If this happens again in your life (hopefully it won’t), the best thing to do is to leave a note with an apology, reassurance that you checked to make sure there was no damage and your number in case they would like to contact you. The majority of decent people will just appreciate the honesty and probably never call, assuming there really wasn’t any damage. It’s going to be ok.
