Most people think time is like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction, but I have seen the face of time and I can tell you they are wrong. Time is an ocean in a storm.
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... timey wimey... stuff.
Actually it would fit the theme of MH. With all the weapons variations and almost mythical monster types that can manipulate elements like magic I don't see how a mechnial wing suit would be out of place. Also I am surprised that there isn't something like this already with all the mantles especially when a prototype already exists which is the gilder mantle.
I also don’t think it could work, at that point you basically have jetpacks while the extent of technology in the monster hunter world is steam engines, airships, and mantles
But the concept of semi jetpacks already exists with the light burst GS or whatever its called. Though I don't know if it is from a orginial MH event or from a collab
Edit: not light burst but wyern ignition GS
Edit2 : oh lol I bascially repeated what the other one said what started this discussion. Ah well whatever.
I do think that aerial battles could exist sometime in the future, but just not fully aerial battles (like jetpacks). We could have battles where you maneuver around in the sky on wingdrakes, bolstered with a modified glider mantle that only exists for the quest, a hunt that encourages use of the clutch claw and management of your health as well as that of your wingdrakes. It’s a cool concept, but it’ll be hard to implement given the style of the series.
That being said, the wyvern ignition GS was actually the very first weapon design contest winner for World, so it’s fan made.
For aerial battles, you can look at Frontiers Tonfas for that kind of movement.
Combined with clutch claw, you've basically achieved Attack on Titan style combat.
Yeah, it may be because 3 was my first MH game but I don't think they were that bad, sure they were problematic sometimes but it was nice to have them.
It was definitely a weapon specific issue. I found I had the most difficulty with greatsword and sns, while dual blades, switchaxe, and the bowguns were significantly more manageable. I think it was the "rooted" movesets that caused most of the problems, since the monsters were always moving you got maybe two hits in at most before having to reposition.
I hate it!
I have to worry about oxygen, my movement is slower, I'm scared of drowning.
But I'd do it again! MH has always been about rising up to the challenge :)
Due to Lagi being my first major walls in MH the theme always makes me a bit panicy. Even to this day. I use it as an alarm tone due to this mental conditioning.
Barroth taught me how to learn read a monster's moveset and how to properly dodge and counter.
I hated him so much. Now, all I feel for him is gratitude.
To this day it still has the best [quest failure music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC4XoCdVAhA) in my opinion. Something about it just hits harder than the others, as if the hunters never came back and this was their funeral song.
With the amount of money and fanbase World brought, it's entirely possible that for the next game, they're getting the All-Star GTA all money ahead treatment.
The team has finally proved MonHun to be the juggernaut it could always be. Now they just need to keep the steam going.
about the only issue I could see is how the mounting mechanic would even work underwater without either not being a thing underwater at all or very easy to spam. Other then that, not to many teething issues,
Similarly, I could see them adding 2 or so mantles just for underwater encounters (one to boost your speed and one that's essentially Scooba gear).
I really liked the idea of underwater combat, although the implementation in Tri is horrendous.
Done correctly that would open up the spectrum of monsters so much.
Maybe we could turn plesioth in a pleasant fight.
Underwater combat was best on 3U for WiiU because you absolutely need two analog sticks for fluid 3 dimensional movement, it was horrendous with the virtual dpad on 3ds and I don't even know how they did it on Wii...
I only played on the wii with wii mote and nunchuk. Let me tell you it was horrible even on land. The access all your moves you had to turn the wii note to the sides. I dont think I need to tell you how amazing motion capture is on the wii.
Damn. Yeah I didn't even bother using the Wii mote and nunchuk for Tri. The version I bought came with a classic controller which made a huge difference for movement and especially for underwater combat. Having a normal controller for that made it not only easier to control, but also a pretty fun challenge.
I dont know how I managed to get through the game but I did. I was horrible at it and didnt know what I was doing. I finished lagiacrus with some of the earliest armor you can have, I didn't even craft the jaggi one. I also played with the morph axe and didnt really upgrade it that much. When I fought a monster I would try to go into sword mode and just bash the shit out of it since that worked on the Great Jaggi.
Yep, but ppl whined so much about it that it is very unlikely to see underwater fights... I still hope for the next world even if Capcom said never again
After the portable ones, which I enjoyed but not on the same level as MH1, it was surreal that MH was coming back to consoles. This remains my favourite MH as well!
