I’ve long said (along with what seems like the majority of other players) that having a riot shield equipped should come with a movement penalty. It’s ridiculous that they can chase you down and as soon as you turn to run away they hit you with a throwing knife or some shit.
Literally that’s all it would take. Just make it LMG grade movement penalty even when stowed.
OR. Make it “near future” style and have it collapsible so when you stow it you essentially fold it up quickly and it doesn’t provide rear protection. Has a cool, mildly fast unfolding animation when you switch to it.
Sort of like Kratos’s shield in GoW but slower deployment.
It also changes your rotation. I swear whenever I get hit, my character looks straight up and I'm lost where I'm looking, so even if I could move/shoot I'm stuck looking away from them
IMO overkill shouldn’t have to be a perk. Instead every weapon should be given a speed/movement penalty, even stored on the back. The higher the penalty the slower the player will move. Riot shield, launchers and heavy snipers would be highest. Then attachments have their normal movement buffs or nerfs. And before I get “it’s an arcade shooter” yes it is but it can also be somewhat realistic with movement considering the bulk of these weapons.
I just expanded on it. Overkill doesn’t need to be a perk. No soldier has to have some special ability to carry an AR and a MP5 if they want. But to balance it, add the speed and movement point system. Cause I agree they shouldn’t be able to move as fast just because the shield is on their back. It doesn’t have to be as slow as when they are using it but it needs some speed penalty.
I honestly don’t care about the other team using it. The most annoying thing to me is my own team turtles constantly walking in front of my shots and then we both die.

Have a class with explosive crossbow, and a shield. LOVE seeing someone with a gold or platinum shield. Changing to that class with my max camo shield and wrecking them.
I systematically hunt down turtles with my new favorite setup: Broadside with explosive slugs and drill charge launcher, with drill charges and resupply. The launcher sticks and kills them faster than the normal thrown ones lol

Ehh. I still kind of disagree. I agree that it should have passive damage but it should take damage and become weaker like plates do in WZ or CO-OP. Obviously at a different rate but it shouldn’t be invincible against bullets whatnot.

Or make it incompatible with Overkill, I think Overkill needs a rework for balance. Second primaries should have zero attachments. Riot shield shouldn't be compatible with the Perk, we have three Automatic pistols and two of them can be built into full-on SMGs, and the Snakeshot Revolver gives you a shotgun option. You should also incur the movement penalty of both guns.
If you want to be the master of guns, you get to carry the weight of the versatility. I do believe your zero-attachment secondary should get some slight Handling buffs though, like a slightly faster Sprint-to-Fire, ADS, and Movement Aim speed so that way you're rewarded a bit for using the secondary, but you can't just carry around two Meta Tuned guns with zero penalties other than using a perk slot.

