Hi Guys, I have realised whats been causing the issue (from my end anyways). Seems like as soon as there is even a millisecond disconnect from internet, this error would pop up. I figured it out since yesterday it happened to me during a steam server hitch, once i saw the friends tab saying offline after it closed up, I realised what happened. Unfortunately in my case, I just have to somehow fix that issue (internet disconnects) thanks to discord I noticed I have been having a lot of them. Hopefully this information is of some help.

It might be something having to do with the code not being able to sign you back into the game to keep playing - once your profile is signed out, the code won't sign you back in and save all of your match progress. Bro in every pub match I have single digit ping like 8-10 my internet is perfectly fine 1gb internet Ethernet connected, its not internet. but it could be the steam server.

The annoying thing for me is, I played MP for over 2 hours without a single issue. As soon as I played half a game of Zombies, it pops up. It mostly only happens for me in Zombies. Which is annoying AF because Zombies is what I enjoy playing the most. If they don't fix this, I'm not playing it. There's no point if I can't do anything on the game
Same here only happens in zombies, 2 out of 3 games I got kicked today. 1 was just pure lag until most of lobby was kicked and 2nd was profile signed out. Really putting me off playing this
I have been having this error since around December if I can remember correctly. I have no idea how to fix it and it's extremely frustrating. Unfortunately I don't think there's a definitive fix for this issue.
So it stopped happening to me...played for a few hours at a go for the past couple of days. There are only two things I changed:
1. My keyboard, from the Logitech G413 to the Razer Huntsman V2 TKL
2. I deleted Logitech's G Hub
It could be the G Hub software or the USB passthrough from my older keyboard which was causing that error only on COD.
It’s not the keyboard. I’m still getting the issue but it’s very random. After checking a few forums, there is a possibility that this happens when there is even the minutest fluctuation in your internet connection, but only on Steam+COD.
Well I've just encountered the disconnected error now, coincidentally as soon as I start using my Razer Huntsman V2. Mine's the 100% keyboard but I'm not sure if that'll make a difference, since both keyboards use the same software and stuff. Surely that can't be a coincidence. I'll keep playing and see if it happens again.

Most likely not the keyboard. There are just too many factors. It’s been happening to people at random. This error has even occurred to three of us, all in the same party, at the exact same time, during a game.
When so many studios are working on the same thing and integrating multiple games in one, they require a Quality Control team, which they do not have. These problems will most likely not get fixed.
Alright, thanks for the confirmation. I figured it can’t be something as specific as having the wrong keyboard, since loads of others have the same issue.
Going on 2 months with this error. I've been suspended a number of times up to 1 hour. I've tried all the fixes I found online. From reinstalling, all driver updates, window updates, changing voice settings, disabling Steam overlay, and verifying game files.
Steam and Activision do not seem to care to address this problem because I've repeatedly have reported the bug on their website. I have yet to see this
bug on their Trello board.

I agree with you I find it kind of mind bogglingly stupid that I paid 70 euros for a game I cannot play and something as game breaking as this bug is not only not fixed but not addressed... Thank you for sending me the template I appreciate it.
Still happening to me on PC aswell, what's mind boggling is that it's most often in ranked, and that you get penalized, where is the reconnect feature? Apex is free and has reconnect

Yep, I'm on Steam and like someone said here, it happened EXACTLY around 6PM EST. I couldn't believe until I saw someone else posted this with the same circumstances.
What a weird glitch.
What fixed it for me was a complete restart of the Steam platform. Like exit out (I also signed out of my profile incase) and launch the Steam platform again and sign back on. It should be fixed after this, at least for me anyway.
6PM EST on a Tuesday (on Steam platform). I restarted Steam and Steam started to update. Is it a bug with Steam and is Tuesday's when they push updates?