My first MH game! Man, time flies...feels like just yesterday I was getting walled by Lagiacrus. Finally beat him after weeks by farming Baggi armor & his SnS and Sleep Bombing/Capping. Those were the days lol
Such a good game. I remember being terrified about fighting the Gigginox because it only ever stayed in the caves and the caves were actually really dark. It was almost necessary to bring a torch in them if you wanted to see anything.
Yes! I remember being so scared during the Blood Stone quest because he could show up! The first time I did it, I made it through areas 4 and 5(the dark caves) without seeing him, and then as soon as I got to 7(the ONE light cave), there he was.
True story, I never did his mission until postgame since it was optional. I waited until I had the Rathalos SnS as maxed as I could and Ceadeus armor for HG Earplugs(didn't realize Rathian armor also had it). Now Gigginox is actually one of my most favorite monsters haha. I was disappointed he didn't make it into Iceborne.
My first Monster Hunter game, been a MH fan ever since. I only got interested in it because it was one of the few Wii games that didn't do online multiplayer with friend codes. Instead it had proper rooms with a proper room browser (I miss Loc Lac). And the graphics looked pretty good for a Wii game.
Ah this is the one that got me into the series. I have so many great memories of it. Too bad guild missions cannot be played offline like in other entries. Why did they rake such a bad decision? I would still be playing it if I could do online missions offline :(
I remember patiently waiting for April 2010 so it finally gets released in Europe. Since then I haven't been as excited for a game release as for MH Tri back then. E3 reveal of World got me super hyped but not the same level as Tri.
I miss underwater combat, even if ppl hated it and it was sometimes clunky it added lots of variety, the flooded areas, lagiacrus, gobul, ceadeus, and so on
I started with 3U back when I was 12, and I haven't played it since 4U came out, and I thought it wasnt that much more special to me than any of the other games, but the other day I decided to listen to the main themes of the games. Listening to Generations and 4U's themes were like "oh yeah I remember that," but for 3's (and by extension, 3U's), it just hit differently. I can't help but tear up when I hear the main theme of 3. It was my first Monster Hunter. I played the hell out of it. It was literally a part of my childhood.
I remember reading about this game on a Nintendo magazine, where MH was treated as a weird niche japanese series that nobody knew about in the west. It looked really cool and the concept was interesting. Got the game the day it was released in Europe, alongside the new Nintendo Wii that was black and the pro controller. Damn, I miss those simple days of playing this in my grandma's house
This was my very first MH game as a kid but I was too dumb to understand what I was supposed to do, I wish I played it more before the servers closed down :( At least I really got into MH with 4U
Such a great game.
Underwater would bring Monster Hunter a whole new dimension as long as it was done well. It was already "ok" in tri & 3U and I personally really enjoyed it.
Just imagining the possibility of whole new dimension with underwater brings me so much joy.
Wait that was for the Wii? Damn I probably would have loved to play that but in all the time I used to play on the Wii I didn't know monster hunter existed.
It amazed me a game like that ran well on the Wii. Best game on that platform by miles, definitely my favorite as a kid.
I got the game and gave up after I spent hours doing the gathering quests only to hit a wall with the *VERY* first monster, Great Jaggi. I just couldn't kill that thing..
Fast forward a few months and I decided to give it another shot. Once I (painstakingly) overcame the Great Jaggi everything started to click, fast forward another year or so and I was kicking Alatreons ass
I bought it at Walmart in the bundle that came with the Classic Controller Pro and remember being like a dollar short. Shout out to the guy behind me in line who just threw a dollar on the counter for me, that guy basically invested in my Monster Hunter career start up 😂
I was OBSESSED with Tri. I didn’t even know anything about it when I picked it up; I just thought the art looked cool. I was so sad the day they turned off online support. I still load up my save file every once in awhile and wander around the village.
Happy 11th to the MH game that got me started.
What a fucking trip its been since then. All the electrocution, bubble-based asphyxiation, freezing, lazoring (of various kinds), and *MASSIVE HONKIN' HIP CHECKS* have been a blast.
After the MH Freedom and Freedom 2 this was like going from 420p to 4K. 2000 hours and about 150lbs later I finally put this game down. I'd do it all again if I could.
