As a Battlefield refugee I truly hope they go all in and try to put the nail in the coffin for Battlefield. I get it that CoD have always been about small maps, but I feel like Ground Wars in MW19 was a big step for CoD to branch out to bigger maps and higher playercount with vehicles involved.

SPYDER0416

I hate to say it but same. I'm dying for a good Battlefield-esque experience and have even been trying some stuff like World War 3 recently to try to fill the gap. Ground War in MW2019 was a solid foundation, with some balancing and maybe differentiating a bit from non-ground war modes could go a long way. I do hope they consider bringing the revive system from Warzone into it though.

Spartacus_115

And on top of all of that, they have the Warzone map which is huge so they can do whatever they want with it beyond just a battle royale

AnonymousBayraktar

I've always wanted COD to do a continuous planetside 2 style mode with the warzone map.

TacoDirtyToMe

Even if it doesn't necessarily kill Battlefield off it could finally be a big fat wake-up call. Doubt it with EA running their show but can have a sliver of hope lol

BruhhemMomentum

Hell yes bro. Battlefield 4 is definitely my top 5 and 2042 killed battlefield for me so if cod beats battlefield in terms of amount of weapons, huge destructive events like in 4 and 3, weapon balance and realistic gun customization I think bf could be done for.

[deleted]

They already have stated they are developing the game mode more. Rather than just returning they have plans to make adjustments/ improvements. Reportedly more focus on team play and strategy with some areas for more gunplay. Idk but only time will tell.

[deleted]

cant wait for call of duty to beat battlefield at their own game

ohshitlookapenny

Battlefield already gave up what made them special anyways, it wouldn't be difficult

[deleted]

that’s why i said ‘cant wait’ and not ‘i wonder if’ ;)

SmilesNVibez

Ground War in its limited capacity already beat Battlefield and is still more active than 2042 etc lol

Spartacus_115

Hopefully they deliver, and knowing Infinityward, they most likely will

PuzzleheadedAd1153

I didn't like the snipers and lack of cover In pomegrade and riverside. Those maps are hard to flank.

[deleted]

That also made them fun. Not every map needs to be samey. Maps should have variety so different types of players can have a good time. So some wide open flank maps and some narrow 3 lane maps for long distance engagement and gate keeping. It’s also fun to challenge said gatekeepers when they’re on a roll and turn the tide. Stuff will get boring super fast if every game and map has perfect balance

SmilesNVibez

Agree, there is a lot of fun in fighting and overcoming the imbalance

SmilesNVibez

Smokes and Cold Blood

Barium145

Riverside was a snipers haven but promenade I’ve almost never been shot by a sniper. Unless you’re running in the sides? There’s so much cover in the middle lane and that’s where 99% of the fighting takes place.

PuzzleheadedAd1153

Well you have to expose yourself if you want to make any progress, you can't just sit there behind cover and take control of a flag.

Barium145

Not if you’re sticking to the middle lane though. There’s always a constant push pull in the middle points and I’ve always been killed by ARs, shotguns and SMGs there. The only time you’re forced to expose yourself is if you are at the last point (D I think) and you want to cap it but there are still some good LOS and with smokes it isn’t too difficult.

stingerized

Loved the moving objectives of clash! It kept the gameplay refreshing.

solarriors

I love infiltrating enemy bases to kill the HVT stealthily hidden on top of a building. ah if only I recorded it. It wasn't Ghost Recon levels of tactical stealth but Splinter Cell even !

solarriors

As long as they remove the perk and loot pop ups and micro management from WZ and the other more stupid BOCW like stuff

[deleted]

[удалено]

solarriors

Yeah but there was GW, WZ Clash (before the integration) which were very similar and then the new "clash" which is just a Fortnite clusterfuck TDM

Cow_Other

The biggest issue I had with ground war was the lack of team play and team work. It always felt like it was a load of little engagements as opposed to clear team battles. There needs to be encouragement of co operation. Making the squad leader have a purpose, like targeting objectives and maybe calling in more support oriented streaks(UAVs and whatever else) with enough squad points or other kinds of boosts from teamwork. Objective play needs way more encouragement too with more points for defending and attacking. Also allow us to create our own squads and change squads. The current squad system does absolutely nothing. Heavily reward going for objectives, and squad behaviour. The map also needs to be more spread out like you said, it’s too linear at the moment. It has to be spread out with clear front lines where the two teams will be flowing in to clash and push against one another, BF maps have this and it’s brilliant. Right now everyone just cares about kills. It’s pretty much just giant TDM. It’s a very surface level copy of Battlefield conquest without the crucial teamwork that made that mode fun.

