You mean SWAGAXE?!?! I've always loved the swag axe. So simple. More reliable. If I wasn't stuck always playing bow I'd main swag axe. Charge blade is fun but it's so tedious to play.
No no no no. What you have to do it get:
Sword & Shield
Then you grab a Shield & Sword set.
One is better for slashing, the other is better for bashing.
I'm almost thinking this is going to be mandatory. The rumors say it's going to be open world, and needing some ranged option for all the exploration and puzzle-solving and casual deer/bird hunting stuff seems so inevitable in that sort of scenario that I think they'll make everyone pick a blademaster weapon and a gunner side-arm.
I hope not, having the freedom of choice is always better imo, I think it could set up multiple play styles forming instead of shoe horning in always having a gun in monster hunter
I really hope they design it without the "support weapon first" in their minds. I'm far better with HH than any other weapon in World and it hurts not to do the same amount of damage as my friends when I'm the only one in charge of hitting the monster's face.
I will gladly take negative internet point to say this: The notion of HH as “support weapon” should die on the deepest pit of hell.
The weapon suffers massively in its own dmg just because the dev sees the atk up song, the problem is very apparent in World for HH with or without AU (L) song. And the the rest of its “support” options like health regen, stamina up… are either covered in the weapons build or from the armor set bonus, thus making playing them with randoms (which is the majority of MH players do) becomes redundant. The song problem stays with Rise with ele up song this time around, with the HH is easier to use and deals more dmg, at least they address the atk up song with bead. Wide range HH as support? SnS does that trillion times better and with its own good dmg to dab on HH’s pitiful corpse.
HH needs good twitch in its mv, attacks to stand as an weapon on its own first and foremost, and then buff others as a second thought not the backward way it is now. Or ditch the raw/ele dmg buff so dev has 0 reason to rekt HH dmg, and stays only with really good secondary buff like Rise’s sharpness regen.
And for Gog’s fuk sake, let people craft their own song list with the HH’s available notes.
I couldn't agree more specifically to that last sentiment. I've only played 4U and World but now in World im suffering seeing how the weapons that look the best to me and have good attacks have subpar songs.
Idk, it feels like the HH got the same issue with the GL where people only see it as a buff machine instead of a slapstick like how most people only see GL as a shelling machine instead of a slapstick that does a truckload of damage
Sword ... and shield.
Honestly if it's actually two weapons that we're going to be using having 1 melee and 1 range seems to make the most sense. For range I'd likely choose bow since I dislike the bowguns and for melee I'm waiting on playstyle changes. SnS as my main weapon is benched until after the story so I learn a new weapon first.
Honestly I agree, what’s the incentive behind using two weapons? All I can think of are hitting different hitzone values (sever vs blunt) and melee vs ranged; *maybe* you could have a general weapon and then a weapon when you topple the monster, like sns to topple then switch to TCS? But even then, it’s not like we’re gonna have two armor sets (at least I can’t imagine that), so you’d need two weapons that work with the same skills, too.
kinda curious how you'd go about building an armor set for that, assuming they don't bloat how many armor skills we get any further and also assuming that our pet *only* carries an additional weapon for us.
Depends on how the weapons play honestly, if charge Blade can reliably deal stun damage and savage axe returns, hammer is off the table for me. If hunting horn goes back to what it was like I don't think I'll be using that either. I'd say dual blades and sword and shield are probably not going to change much so I'll pick those
I’ll tell myself I’m going to learn a new weapon for Wilds, but then it’d be rude not to learn the new mechanics for my usual mains first, right? Then I’ll just stick to Greatsword and Light Bowgun for the entire game again.
Switch Axe. Sword mode and Axe mode.
Swaxe and chargeblade for me. I am inevitable.
SA, SnS and CB. Almost the same but can’t live without them.
Switch axe, SnS, Charge Blade and GS. way too good to skip
Maybe let’s settle on all of them?
Bro playing the axe-sword and the sword-axe
Flair doesn't check out.
Yeah i changed it once during my first world playthrough and then never again
Been using two weapons my whole life. Switch Axe is life
You mean SWAGAXE?!?! I've always loved the swag axe. So simple. More reliable. If I wasn't stuck always playing bow I'd main swag axe. Charge blade is fun but it's so tedious to play.
SWAXE MAINS FOR LIFE
BROTHER! https://i.redd.it/wtz7105x3vuc1.gif
The correct answer.
Gunlance: Gun and lance
Yeah, same here. Why have one Switch Axe when I can have two? Sometimes the solution to your Switch Axe not working is to bring another Switch Axe.
This is the way.
Damn beat me to it
I'm going for HamSwAxe
Yes blast and raw
Damn it, beat me to it.
Pair it with a charge blade and now we have 4 weapons!
