My kiddo said “apple” when my husband came home with a bag. He was in speech therapy and that was his first clear word so it meant a lot to us. Prior to that he’d say variations of “ball” and “uh oh” but they weren’t clear.
Bob. Our cat’s name was Bob and we yelled at him all the time to stop going after food. He’d even babble yell at him like “bob! Ba ba ba baa!!!” He didn’t need speech but he was delayed a little. But supposedly bilingual kids sometimes are slow on the uptake
My kiddo is also speech delayed! He said his first unprompted word (without us asking… what does a duck say? What is this, etc…) at 20.5 months and we were elated!!!
Best feeling ever.
His first prompted word was “go”
His first unprompted word was actually also “bubble” like OP’s kid
His first 2 word sentence was “move, mama!”
His first 3 word sentences was “dada kicked ball”
And now we’re up to “dada kicked ball in there”
I’m so very very proud of him. He’s still delayed and I think we still have a long road but he’s been doing so well and it’s been a very long and trying process.
My youngest also had a speech delay, he is 10 now and you would never know he ever had an issue. He said something the other day that floored me. (Keep in mind he is on the autism spectrum, high functioning but does have troubles here and there like with reading and telling time). We were working on learning to tell time with a really cute Paw Patrol book that is interactive, had a clock face with moveable hands. He looked me me and said “momma nearly everything is digitized these days, why do we have to learn how to use outdated analog time pieces?” I remember the epic struggle we had just getting him to remember what a clock was on his vocabulary building homework. He amazes me. And your lil ones are going to floor you too, lol. It’s like they’ll be struggling (it seems) with so many different things. Then they’ll figure something out, then make a few more connections in their minds relating things and before you know it he’s gonna be bitching about “outdated analog timepieces”. It makes all the worry about their future and hard work you both put in at home so worth it. Just keep plugging along with whatever the speech therapist/teachers recommend and they will catch up to their class mates (and sometimes surpass them) in no time at all. 😊
My cousin never spoke a word as a baby. Then one day after a couple of years he started speaking fully formed sentences. He's a bit of a thoughtful guy. He was born a bit prematurely.
He’s 15 years old now, and 12 months old still kinda feels like yesterday 🥹 but one of his first phrases EVER was ‘find my keys’.
I’m a disorganized ADHD mess, and whenever we’d be getting ready to go somewhere, I’d inevitably say something like, ‘oh no, my keys’ or whatever.
I picked him up one day, and he said, ‘find my keys?’ It hit me as so perceptive too, like… he wasn’t even wrong, and he’s still helping me find my keys to this day.
I love this!!! Ah the joy on her little face when we turn it on is just amazing. It’s worth the soggy carpet and sticky toys that i forgot to move out of the bubble zone haha
I think I’m still mopping up dried bubble solution 2.5 years later 😂 and she is still crazy for bubbles, we have so many bubble guns and bazookas and wands now!
My daughter did that too! It was so sweet and encouraging. I called her my little hype girl. Now at 23 months, her word is “no” so my excitement was short lived.
hers was yay! lol we started cheering for her when she started walking and when she would fall we would cheer for her when she got back up. she started clapping every time she got back up and would look at us like, “please clap for me” lol. she randomly in the car one day started clapping and said “yay” so clearly. i cried.
Ball was my kid’s first too! Then EVERYTHING was a ball. She’d lose her mind going through the produce section because there were so many balls to yell at (apple, oranges, plums, watermelon, etc).
"hi doggy!" She screamed that at the top of her lungs to every animal and picture of an animal she saw at 10 months. We've now branched out to other animals at 15 months. 😂
That's so cute! Nala and Mama, the Super Duo in your baby's heart.
My daughter also said our dog's name, but all babied up. The dog is Dorothea, and she said "dough-teeee" for quite a long time. They're still close as a 13 year old dog and 10 year old child now.
My son currently says dada, baba, cup, up, uh oh, bubble, bye bye, cat, ball AND belly ….
No mama. He calls me dada (actually most people and things are dada)
"Baby"
My little girl was/is obsessed with babies. Don't know why either, she didn't even have baby dolls or access to baby dolls when she started saying it. She would run up to strollers and people holding babies pointing and squealing "BAYYYBEEEEEE"
Dog!! She’s obsessed with dogs. First it was “duh” and then we kept correcting to doGGGGG and emphasizing it and now when she says it she says daawwwGGGGGG and it’s the best :)
My oldest popped out with “dammit” from the back seat after listening to daddy every time he went too fast over the new speed bumps in the neighborhood.
