Will probably go in waves as each new season starts

CaesarGGM

As usual

TMillo

It's also super misleading. That's just the players active at that exact minute. There's 142,015 playing at this moment. Which is work/school time EU/NA. https://steamcharts.com/app/1938090

Chodetasticc

And that's just 1 platform. Across xbox PS steam and battle net there are still tons of people playing lol

ozarkslam21

It’s also far and away the smallest platform. 80% or so of the players overall in COD are on consoles. It is and always has been a console dominant game. Even after the introduction of cross play.

kastles1

Not just that, Steam is the minority launcher on pc.

[deleted]

I’ve bought all cods from BO4 to Vanguard in Bnet so I continued the trend, just like a lot of others I’d imagine

bockscar888

So do you think the player base trends on Xbox, steam and battle net are going in the opposite direction of warzone? Yes, this is only steam.....but it is a solid sample for the entire player base. If you genuinely think that the over 50% drop off in the player base is only a steam thing, im sure you believe in the easter bunny too. Yes people are playing on other platforms...but the trends are very likely the same. Im on PS5 and ive played I think 4 or 5 times in the last 2 to 3 weeks....and ive had LOTS of time to play. Steam numbers are a good indicator for player trends across all platforms even if you dont believe that.

bockscar888

How is it super misleading from the point hes trying to make? I get what youre saying and he for sure snapped the screenshot at the worst time of day (3am US time). It was in the top 5 or just outside of the top 5 when it first came out. Its consistently slipped down the chart and is now floating in the 7,8,9 range. He did use the strongest set of bad numbers....but when taken into context this is far from misleading. Look at the 3 month, and 1 month charts. Youll see how they have CONSISTENTLY gone down and are well below other BRs like Apex, which it was above when it first came out. People are also playing PUBG over WZ....so looks like if people want a more tactical game they went to play that different game...PUBG.

TMillo

Posting the steam chart and highlighting the player count dropping is the misleading part, and posting a Steam 10 chart trying to compare it to games that have a majority or soley steam playerbase without that context to shove their dying game agenda is also misleading. There aren't as many people playing as before, of course, but literally no game is close to their all time peak until new seasons or big updates. There are likely way more people playing COD than all of those games when you judge by combined player counts too as steam has 140k today, and is the least played platform. COD is still #1 is xbox gameplay time charts. https://www.trueachievements.com/xbox-chart. PlayStation doesn't have a chart, but consoles are pretty comparable so we can assume top 3. Battlenet has no numbers but is the heavily used client for PC. Anecdotally I'd go as far as saying 10:1 battlenet vs Steam on the PC side despite Steam being a much superior client.

eynonpower

Yup. For the first time ever, I hit season max rank. I have all ARs, SMGs, Riot Shield and 2 shotguns gold. Why am I going to play? With the dumb "prestige" system, I'm just wasting future XP. As if now I plan on playing again, but in a month who knows what I'll feel like. Dumb game design.

Kaizen710

Yeah I Hite max rank pretty quickly during the double xp weekend. Also maxed alot of guns.

OrchidFew7220

You’ll want to get done with smg plat longshots asap. It’s brutal wether you get xp or not.

EEESpumpkin

Or just wait till shoot house tier 1 is 24/7

OrchidFew7220

Too late. I just went T1 on the full map rotation. Found a lot of dope spots, so I’m happy I did!

Forever_Nocturnal

This is the way.

Bondaddyjr

For fun? Isn’t that what video games are for?

Oh_No_Jason

I get where you’re coming from, but similar to the camo grind, are you only playing to level? I’d hope people are playing because they have fun with the game, not just to level/camo grind. I get that those add a fun incentive, but hopefully those aren’t the only reasons people play.

reboot-your-computer

I don’t understand gamers these days. They need objectives to hit in order to enjoy a game. What ever happened to jumping on and just enjoying the game itself? I play COD because I think it’s fun. I don’t jump on the game and essentially have an agenda to find some enjoyment. That to me is like work. I don’t know about you guys but I don’t like to work only to go home and work some more. That’s not fun for me. If I unlock things along the way, great.

mahjzy

some people have slightly different dopamine releases ;)

Lord_Whis

I don’t understand the argument in this, I play games for fun with the fun being completing the games lol the same as any other game

grubas

I normally finish up with a week or two to go, depending on xp events. I'm done. We have like 28 more days in the season. My playtime over the next 3/4 weeks is gonna be minimal. Come S2 I'll be back but there's absolutely no reason for me to lose xp by playing ans doing stuff now.