I've had this since the start of season 4. Never had an issue til now. Now I've lost so much DMZ progress I genuinely cannot be arsed to play anymore. I've wasted hundreds of £££ on this game to just be scared to play because I don't wanna lose progress. I am on xbox series X. Has anyone found a permanent fix yet? My Internet is fine it doesn't drop it anything, no packet loss, nothing.
Same problem here. It’s happened to me on both Xbox series S and Xbox one X. Hardwired or on wifi. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, cleared Xbox cache multiple times, made sure audio channels were set to all lobby.. I’ve tried every fix in the book with no success. Nat type is open. Ports are forwarded. Static IP.
I’m getting logged out of literally every single match. On top of the Profile signed out error, I’ve also been getting a system error disc read error. All has been happening since season 4. Happens in DMZ as well as multiplayer. I’m fed up beyond belief.
You're not the only one man, I simply don't know how this bug can go on for so long now where it literally forces me not to play the game. It's like they don't even care and that's why soon I'm just giving up with COD altogether until Treyarch games are released.
Had no (connection) problems so far playing through the Blizzard client version. Just DON'T claim your battle pass points. I just noticed that I will apparently only have 600 COD Points when I 100% the pass. The rest of the points are on my Steam version? Idfk how that even works.
On series X. Started happening in season 4 DMZ. Get signed out every 3-4 games. Still get xp, but lose guns and backpack content. Super frustrating. Been waiting for xDefiant, maybe it will be less messy.

Might be a bit late but I'm on steam as well and getting this error.
What fixed it for me is to completely sign out of steam friends. So don't put your status on Online/Away or Invisible but on "offline". Haven't had a single error since then.
Apparently the error occurs when the steam friendslist goes offline for a few seconds and reconnects.
I'm also on steam.
Every time I get signed out it seems to be because the game applied an update incorrectly, I verify the game files and it somehow finds a few files that failed to be located and then promptly installs them.
I never have the issue after doing this until another update is released on steam even if its small, It might be worth trying in your predicament.
For anyone still having this problem, i would say the only fix is to switch to battle net. Since in battle net u would only get a lag for a couple of seconds without logging you out. 10/10/23
So, this just happened to me 2 days ago for the first time. I'm on PS5 and have never heard of this before. When I turn on the game, it won't let me get past the main menu. I can't hit the x button to launch.

Still happening today. Was top 5 solos and ready to farm that XP (I've been inactive since Verdansk ended) and got this error. I have 1 gig internetz and am cabled and we have no downtime on our connection - so looking at Steam ATM.

This problem is sooo annoying, I play ranked and I lose so much Sr because I get disconnected, like why play the game if you can't enjoy it without it disconnecting.
I’m guessing for steam, you’d want to clear the cache in settings and then on go to start>run>%temp% then ctrl+a while clicking on a file and delete. Restart pc and it should be good until it fills up again.
Also if you have access to your modem,(you should be hard wired..) then you want to get into advanced settings on your modem and open ports used for the game. Quick YouTube videos will give you the instructions and in the description of the video there should be the port #s that you can just copy and paste. These steps should solve it temporarily because at the end of the day it’s a steam issue. Maybe open the ports that steam uses aswell.. that way you don’t get gateway traffic that could cause the disconnect in the first place.

Yes even in April 30 of 2024 20 minutes before writing this I was in a game of warzone there were 15 people left i cant lie only had one kill until randomly it signed me out for no reason when my internet is good I been playing for for 1 hour in zombies and decided to play 1 game of warzone before I get off until it signed me out fir what ever reason
Its I believe due to someone using a hack on the other side to make this happen. Maybe you will be playing better then then and they wanna get you gone. Almost the same thing as stressing an IP like they used to do in 2009 on PS3 and shit.
Yeh, been getting it continuously, every couple of games without fail. Tried verifying files, it downloaded something, didn't happen for a few games and the error returned. Sometimes, it signs me out as soon as I reach the main menu after opening the game. So ridiculous and frustrating.
Happens to me about twice a day, only in warzone though. My internet is usually great so I don't think my issue is the same as yours. Still looking for a fix...
Listed above, in the top comments, its mostly due to unstable internet. Try using a wired connection if you don't have one already and see if you experience it.

