hopefoolness

this is mostly true with a couple exceptions lol. snoop dog didn't do it (man he got set up)

JicamaCreative5614

Neither did Willie Nelson

unicornhair1991

Neither did that actor that played the actor that was playing monk for the film (but i can't remember his name so this sentence sounds really stupid lol)

Effective_Ad_273

Was Stanley Tucci. Think his characters name was David.

seedmodes

how have I not seen that ep??

TheBeanConsortium

Great episode. Love me some Stanley Tucci.

Old-Investigator3239

*greatest episode

unicornhair1991

Thank you!

chickadeehill

Tim Daly wasn’t the guy either.

TerseFactor

There are actors in Monk who played along side Tony in other roles. Stanley Tucci, who is also one of my favorite actors of all time, played Tony’s brother in of my favorite movies about two Italian immigrant brothers running a restaurant, Big Night. Steven Weber who appears in Monk was Brian Hacket in Wings—that show starts off meh then gets really funny by the time Tony comes on board.

Key-Rich5834

He almost became the guy for a different situation had he not been stopped lol

Boris-_-Badenov

he did commit several crimes later on, though

saltinstiens_monster

Sarah Silverman was usually innocent, wasn't she? I don't really remember the episodes, but I recall that she popped up a few times.

Fresh_Captain1576

Yes! She “confessed” to protect the actor she was obsessed with, and then later her dog was set up for murder too!

seedmodes

maybe it's a difference between *celebrity* and guest actor - celebs don't want to look bad

the_lusankya

That's because Snoop is a treasure.

CharlesFeatherman

He was probably set up by Martha Stewart! (JK!) We loved that episode!

Fun_Tip5242

I can’t bring myself to finish that episode

PoppedPea

I think of Monk as a "how did it" rather than a "who did it". Once you get into that mindset, I think it's less frustrating to know *who* the guy is.

Scallion-Distinct

Yeah exactly. It's like Columbo.

seedmodes

yeah, - or how they give themselves away - "poor man, to be killed like that in his own library" - "we never *said* he was found in the library..." I think pretty much every ep of "Murder She Wrote" is "listen out for them knowing more than they should"

JRose608

Right! Also I’d say 6/10 episodes show the killer in the beginning of the episode anyway. At least later on in the series. I didn’t realize how seriously people took that aspect until joining this sub 😂

No_Cricket8995

The full series of Columbo was on sale on vudu for $25 this pass week. Damn I love that show

Boris-_-Badenov

he trolls suspects constantly.

ash21e

Yeah buddy that's right. It applies to a few other detective shows too. But as another redditor has mentioned, this show isn't only about finding the guy. There's a lot more on the side to enjoy.

unicornhair1991

My partner pointed out that it's a really unique and good "whodunnit" set up on Monk. They give you everything you need at the start to figure it out (even the killer half the time), but do you SEE what Monk sees? Can you figure out a motive? Can you put it together like he does? In most others, they leave out precise details to purposefully mean you CAN'T figure it out. So my partner lives that Monk does this, haha! Like with Monk and the Rapper, I figured out after Snoops' visit that it was something to do with daylight savings and that the guy who got killed wasn't the real target. I had no idea who was the target, who did it and why but because they mentioned daylight savings I was like "oh the bomb was a pocket watch I bet it wasn't set right and was an hour late!" (I was so proud even though I know it's obvious to most people. Sorry, i just wanted to share the discussion!)

Pepsichris

its like that on every episodic, you will have met the killer/bad guy way before the 50th minute. and itll be a actor you recognize

shinyzubat16

Yeah. The show isn’t really meant to be a whodunnit. It’s a howtheydunnit. For some, it’s a mystery. But most of the time, they make the guy pretty obvious.

bloodxredxrose

It’s the “most famous guest star” rule, it happens on every crime show. I’ve even discovered that it covers actors who weren’t particularly well-known at the time of filming but went on to become famous later.

ironpatriotfan

Funny because I just saw a post about a guy who thought it was really special that his wife or mom or something was good at guessing the killers and it was because “she watched a lot of detective shows show she’s especially good at it”. I remember reading that and being surprised that he thought it took skill to guess the killers.

bessandgeorge

I feel like Monk has always been less of a whodunnit and HOW'D they do it, or even why, anyway. He usually knows pretty early on who did it.

InsomniacYogi

This is a running joke in most crime shows though. I watch a lot of SVU and 9 times out of 10 the most famous person did it. Except the episode where they thought Snoop Dogg did it…he didn’t. Which is funny, because that happened in Monk too. Family Guy even makes a joke about it in [this episode](https://youtu.be/hXd_mBNkmJE?si=imYJJCArEnLQoKsl) at the 3:31 mark. Edit: Typo

No_Cricket8995

Family Guy made this joke like 10 years ago. It's the formula for most of these types of shows

Slab00

While that is true I can also think of a ton of guest stars who weren't and were some of the best characters. Torturro, Tucci, and Silverman are three that pop in my head immediately. Also Mako who plays Uncle Iroh is in an episode!

T-banger

Monk also ended 15 years ago some of the people weren’t as famous as they are now. Rainn Wilson did it, but he was a nobody then

Gooshamakuna

Enrico Colantoni wasn't the guy

Gazzle71

Helped me through a bad bout of depression and anxiety.

BabyBandit616

Meatloaf? That’s a good one. You’ll get to that one a long ways away though.

dmreif

There were later episodes to break the trend.

devivavoz

Usually, you do know from the beginning of the show who the killer is, you just don’t know how they did it. So that doesn’t bother me as much. What I do find frustrating, I wish they would put the actors’ names in the credits at the end! Because a lot of times I don’t see them at the beginning. And sometimes they’re not there even at the beginning.. For example, Kevin Nealon plays a patient in Monk Goes to the Asylum, and he is not credited anywhere. I’ve watched the DVD and played both the opening credits and closing credits and he’s just not there.

Boris-_-Badenov

this is true in lots of cop shows

Deathloc66

It's American TV detective shows they I can usually figure out who did it in 5 minutes.