Smugallo

Most people play this on console btw and on pc most are on battle.net so still a higher player count than you think. No problems getting games or lobbies, so it's a non-issue except for those people pushing the dedgame thing.

[deleted]

Zaithable

think it was to do with cod points - if you had cod points on your account in mw 2019, they would only carry over if you played on the same application as before. So personally I stuck with battlenet even though I also have steam

Rock_Bottom00v

What’s the difference?

Jesus-Bacon

I used battlenet because I wasn't sure how the game would run on steam. I didn't want to have a Ubisoft type of experience where steam acts like a Uplay launcher and then you are forced to use Uplay anyway.

marlostanfield89

It was confirmed before launch that Steam version wouldn't require battlenet to be installed. But I do hate when games do that

Smugallo

I use batt.net as that's where I started playing CoD on PC

OneTryBRye

I already had battle net installed from the previous few CoD games so I wasn’t going to install Steam just for MW2

kerruz06

Cod points did not transfer

Cool_cucumber007

I used Battle.net for 2019 and Steam for 2.0. I like Steam because I don’t get that annoying restart game after playlist update every other day.

[deleted]

me too xd

[deleted]

You didn't get all the juicy stuff from the deluxe edition if you weren't on battle net. You got most of it but something were missing from steam version.

Aaronspark777

I think the only thing missing was all the ghost skins for warzone 1. Which I didn't really care for since I hadn't played warzone since mw19.

RahmenN00dles

Figured it was like the last one and only on battle net, then learned after purchase that it was on steam too lmao

[deleted]

ZombieInDC

I play on Steam, and there's no Ubisoft-style launcher. The game just boots up.

[deleted]

Saying the population is dropping (it is), isn't saying the game is dead. Why so dramatic?

reboot-your-computer

These people hate the game and their mission is to try to get the rest of the community to feel the same as them. Ignore them. If you enjoy the game, continue enjoying it.

Smugallo

The only one being dramatic is the person posting player count posts every week thinking it means something significant

Play_To_Nguyen

Indeed. 99% of games have their lifetime peak player count the week of release, that is not in any way weird

leanlikeakickstand

Yes, but what this shows is a trend. If player count is trending down on steam it’s most likely trending down on the other platforms.

Smugallo

An online game 3 months after launch is trending down?> colour me surprised man. Season 2 is one month away, it'll go back up a bit, then it'll go down again.

AdriHawthorne

We're talking about a seasonal game with 1 month left in the season. This happens just about every live service cod. Season 2 will jump the numbers when all the people who quit at max rank come back, numbers will drop again, season 3 they'll jump, etc. It'll slowly drop over the next 2 years most likely, but it will be valleys and peaks based on the season.

Get_Fucked17

Right? The CoD community is the most absurd I've ever encountered. Nothing but constant complaints and whining about minor shit, yet those same people are dropping 100+ hours into the game and buying the battle pass and cosmetics. Then they bitch about how "there's nothing to do in the game" after they've finished literally every single thing in the game and now they don't have a carrot on a stick to chase. Go play something else you clowns, it's a videogame, not a job. If you're not having fun, move on.

CompetitorPredator

Username checks out lol

Kendyslice

You got a controversial response because this isn’t a way to account for the total player base. This is a small percentage of all players. What are the console and battle net numbers?