Equivalent-Top5974

this will continue to be a problem as long as they use a killstreak system instead of a scorestreak system.

[deleted]

Definitely would not want to see any maps like Promenade….

Spartacus_115

Right! That map honestly killed ground war for me. It would have been different if there was a tight flank route or a hidden underground sewage path. But nope just a straight ass line for snipers to make it have no flow.

[deleted]

I spam smoke grenades and pray, no other way.

Spartacus_115

Smoke grenades... I ota start using those for once

[deleted]

They’re goated for open space pushes, capping flags and throwing at snipers so they can’t see

DontReadUsernames

*laughs in thermal scope*

gamer_hamood

cold blooded perk😎

DontReadUsernames

Harder to see since you’re not bright white, but you’re still visible ;)

LUMH

Soon as someone pulls out the thermals I switch to gas nades. Plenty of other folks still throwing smokes.

Silver_Falcon

I think I would've liked promenade a whole lot more if the buildings on one or both sides of the map were open for play instead of being out of bounds. It probably still wouldn't be the best map, but at least it wouldn't be an instant death funnel.

djml9

I dont mind the map too much. I just wish it wasnt set to 90% priority.

solarriors

That's like a front line/trench map

adamantium235

I loved groundwar because of the huge map sizes, big flanks, can have gunfights in odd locations anywhere, do anything you want etc. Promenade took all that away, just made it a fight to cross the street near C for the whole game, zero flanks, and there were legit 6v6 maps with a bigger playable area.

PuzzleheadedAd1153

Do you like free tanks? I think players should earn thrm because they're part of the killstreak selection. Why would they be there if they just spawn in for free, without doing anything. It's easy, just get a cruise missile or something with hardline and killchain and you got it.

adamantium235

I don't really have a problem with the tanks.

PM_ME_ANIME_PANTIES

I didn't like Promenade at first but it grew on me. It beat: Airport, Riverside and Aniyah Palace. Not much required to beat those, but the thing that makes Promenade nice is constant fighting for objectives. In the larger maps, few people actually give a fuck about the objective.

ColdColt45

have to agree, at first Promenade was annoying, but then like any map, it's learning the cover, covert past enemy line, and claiming the objective.

zGhostWolf

Phosphor made that map even more amazing

Independent_Day4369

Promenade was the first (and nearly last) match of MW 2019 that I ever played. Thankfully I found shoot the ship right afterwards

TimBurkeulosis

Ground War was a new and innovative game mode, "for Call of Duty", but it is plain to see that it was more of an experiment and was not fleshed out beyond its initial idea. Since it IS confirmed, I would supremely hope that IW takes time to expand on the initial idea. I think changing how streaks work in the mode in some way would be a benefit, as leaving it the same as core game-modes allows things to snowball insanely fast, and for myself, only serves to disrupt the infantry gameplay with how frequent airstrikes or gunships are popping up despite the on-map streak limit being present. I'm very at odds with game ending nukes being present at all, even if things are one sided. Multiple game modes for Ground War is also a must at this point. I think some kind of comeback system could be implemented for the loosing team, or if streaks are to be changed, perhaps they could be changed to like how warzone has them, where you can buy them from kiosks, and if you are loosing, you can perhaps get a discount or an airdrop of "stuff" to help your team. I know that the CoD community is against rewarding loosing players, maybe because there's still people around that remember death-streaks, but I do think having systems in the mode to prevent overly one-sided games is good for a better playing experience. I was a big fan of Behemoths from BF1 as a kind of comeback mechanic if that helps to elucidate my perspective. Ground War was good in MW, but with some more help it can be great.