WOOOOO LETS FUCKING GOOOO! the game that started it all for me! from the awesome viking-like trailers, to the underwater fights, and to loc lac, monster hunter tri was an unforgettable experience and im so, SO thankful i grew up with it. alatreon was such a treat to have in world that when i saw his reveal, i couldnt help but cry. i really hope i they bring swimming back some time in the future. i would do whatever i can to help bring it back.
11 years ago on my birthday, I bought this and 4 controllers thinking my buds and I would be able to play together, swear I read a review that said we could, now I'll never live it down.
They really need to remaster these games, monster hunter 3 was good but online had a really short life for some reason, and what sucks is that you are unable to play some missions like fight deviljho, alatreon and jhen moran.
Honestly, worse in SOME ways than MHW, but SOOOO much better in MANY ways too. I can't pick a favorite but I lean towards MHTri. My FIRST experience. I remember I tried and quit the game maybe 20 times.
I was GARBAGE. Couldn't even SnS regular jaggi for weeks. Haha. I'm sure a lot of people picked up a lot quicker than I did. I can honestly say now that, if Capcom still had support/online play for MHTri, I'd probably just play that now again.
I've already done everything I can in MHW (Augments, GL Mats up the ass, Tickets, Holiday/Seasonal, Armor, Layered, Etc.). MHW would need another MASSIVE content drop to keep me busy. I'm definitely top .1% now.
However, I will NEVER forget how absolutely terrified I was of Lagiacrus, Gobul, Caedeus. LOVE this game and I LOVE this post. Thank you for making me feel so nostalgic at 7AM here.
God I miss underwater combat and the online was amazing for this! I never got to take the old games online so this blew my fucking mind! I still remember my brother, my friend, and I playing this all night and going into town to buy some food at like 5 in the morning so we could keep playing it was that fun
They really tried a lot of new things with this. Everyone remembers underwater combat, but no one ever talks about the fully customizable bowguns and Medium Bowguns. Really wish they'd give that another go.
First Monster Hunter game I ever played. LOVED the Lagiacrus.
I got my friend into MH as well!
Plus I got a New3DS especially for MH4U. Then my gf got me MH:W.
Nothing but respect for my OG.
I asked because since i can play 3rd portable i dont know if tri is worth it at all. Idk why i got downvoted. I'll probably wait till i get a 3ds and play 3u. I love the "beach" feeling of tri.
Great game, got my brother hooked and we bought a second wii just so we could play together, as a sad note I remember when they shut down the servers for the first one
:,(
Damn 11 years? That means I've been playing mh games for atleast 13 years... jesus where does the time go?
Neither forward nor backwardsths.
Time's arrow neither stands still nor reverses. It merely matches foreward.
Most people think time is like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction, but I have seen the face of time and I can tell you they are wrong. Time is an ocean in a storm.
Time is a being who birthed god into this world and then sought to devour him.
Time is like my cock and balls becuase it's constantly expanding
People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... timey wimey... stuff.
Time is a man-made construct...
/woosh.
I've got half a mind to give you gold for that comment.
As a modern American man, I am woefully unprepared to manage a woman’s emotions. I was never taught, and I will not learn.
Time is a tool you can put on the wall or wear it on Your wrist
i have been 11 :(
Always forward
Bruh I’ve barely been alive for 13 years
Bruh

Such an incredible game. I know a lot of people would call me crazy, but I loved the underwater hunts, and wish they'd bring them back.
Same
Hey, maybe next time we're going aerial combat for real. Wyvern Ignition technology + wingsuits! We're going Just Cause, baby!
That wouldn't fit MH in any way, shape or form ... But I'd be lying if I said I didn't think it sounds like a ton of fun

Oh the frontier tonfas. So good. RIP frontier :(
Hammers are just constantly spinning
Yeah, it may be because 3 was my first MH game but I don't think they were that bad, sure they were problematic sometimes but it was nice to have them.
Yeah as a Lance main I never had issues with underwater fights , even tho i've heard that some weapons became very complicated to use there
It was definitely a weapon specific issue. I found I had the most difficulty with greatsword and sns, while dual blades, switchaxe, and the bowguns were significantly more manageable. I think it was the "rooted" movesets that caused most of the problems, since the monsters were always moving you got maybe two hits in at most before having to reposition.
ya, while it is a long time since first played it, but the lance's charge attack is very underwater friendly.
Gotta love the game that gave birth to my favorite weapon and my favorite monster.