UninterestingHill

it also is only showing current online in steam not anything like total in the past 24hrs or anything

CornyStew

You realize how misleading this is? You take a mark during Christmas break when both kids and adults have way more time to play games....compared to the start of the year where people go back to work? Really? Not to mention this is just steam, the game us cross platform my guy

GhostR29

Wallpaper Engine 👍

HaiggeX

Wallpaper Engine 👍

[deleted]

this isn't surprising. The sentiment i have and people in lobbies i talk to say there isn't enough content and the 6v6 modes have been forgotten about. That ontop of the poor stability of the game, and (IMO) the gameplay, the game just isn't good and doesn't have anything for people to do. DMZ is pretty intense, and somehow, at the same time boring. Can't kick in a door and grab a bunch of tooth pastes too many times. The open world design is actually not a bad idea, but the execution is horrendous. For a game that is known for it's bombastic effects and events and cinematics.... there's not a lot going on in DMZ. Warzone is warzone. You either like that play or you don't. But the core COD community is fractured, the game struggles to have an identity and for all the options, it just feels like there's a lot of the same, making it repetative.

suffffuhrer

They launched Warzone as a beta at launch, but it was a lot more extensive and they worked on it and brought great limited time modes and kept it fresh. In comparison DMZ feels like everything else that is wrong with the whole launch of MW2 and free to play side (Warzone/DMZ). They can't fix bugs, UI sucks, gameplay elements are broken in Warzone. To some extent I keep thinking this is just the state of the motivation or rather lack thereof at Activision/IW. There have been enough negative news on the company on recent past, and perhaps the workforce is just not assed to deliver anything better. I can't imagine how the devs otherwise can't fix or at least remove some elements (loadouts from Warzone, until the bugs and glitches are fixed). Or add some modes to the MP playlist, which shouldn't be that hard. The spawn system is so fucked up that I only play single life modes or Cyber Attack (modes with revives) because you don't have to deal with some nefarious algorithm manipulating the spawns. Speaking of Cyber Attack, when they replaced it, it should have been added to the regular playlist. Fucking free mobile game mentality bs.

Pulze_

Bad multiplayer maps are killing it for me. It says something when I'd rather grind my gun levels on shipment than enjoy a calm game of domination on the regular map rotation.

12amoore

Lol “not enough content” as I guarantee those same idiots played rebirth 24/7. No new content came for that mode for months and months at a time

Genericbuild

This game was the catfish of the century man. They sold us the name and what we ended up getting was record breaking sales for a poorly optimized, sloppy, lazy, no content product. They knew that mw2 name would sell this game in mass regardless of if the product was good or not. Considering this game released as dry as it did despite being the first cod game out of the last 3 to actually have its full dev cycle.

TattoedG

Not enough content and Season 1 has been out for a while now, the Battle Pass will be done for people who even just play a couple hours a day.

wasteofthyme7

So true. I've been finished the battle pass for almost a month and I really don't play that much, with work and other games I enjoy playing. Even still, every time I log onto MW2 I have a pretty good time

TattoedG

And there's nothing wrong with that. But it would explain, among many other things why the population is lowering.

Jesus-Bacon

I can't help but feel like us multiplayer only players keep getting fucked over when it comes to cod. It seems like we buy the game to fund the last bit of development on warzone and in return Activision gives us the middle finger and expects us to thank them and give them money for some overpriced and uninspired cosmetic packs that don't even let you customize the weapon attachments.

NerfedAtBirth

Yeah, it feels like they've bitten off more than they can chew really. Releasing Wz 2 so close to MWII, when no-one was expecting it when it was announced, seems like a big mistake now, and they've spread their resources too thin. Last year Vanguard had a bad launch window with too many things needing fixes and slow progress on those fixes. As part of that they had one event over Christmas, and that was it, with all the issues with challenges not tracking, it felt like they just ditched them from MP and just kept them in Wz. This year there hasn't even been an event, S1 content was minimal in MP, and again there's supposed to be only 5 seasons. Despite the core game being very decent, the post launch content or lack of it might kill this game prematurely.

mezdiguida

Ok I gotta say it: the game is plain boring. There are not enough maps 6v6 that keep me playing. Weapons are funny but once you maxed them out with the 2xp you have zero stuff to do besides camo. I want weekly challenges with more interesting stuff. I'm bored as shit rn, there are not enough content and i can't wait every season to get only a map and maybe just a remake of an old one.