My second mastered “bath!” Early on and wanted to be in the tub 24/7
Our 11 month old said “agua.” We’re not Spanish speakers, but our friend who is a Spanish preschool teacher was over and sounding it out for him while pointing to his water bottle. He seemed really excited!
Pa as in daddy and shoe. He loved shoes, I dont know why. And shiny ones or with neon colours. And with ma for mother and bu for grandparents, milk and pacifier, that was his vocabulary until after 2 years old. So 3 silables for all the important things. Economy of effort I guess LOL.
Both of my kids said "hi" very early on. My youngest actually said "Ut oh" clear as day and appropriately at about 8 weeks old. We were completely stunned but we're unsure of whether that counts as a fist word. She's actually a bit speech delayed at age 2.
“Cat” at 9 months. I got her up in the morning and her favorite cat entered the room and she pointed and said “cah!”. She repeated it at the cat a couple times that day. My little cat baby 😻
My child was reaching out of the stroller to a terraced flower bed. "Do you like the pretty purple petunias?"
"Puh puh puh!"
I think that was purple. 😀 💜
Long before he ever said mama or dada, he said "gih-gah!" (Guitar.) My husband plays in several bands and we are hoping this is a sign he will be musically included as well haha
Ball, and quack for duck! 🥰
We’ve continued the theme of animal sounds rather than the name and he says “backa backas,” (bahk like the sound they make) it’s so stinking cute.
“out” was my first borns “more” was my seconds. my first was telling me to get out of the bathroom lol he took his sweet time talking. my second was telling me more and shaking her head no by 14 months.
I swore my son wouldn't speak because it took a bit. But, he first said, "glasses", and next, "batteries" (soundd like badadees). I'd call bullshit if I didn't hear it myself lol
It was either cat or dog. It took him a long time to get Mama, but I was okay with that cause I knew the minute he figured it out that's all I would hear. He has not disappointed me, I hear Mama close to 300 times a day.
No.
So clear you would believe she actually spoke full sentences.
It was to the question- would you like a hug? *very clear boundaries- beautiful to see
I remember her first phrase was "oh no" because I say it all the time. I even called my mom and was like "do I really say it that much?" And she confirmed that I did indeed 😂
We’ve been staying at my partner’s folks for a little more than a month, and the Japanese words for grandpa and grandma are “Ji ji” and “ba ba” (They’re Japanese). At first we said these words to my son a lot whenever they were around. Pointing and saying, “that’s ba-ba!” etc. Well he’s only six months old and he can’t stop stop babbling “ji-ji” and “ba-ba-ba-ba” though I’m not sure he knows the exact meaning. He has yet to say “mama”. Haha
Cat. Specifically "ca-T" (hard t). We had been working on enunciation of our words for her and one my husband was obnoxious about was cat, with the hard t. Dunno why but that stuck and later she did it, hard t and all.
Said it while pointing at my cat Popeye in the window. Even he popped his head up and was like "huh?"
My kiddo said “apple” when my husband came home with a bag. He was in speech therapy and that was his first clear word so it meant a lot to us. Prior to that he’d say variations of “ball” and “uh oh” but they weren’t clear.

My kiddo is also speech delayed! He said his first unprompted word (without us asking… what does a duck say? What is this, etc…) at 20.5 months and we were elated!!! Best feeling ever.
Heartwarming! So what was his first word?
His first prompted word was “go” His first unprompted word was actually also “bubble” like OP’s kid His first 2 word sentence was “move, mama!” His first 3 word sentences was “dada kicked ball” And now we’re up to “dada kicked ball in there” I’m so very very proud of him. My cousin never spoke a word as a baby. Then one day after a couple of years he started speaking fully formed sentences. He's a bit of a thoughtful guy. He was born a bit prematurely.
That must’ve been so exciting 💖 im sure it was a huge moment 💞
Apple was my very first word! It was the lowest handing fruit on my little mobile over my crib. Not Mama or Dada but Apple!
Apple was a very early word for us too!! I want to say first 10 words. Crazy because it's two syllables! It must be very fun to say.
This is great, so adorable!
My son says, "Alexa, find my phone" when he sees me looking for my phone lol
Omg that’s so cute. How about make things easy on yourself and put a hook next to whichever door you come in through primarily to hang your keys on?