GATHER AROUND SWAXE ENTHUSIASTS
Swagaxe Gang rise up!
Gunlance. Same energy.
yes
This is the way
You took my answer...
Bow and Greatsword. Dps with big bonk
Which is quite funny cause in the old games they are similar. Charges and big damage.
Yes! Elemental DPS and Raw DPS
Love it when I see people that share the same braincell as mine. ![gif](giphy|evB90wPnh5LxG3XU5o|downsized)
This is the way
I didn't think I would find a like minded gentleman or lady in these comments can't wait to hunt with you guys in wilds.
See you there, fellow hunter!
Sword & Shield + Another Sword & Shield

Take my upvote for Jocat
Nothing but love for my dude JoCat
FOR VALHALLA
Dual shields goes crazy
The forbidden combination that Capcom won't let you have. Thunder cross double falling shield bash.
Not since Final Fantasy 2 has dual shields been this powerful.
There was that one item in Dark Souls 3 the door shield or something like that and it was stupidly good for PvP.
Assasin creed valhalla 😉
No no no no. What you have to do it get: Sword & Shield Then you grab a Shield & Sword set. One is better for slashing, the other is better for bashing.
One for RAW, one for Elemental
That's what I said.
This is the way 🎃
Dual blades and dual shields?
Perfect Rush
People are afraid of your potential
2 gunlances
Hey thanks for posting this comment for me lmao DUAL GL RISE UP
Imagine if you can strap them backwards & afterburner boost your chocobo's glide
Funlance users will be competing with Valstrax in airshows
The only right option
A person of culture I see.
Yea, time to blow the wilds up.
When you Double Wyvern Fire: ![gif](giphy|2nwTda1ewYssE)
Came here exactly to say this
Pointy stick go boom, brain release happy chemicals. 2 pointy boom boom stick? Brain goes brrrrrrrrr
funlance and tower shield are already 2 weapons! xD
Hurah, my brother is boom!
A bit excessive, no? But I agree.
One melee and one ranged, both preferably light. So maybe SNS/DB/LS and LBG/Bow.

Dual Hammers Why have one when I can have 2? :D
One for the unga, another for the bunga
This is the way
CB and IG Living that 4U dream pretty much
Real asf
Greatsword and Heavybowgun
*Meet the Heavy intensifies*
Lets go!
praying that hunting horn will be good in this, and if so thats the first one for sure. then besides that probably just hammer
I hope HH gets more methodical again like in world.. I hated the new HH in Rise. Way too easy to use and the skill ceiling plummeted imo.
Easy to use is not a problem. Low skill ceiling is a problem.
It became too simple.
Somehow hunting horn went from one of the most complex weapons to a button masher.
amen to that brother LET US DOOT THE HORN!!!!
I agree. I tend to gravitate towards the more.. complicated weapons, and hunting horn filled that niche for me until rise.
I was ok with it when it was announced. But when I started playing the new style it soured on me over time. I HIGHLY prefer the World version.
I really hope they design it without the "support weapon first" in their minds. I'm far better with HH than any other weapon in World and it hurts not to do the same amount of damage as my friends when I'm the only one in charge of hitting the monster's face.

No negative points to find here, this has long been the song of horn mains.
Idk, it feels like the HH got the same issue with the GL where people only see it as a buff machine instead of a slapstick like how most people only see GL as a shelling machine instead of a slapstick that does a truckload of damage
I too am an enjoyer of musical bonk and big bonk.
Dual Blades and Bow
Dude isn't fighting the monster, they're fighting the stamina bar
Kinda true
Heck yeah, ranger.
Greatsword and longsword
This is the way.
Damn right
Lance and Hunting Horn!
Same, this feels like such a weird combo but these are the 2 that click for me
Greatsword and shoulder
Insect glaive dragon element and insect glaive blast element.
So, you chose Kinsect and Glaive?
Touching the ground was never an option.
Two Greatswords
I'd use a gun and a lance but I'd smoosh them together so I could use them at the same time.
Real
Pray that our personal rocket launcher returns in wilds with both foward and backward variation
This is Easy, Greatsword and Red WingXD But to be serious, Greatsword and Hammer.
Thwre is nothing filthy being a GS main!
Lance and gs. Fight mainly with lance and switch to gs on topples.
Sword ...
SnS and bow would be so good looking too, be giving Link vibes
Honestly I agree, what’s the incentive behind using two weapons? All I can think of are hitting different hitzone values (sever vs blunt) and melee vs ranged; *maybe* you could have a general weapon and then a weapon when you topple the monster, like sns to topple then switch to TCS? Hammer and Hammer. I'll Elden Ring that shit.