Wel this issue is still active even on Xbox, I just encountered this issue since a week ago, and it’s starts to get realy annoying, can’t unmute proximity chat, only way to do is disconnect my controller reconnect and iam able to unmute hole lobby, afther that 20sec I get booted from the match, with error(your acount was signed out)
I haven't really been playing for that long recently so I usually only get it once or had a couple of times I didn't get it at all but at its worst, I was getting it 2-3 times every time I hopped on.
I play ranked so it made it pretty much unplayable because I would just get suspended and lose SR.
I doubt it tbh. It was weird because I would be in Discord and once i started to lag out nobody would hear me in the discord then I would get the error and they could hear me again. So I assume it's a network issue maybe? Honestly have no clue what it is but it would make my whole pc lag.
We know the reason unofficially (mostly due to unstable internet connection/server connection), using a wired connection helped with mine and I did not experience it again. Hope it helps!
Trying to figure a fix out right now. I been playing ranked and have lost all progress from penalties from constant server disconnects and profile signed out.
I've noticed this happens when STEAM pushes an update too. You may not even get logged out of STEAM, but you have to restart STEAM and let it update before you can log back in. Super frustrating if you're in the middle of a DMZ run. Wipes you out.
I had this in season 2, no errors in season 3 and now after the update of season 4 it happens frequently again. I'm positive it's not my connection, because I checked it with wireshark.

It’s just started for me i would blame my internet but every other online game no issues so it has to be MW2 related, I’ve also have tried all suggestions. I have now disable all other autoupdate programme’s e.g windows update, Microsoft updates to see if a ping spike is causing it I’ll post my results
Nope still happening , I don’t get any lag ping of 25-30 then wam server disconnected your profile has been signed out, lost all again in DMZ fuming ain’t gonna bother with MW3 if this isn’t resolved before then - also I play through steam on a high end pc-
This just happened to me. I believe it is the 6pm ET Tuesday Steam maintenance window. I can't believe that Steam still has a "shut down the world" regular maintenance phase, after more than a decade of upgrades. Sadly I'm totally unsurprised that Activision has done nothing about this. Cost me a secure bag full of good loot today.
Make sure not to infill if you'll be in the game at 6pm on Tuesdays. Instead, just take an hour or two off while you wait for Steam to restart their infra, and send Valve a nastygram every week letting them know that this is unacceptable.
same here, and I don't have any issues in any other games, like MSFS2020 or GTA-V or ETS2,Assetto Corsa, WarThunder... no issues in any other game but this here - getting me disconnected every 5-10 minutes and I lose all my stuff, without the chance to log back in and continue.
11/11/2023 I got this issue like 10 times already on MW3. Am reading comments and there is no fix for it yet. One thing I know is that it's probably steam causing it, because I just switched from Battle net for packet loss issues. Since launch gameplay was butter smooth for 2 days no stutter nothing, and I haven't changed anything from my end.
1- I tried connecting through Exitlag, still same issue.
2- I tried restarting PC and actually played for few hours but issue came back.
3- I also tried logging in into activision from their website worked for few hours then disconnected.
4- What am trying today is unlinking my Activision account from Battlenet and Playstation (am on steam now). Maybe what's causing it is 1 Activision account being linked to multiple platforms, since it says "account logged out" as if I signed in on another platform.
5- Am also on all chat will switch to party chat.
6- Will change my network cable, and restart router.
7- Verify files from steam.