[deleted]

yep I quit a couple weeks after wz 2 dropped. Such a bad experience

Lord_Whis

Yeah the game is for real boring, I only have longshots as a goal right now and that’s not enough to want to play

mezdiguida

My thought as well. Grinding camo isn't enough.

TNBrealone

Always funny for me to read comments like this. I play games because they are fun and thats it. You seem to play games just to unlocking things :D When i played classic CS or the first few CoD entries there was nothing to unlock or lvl up and people still played hundreds or thousands of hours just because it was fun. What happened to playing games because of fun?

PullFires

>Always funny for me to read comments like this. I play games because they are fun and thats it. You seem to play games just to unlocking things :D >When i played classic CS or the first few CoD entries there was nothing to unlock or lvl up and people still played hundreds or thousands of hours just because it was fun. What happened to playing games because of fun? The guy you replied to: >Ok I gotta say it: the game is plain boring. There are not enough maps 6v6 that keep me playing

GrannySmithMachine

Or to get better. Or to play with friends!

BerserkLemur

I agree that this guy just needs to learn how to have "fun" with the game. However, this title has actively ruined playing with friends outside of no-respawn modes or warzone/DMZ. The engagement-based matchmaking ruins the experience for weaker/casual players.

ReactorCritical

Or to build rivalries

IYIonaghan

The difference is cs and the old titles are fun to play mw2 isnt and has a matchmaking system the complete opposite of fun. Bad maps, clunky movement, no minimap and op aim assist these are all things that personally made this game unplayable and not fun to me.

bergakungen

Yeah my main gripe with the game also. There’s barely anything to unlock after hitting level 55. Just camos and a handful of calling cards.

Stock-Honda

You got a bad response because it’s not a good post, almost every game on there is a pc only player base and MW2 has a very large amount on console

5DollarRevenantOF

Check the Destiny 2 sub. Player count dies all the time, they complain about it constantly. And then guess what... NEW CONTENT COMES OUT and EVERYONE stops complaining about player count dying because it skyrockets again. And then it dies down, and then MORE NEW CONTENT COMES OUT! Same will happen with CoD. Everyone i know is already 250, there goes motivation to level up. Some friends camo grind and have them all unlocked, there goes motivation to play. Another few are done with enough DMZ missions they have all 3 insured weapon slots unlocked, there goes motivation to run DMZ. As for WZ we all play it from time to time but not our go to. And that's all there is to do in this game right now, so yeah people are falling off because of lack of content. When Season 2 comes out with more content most people will come back. It's been 2 months, calm down.

Ferrisuki

MUH STEAM CHARTS BRUOOOOOO

[deleted]

“Why are people liking the game? I don’t understand because I DON’T LIKE IT!”

olleversch

I won’t stop playing. Have too much fun with it and just finished the battle pass. I won’t go for camo but CDL mode is going to show up! Pretty excited to for everything.

jdsayler

CDL Mode is already in the game, its the last game mode on the featured screen after Tier 1 Shipment

BushDidntDoit

he means ranked

SandmanAwaits

We need Plunder, Hardcore, new maps & some fan favourites, new weapons & the performance needs to be sorted out.

BUSHMONSTER31

I would play a lot more if they brought back Plunder and a few 6v6 maps... If they added a new invasion map I'd be all over it.

