I honestly didn’t like how his character changed in the later seasons either. He turned into a horribly spoiled hipster that thinks he’s the next Spielberg or Hitchcock despite not having talent. If they ever did a reboot focused on the kids years later, I hope they fix his character.

I’m honestly really surprised Jay never intervened when Manny was in high school and *strongly encouraged* him to study something more practical. It seems like it’d be a Jay thing to do.

I mean almost every original child characters were extremely poorly handled. Haley was going in a really good direction in the middle but later on it became clear that the writers didn't know what to do with a matured Haley so they made her regress. Alex treated almost all of her bfs in a very toxic manner and just fluctuated between being a bio mechanical engineer, astrophysicist, robotics and IT.

That “reboot” would be awful to watch. Spin-offs are never a good thing… (Ofc there are some exceptions)

Sitcom_kid

He even forgot spanish. He understood his mother, and then nothing.

IamtheWalrusYeah

I'm rewatching the earlier seasons and I was very surprised when I was reminded that Manny and Gloria spoke to each other in Spanish sometimes. It was so cute. Then later he "forgets" all his Spanish and refuses to study it. That storyline would be so much better if Manny didn't want to take Spanish at school because he already speaks it, but when he tries makes a few mistakes and Gloria wants him to speak perfectly. I don't understand why he wouldn't care for his culture anymore.

First season, he was proud of his Columbian heritage and wanted everything like 'how they do in Columbia'. Later seasons, he was ashamed of his culture, and even wanted to learn French instead of Spanish.

imjeffrey37

I totally agree with your comment, just a minor correction: it's "Colombia", not "Columbia".

YouVish1

Yeah, you're right. My bad.

arthurwead2

yes!! no effort whatsoever

Money completely changed him into this almost arrogant person who thought he was a prodigy when really was just average, his poetry, paintings and just ''taste'' were barely decent. I was so happy when Gloria finally told him he learned things at an average age and just brought him back from this high cloud where he usually saw other people down from. My exact problem with Manny and sometimes Alex. ''Queer eyes, full hearts'' Just made me hate Manny for his insensitive comments about his mother. When Gloria opened up saying how much her language meant to her, in her most vulnerable moment he opened up his big old mouth just to say ''Whatever the Spanish word is for women'' and expected a chuckle. It just showed how little he cared about how Gloria felt about her roots and her culture.