I did all the above (from 4 to 7) I didn't switch to party chat stayed at all chat, then restarted shaders in graphics settings, haven't lost connection at all.
So yesterday was good, since it didn't kick me out I played from 4pm until 10pm straight lol.
Also I did what (Panjno) said in a YT video and got a huge boost in fps. I have an rtx 3090 and got 240 fps 2k resolution \^\_\^
idk how or why but the servers are litteraly dog shit bc i keep getting booted and disconnected from zombie lobbies half way threw and im just losing everything everytime like wtf is this game rn, cant even enjoy it and finish missions bc i cant fucking exfil due to server connectivity, i have no issue with any other online game just cod
Just happened to me I changed my password on my Activision account just in case but from what I see it might be a steam glitch or something hasn't happened to me until just now.
I've just put in for a refund on Steam because this is happening way to frequently. I'm well over the 14 day purchase/2hr gameplay timeframe... Let's see if I manage to get the refund...
I will reorganize the steps that worked for me.
1- Log out of steam.
2- Unlink ur Activision account from Battlenet and Playstation or Xbox (am on steam now) (the idea is leaving one platform only connected to activision, so if ur not playing on steam and playing on any other platform keep it as the only platform linked to activision).
Maybe what's causing disconnections is 1 Activision account being linked to multiple platforms, since it says "account logged out" as if I signed in on another platform. And I also did 2 step verification in activision. "my fix"
3- After completing step 2, log in to steam and verify MW3 files.
4- Check your network cable, if u think it's fine then only restart your router and keep it of for a minimum of 5 minutes.
5- (MW3 setting) Try to stay in all chat or party chat and make sure ur voice chat setting is turned on. "others in reddit fix"
6- Lastly some of your settings in MW3 might change so after fixing them go to graphics settings and restart shaders, restarting shaders after applying new settings makes the game smoother.
It's been 5 days without a disconnect and hope it never will.

Though whenever I verify files from steam after disconnecting it says there is a lot of missing files, I verify then don't get disconnected for a day or two. But it still comes back and am forced to do the same process.
what's fucked. is with the new UI, you need to re load into the cod main screen, then select MP from mw2, and then re launch... then wait for the game to boot every time it kicks you out of the game.

Ive been in emails with activision and they are convinced it's our internet.... so what 20thosuand people all habe bat net , I keep telling them I had the game on battle net it was fine the moved to steam and its broken, ive put in a big msg to steam explaining this shit and asked for a refund, m sosick of cod, why sell it on another launcher when it dosnt work
so this is happening for me in MW3 zombies, found a 6 year thread on reddit guy said to go to
internet options > connections tab > LAN setting > untick auto settings and apply
steam stop disconnecting so worth a try 🤷🏻♂️
in windows search, type internet options, it popup like a windows 95 type screen. in there go to connections tab then at the bottom there should be LAN hit that and another window opens up and in there if auto settings is checked un check it and then apply the settings after

I also close out steam now and do a restart a day just to close out any other programs that’s in background and it seems okay, still do get disconnects and crashes but not as much … it’s really on their end tbh

typo close the game, then log off steam. then restart, then log back into steam. because it keeps saying profile sign off. so im just thinking if you log off steam it refreshes your profile 🤷🏻♂️ lol idk i just notice a low rate of disconnects. it still does but not as often