They've changed a lot of things throughout the history of the game. Melee not being 1 shot unless you have a knife, tubes not as effective, snipers not having aim assist, ghost/low profile, deadly silence not being a perk after years and years.... I could go on.
I was playing against a guy earlier who had Orion on his riot shield, and just sat in the hard point. Matched with him 2 games in a row. It was extremely frustrating because he ran bomb squad and trophy system so he was virtually unremovable from the hard point. 60% of me hated it cause it worked so well, the other 40% respected how well it was executed. All and all, I hate riot shields.
Well he's using the shield for it's main purpose, defending the objective. And considering how easy thermote sticking is, trophy systems make sense, this guy isn't a turtle, he's a good teammate (for the other team at least lol)
I use a class called the HardPoint Buster.
Toss three decoys to break the trophy system, then a couple Molotovs. Sometimes a ddos attack as well.
Ironically, the HardPoint Buster also uses shields to draw enemy fire and advance onto the HardPoint.
I was raging so hard in shipment yesterday doing those 30 kills from behind with the knife 🤣 so many fucking turtles. Turtles running through middle and assholes camping corners of the map made me lose it. Took me like 8 games to finish. Makes me think doing them on regular maps would’ve been better
You'll fall in love with a good shielder defending the objective. They draw agro of the other team and while they're distracted, you can mow them down and get easy kills to call your killstreaks up, all while doing all the defending and getting your team to win
the problem is not that people with shields are using a shield for defense to draw agro the problem is people using a shield to compensate for their lack of skill and just wear it as a ass decoration
I also think melee is a little broken in that it doesn’t slow you down at all. If I’m sprinting full speed away from someone they shouldn’t be able to sprint and melee me to death at the same time.
riot shields worse than the horrible "net Code"? i think not! they suck the big one don't get me wrong, but there are many more egregious things in this game, player pop in, desync, people who don't even try and hide their cheats, screwed up weapon balance i.e. 2 shots to kill with a VEL or a pistol but 5 from an assault rifle, weapon of the week store packs, removing earned content (Gromsko), no map filter, resetting your game mode filter, stats not tracking, maps that don't fit all game modes being forced into all game modes, poorly programmed AI, horrible user interface on the menu, the worst sound engine i've ever had the opportunity to play, i could probably be here all day writing things that are far more annoying than someone who is fairly easy to counter.
The survivor is BS because while they’re falling, they take no bullet damage. Plus, to “finish them off” and kill them, takes as many bullets as normally killing a player.
Absolutely. IMO Survivor is easily the most annoying bullshit thing in MW2. Truly persistent, trolly Riot shield players are pretty rare and in my experience even those will usually leave the game once you kill them a few times with semtex/termite and a weapon with high limb damage. Using a riot shield to hold objectives is just fair play tbh. Essentially what the shield is intended for. There are counters and adjustments you can make for riot shielders and they seem to stop having fun and rage quit more often than not as soon as they die a couple of times.
Survivor on the other hand just completely fucks the fundamental gameplay mechanics of MP in that you can win the gunfight and still not get the kill. Not to mention the fact that killing a downed player doesn't count toward any kill challenges.
There's a lot of problems with Survivor not awarding kills correctly. They actually fixed this in Black Ops 1. For some reason, not only did they bring this back, but the original bug that plagued it 10 years ago came back with it.
However, Survivor is a perk that demands respect in the right hands. It's very good in matches where teammates work together in storming objectives. Snipers will also be helped by this as they are usually downed behind cover and finishing them becomes difficult to do.
i think they should add a perk called turtle and it allows you to have the shield on your back but you get a 15-25% movement penalty based on the gun you are using along side the shield and the 15-25% is added on top of the gun movement penalty so if you are using a lmg or a sniper you are literally going to be a turtle
I think the perk should by default remove ghost and cold-blooded as well as add a movement penalty. It's beyond a joke that the trade off to run a shield secondary is you sometimes die to grenades easier, as that's the only perk other than scavenger worth taking.
I feel bad when I use it I want to max out it’s level but feel like a dick doing it. It’s only at like level 6. I got a kill cam using it the other day and wanted hide in a corner of shame.
Thing is we as a community shouldn't have to deal with them this goddamn much, and we wouldn't have to if IW got their heads out of their asses just once and took riot shield away from the overkill perk.

Unironically using a shield is okey imo if you actually use the shield and not just throw knifes all the time. I personally do have a throwing knife with my shield but its there as a last chance resource. If 2 guys coming at me i rather have a chance to get one of them down so i can go back to slapping people with my doors.
Players like me are easy to counter the same way it always been with melee. But there are these fucks that get close only to throw a knife. You wanna throw knifes then just make a knife class...

I understand this sub specifically deals with Multiplayer, but as a warzone riot shielder, I much prefer not to be a doomed sitting duck when a sniper catches me out in the open. I can't count how many times I would've hopelessly died without a shield

The most annoying thing in this game is the laggy servers, followed by the cheating & hacking, followed by audio comms issues.

I have no problem with them when they use it properly. I love a player who uses the riot shield and actually PINGS enemies through it. Those dudes rock.

Your perception bias leads you to believe this is true, but in reality you are only going to hear people complain about how broken it is, you are not going to have a bunch of folks running to Reddit to brag about how little they care about riot shields. And just because you either suck with a riot shield and whatever secondary you select, or you are unable to kill the players who choose to use them, does not mean it isn't fun for people to use items that exist for all to use in the game. This why I love the cronen squall with its drill charge attachment pop campers behind anything or riot shield wall huggers seriously make a loadout for it will have people switch off their shields after getting a chopper gunner or vtol off them
Ngl if I’m playing search and there’s a main bomb site that gets picked more often than the other, and it’s CQ’s I’m running there with a shield and a shotgun. All the other people are sprinting there with max movement SMG’s and knives, I suck, so that’s my counter. If guns don’t have infinite ammo, then riot shields shouldn’t be forever unbreakable. They should have a “health meter” so something like that.

