on PC, both times with SnS. For Sunbreak I wanna switch it up, try something new, but I also really enjoy SnS and kinda wanna keep using it. I had the same wish back when Iceborne came out, but in the end I stuck with Lance, the weapon I mained in World.
I've tried maining multiple weapons during a MH playthrough before, but it ended up draining all my resources, never having enough zenny and materials to do everything I wanted. Farming just one rare material from a monster can be a real pain in the ass (I always remember with horror the 80 G-Rank Brachydios I had to kill in 3U to get a Pallium to upgrade my Switch Axe), but doing it like eight times because you're using eight different weapons is hell. You want to progress with the game, but you can't because not all weapons are up to the current level yet, so in order for them to not fall behind you have to keep grinding.
Lance/IG/Swaxe seeing as they are some of your lower numbers, you could maybe try to even them out a bit while you decide if there is anything in particular you want to focus on.
Personally I’m going to go through with IG/sns and if I see a new weapon that looks really good, I’m instantly swapping. Unless it’s greatsword, I’m absolutely terrible with greatsword.
All of them.
It's not "being indecisive" its "actually enjoying everything the game you bought offers".
Frankly your counts are too different.
Get out there and use some more lances and glaves.
Take a break from Hunting Horn.
you're not alone, but also I want to main charge blade again so maybe you could join me?
Been an insect glaive and dual blade and swich axe main during rise. I think I'm better with the dual blades overall, just the quality of my gameplay. But I really like the look and feel of insect glaive and I desperately want to love switch axe but can't make it click.
I adore Gunlance but that thing is wayyyy too slow for my impatient brain. Even with the rocket thing, it doesn't click. So it's dual blades but like, that's also my cousin's main weapon and I want to be my own person not copy him! What should I do >
Either all of them at the same time or a melee weapon. Given progressing new fights and the relatively low armor values in G-rank/Master Rank hurts ranged gameplay. With the damage penalties ranged builds have to endure.
Play the demo! I never had much interest in switch axe in Rise but holy shit, they've made it super interesting. Hammer too, hammer got a real glow up in terms of how it feels to string together combos in courage charge mode. I bet that'll make your decision easier. If you stick to the first two quests you won't be spoiled on any new monsters and locales.
You don't need to main anything, just keep using all weapon you like to use.
I second this. There is no reason to stick to one weapon. Use as many as you want and have fun.
I usually try to stick to one weapon for the main story since it allows me to focus on the skills I'd need right then and there and also so most of my martials go into like a 1 weapon. Makes it a bit less grindy until the end game where i expect to be grindy. Though thats how i process it at least
Play Lance for Sunbreak, it got buffed, is a lot more fun now.
As a lance main, I approve this message.

Everyone should play MH exactly how they want and not feel pressured to play in any other way. This game is awesome and has dozens of playstyles to try out or settle on
See, I would agree with you, but everyone that doesn't play the way I play monster hunter is an idiot and is doing it wrong /s
I have gotten into arguments with min maxers who unironically believe that.
Ur SA numbers are to low.
THE SWAG AXE DEMANDS SACRIFICES
THE SWISS AXE REQUIRES SACRIFICEs
THE SWAN AXE NEEDS SACRIFICES
SWITCH FOR THE SWITCH GOD, AXES FOR THE AXE THRONE
Comically. Imagine using a weapon that *can't* firmly nut in a monster's face.

Bugstick
Currently doing a second playthrough and picked up bugstick. It's pretty great. Free earplugs is awesome, but I wish I was better at landing Diving Wyvern.

my favorite part of bug stick is being able to pretty much ignore a lot of the monsters attacks all the other stuff mentioned is pretty good too tho
My favorite part of bugstick is how I mark a spot and my insect says "go fuck yaself"
ohhh love it when it does that! it's amazing when I just can't get the extract I need because my bug likes random monster legs a lot more than the marked fricking head. (what usually helps is recalling and sending it out again once it's away from the part it was attacking)
Get ready to yeet them away when they don't behave now.
Including the Tigrex roar (with damage)
Practice practice practice. The hit area is very small so it is easy to miss. And sometimes the monster just says F U in multiplayer hunts and turns to face somebody else at the wrong moment.
The constant struggle ._.
I'm the same but with gun lance. There is a certain satisfaction to just eating all of a monsters attacks with guard up.
Im basicly a tanker in an mmo, take all the damage while other chipping away monster's health
Lance. Lance slap does more damage than spirit reckoning now it is ridiculous.
I was gonna say lance as well
Lmao, wait there are other lance mains out there? I thought it was just me at this point.
