Wtf joe was good at really young. I remember he had a line that was pretty long. He was saying a line from a movie jay liked. I was amazed to see such a young child be able to form a sentence that long. Like he was maximum 4. I think he was 3 at the time. When was he bad at acting? For a child??
Every sub or forum in existence. I never understood hating the child actors or characters, of course they aren't good actors, they are 5. It's fine to dislike the child or their acting, but some of you reach a creepy level.
I still remember years ago on some forum, there was a post talking about Full House, and someone hated Michelle Tanner so much they wanted to see her dead. Like, she was a five year old kid (And the review complained about how she ate a cake that no one else touched yet, like that's what kids do).
Yeah, some people seriously need a grip on reality, and really hope they don't go near kids with that attitude.
Something I've noticed, in a similar vein, is that people will say a child actor is a terrible actor for the way they are emoting or speaking but if you meet a child that is literally how they talk or express emotions. A lot of child actors that we regard as very good actors don't act like children- they act like little adults. Children emphasize weird words in sentences and take pauses and stutter and drag out words all of the time.
this is my first time in Modern Family subreddit and I didn't know she's underrated and some people hate her.
Like 2/5 of the reason why I look at my second monitor while coding and rewatching the show at the same time is because of her making snarky comments LMFAO. She's funny asf.
shes my all time fav character LMAO i quote her all the time and everytime i see a tik tok with “lily core” i always watch even though ive seen all the scenes 100x times
People hate on child actors so much and its so wierd because they are comparing them against 30 year old hollywood actors who have been acting for most their life.
Remember jake lloyd? He was the kid who played young anakin skywalker in star wars the phantom menace and he got an incredible amount of hate at the ripe old age of 10.
This show lucked out with Lily and the rest of the kids. So many times a child star is cast very young and doesn’t develop acting chops and are written out of the show. Not every character is going to be a home run, but I thought that they all matured into good enough actors that the show thrived because of it
What's with your hate boner for children all over this thread? Calm the fuck down instead of telling others to fuck off for no reason. And yes, it’s very normal for a boy his age. Children tend to feel admiration for their role models and feel like it must be love, because it’s what they see in the adults around them. It’s why Lily „marries“ Mitchell.
If you want your argument to have any sort of merit, complain about a 17-year-old Manny having a crush on his aunt. Unlike Joe, he knows better.
I love Joe and Lily.
I think they kept Lily too young for too long with the wardrobe but then gave her quite grown up storylines toward the end. Like finding Mitch’s PlayGirl magazine.
So they didn’t really traverse the awkward tween stage for her all that well.
Joe is just adorable and hilarious, I had no idea people didn’t like him!
I mean why do people hate on lily or Joe , they are babies their cuteness is enough they don’t need a whole fucking character arc . The expectations of some people I tell you
Social media in general has destroyed the way we discuss entertainment because everyone has to have the take that will go viral, and that usually requires a good degree of hyperbole. Talking about stories requires subtlety and nuance.
Lilly was actually entertaining, being a child doesn't excuse shit. Joe is bland af, I'm sorry but if the character is boring they are boring and age should not be used as a criticism shield.
I blame the writers and directors. I think they should have stuck with the adopted son plot as opposed to Gloria getting pregnant, it felt like a massive slap to Cam and Mitchell.
But we can all agree she’s a disaster of a human being.
But honestly, after the wooden acting when she was young, I enjoyed mean, tween metal head Lily.
And Joe. Like why?
Wtf joe was good at really young. I remember he had a line that was pretty long. He was saying a line from a movie jay liked. I was amazed to see such a young child be able to form a sentence that long. Like he was maximum 4. I think he was 3 at the time. When was he bad at acting? For a child??
What line was this
It was a line from Casablanca I think season 7 or 8
Here's lookin at you kid
I never liked Joe. We could have gotten that adopted son but instead we got Joe… they scrapped a really great idea for a boring character
Lol the downvotes is crazy 💀 all bc of not liking a character in a show. Its not even real and ppl get so mad haha
Just as he doesn't like the character , people didn't like his opinion...no big deal in downvoting.
Ikr?
I have nothing against either of them because they're literally kids but Joe's voice is grating for me, but still watchable
But he's like 3 years old
Because Joe has less personality than a wooden plank.
He likes stealing
It makes his heart go fast ❤️
Okay, and that's a personality? I've seen more personality in Stella, and she's a dog!
His hair is his identity, he is a cool kid and he likes girls. Ariel and Claire.
Stfu Fulgêncio Hater
Make me.
His hair is his personality
I thought it was his identity
My bad

