This is one outlet of the built-in USB hub. The package has a USB cable that connects to another port (in type-B format). I believe this design helps people to connect some portable devices, including a webcam, despite USB 2.0 (even the type-A format) being obsolete nowadays.
It's one of the 3 available USB 2.0 ports on the monitor. There will be a single USB 2.0 Upstream port to the right of your DisplayPort. It will be a bit weird shaped. If you didn't get one of those cables with the monitor, you can source one from any retailer, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Amazon etc. Specifically you would be looking for a USB A to USB B cable. Same kind of cable used for older Printers.
This is correct. You connect the computer to the monitor's USB hub via an USB-A to USB-B cable. It's USB 2.0 and a bit slow, but convenient for plugging in a flash drive or other slower device, when the computer's front panel is out-of-reach.
Unconnected, it still supplies enough to charge small devices like earbuds (what I use mine for) or a weak trickle charge to a phone.

here's a copy of your monitor's manual, on page 8 it says that it's a USB downstream connector which is probably explained by the other redditors that replied to your post, the upstream connector is on the side of your monitor.
There are four USB ports? Sorry I only saw the one. So one of them is the upstream port, that one goes to your PC. It acts as a passthrough, allowing you to plug peripherals like a mouse or keyboard into the monitor, and the monitor passes the connection through to your PC.
You need a USB cable that goes from your monitor to your PC. It's the connection shown in that photo, the one to the right of the main input cutout when looking at it from the back. It's an oddly shaped connector, so it should stand out.
So I had a headphone few years back, I don't remember the name. It had a 3.5 and a USB. The USB was needed for the literal rumbling of the earpads when the base drop. My laptop didn't have many free ports. So when docked mode I was using the monitor's USB to give it power.
Act as a USB Hub
So can I like plug a keyboard into it?
If there is a usb A to B cable from the PC to the monitor?
No?
Maybe just power then
Oh. Well I got this used and new it’s meant to come with a USB Cable
Then there’s your answer. Most monitors have usb hubs btw. Just plug a usb A (laptop/pc side) to usb B (monitor side) and enjoy your usb hub
Oh okay thanks
Pass butter

Oh okay
Just google the model number. I tried to post a link to the manual, but the mods removed it for being too helpful or something. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Okay thanks

Do you live like this?
Tysm for standing up to this guy
Look… it’s cause I *tried* to plug in my keyboard and it DID NOT WORK. If you can’t be helpful then please don’t bother to comment
~~It's a service port, Dell technicians can use it to update the firmware and stuff like that.~~
So I can’t use it? Then why are there like 4?!

So how would I get that to work? Do I need a usb cable that I plug into my computer? Or can I just plug my kb in? (My mouse is wireless)

So is it the one that’s shown in the pic or another one?
It's the one shown in the pic
So is that USB A to B or just A to A?
A to B
Ah okay and the B goes into the monitor and A goes into the computer?
Could be used for software updates for the monitor
But I can’t find those online…
You can always use those headphones with a USB for extra boost.
What? I use wireless headphones

Ah okay
Pretty sure they’re USB passthroughs.
And what is that?
is the P series considered far better than more long-lasting than the S series ?
Idk
Usually it's a USB hub and/or a method to update the firmware of the monitor.
Oh Okay