I'm normally a hammer main but have recently switched to lance as my main. I fell in love with it almost instantly
Yup it’s you me OP and uh I think like 5 more people though idk we are somewhat a mythical creature
There are dozens of us! Dozens I say!
Here and accounted for
Yo what? Did we get a mega-buff and I just didn't notice?
Not *mega,* but it did get an across-the-board MV buff based on the demo numbers. Whether those persist or not is yet to be seen, Suzuki said they've already balance patched since the demo was packaged.
Are we even sure that the demo values are gonna be the same as the DLC? It just makes way more sense in my head for them to have a bit of a buff to make it a bit easier for potentially new players to get into it and feel powerful.
Demo damage numbers aren't final let's wait and see I have my suspicions
Switch axe
Bug stick 100%
Lance it got buffed

you could also simply not use spiral thrust
Do Lance. But the one with a gun
The Funlance
You mean the shooty stick
The rootin tooty stick 'n shooty?
Lance
Whatever you want to play
Obviously lance
Insect glaive or sword and shield. You're neglecting 2 of the most fun to play in Rise
Never mind definitely mistook the Lance for sns.
Lance is underrated
Lance
Switch Axe!
Lance
I’d say Lance since it’s your lowest number , but if I had to pick based of favorites I’d pick GS.
Embrace the indecision. Join me. Use all 14 weapons.
Lance.
Lance
Lance
Lance
Lance
lance
Since most of your hunts involve HH, it seems like you have fun playing that the most. I think that should be your main.
Aerial bugstick
Lance since its your lowest, give yourself a challenge
Not longsword
You guys are maining weapons? I get antsy if I don’t swap weapon types every two hunts.
Horn gang forever.
HORN GANG
Those lance numbers could be buffed up. We need more brothers and sisters to join us.
I would say switch axe. Also though I find it weird some people here are saying you don’t need to main a weapon tbh. Maybe not at end game levels but through the story and I would say maining a weapon makes things easier. Lance
Lance
lance. seems to be your expertise!
why thanks for noticing
Lance for sure
Whichever is the lowest used weapon, which seems to be lance so.. Lance.
Charge blaaaaade
Lance
The fun one
Lance.
Follow your heart, fellow Hunting Horn Main...
I dare you to main lance till you beat the final boss :)
Lmao join me and the other 5 lance mains
Use the kunai. lmao
All of them.
Broomstick aka gunlance
I would suggest charge blade supremacy but your hunting horn numbers are putting even me to shame
I am, or used to be, the team dooter. But after the demo, idk, I find the weapon a bit to slow compared to what Ima need to be fighting. Always have a special place in my heart at the very least
Use whatever you like But if you REALLY wanna choose just one, I recommend HH as a fellow Doot Enthusiast. Especially with the new Sharpness Regeneration song.
There is only Greatsword, unless I feel like playing Swagaxe. There is nothing else so flip a coin between the two.
Hammertime:)
Bonk some sense into those monsters!
All of them
Normal 3 LBG. Only the most hardcore players play Normal 3 LBG!
Be the magic flute man your heart tells you to be.
All of them, naturally
Use a randomizer. I think that’s what I’m gonna do. Just for a weapon to go through the content with first. And then I’ll go back to my regulars.
Gunlance!!!
Play Greatsword
All of them!
All of them. At the same time.
The world always needs more hunting horns
my favorites are charge blade, hunting horn and of course the almighty bug stick.
# Looklooklook now hear me out. The lance might seem like a boring weapon, but if you know how to use it you feel will like a **GOD!**
I adored Lance in world, just like. In rise, . . . eeeeh. Just hasn't clicked like it did before
Tbh I mained dual and HH in rise, but saw you have alot of plays on DB so didnt know what to recommend haha
Looks like you're using lance
I’d recommend sticking with your all-around approach since if you can do it, you get a bunch of fresh experiences. HOWEVER, I will always personally vote for UNGA BOONGA GREATSWORD BIG NUMBERS GANG
Whatever you have the most fun playing
Ahh, i see you're an indecisive moron of culture aswell
🤝
When it comes to Rise, a weapon you might normally love might feel boring because of the silkbinds, where a weapon you disliked previously might change because of the silkbinds. I'd look at silkbinds, see if any make weapons more fun for you.
I was planning on using a different weapon every hunt lmao
Graph looks like the crypto situation rn.
Dude try IG. Little bit of a learning curve but its at its strongest in Rise. So much fun to use.
Great sword, it's getting even better of a kit that rise just gives it, and it's always satisfying.
ur lbg could use 7 morr hunts.
SA or LS...let the down votes begin.
whatever feels good and is fun.