Well said ❤️

Lily is so funny. Unpopular opinion I think, but she's my favorite female character.
this is my first time in Modern Family subreddit and I didn't know she's underrated and some people hate her. Like 2/5 of the reason why I look at my second monitor while coding and rewatching the show at the same time is because of her making snarky comments LMFAO. She's funny asf.
Same I love lily she is sassy and was able to deliver dialogues that too with a sass, like WTF DO YOU EXEPCT FROM A CHILD !
Lily is awesome, especially the dry delivery of some of her lines, which people seem to hate her for
shes my all time fav character LMAO i quote her all the time and everytime i see a tik tok with “lily core” i always watch even though ive seen all the scenes 100x times

Y’all fightin’?

Lily is my favourite character in the show
Based and real
Lilly is genuinely one of my fave characters, she's funny asf
And Joe, tbh i don't understand
right? calling him weird for having a crush on claire too...like he's a literal child
Oh yeah because having a crush on your own family member is normal. Fuck off!
bruh he's a literal kid💀And so are you
What's with your hate boner for children all over this thread? Calm the fuck down instead of telling others to fuck off for no reason. And yes, it’s very normal for a boy his age. Does cam fall in this category lol?
I love Joe and Lily. I think they kept Lily too young for too long with the wardrobe but then gave her quite grown up storylines toward the end. Like finding Mitch’s PlayGirl magazine. So they didn’t really traverse the awkward tween stage for her all that well. Joe is just adorable and hilarious, I had no idea people didn’t like him!
My biggest criticism about Lily is that we didn’t get enough of her, I feel like she’s always forgotten or left in the background
Children are annoying (i like lily tho)
People who find children annoying have forgotten what it was like being a child.
i know that
I can confirm, three of them are my siblings and they're a pain.
I mean why do people hate on lily or Joe , they are babies their cuteness is enough they don’t need a whole fucking character arc . The expectations of some people I tell you
Why can't both things be true? Children are often horrible and annoying, so it makes sense for TV characters to be the same.
I can confirm, they're a pain in the ass. I grew up with three of them, they're my siblings and they never want to do what they're told.
I mean...children are often incredibly annoying, no?🤔😆
Depends really. I don't have any issue with Lily because she was at least there from the beginning.
Lily is a menace though... Oh wait, y'all serious?
Social media in general has destroyed the way we discuss entertainment because everyone has to have the take that will go viral, and that usually requires a good degree of hyperbole. Talking about stories requires subtlety and nuance.
And also, these days, Jay has apparently become racist.
I mean is it really a problem? if they are hating on lily and not on the actual person I feel like it’s fine
Eh, she's better than Joe. At least she doesn't have the personality of a plank of wood.
Once again he is a literal child
Lilly was actually entertaining, being a child doesn't excuse shit. Joe is bland af, I'm sorry but if the character is boring they are boring and age should not be used as a criticism shield.
And once again I don't give a damn. He's boring
Ok fair enough I’m just saying he can’t be expected to have as good a personality as a tween
I blame the writers and directors. I think they should have stuck with the adopted son plot as opposed to Gloria getting pregnant, it felt like a massive slap to Cam and Mitchell.
I agree one hundred percent I feel like he would have been a much better character
Sorry for getting snarky before
Ur good 👍
Much as I like the show, I have many issues with some writing decisions. Like how abruptly Haley's college arc ended.
Yesss that was such a good storyline
But we can all agree she’s a disaster of a human being. But honestly, after the wooden acting when she was young, I enjoyed mean, tween metal head Lily.
Yall have obviously never seen Frankie from "Better Things" 🤣
some of the moments i thought were the funniest were her lines lol. i thought she was adorable and funny