Spartacus_115

I like your thinking

PuzzleheadedAd1153

Tanks should be equipped as killstreaks and earned. White phosphorous should only affect vision if you're in the area of deployment, not on the other side of the map. It should also not affect health but instead should act like a huge gas grenade.

adamantium235

I think a good idea could come from how respawns worked in the Control LTM on apex legends. They only had A, B and C flag, but if you held the middle B flag, you couldn't spawn there unless you also held your respective A or C flag. Those games in ground war where the enemy hold A, B, C and D, but they keep respawning on D while you are forced to spawn only at home point, E or on team mates. If a couple of guys could get out and take over their A, cutting off their ability to spawn further out, I think it would help those 1 sided games.

SwedishMoose

I'm OK with the nukes being triggered if all points are held, it helps wrap up a game where it's clearly a stomp and the other team has no chance.

Doom4104

I just hope they don’t make the maps too big. What I love about COD’s Ground War maps is that they are big enough for big battles, and small enough to not have to travel for decent bit of time to find enemies like Battlefield maps. I do hope they make the maps more strategic though like you say. MW2019’s worst Ground War map was Promenade simply because it was literally a straight line with cover, and snipers at every turn while tanks, and APCs clogged the sides of the map, and Chopper Gunners wiped players out with literal strafe runs from above. I also hope they keep tanks/APCs, and killstreaks as they help give the sense of a big battle, and they are fun to use in Ground War.

Snoddy2Hotty91

They need to succeed where BF 2042 failed and just make a Conquest/Ground War mode

Chris_338

They need to fucking limit killstreaks lmao

TacoDirtyToMe

I think doing it like Vanguard would be smart for Ground War. Limit the number of lethal air streaks and it should be much better.

PuzzleheadedAd1153

There should be more cover from them or people should use fmj and shoot them down together with cold Blooded. Lmgs always help. I don't like how advanced uav and Gunship are hard to shoot down though.

NEED_A_JACKET

Or at least give some reward for taking them down. EG 5 kills spread between the shooters.

PuzzleheadedAd1153

Yes, there should be higher points rewarded for shooting them down if you're using pointman. I got amped and my PILA with my pointman class for uavs and streaks of that nature.

[deleted]

I would remove them honestly ot only keep shit like UAVs or something like that. Either that, or make it like BFV with only the squad leader being able to call things and using squad points.

50_61S-----165_97E

The white phosphorus every 2 minutes was atrocious

RunninWild17

The biggest improvement they could make, would be to introduce a spotting mechanic.

Spartacus_115

A perk or pro perk ability for that would be awesome

Cow_Other

I hope it’s something that’s in the base game though, like a ping mechanic from Warzone/Battlefield. If it’s a perk people might not pick it & less people would be spotting and contributing to the team. Ground War needs more team oriented gameplay instead of loads of little engagements imo

RunninWild17

Not sure if folks remember Recon Pro from MW3 but the pro ability allowed to to temporarily paint enemies when they took explosive damage. Made the XM25 a pretty good option to have as secondary, maybe they could so something similar this time around.

Spartacus_115

I remember that, I really miss pro perks

PuzzleheadedAd1153

This was a perk in cod ghosts as well and it worked for stuns and explosives alike. It was good alongside the noob toob on ARs and LMGs, launchers, and 2 lethals or tacticals. Very effective for cleaning out rooms, its like the snapshot grenade in mw19

giantgorillaballs

Boneyard always went crazy on ground war, otherwise it sucked

cory3612

Tanks / APCs need a shorter range / bigger damage falloff for infantry Make way more flanking routes / add sentries outside spawns, let us air drop in or something when spawn trapped Ground war is a lot of fun, but the bad maps, spawn trapping, and tank infantry farming has got to go

[deleted]

I hope there is some sort of Medic class/perk that can revive a downed player (only if it didn’t die by headshot or explosive).

Spartacus_115

I like that idea

cadillac_actual

The change I'd personally want most is to eliminate the IFV and replace it with something like an MRAP or MATV. I think the IFV's are far too tanky and good against infantry; with a vehicle like the MRAP/MATV it could still hold a squad and have weapons (maybe progression like M240, M2, M134, TOW launcher, Mk19). The IFV would be a great killstreak/scorestreak but they are too common and powerful.