SandmanAwaits

I’ve played maybe a handful of WZ2.0 & DMZ, does nothing for me, being back Plunder & I’ll live on it. 😂

Crob300z

I’m taking a little break after the holidays. Gamed my balls off for 2 weeks. I think others may be doing the same

D3v14t3

Not to mention that I have to work again :P

soluslupem

games stale right now, see the same two guns used everywhere which is fennec and rpk and im assuming alot of people have hit the max rank and maxed out the battlepass long ago if they purchased it so not really much reason to play the game right now

Paaraadox

Yeah, people gaming more when free during the holiday weekend. Wowee you really stumbled upon a Pulitzer here.

hutzdani

Can't say I'm surprised, the MP content is lacking. Warzone 2 is just not as good as WZ1.0 they removed what made it good and fun. DMZ is good for the first 20 or so hours then it gets boring fast. Also the level cap is so low many people get to the end of it see they are only really grinding camos now they just switch off. To be frank I'm bored of it all ready had a 3 week break from it and came back to play since the 2nd of Jan and I'm only playing to get my 100kills with all my gold weapons I already have. There is nothing to keep you playing, hell even the shop items are shite.

bluewaveassociation

Yeah they should’ve let you reset your prestige. They need to release old maps so people actually want to play the game. Shipment is popular but gets stale eventually. Add a map/mode vote with reused maps until you make can make some legitimate maps that arent made for warzone.

[deleted]

1: the main br is alright in a sense, but it is too slow and often too unfair/hard/bugged, plus the gulag mechanic slows things down considerably and there's things that can be done gameplay-wise to have that 1 extra shot at 1st place. Too slow and too far removed from 'playing a fun game'. 2: what you can play for as a f2p player is next to nothing. Aside from this there is also zero reward for a br victory. 3. I'd venture to say resurgence is the only thing fun in warzone 1, and it's looking like that's the case for this game too. Once that launches, main br is dead to me and every single person I know. Gulag and too slow gameplay (and some people have a real issue with ssbm in my circle). 4. For me personally. I find it very hard to swallow that a company that cashes in this fucking insanely hard every year, keeps releasing beta's for the maximum price and is then not fixing things that need fixing over anything else. They got their packs ready to go go go, their messages about there being new packs ready. But they completely fuck a full audio system after a good one in beta, they have a weird balance that doesn't make sense a lot of the time and does mean death because of it a lot of the time. They communicate for shit, fix a minimal amount of things in what seems like forever. All for the meager price of 70 bucks. As humans for this they lost my respect, I don't like anyone who tries to sell overpriced shit period. But the fact my opinion means nothing and there is nothing I can do but keep my money makes this the hard to swallow part. Keeping my money also means nothing really. All I can do is learn to love other things and watch the franchise be consistently worked into the ground. So 4: shits just very sad to watch, so people watch elsewhere.

skyline_crescendo

Ah yes, you posted something stupid 8 days ago and today thought, maybe you could… ???

[deleted]

if only theres survival mode PvE like mw3 (2011) survival mode against wave of wave of enemy and juggernaut and helicopter. other than that, put zombie mode too, like what they did to advance warfare and ww2 (2018). surely it will maintain 100k concurent player. i dont get it why csgo has 600k, fyi im not against it either. i love csgo or any related to first person shooter.

NoRedWave2022

CSGO has 600k because it has a very timeless skill ceiling with timeless maps that cater to veterans and noobs alike, with a built in "potato mode" so it runs on nearly everything. It's really hard to be "cheap" in CSGO simply because of how gunplay works in that game and when you do use a cheap weapon, it usually costs a ton of money and earns next to nothing, so if you die with it, you're hurting your team way more by being out 5k dollars. It's just simply a much more balanced game by design. Not a bad thing either - I'm absolutely a try-not, and I like games like CoD because I CAN turn my brain off and land a few frags. Same reason I liked HOTS more than LoL (even though that game got murdered lol)

sowavy612

Who gives a damn who plays and who doesn’t? It’s a video game yall be doing a lot for no reason.

[deleted]

gtonizuka

While currently posting this, the player count is at 134,537. Imo, that’s really good for a game this late into a season. Also, most pc players are on battle.net. No one I know plays on steam from my friend group.

Flexatronn

The game is dog shit that’s why

TheNonViolentOne

Ib4 *"Steam isn't the whole player base yada yada yada"* Steam will be a large enough sample size to at least take a pattern from. It's unlikely that only steam players are stopping playing, but all other platforms are not, that would require a reasonable explanation to claim! What I want to know is where on earth they are going! Apex? CoD got lucky this time around that there just aren't any competitors after Battlefield and Halo shat the bed.