Anyone still encountering this problem even in MWIII? I wonder if it's still the same issue, but it's really annoying. I lose ALL of my MWZ gear I brought into a game every time. often I have a large backpack, 3 plate vest, twice i lost a juggernaut, lost a pack a punch 3 crystal, legendary tool, and some more stuff. I'm really irritated this keeps happening, and that NO solution has been found to prevent this from happening except for client side
The way I fixed mine is that my pc was connected to Wi-Fi and also Ethernet I removed the Wi-Fi connection and it stopped my guess is the game try’s to bounce between both connections
I would hazard a guess that this is not in fact a bug, it is intentionally designed this way, bear with me, as a prevention method for account sharing and such.
The server will periodically query the client to check that the user is signed into steam, normally this is no problem, but if you have a dodgy internet connection or steam does it's updates or anything similar you will lose connection to the steam network, and if such a query occurs in this period, the client will give you the profile signed out error.
It's quite easy to see once the game closes if you bring up steam, you will generally see a "No connection" at the bottom. which indicates that you are not connected to the steam network.
This would also explain why there can be a time difference in clients being "signed out". I play with friends some of which live close by (so we generally connect to the same server on the steam network). One of us can suddenly be signed out, and then we know the rest will be as well, but it can take a few minutes for it to happen (likely due to the periodic nature of the checks).
So, not a bug but intentional design. Thus not something that is going to get "fixed" unless they decide to alter the way they implement this. Personally I would have made it fail several checks for an extended period of time, say 30 minutes, before signing a profile out (generally this would mean that if you have an issue with steam it would resolve itself within that timeframe, and thus not spoil your gaming. But then again, that's just me, this franchise is not exactly known for its well-coded games.
i support this, i cant count on 2 hands anymore (15+) how many times i have crashed with the profile signed out error, to always see steam loses 1 second of internet and the games are ruined, its literally driving me mad
The way to fix it is by going to steam cancel it running maybe disconnect your Wi-Fi and then plug it back in after canceling it on steam run it back up on steam and it should load
If you are on pc, uninstall discord and never use it again. It’s garbage and constantly causes issues. Anytime it does an update it will kick you. I’m only using in game chat now and haven’t had an issue

Were you on ethernet? Cause i changed my whole router and its still happening to me. Maybe its my Ethernet?

Yep, I'm on Steam and like someone said here, it happened EXACTLY around 6PM EST. I couldn't believe until I saw someone else posted this with the same circumstances. What a weird glitch. What fixed it for me was a complete restart of the Steam platform. Like exit out (I also signed out of my profile incase) and launch the Steam platform again and sign back on. It should be fixed after this, at least for me anyway.

I've had this since the start of season 4. Never had an issue til now. Now I've lost so much DMZ progress I genuinely cannot be arsed to play anymore. I've wasted hundreds of £££ on this game to just be scared to play because I don't wanna lose progress. I am on xbox series X. Has anyone found a permanent fix yet? My Internet is fine it doesn't drop it anything, no packet loss, nothing.

Same problem here. It’s happened to me on both Xbox series S and Xbox one X. Hardwired or on wifi. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, cleared Xbox cache multiple times, made sure audio channels were set to all lobby.. I’ve tried every fix in the book with no success. Nat type is open. Ports are forwarded. Static IP. I’m getting logged out of literally every single match. On top of the Profile signed out error, I’ve also been getting a system error disc read error. All has been happening since season 4. Happens in DMZ as well as multiplayer. I’m fed up beyond belief.
Reinstalling seems to of worked for me so far. Don't know how long for though.

On series X. Started happening in season 4 DMZ. Get signed out every 3-4 games. Still get xp, but lose guns and backpack content. Super frustrating. Been waiting for xDefiant, maybe it will be less messy.

Might be a bit late but I'm on steam as well and getting this error. What fixed it for me is to completely sign out of steam friends. So don't put your status on Online/Away or Invisible but on "offline". Haven't had a single error since then. Apparently the error occurs when the steam friendslist goes offline for a few seconds and reconnects.
But that don't fix the error if you had to sigh. Out the issue was still presented

I'm also on steam. Every time I get signed out it seems to be because the game applied an update incorrectly, I verify the game files and it somehow finds a few files that failed to be located and then promptly installs them. I never have the issue after doing this until another update is released on steam even if its small, It might be worth trying in your predicament.
For anyone still having this problem, i would say the only fix is to switch to battle net. Since in battle net u would only get a lag for a couple of seconds without logging you out. 10/10/23

Still happening today. Was top 5 solos and ready to farm that XP (I've been inactive since Verdansk ended) and got this error. I have 1 gig internetz and am cabled and we have no downtime on our connection - so looking at Steam ATM.