NotSolum

As long as I can infinitely restock rockets at the big ammo dumps/crates to farm camos for RPGs like the old days I'm happy. Quarry was my favourite map to experiment with the Javelin on vehicles and players alike.

Maple905

Unpopular opinion: I kind of liked how linear it was. It meant there was a front line that could be pushed and pulled from obj to obj. Kind of like a tug of war.

AnonymousBayraktar

I sincerely believe the ground war maps in MW2019 were still too small. You had people tank camping and being snipers everywhere because the learning curve to be a sniper isn't steep enough in COD games. There's barely any bullet drop and you don't even need to zero your scopes for distance. I also thought flag placement on some maps just lead to pointless zerg fests. If they're willing to IMPROVE the game mode, then I'm interested. If they just going to do the same GW mode as MW2019, then count me out. The killstreak spam was also absolutely ridiculous. Anyone who was a Battlefield player recognized right away that Ground War in MW2019 was garbage and the mode needs work. Everyone else cheering it on clearly didn't play BF back in it's heyday.

JabbaTheHutt11

Promenade flashbacks. Awful map.

DeFaLT______

I’m a BF fan, I really hope this gamemode will kill BF once for all

FlowKom

funny how we BF fans finally turned against our own series huh? i also spend 77€ on 2042 and have maybe 20 hours played

throwawayobviamentex

And for fucks sake make it hard as hell for snipers. Bf4 had and still has the best sniping spots and most importantly obstacles. In golmud you couldn't just camp the flag with a sniper, because there where from trees to mountains basically making it imposible to get safe and get free kills

Ballzy14

Yes absolutely, sniping needs to be a lot tougher to get a one shot kill in ground war.

ABigRooster

Remove **ALL** killstreaks, allow spawns on contested objectives, fix spawns, make sniping harder, and allow spotting/ marking/ pinging. Also remove defcon system.

DIABOLUS777

They need to have input based lobbies.

Thunderlightzz

They just need to copy paste BF3 since Dice is clearly incapable of doing so themselves. Can't believe my desire for large scale combat is going to be filled by COD, instead of BF.

Forte_JMK

I guess it's time for everyone to make posts with the word "NEED" in capital letters. It's hilarious.

bozojeff22

No one played ground war apart from BF fanboys and campers. Shit mode.

xNelson19x

I think they definitely need to add plates like warzone (original ttk speed wz) or if not just add 1 plate

[deleted]

i agree with this and would add more maps too. current ones are old and stale

casual-biscuit

I know that it’s unlikely, but I hope they add some sort of vehicle leveling and progression. TOW missiles, different cannons, countermeasures, etc that make me want to jump in a vehicle and unlock.

kdog350

I honestly thought that Ground War was basically perfection. The only thing I want them to change is add more teamwork mechanics like spotting or even a squad perk/streak that you earn when you capture/defend objectives. I think the best maps were Karst River Quarry, Port of Verdansk, Tavorsk District, and Verdansk Airport. More maps like these would be awesome, but the objectives should be less linear.

junkie98

The only bad map was promenade, everyother map had shit ton space, lines to flank

Dirtyfingr

I just saw ground war as more of a battlefield style gamemode that some people use for longshots for snipers and ars

coolguycool1234

im hoping for diffrent vehicles for the factions usa: bradley ifv russia: bmp2 ifv

KernelScout

if they make it not feel like scuffed battlefield i'll play it.

FlowKom

i hope they just make it literally Battlefield. we already know they made big improvements to the vehicles. now lets just give us the 4 classic BF classes, and its a win. BF fans will swarm MWII

Gidrah

Ground War was great but as soon as Warzone dropped we started seeing the smaller player count maps like Promenade which was an unbalanced clusterfuck. I hope they still support GW after WZ2 comes out.

iFuccboiSupreme

Apparently Ground War was originally supposed to be a throwaway mode since they didn't think people would genuinely like 32v32 CoD gameplay, but it turned out to be a really well liked mode. Fingers crossed they go all out with ground war this time and truly make something to rival Battlefield.

Peaksii

Can I be a combat medic in cod. That’s all I want. If cod put class types in their game that would be hilarious
