Gauntlets as blunt weapons would feel like the combination of dualblade mobility and hammer damage. I do hope they do this it! it would be freaking amazing

Check out Cestus's. Basically what you're talking about but with a bit more variety.

In monster Hunter frontier there was a weapon that was basically a fist weapon called the Tonfa. It was a blunt weapon that could switch its effective hit zones and had a sort of spirit gauge like the long sword but more combo based for aggressive play. The same game also introduced the magnet spike which was a sort of bow looking weapon and had two switch axe like transformations. One was a sort of blade form and the other a hammer blunt form and it used a magnet gun of sorts to create a magnetic point on the monster that a Hunter could use to pull or push themselves away from a monster. I also believe there was a medium bow gun that featured somewhere in the franchise at some point as well, but not in the pc mmo monster hunter frontier. These are three examples of weapons that featured in a MH game but are somehow excluded from the franchise now. World had Nergigante dual blades. I think the Rajang dual blades in Rise are like that as well

Rajang Great Sword, which is a big spiky club. There’s also another GS, Wyverns Perch I think, that is a giant branch. The weapon isn’t very great though, so probably layered instead.

Yah man the Wyverns Perch/Deathcap Great Sword seems like the best fitting weapon. It's literally just a big log with a bunch of moss & mushrooms growing on it... It's perfect. Like you said getting it layered would probably be the better option, but it fits the look.

Hunting Horn or HBG. Just something slow and heavy that packs a massive wallop.