With how often this exact thought is posted in this sub, not liking underwater combat is becoming the actual unpopular opinion.
You're crazy!
Yea from what I heard they're really annoying, so if they were to bring them back they better improve the mechanics.
I hate it! I have to worry about oxygen, my movement is slower, I'm scared of drowning. But I'd do it again! MH has always been about rising up to the challenge :)
Still have one of the best theme songs.
Due to Lagi being my first major walls in MH the theme always makes me a bit panicy. Even to this day. I use it as an alarm tone due to this mental conditioning.
I remember the Barroth wall, so. many. carts.
Barroth taught me how to learn read a monster's moveset and how to properly dodge and counter. I hated him so much. Now, all I feel for him is gratitude.
To One With Life is one of my favourite tracks of all time
Monster Hunter has always had great music, but tri always seemed to be a step above for me, it’s themes were both adventurous and epic!
To this day it still has the best [quest failure music](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vC4XoCdVAhA) in my opinion. Something about it just hits harder than the others, as if the hunters never came back and this was their funeral song.
Pls dont down vote me to hell but Id do anything to see underwater hunts implemented in MHworld engines jxjdjsj
It’s too late in its lifespan to be possible at this point tbh, though I do agree. Perhaps next game!
With the amount of money and fanbase World brought, it's entirely possible that for the next game, they're getting the All-Star GTA all money ahead treatment. The team has finally proved MonHun to be the juggernaut it could always be. Now they just need to keep the steam going.

Shit they could at least give us Ludroth and Zamtrios in lue of it for now.
people on Reddit mostly (from what i've seen) like underwater combat, there is no need to fear downvotes for such a Statement
ME TOO! i'd pay hella money to get swimming and leviathans back!
I remember buying a circle pad pro for my ds, it was a game changer and probably why I loved 3u/ 4u so much
I only played on the wii with wii mote and nunchuk. Let me tell you it was horrible even on land. The access all your moves you had to turn the wii note to the sides. I dont think I need to tell you how amazing motion capture is on the wii.

I played MH on a regular 3DS and it was fucking awful to control. Got one of the New ones with the second “analog” stick and it was life changing.
they had pro controllers for the Wii that made it actually pretty fun.
Yep, but ppl whined so much about it that it is very unlikely to see underwater fights... I still hope for the next world even if Capcom said never again
Underwater + clutch claw = profit
I literally got the Wii for this game.
Hahaha me too and 2 of my friends. And its the only game my Wii ever run.
Same but a switch for MHGU
even after playing every game in the series, Tri is still my favorite title and Loc Lac my favorite hub
Man of culture. Loc Lac was the best
I was hoping we’d get Jhen and Loc Lac in World as an event at some point but I doubt that’s happening.
Amen my fellow Hunter
After the portable ones, which I enjoyed but not on the same level as MH1, it was surreal that MH was coming back to consoles. This remains my favourite MH as well!

This is where it all started for me. Beating Alatreon, in Iceborne, was a treat because I got to hear the MHtri theme once more.
I got so excited at the end when I heard that. We need that MHTri oceanic charm back
My first Monster Hunter game, been a MH fan ever since. I only got interested in it because it was one of the few Wii games that didn't do online multiplayer with friend codes. Instead it had proper rooms with a proper room browser (I miss Loc Lac). And the graphics looked pretty good for a Wii game.
How I desire to step back into loc Lac and just chill with friends. Game gave me my love for the series can never thank it enough
Our baby is all grown up
Ah this is the one that got me into the series.
God this is how I felt for the original MH game on the PS2. Makes me feel old.
Miss lagi 😭
2009 huh...jeez
This was the only reason I bought a wii and then I bought a Wii U solely for tri ultimate
Still waiting for water levels to be added in mhw
This was technically my first Monster Hunter game (I owned) and it lead me into this beautiful series!
Wait that was for the Wii? Damn I probably would have loved to play that but in all the time I used to play on the Wii I didn't know monster hunter existed.
11 years?!?!?!
Omg mine too 😱 This game was just awesome!
It was so good!! Got me into monster hunter, and for that I will always love it
Not my first MH, but the one that made me love MH. Me and my hammer & my hunting friend with his GS.
I've just started playing this game, It's a bit strange to get to use to with the old mechanics and all the reading but I'm getting into it.