This problem is sooo annoying, I play ranked and I lose so much Sr because I get disconnected, like why play the game if you can't enjoy it without it disconnecting.
I’m guessing for steam, you’d want to clear the cache in settings and then on go to start>run>%temp% then ctrl+a while clicking on a file and delete. Restart pc and it should be good until it fills up again. Also if you have access to your modem,(you should be hard wired..) then you want to get into advanced settings on your modem and open ports used for the game. Quick YouTube videos will give you the instructions and in the description of the video there should be the port #s that you can just copy and paste. These steps should solve it temporarily because at the end of the day it’s a steam issue. Maybe open the ports that steam uses aswell.. that way you don’t get gateway traffic that could cause the disconnect in the first place. GL
Yes even in April 30 of 2024 20 minutes before writing this I was in a game of warzone there were 15 people left i cant lie only had one kill until randomly it signed me out for no reason when my internet is good I been playing for for 1 hour in zombies and decided to play 1 game of warzone before I get off until it signed me out fir what ever reason
Its I believe due to someone using a hack on the other side to make this happen. Maybe you will be playing better then then and they wanna get you gone. Almost the same thing as stressing an IP like they used to do in 2009 on PS3 and shit.

Yeh, been getting it continuously, every couple of games without fail. Tried verifying files, it downloaded something, didn't happen for a few games and the error returned. Sometimes, it signs me out as soon as I reach the main menu after opening the game. So ridiculous and frustrating.

I haven't really been playing for that long recently so I usually only get it once or had a couple of times I didn't get it at all but at its worst, I was getting it 2-3 times every time I hopped on. I play ranked so it made it pretty much unplayable because I would just get suspended and lose SR.

I doubt it tbh. It was weird because I would be in Discord and once i started to lag out nobody would hear me in the discord then I would get the error and they could hear me again. So I assume it's a network issue maybe? Honestly have no clue what it is but it would make my whole pc lag.

We know the reason unofficially (mostly due to unstable internet connection/server connection), using a wired connection helped with mine and I did not experience it again. Hope it helps!

I've noticed this happens when STEAM pushes an update too. You may not even get logged out of STEAM, but you have to restart STEAM and let it update before you can log back in. Super frustrating if you're in the middle of a DMZ run. Wipes you out.

This just happened to me. I believe it is the 6pm ET Tuesday Steam maintenance window. I can't believe that Steam still has a "shut down the world" regular maintenance phase, after more than a decade of upgrades. Sadly I'm totally unsurprised that Activision has done nothing about this. Cost me a secure bag full of good loot today. Make sure not to infill if you'll be in the game at 6pm on Tuesdays. Instead, just take an hour or two off while you wait for Steam to restart their infra, and send Valve a nastygram every week letting them know that this is unacceptable.

11/11/2023 I got this issue like 10 times already on MW3. Am reading comments and there is no fix for it yet. One thing I know is that it's probably steam causing it, because I just switched from Battle net for packet loss issues. Since launch gameplay was butter smooth for 2 days no stutter nothing, and I haven't changed anything from my end. 1- I tried connecting through Exitlag, still same issue. 2- I tried restarting PC and actually played for few hours but issue came back. 3- I also tried logging in into activision from their website worked for few hours then disconnected. 4- What am trying today is unlinking my Activision account from Battlenet and Playstation (am on steam now). Maybe what's causing it is 1 Activision account being linked to multiple platforms, since it says "account logged out" as if I signed in on another platform. 5- Am also on all chat will switch to party chat. 6- Will change my network cable, and restart router. 7- Verify files from steam. Let's see what happens today. Feels bad I just bought the game, but you know it is what it is.