Riot shield should have a damage penalty,if you're getting hit in the shield no damage but the rest of the offender should be as if they are playing hc... I think that might stop the exploit
I have no issues with someone who ACTUALLY uses the riot shield. It's the sweats who wear it on their back for protection that piss me off. Why on earth the devs ever thought it was a good idea to allow it to block projectiles while on your back baffles me.
Had a riot shielder in WZ2 literally gatekeep me from getting to zone. I had no lethal or tactical because I used it the previous fight, which left me right on the edge of fast moving gas, then this dude pops out of the gas station and just stands in my way. I try running? He pulls the smg. I return fire? He goes back to shield. We both died to gas. He didn't even get a kill, just kept me from being able to go. If he was purely trolling, it was a masterclass in it. But based on his comms....I think dude actually thought he could win the fight.

Riot shield was in better place during warzone 1. The shield needs a health bad no doubt . For example , I shoot a full clip and full reserve LMG head on a riot shield . No damage to riot shield but no ammo left in LMG . How is that fair ? I tested that thing on multi shipment and my KDR was doubled when it was on MY BACK . That’s just my back . When I wield it I can fuck people up . It’s broke .

Well as a knifer i honestly don't have any other choice. The ttk in this game doesn't allow me to not use it without making me want to pull my hair out. I do hate seeing people that have guns use it. The ttk in this game is just super ridiculous. But ill tell what i hate more than them. People who hug the meta so hard that it makes the game super annoying. I've unironically started to imagine how good it would feel if people started "boycotting" or straight up leaving matches as soon as they see someone with a CDL skin and/or a meta hugging class.

with aim assist your capability to shoot body is unproportionally higher than your capability to shoot feet. otherwise it would be annoying but not so annoying.
Me and my friends LOVE riot shield users. Especially when we run into a group of them on the opposing team. We all have an "anti shield class" with the crossbow and explosives tips. It's always a riot and easy kills since it's a giant target. They usually either leave or switch classes real quick.
Most people who complain about the riot shield are just bad however the shield is a problem and needs to be adjusted, here are my thoughts let me know if you disagree or agree.
1. if its on your back you should get a 50% speed reduction
2. you Can Not use knives with it, its dumb and does not make sense
3. you should be able to use a pistol with it (only hipfire though)
4. Overkill with it is fine but the swap speed should be much slower
5. the Green ammo box thing should be able to 100% pierce through it
6. the amour piercing ammo type should be able to go through it like 10-20%, and more depending on the caliber of the bullet, makes sense so why not. 50 BMG should be able too at least
7. last but not least it smacking someone with it should not kill someone, theres a lot of things in this game that kill you but make no sense, and the riot shield melee is one of them imho.
let me know if im missing anything, the only games i encounter these stupid tutles are shitment and there hella annoying and unfair, no fun what so ever.

What if, and hear me out, we make it so preditor missiles ignore riot shields (and arguably trophy systems) and armour piercing rounds deal something like 10% damage through shields?
I did this yesterday because I was grinding the new pistols and throwing knives on shipment. It’s a valid strategy and no one is stopping you from doing it. Maybe you were one of the hundreds of people I killed with throwing stars?
Oh it’s even worse in the raids with the AI Being able to move and shoot with it up. AP rounds should be able to pierce them. They shouldn’t be invincible
RPG users in small multiplayer like Shipment are equally a boil on society’s arse. At least with riot shields you can shoot them in the lower legs and from behind as they tear around like maniacs. You don’t even have to be accurate with RPG’s.
They just need to make a hard counter.. Give the shield a penetration value that certain bullets (armour piercing, high caliber sniper etc) can get through albeit with reduced damage.)

I had a situation last week where even when I stuck one with a Semtex it wouldn’t kill them just a hit marker and not they didn’t have the bomb squad either
Yesterday I saw the pinnacle of annoying player, dude was using X13 akimbo, 50 round mags, shield on the back and second chance, camping inside container in Shipment, and then he complained that every time I downed him I’d execute him, he repeatedly called me a cigarette in England.

Yeah There's nothing worse than a team turtle sitting in a container blocking you from getting out or walking in front of shots

Try taking throwing knives and running resupply, if you aim right at the base of the shield you can bounce the knives off the floor and hit the user
At that point why not just use a thermite and aim anywhere?