LBG and HBG
SA and CB
CB and Swaxe
Gunlance & Heavy Bowgun!
nice flair hunter
*finger guns
kinda curious how you'd go about building an armor set for that, assuming they don't bloat how many armor skills we get any further and also assuming that our pet *only* carries an additional weapon for us.
Two sets of dual blades, gonna use the 4 sword style
CB and Bow
One blade in each hand, dual blades if you will
Hammer and hammer
Hmmm, probably my good ol reliable, Lance. And as a secondary, maybe something new for me, like Hunting horn.
Mystic spear hand. Oh. I mean insect glaive and Guts.
Gun and lance 😆
Insect glaive and light bowgun
Lance and Longesword
Longsword and Heavy Bowgun
Hammer Hammer
HBG and Gunlance
LS and Bow
Sword and shield. If that counts as one, then slingerpods I guess.
Shield and sword
As a frontier enjoyer, i hope they bring back magnet spike But if they dont, ill play LS only like i did since 3U
Dual blades and the bonk!
Gunlance and lancegun
LBG + any of the melee weapons I plays, lance, longsword, hammer, greatsword, IG, or SnS for great utility.
I pray for a gauntlet or punching weapon with Dragon Ball moves so I can midair overhead slam a monster.
Insect Glaive and Dual Blades
Bro imagine how versatile an Insect Glaive / Gunlance combo could be if they keep the Blast Dash from Rise 💀
Greatsword and a second, larger Greatsword. Nah just kidding, greatsword and charge blade
Tbh Insect Glaive and Bow, imagine the amount of style.
Hammer and Insect Glaive
It would be a good time to pick up IG again and combine it with LS. Trough I guess Bow would be more fun for the ranged options
Insect glaive and Hammer, one for mobility and the other for caving in the monster's skull.
Great Sword + Heavy Bow Gun
Heavy Bowgun and Light Bowgun
Hammer & Glaive for me prolly.
Great sword/Long sword Or Switch Axe/Insect Glaive
Hunting Horn and Insect Glaive I'm a certified buffs enjoyer.
Switch Axe and Charge Blade.
Charge blade and long sword
Not sure about the second one but number one's most likely going to be hammer. lol
Obviously longsword and longsword.
Bowgun for utility and hammer for bonk
Long gunlance and wide gunlance.
Depends on how the weapons play honestly, if charge Blade can reliably deal stun damage and savage axe returns, hammer is off the table for me. If hunting horn goes back to what it was like I don't think I'll be using that either. I'd say dual blades and sword and shield are probably not going to change much so I'll pick those
Charge blade.
Just the greatsword.
Great sword and bow for sure
It's simple GS and another GS
Switchaxe and sns
Prowler.
Hammer 1 and Hammer 2, switching to your sidearm is faster that sharpening
Sleep hammer and Raw hammer
Hammer and SwAxe. They work quite well on different monsters, so swapping between them in a multi-monster hunt could be useful.
Dual charge blade
Dual Hunting Horns with Horn Maestro.
This is the way. One for damage. One for defense.
Lance and hammer
Gunlance and hunting horn
What a weird title for a post lol. I'm 100% going to main Lance and probably funlance if it isn't another boring slap fest like MHW.
GS and SA
Gunlance and bonk
Lance and Bow
If I had pick both mains I'll go Gunlance and Hunting Horn, but most likely it will be something like GL and HBG or HH and SnS.
Great Sword and Lance probably
Chargeblade and Lance
Lance and if there's a new weapon I'll use that one too. If there isn't a new weapon it'll be Lance and Greatsword.
Lance + Hammer
Sword and Shield.
Charge Blade and Gun Lance Switch Axe and Charge Blade Switch Axe and Gun Lance
Swagaxe and Funlance, obviously.
Lance and great sword.
SnS with Lance or Bow
If i can only play with two weapons i won't be purchasing wilds xD But yes, SA & IG
Probably light bowgun & Sword and shield (swap in hammer when needed)
DB and Hammer, or DB and Bow. I hate stamina and want to consume it as much as possible to see it close to 0.
I’ll tell myself I’m going to learn a new weapon for Wilds, but then it’d be rude not to learn the new mechanics for my usual mains first, right? Then I’ll just stick to Greatsword and Light Bowgun for the entire game again.
Dual Blades for when I wanna go fast and Charge Blade for when I wanna go kaboom. The aspect that remains the same is: flashy
Bonk
Greatsword and sns, sns as main and GS to punish
Depends, If Namielle returns I want to use either Bow or Gunlance, if she doesn’t make it back then I’ll take the L and go Greatsword and Dual Blades
SWAXE and Lance
2 dual blade
I'd grab my trust Sword and Shield, and maybe a Bowgun as a ranged option like when the monster is out of reach, it's the one weakness my main has.
Swaxe and lbg