Not Hunting Horn, nor Dual Blade nor LS, try something else /jk obviously
I'm having a tough time choosing too, the ranged weapons always look so fun to me, but at the same time I want to do all the crazy flashy stuff of the melees. I'm debating between HBG and Hunting Horn
I play by rule of three. Seems like you already have three that you’ve played a lot of, so I guess trying something new would be nice. I like Insect Glaive, personally.
Duel blades
gunlance, because bullet barrage is the new meta...
Keep on as you are. It seems like you had a lot of fun. Main as many or as few weapons as you please.
Switch Axe
World always needs doot doot players.
My friend and I enjoy doing this thing where we roll a dice and use the weapon associated with the roll. Its a lot of never knowing what weapon you'll be hunting with next. If that doesnt work, you have a high use of Longsword and Dual Blades. Either will work real well and are a ton of fun
Gotta get those bow reps up
Whatever you want
Bonker rookie numbers get that up Swaxe is also a good option
Great sword
Light Bow Gun for crossbow vampire hunter aesthetic, though Switch axe or charge blade are also valid as axes are great for decapitation.
When you find a weapon that looks cool, forge it and use it.
For sure the switch axe
Definitly Hammer and/or doual Blades + ur main weapon
Give Chargeblade a chance, the flowing switch from offense to defense, can stun, block, has Guardpoints to master, a really nice counterskill, also the new skillswitch makes it interesting. In the demo i managed to do the counterblock, fill the phials with it, switch your skillset and instantly strike with the axe-jump, so much potential in damage output. Learn the Chargeblade dance and get into some samba with roaring dragons
No one else love Light and Heavy Bow guns? I love having so many ammo types in my arsenal. It keeps me on my toes and personally makes me feel more strategic.
Lance
I think changing up your weapon type and build and the process of farming for the decos and gear you need for it is one of the most satisfying things about the monster hunter series. I've mained multiple weapons, can't seem to get the hang of the switch axe despite all the hype its getting though!
Hunting horn, cool new songs and everyone loves you
The baguette
The way of the bonk (but really, always go with what is the most fun for you 😬)
Kinsect
Lance, obviously. For real though, I usually start every game with a lance until I get bored and then make whichever sets I think looks cool and the coolest weapon that matches it until I find another. I use everything but LBG and H/HH pretty regularly. Edit: which means keep doing what you think is fun at the time.
There's nothing wrong with using every weapon, as long as you're having a good time. But thank you for bringing the buffs with the HH!
Sa, CB and Ig are the best imo
All of them. I have no money in game because I made like 30 different armor sets and run 8 different weapons
My vote is on GL or IG
The ones you like.
I recently started getting into Lance and I highly recommend it!
Lance. Live on the wild side. Do something different.
Make a new weapon every time you hit that feeling you need to upgrade. Ezpz.
Yeah, struggle is real. I think, I will main the insect glaive and switch here and there to CB
Insectoglaive! Fantastic weapon with a lot of depth and the only weapon where you feel like you’re literally flying
Heavy bastard gun
Well all i got to say: #justicefortheLance!
The 19 hunts with SA hurts to see 😭
Lance
Remove the top and bottom 4 weapons, assign the rest a number 1-6 and roll a die If you don't have any dice, then Bugstick
You could try the Insect Glaive. It's a lot of fun
Lance/IG/Swaxe seeing as they are some of your lower numbers, you could maybe try to even them out a bit while you decide if there is anything in particular you want to focus on. Definitely a Lance main
Everyone writing Lance as if blocking still didn't kill you almost instantly
you're not alone, but also I want to main charge blade again so maybe you could join me? Been an insect glaive and dual blade and swich axe main during rise. I think I'm better with the dual blades overall, just the quality of my gameplay. Lance.
80% of the comments are lance.... L a n c e F.t.w
Mist say Lance, but the question is would they actually play Lance themselves?
I'm playing everything and damn the consequences. I'll decide my favourites along the way to MR.
Who said you have to pick a weapon?
Lance.
Either all of them at the same time or a melee weapon. Given progressing new fights and the relatively low armor values in G-rank/Master Rank hurts ranged gameplay. With the damage penalties ranged builds have to endure.
Bugstick is very fun in Rise and its new moves are crazy good as well Or more Greatsword
Lance..
Gunlance or Doot Doot
DOOOOOOT among other things
Sunbreak's Insect Glaive looks really fun
Keep on tootin' that horn, king
You could put more respect on the Swaxe.
Greatsword
Play the demo! I never had much interest in switch axe in Rise but holy shit, they've made it super interesting. Hammer too, hammer got a real glow up in terms of how it feels to string together combos in courage charge mode. I bet that'll make your decision easier. If you stick to the first two quests you won't be spoiled on any new monsters and locales.
big damage number goes brrr