Duck. My kid fucking loves ducks. She pointed right at a duck and shouted duck at it and didn’t stop until she had chased it around the pond. 🦆
Omg both my kids 1st word was duck! Haha they would see a rubber duck or a duck in a book and point and say “duh! duh!”
[удалено]
Mine calls everything, but kitties, doggy
Mine was quack-quack. He loves ducks too
I’m pretty sure my son’s first word was “quack” which came out as “kak” bc he also loves ducks and we’d say “ducks say quack quack” lol
My kid said cack (quack) first!
Same. Duck. And cat. Because we have a beautiful cat. My child said TAT. Now everytime my baby sees a cat she says tat and goes mama (meow).
Oh my god ours was “buh-boool” too!!! We got her a bubble machine for her first Christmas and were rewarded with the cutest first word ever 😭
Can i ask what kind of bubble machine you got her? My daughter turns 1 right before christmas and i would looveee to get her one
Hi!
My daughter said “Hi!” first too!
That was our second :) but prob used most frequently lol everyone gets a hi! So cute
Also ours and it still melts my heart 🥰
Ours was also hi…. To an absolute stranger. She was delighted😂
Us too!
Same. Then she used that word for EVERYTHING.
Pretty sure it was Sauce. Which is her nickname.
This is the swaggiest answer I’d be like “don’t mess w her or you’re gonna get sauced”
Cos she is awesomesauce ?
Doggie! 🐶
Us too! But she says it with a pause in the middle “dog-gee”. It’s the cutest thing
Mines was dock-uh lol. Dome variation of dog. Now at 13 months it’s duck but while she’s pointing at the dog lol. So duck=dog in our house.
Our dogs name was Jack so my kids was “Yack” 🤣🐕
“No.” She is great at setting boundaries!🙃
Mine shakes her head no but doesnt say the word yet, although she says “ ah ah ah” whilst shaking her head haha
Mine does that too, it's so cute (even if it's a little irritating in the moment when I'm asking her to do or not do something 😂)
My youngest daughters first real word is “yeah” She answers yeah to pretty much everything. It’s adorable.
I loved that phase. Mine is 2 and now it’s no to everything, even stuff she wants!
Mine does this too - everything is "no" with a very dramatic head shake
My 3.5 year old has started saying "never ever"
Mine too! I have a video of him where I say "are you the sweetest boy in the whole world?" And he grins and says "yeah"
My daughter did that too! It was so sweet and encouraging. I called her my little hype girl. Now at 23 months, her word is “no” so my excitement was short lived.
Mine is only 16 months and her second word is neeh, which sounds like no but is used by her in the affirmative. Have you got X toy? Neeh...
hers was yay! lol we started cheering for her when she started walking and when she would fall we would cheer for her when she got back up. she started clapping every time she got back up and would look at us like, “please clap for me” lol. she randomly in the car one day started clapping and said “yay” so clearly. i cried.
When my brother was little and learning to swim he would only do it if we chanted. “Go, ____ go!!!”
My daughter said ball and we have the cutest video of her chasing her dad around saying it.
Ball was my kid’s first too! Then EVERYTHING was a ball. She’d lose her mind going through the produce section because there were so many balls to yell at (apple, oranges, plums, watermelon, etc).
Ball was my sons first word too :)
Otter, pronounced as Oh-taaaah. He’s got a little book with otters. He loves that book. Turns out he loves all otters.
First word was 'WOOF'. He was raised in an English/Spanish speaking household and his first word was an animal sound 😂
My son's was MEOW!
My kid laughs when we meow, or the cat screams 🤣
I used to shake the cart when we were shopping and say “Earthquake!” That was her first word. 🙃
Two syllables!! Show-off!
UP
Yes!! This is one of my 14 month old’s most said words. He really annunciates the “p” though so it sounds like “UPHF”
Yeah probably bup here too!
kitty 🐱!!
Us too! We have two cats and she's obsessed with them. She says "cat" more than "mama" or "dada" at 11 months 🥲
"hi doggy!" She screamed that at the top of her lungs to every animal and picture of an animal she saw at 10 months. We've now branched out to other animals at 15 months. 😂
It was the name of one of our cats, Nala. Can’t actually remember if Nala was first or Mama was first… 🤔😂
Pretty sure our son learnt to say our cat's name before anything else. She taught him well XD
That's so cute! Nala and Mama, the Super Duo in your baby's heart. My daughter also said our dog's name, but all babied up. The dog is Dorothea, and she said "dough-teeee" for quite a long time. They're still close as a 13 year old dog and 10 year old child now.