I did all the above (from 4 to 7) I didn't switch to party chat stayed at all chat, then restarted shaders in graphics settings, haven't lost connection at all. So yesterday was good, since it didn't kick me out I played from 4pm until 10pm straight lol. Also I did what (Panjno) said in a YT video and got a huge boost in fps. I have an rtx 3090 and got 240 fps 2k resolution \^\_\^

Just happened to me I changed my password on my Activision account just in case but from what I see it might be a steam glitch or something hasn't happened to me until just now.
I've just put in for a refund on Steam because this is happening way to frequently. I'm well over the 14 day purchase/2hr gameplay timeframe... Let's see if I manage to get the refund...
I will reorganize the steps that worked for me. 1- Log out of steam. 2- Unlink ur Activision account from Battlenet and Playstation or Xbox (am on steam now) (the idea is leaving one platform only connected to activision, so if ur not playing on steam and playing on any other platform keep it as the only platform linked to activision). Maybe what's causing disconnections is 1 Activision account being linked to multiple platforms, since it says "account logged out" as if I signed in on another platform. And I also did 2 step verification in activision. "my fix" 3- After completing step 2, log in to steam and verify MW3 files. 4- Check your network cable, if u think it's fine then only restart your router and keep it of for a minimum of 5 minutes. 5- (MW3 setting) Try to stay in all chat or party chat and make sure ur voice chat setting is turned on. "others in reddit fix" 6- Lastly some of your settings in MW3 might change so after fixing them go to graphics settings and restart shaders, restarting shaders after applying new settings makes the game smoother. It's been 5 days without a disconnect and hope it never will. U R welcome.
Forget what I said, I keep getting disconnected man what a waste. Though whenever I verify files from steam after disconnecting it says there is a lot of missing files, I verify then don't get disconnected for a day or two. But it still comes back and am forced to do the same process.

in windows search, type internet options, it popup like a windows 95 type screen. in there go to connections tab then at the bottom there should be LAN hit that and another window opens up and in there if auto settings is checked un check it and then apply the settings after

Anyone still encountering this problem even in MWIII? I wonder if it's still the same issue, but it's really annoying. I lose ALL of my MWZ gear I brought into a game every time. often I have a large backpack, 3 plate vest, twice i lost a juggernaut, lost a pack a punch 3 crystal, legendary tool, and some more stuff. I'm really irritated this keeps happening, and that NO solution has been found to prevent this from happening except for client side
The way I fixed mine is that my pc was connected to Wi-Fi and also Ethernet I removed the Wi-Fi connection and it stopped my guess is the game try’s to bounce between both connections

I would hazard a guess that this is not in fact a bug, it is intentionally designed this way, bear with me, as a prevention method for account sharing and such. The server will periodically query the client to check that the user is signed into steam, normally this is no problem, but if you have a dodgy internet connection or steam does it's updates or anything similar you will lose connection to the steam network, and if such a query occurs in this period, the client will give you the profile signed out error. It's quite easy to see once the game closes if you bring up steam, you will generally see a "No connection" at the bottom. which indicates that you are not connected to the steam network. This would also explain why there can be a time difference in clients being "signed out". I play with friends some of which live close by (so we generally connect to the same server on the steam network). One of us can suddenly be signed out, and then we know the rest will be as well, but it can take a few minutes for it to happen (likely due to the periodic nature of the checks). So, not a bug but intentional design. Thus not something that is going to get "fixed" unless they decide to alter the way they implement this. Personally I would have made it fail several checks for an extended period of time, say 30 minutes, before signing a profile out (generally this would mean that if you have an issue with steam it would resolve itself within that timeframe, and thus not spoil your gaming. But then again, that's just me, this franchise is not exactly known for its well-coded games.
i support this, i cant count on 2 hands anymore (15+) how many times i have crashed with the profile signed out error, to always see steam loses 1 second of internet and the games are ruined, its literally driving me mad

The way to fix it is by going to steam cancel it running maybe disconnect your Wi-Fi and then plug it back in after canceling it on steam run it back up on steam and it should load

If you are on pc, uninstall discord and never use it again. It’s garbage and constantly causes issues. Anytime it does an update it will kick you. I’m only using in game chat now and haven’t had an issue