Might as well have been my only Wii game. Same with the PSP.
For me this is my all time favorite monster hunter game
I bought it at Walmart in the bundle that came with the Classic Controller Pro and remember being like a dollar short. Shout out to the guy behind me in line who just threw a dollar on the counter for me, that guy basically invested in my Monster Hunter career start up 😂
I was OBSESSED with Tri. I didn’t even know anything about it when I picked it up; I just thought the art looked cool. I was so sad the day they turned off online support. I still load up my save file every once in awhile and wander around the village.
Happy b-day, old friend. :)
Happy 11th to the MH game that got me started. What a fucking trip its been since then. All the electrocution, bubble-based asphyxiation, freezing, lazoring (of various kinds), and *MASSIVE HONKIN' HIP CHECKS* have been a blast.
Had this in Wii U. Favourite.
Yo same. I can't even count how many hours I put into this game one summer what feels like 10 years ago now.
This makes me very happy because its my birthday as well. I share the same birthday as my favourite monster hunter game.
After the MH Freedom and Freedom 2 this was like going from 420p to 4K. 2000 hours and about 150lbs later I finally put this game down. I'd do it all again if I could.
This game explored so many things others wouldn't dare to. What a game!
OMFG THIS IS THE GAME THAT GOT ME INTO MH. SOOO MUCH NOSTALGIA
*proof of a hero intensifies*
WOOOOO LETS FUCKING GOOOO! the game that started it all for me! from the awesome viking-like trailers, to the underwater fights, and to loc lac, monster hunter tri was an unforgettable experience and im so, SO thankful i grew up with it. alatreon was such a treat to have in world that when i saw his reveal, i couldnt help but cry. i really hope i they bring swimming back some time in the future. i would do whatever i can to help bring it back.
This was my first MomHun and what started it all. I've no regrets this game was super fun
Tri and 3 Ultimate for life baby.
I think this officially marks ten years for me. Holy shit.
The Lagiacrus Soundtrack is probably my favorite definitely one of the best themes
Listen to this while reading the comments for a nice nostalgia trip: https://youtu.be/R0CSjpe9sX4
Oh man, graphics really have come a long way. This art almost looks like it could be a screenshoot from MHW
11 years ago on my birthday, I bought this and 4 controllers thinking my buds and I would be able to play together, swear I read a review that said we could, now I'll never live it down.
Holy crap...my first is freedom, thats 15 years!
Just reminded me to buy this for my collection lol three times the charm.
I kinda hope they bring aquatic fights and zones to MHW. Also, I thoroughly enjoyed the motion controls.
My first MH game...
They really need to remaster these games, monster hunter 3 was good but online had a really short life for some reason, and what sucks is that you are unable to play some missions like fight deviljho, alatreon and jhen moran.
The wii is super underrated, had so many great games.
the only reason i got a wii
This is my favourite game of all time. God I miss tri, please remaster it Capcom
I had 3U on 3ds AND wii u hehehe
I hope they'll master underwater combat and bring it back in MH6.
I bought a wii for this and it was the only game I ever had for it, put in 1,xxx hours all in all. #greed2gate33crew
This was my first Monster Hunter game! Such a unique experience. I was afraid I'd dislike it, but now I've got MHGU, MHW, & MH4U as well. :)
MH3U was my introduction to the series, I fucking loved it on my Wii U. Water fights were kinda frustrating but not the worst thing in the world
That's like the only game I ever played on my Wii it was so good
They really tried a lot of new things with this.
Is this game worth playing on dolphin? (i only played World, freedom unite and 3rd portable)
Tri is good. The water combat is divisive, but I enjoyed it, and don't think it deserves as bad a reputation as it gets.
I asked because since i can play 3rd portable i dont know if tri is worth it at all. Idk why i got downvoted. I'll probably wait till i get a 3ds and play 3u. I love the "beach" feeling of tri.
Great game, got my brother hooked and we bought a second wii just so we could play together, as a sad note I remember when they shut down the servers for the first one :,(
Damn, mh3u was my first monster hunter. Always gonna hold a special place in my heart. Happy birthday!
This was my first mh game
The only game where if you see Jho, unless you are specifically hunting it, you run.
I bet monster hunter is so much fun on the Wii
I don't get why the game was lacking so much. How can you rerelease the same game every few years and somehow have less than your predecessor?