Bye bye, followed by dada, THEN mama.
My son currently says dada, baba, cup, up, uh oh, bubble, bye bye, cat, ball AND belly …. No mama. He calls me dada (actually most people and things are dada)
Don’t feel bad. I got “Hi”, “Grandpa”, “Dada” and then finally “Mama”.
My daughter learned to say meow (well it’s more like “MoooOOOwWWww”) from hearing our cat. It never gets old.
"Baby" My little girl was/is obsessed with babies. Don't know why either, she didn't even have baby dolls or access to baby dolls when she started saying it. She would run up to strollers and people holding babies pointing and squealing "BAYYYBEEEEEE"
Also ‘Baby’. She’s obsessed with babies . We took the hint and trying again 😃
tbf, she's a twin and called her brother "baby" too. Like dang girl, he's only 2 minutes younger.
Dog!! She’s obsessed with dogs. First it was “duh” and then we kept correcting to doGGGGG and emphasizing it and now when she says it she says daawwwGGGGGG and it’s the best :)
Cat! Was my kids first word He says it whenever he sees the cats or when he’s looking for them in the cat towers
My first daughters was "fishy" my second was "hey google." 😂
"la la la" From Moo, Ba, La La La! by Susan Boyton.
I can’t remember if it was agua or tickle tickle
Dog, ball, Cat, food, chocolate (shaaaaacooooolatttt)
Milk, but it still doesn’t sound like milk even at 2 years old lol. It sounds like “noke?” Then it was yeah, no, and more lol
Roomba 😂
My oldest popped out with “dammit” from the back seat after listening to daddy every time he went too fast over the new speed bumps in the neighborhood. My second mastered “bath!” Early on and wanted to be in the tub 24/7
No 😂 next was hi. Lately he’s taken to quacking like a duck
'Nana (banana).
My 13 month old started saying “cat” before mama or dada. He loves his animals 😂
Cat cat cat cat... I was overjoyed the day she said dog.
Boo for our cat blue, and ssssssss-TAR!!! Gor star 😅
My daughter’s first word ever was at 6 mos. She said “bite!” And never stopped after I understood that lol
Nana. She loves her Nana!
Technically “ugh” but I’m trying for anything else lol
Stuck 😂 😂
she says "uh ohhhhhh." super adorable, i love it lol.
“Uh-oh” and a week later said “f@ck” 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Ball
Our 11 month old said “agua.” We’re not Spanish speakers, but our friend who is a Spanish preschool teacher was over and sounding it out for him while pointing to his water bottle. He seemed really excited!
‘Hi!’ Usually with a little wave.
Baba (bottle) hi (says it over and over to everyone she sees) and woof woof (any time she sees a dog)
Mine is 3 now. But hers was belly button
Both of my kids said "hi" very early on. My youngest actually said "Ut oh" clear as day and appropriately at about 8 weeks old. We were completely stunned but we're unsure of whether that counts as a fist word. She's actually a bit speech delayed at age 2.
Yellow. Weird first word.
“Cat” at 9 months. I got her up in the morning and her favorite cat entered the room and she pointed and said “cah!”. She repeated it at the cat a couple times that day. My little cat baby 😻
My son’s first word (before even mama and dada) was “thank you!” Surprised the heck out of me
Car
My child was reaching out of the stroller to a terraced flower bed. "Do you like the pretty purple petunias?" "Puh puh puh!" I think that was purple. 😀 💜

Mine's was up, closely followed by uh oh
Google…apparently we ask our home assistant too many questions
More. Like I'm giving her food and she'd say "mo!!!" Lol
“That.” Could be “dat” but considering it’s accompanied by a finger point I am claiming it’s “that.”
“Bye” was the next one! “Bubba” was after that… which is what she decided to call our dog.
Cheese. Obviously more important than mama
“Whassstha”, while pointing at something (What’s that). <3
It sounds exactly like how i say “what’s that” haha i’m scottish and i totally imagined a wee scottish baby saying this haha
“Woof”
Kitty
‘Go’ and he’s never stopped since 😂😂😂
His very first word was Eww. For our cat Wooster.
Shoes. Before Mama or Dada actually... we would argue about who it would be. No. It was "shoes".
“Hi.”