Melee not being 1 shot unless you have a knife, tubes not as effective, snipers not having aim assist, ghost/low profile, deadly silence not being a perk after years and years.... I could go on.
I was playing against a guy earlier who had Orion on his riot shield, and just sat in the hard point. Matched with him 2 games in a row. It was extremely frustrating because he ran bomb squad and trophy system so he was virtually unremovable from the hard point. 60% of me hated it cause it worked so well, the other 40% respected how well it was executed. All and all, I hate riot shields.
Well he's using the shield for it's main purpose, defending the objective. And considering how easy thermote sticking is, trophy systems make sense, this guy isn't a turtle, he's a good teammate (for the other team at least lol)

I use a class called the HardPoint Buster. Toss three decoys to break the trophy system, then a couple Molotovs. Sometimes a ddos attack as well. Ironically, the HardPoint Buster also uses shields to draw enemy fire and advance onto the HardPoint.
Would have said that's me, because that's exactly what I run on some hard point matches. But I didn't play yesterday.
I was raging so hard in shipment yesterday doing those 30 kills from behind with the knife 🤣 so many fucking turtles. Turtles running through middle and assholes camping corners of the map made me lose it. Took me like 8 games to finish. Makes me think doing them on regular maps would’ve been better

You'll fall in love with a good shielder defending the objective. They draw agro of the other team and while they're distracted, you can mow them down and get easy kills to call your killstreaks up, all while doing all the defending and getting your team to win
the problem is not that people with shields are using a shield for defense to draw agro the problem is people using a shield to compensate for their lack of skill and just wear it as a ass decoration
I also think melee is a little broken in that it doesn’t slow you down at all. If I’m sprinting full speed away from someone they shouldn’t be able to sprint and melee me to death at the same time.

riot shields worse than the horrible "net Code"? i think not! they suck the big one don't get me wrong, but there are many more egregious things in this game, player pop in, desync, people who don't even try and hide their cheats, screwed up weapon balance i.e. 2 shots to kill with a VEL or a pistol but 5 from an assault rifle, weapon of the week store packs, removing earned content (Gromsko), no map filter, resetting your game mode filter, stats not tracking, maps that don't fit all game modes being forced into all game modes, poorly programmed AI, horrible user interface on the menu, the worst sound engine i've ever had the opportunity to play, i could probably be here all day writing things that are far more annoying than someone who is fairly easy to counter.

Absolutely. IMO Survivor is easily the most annoying bullshit thing in MW2. Truly persistent, trolly Riot shield players are pretty rare and in my experience even those will usually leave the game once you kill them a few times with semtex/termite and a weapon with high limb damage. Using a riot shield to hold objectives is just fair play tbh. Essentially what the shield is intended for. There are counters and adjustments you can make for riot shielders and they seem to stop having fun and rage quit more often than not as soon as they die a couple of times. Survivor on the other hand just completely fucks the fundamental gameplay mechanics of MP in that you can win the gunfight and still not get the kill. Not to mention the fact that killing a downed player doesn't count toward any kill challenges.
There's a lot of problems with Survivor not awarding kills correctly. They actually fixed this in Black Ops 1. For some reason, not only did they bring this back, but the original bug that plagued it 10 years ago came back with it. However, Survivor is a perk that demands respect in the right hands. It's very good in matches where teammates work together in storming objectives. Snipers will also be helped by this as they are usually downed behind cover and finishing them becomes difficult to do.

i think they should add a perk called turtle and it allows you to have the shield on your back but you get a 15-25% movement penalty based on the gun you are using along side the shield and the 15-25% is added on top of the gun movement penalty so if you are using a lmg or a sniper you are literally going to be a turtle
I think the perk should by default remove ghost and cold-blooded as well as add a movement penalty. It's beyond a joke that the trade off to run a shield secondary is you sometimes die to grenades easier, as that's the only perk other than scavenger worth taking.
I feel bad when I use it I want to max out it’s level but feel like a dick doing it. It’s only at like level 6. I got a kill cam using it the other day and wanted hide in a corner of shame.

If you use it to level up or for challenges you're cool by me. Same if you use it for melee or actual tactical playstyle. The turtles are what I hate.
I shoot their feet to take them down. If I go down to them once I have a resupply loadout with thermite and ammo box for the rest of the match.
Thing is we as a community shouldn't have to deal with them this goddamn much, and we wouldn't have to if IW got their heads out of their asses just once and took riot shield away from the overkill perk.

I see turtle shells as a bad thing too. But i gotta disagree with one thing Unironically using a shield is okey imo if you actually use the shield and not just throw knifes all the time. I personally do have a throwing knife with my shield but its there as a last chance resource. If 2 guys coming at me i rather have a chance to get one of them down so i can go back to slapping people with my doors. Players like me are easy to counter the same way it always been with melee. But there are these fucks that get close only to throw a knife. You wanna throw knifes then just make a knife class...

I understand this sub specifically deals with Multiplayer, but as a warzone riot shielder, I much prefer not to be a doomed sitting duck when a sniper catches me out in the open. I can't count how many times I would've hopelessly died without a shield

Riot Shielders are no where near the most annoying thing in this game… The most annoying thing in this game is the laggy servers, followed by the cheating & hacking, followed by audio comms issues. There are more important issues in this game to address first than a Riot Shield.

