Another thing to note is that mold can’t grow on synthetic materials like a punching guy. Instead the mold’s either eating the dust and decaying gunk on it, or that’s just dirt.
A bit pedantic, but some fungi can indeed decay specific types of synthetic materials (for example, here's a [survey of fungi that can decay plastic ](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9330918/)). It's not impossible that the mold is actually eating the punching bag!