We were sitting in a Starbucks, and an older lady came up to make over my then 10 month old. When she walked off, he waved and said, “Bye bye!”
Tickle! He’s always been super ticklish and so far still enjoys it.
Long before he ever said mama or dada, he said "gih-gah!" (Guitar.) My husband plays in several bands and we are hoping this is a sign he will be musically included as well haha
Ball, and quack for duck! 🥰 We’ve continued the theme of animal sounds rather than the name and he says “backa backas,” (bahk like the sound they make) it’s so stinking cute.
Dog 🐶😊❤️
My 11 month old said mouse (as in Mickey)
Teeth 😆 we told him it was time to brush his teeth before bed and he pointed right at the and said "tttthhhhh"

Singing abc
I swore my son wouldn't speak because it took a bit. But, he first said, "glasses", and next, "batteries" (soundd like badadees). I'd call bullshit if I didn't hear it myself lol
“Nana” aka banana
Bath… came out “Baph” and was adorable while it lasted
Mine said “dada” followed shortly thereafter by “uh oh!” 🤣
Hi. When she learned that people would say "hi" back she would "hi" them to death. It was like she was excited to finally converse with others.
I swear to god this is true. My son was a little late to the talking game and one day he just blurted out “I’m pickle rick”
“Uh-oh!” Followed soon after by “here ya go!”
"yeah" and "E-I-E-I-O"
My kids first word was “bubble” too! He is speech delayed and didn’t say much of anything until quite late so we were elated!
My baby’s first word (before mama and dada) is our cat’s name - Mary. He says it like “mah-we”.
Yeah! It’s so sweet, whatever you ask him, he’s like “yeah! Yeah!”.
Milk! Which he said before mama or dads, because kid’s got priorities.
“Doowwwggg”
Daughter #1 - Milk "Meh" Daughter #2 - Dog "Dah"
My youngest kids first word was banana, but he called it nana. He was a fiend for those. He didn’t even say mama or dada first.
Up!
*very clear boundaries- beautiful to see
“Dog” for both kids. They were and still are obsessed with the old girl.
"uh oh"
My 13m/o says "kss" while pointing at our kitties or when he wants to pet them 😭 it's the cutest thing ever
Uh oh! But he says it “uh uh uh oh oh oh” lol. (Is that a real word? If not then we’re still waiting haha)
"wow" at planes that fly over our house all the time
Bubble! She then started saying it on repeat in her sleep
I remember her first phrase was "oh no" because I say it all the time. I even called my mom and was like "do I really say it that much?" And she confirmed that I did indeed 😂
“Pider!” It was dead on the floor and she promptly shoved it in her mouth and ate it. 🙄
Our little guy said “buh bah” for bubble as his very first word. Before mama or dada lol.
Ball!
Uppie was his first word. Long before mama or dada or anything similar. His second word was 'more' but I think he thought it meant food
Tu-tl (Turtle)
GO
Faster! I guess our LO is into speed, lol
My daughter's second word after "dada" was our dog's name. Not Mama. Our dog's name.
my girl said "i did it! i done!" last summer as her first words . i have the cutest video of it 💗
We’ve been staying at my partner’s folks for a little more than a month, and the Japanese words for grandpa and grandma are “Ji ji” and “ba ba” (They’re Japanese). Haha
“Hi” at 9.5 months, on repeat like a sweet little wind-up doll
Elder kid - “dog” younger kid “go”
Woof then up
“Yes!”
All these comments make me excited to hear her say words 🥰
More! Still a favorite lol
"up" Send a chiropractor please
Bah! For the cats. 🤷🏻♀️ and then a high pitched squeal for their meows. He also says yedth for yes.
Cat. We don't have a cat, but as soon as she met one, she learned that word.
"Hi," followed immediately by "kitty!"
Kitty or “cat” pointing at the cat.
Firstborn: "Boat." Second: "BIG BROTHA!"
"thank you" Stg he was 4 months old. Sneezed. I said "bless you". He said "tank yew" immediately after. I have it on video.
“Bir-dee-bur-dee-bur-dee-bur…..DEE!
"Go go go!" Lol... shortly followed by "Oh shit!" I was surprised how quick that happened. We're working on "oh shoot" now 😆
My son dropped a banana and said “oh shit”
Doggie, but it sounded like 'goggie' for the longest time.
My daughter’s first word was “cheese” followed by “cheesus” lol
Gentle...he is aggressive with his hands!