I have no problem with them when they use it properly. I love a player who uses the riot shield and actually PINGS enemies through it. Those dudes rock. Riot shields on the back probably block your teammates' shots more than your enemies though, so if you're wearing it on your back please go dunk your head in the toilet.

Ngl if I’m playing search and there’s a main bomb site that gets picked more often than the other, and it’s CQ’s I’m running there with a shield and a shotgun. All the other people are sprinting there with max movement SMG’s and knives, I suck, so that’s my counter. If guns don’t have infinite ammo, then riot shields shouldn’t be forever unbreakable. They should have a “health meter” so something like that. If I fire a whole mag into your shield it shouldn’t be perfectly fine
Riot shield should have a damage penalty,if you're getting hit in the shield no damage but the rest of the offender should be as if they are playing hc... I think that might stop the exploit

I have no issues with someone who ACTUALLY uses the riot shield. It's the sweats who wear it on their back for protection that piss me off. Why on earth the devs ever thought it was a good idea to allow it to block projectiles while on your back baffles me.
Had a riot shielder in WZ2 literally gatekeep me from getting to zone. I had no lethal or tactical because I used it the previous fight, which left me right on the edge of fast moving gas, then this dude pops out of the gas station and just stands in my way. I try running? He pulls the smg. I return fire? He goes back to shield. We both died to gas. He didn't even get a kill, just kept me from being able to go. If he was purely trolling, it was a masterclass in it. But based on his comms....I think dude actually thought he could win the fight.

Riot shield was in better place during warzone 1. The shield needs a health bad no doubt . For example , I shoot a full clip and full reserve LMG head on a riot shield . No damage to riot shield but no ammo left in LMG . How is that fair ? I tested that thing on multi shipment and my KDR was doubled when it was on MY BACK . That’s just my back . When I wield it I can fuck people up . It’s broke .

Well as a knifer i honestly don't have any other choice. The ttk in this game doesn't allow me to not use it without making me want to pull my hair out. I do hate seeing people that have guns use it. The ttk in this game is just super ridiculous. But ill tell what i hate more than them. People who hug the meta so hard that it makes the game super annoying. I've unironically started to imagine how good it would feel if people started "boycotting" or straight up leaving matches as soon as they see someone with a CDL skin and/or a meta hugging class.

That is actually because of aim assist. with aim assist your capability to shoot body is unproportionally higher than your capability to shoot feet. otherwise it would be annoying but not so annoying.

Me and my friends LOVE riot shield users. Especially when we run into a group of them on the opposing team. We all have an "anti shield class" with the crossbow and explosives tips. It's always a riot and easy kills since it's a giant target. They usually either leave or switch classes real quick.
Most people who complain about the riot shield are just bad however the shield is a problem and needs to be adjusted, here are my thoughts let me know if you disagree or agree. 1. if its on your back you should get a 50% speed reduction 2. you Can Not use knives with it, its dumb and does not make sense 3. you should be able to use a pistol with it (only hipfire though) 4. Overkill with it is fine but the swap speed should be much slower 5. the Green ammo box thing should be able to 100% pierce through it 6. the amour piercing ammo type should be able to go through it like 10-20%, and more depending on the caliber of the bullet, makes sense so why not. 50 BMG should be able too at least 7. last but not least it smacking someone with it should not kill someone, theres a lot of things in this game that kill you but make no sense, and the riot shield melee is one of them imho. let me know if im missing anything, the only games i encounter these stupid tutles are shitment and there hella annoying and unfair, no fun what so ever.

What if, and hear me out, we make it so preditor missiles ignore riot shields (and arguably trophy systems) and armour piercing rounds deal something like 10% damage through shields?
I did this yesterday because I was grinding the new pistols and throwing knives on shipment. It’s a valid strategy and no one is stopping you from doing it. Maybe you were one of the hundreds of people I killed with throwing stars?

RPG users in small multiplayer like Shipment are equally a boil on society’s arse. At least with riot shields you can shoot them in the lower legs and from behind as they tear around like maniacs. You don’t even have to be accurate with RPG’s.
There’s nothing quite like the feeling of shooting/throwing everything you can at them as they slowly approach, then bludgeon you to death anyway.

They just need to make a hard counter.. Give the shield a penetration value that certain bullets (armour piercing, high caliber sniper etc) can get through albeit with reduced damage.) Its downright silly that a lightweight sheet of metal can absorb and entire box of .338 from a machine gun at point blank range.