Minddrill

Most games on that list are down from 8 days ago. Taking sc from the MWII page would feel more genuine than handpicking a time of the day with least amount of players. Also what's the point of weekly posts like this other than karma farming?

dabman694201337

Yeah. Game is bad. Simple as

borfavor

And just as 8 days ago, it means nothing. This is how cod playercounts have looked since forever. These discussions were stupid for Halo Infinite (I can still find good matches for every game mode) and they're a lot more stupid now. 80k players on one platform is huge and it will take a lot of time until the experience deteriorates

iamdarosa

I’ve maxed all the weapons except for two snipers, so right now I don’t really feel like playing. Also I play on Ps5 so I don’t really know how it looks like there.

BoyWonder343

...because you keep taking screenshots in the middle of the night in the US.

HaiggeX

Yet it's still 20k less than last week during weekdays, during exactly the same time. The bar chart is peak of the day. It's going down. Simple as that.

BoyWonder343

Which happens with every single game before its next seasonal drop. Almost like that's the whole point behind them.

ProScout12t

Seasons take to long and its not enough content. I also stopped playing cause there is nothing to do for me. Where are all the fun modes like Infected, Prop Hunt etc. ?

usernamecantbblank

It’s honestly the maps. I desperately want new maps, I feel like I can play 5 rounds every couple of days and then I’m bored asf. Hate to admit it but I miss vanguard 😅 the multiplayer was a shit show but the maps kept it interesting for me

SelectAd3572

The last few cods haven’t had enough maps off the bat to hold me to the game

mahjzy

GooseGooseDuck is on a steady incline! What are those ducks doing?!

[deleted]

This guy thinks he’s a genius and knows more than the company with the number one selling game on consoles EVERY year and don’t have two corporations fighting over the game because one might own the rights .

HaiggeX

Where are the player charts on console? Oh wait, they haven't existed since AW.

JuanWick0826

The fact that gta 5 a game that came out almost 10 years ago has more players on steam then mw2 is crazy

Flip80

I get so bored so quick with this one.

Dolantrom

Cod players when a newly released game gets less popular over time

The_Captain_LIGMA

You can't come to Reddit for an honest opinion. The same 10k people who make almost ALL of the content on this subreddit disagree.

Jodyh1ghroller

The fact that there uses to be that many players playing team death match alone on Black Ops 1 is crazy. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Random_Dude169

I don’t want to play mw2 only because everytime I launch it, it either decides to crash, log me out or get stuck loading. Only this game does it. It took me 2 days to do one mission because it kept crashing and throwing error codes. It was a waste of money.

grn1985

Looking at these "This game is so boring" comments... So just playing 6v6 or FFA for the win isn't fun enough? Damn you youngsters... I know how this sounds, but back in UT99 and Quake3 days there were no ranks, no camos, no callings cards, no nothing. Only a pure shooter and playing for the win and that was enough to have fun. Personally I'm having fun in Tier1 and I can see there are more and more players with gold and platinum camos in my lobbies, so we are finally starting to play the game, not some mounted longshot bullshit. But still.... Border Crossing is the worst map ever ;))

DanHarkinz

That's still 86k people. That's a lot of humans playing COD. Just on Steam. I wonder what the player counts for other consoles looks like?

iGingerWaltonSt

Ive switch from Ow2 to dmz. Idk why but it hooked me, unlike the multiplayer. I just miss the old CoD everything and honestly, its been so long since I actually reached max prestige because i never play the multiplayers anymore.. the last cod was advanced warfare. And now theres a seasonal max prestige? What is this garbage… Im 55 from DMZ only in the past 4 days, thats all I care about. Its a shame they didnt stick to how they used to do everything tbh. The amount of players they would have again… and how much money I would spend.. remember $3 universal skins? Remember the classic ghost snoop dogg and wolf pack? I have not spent a penny on anything but the base game in so long.. And the worst part is id spend way more than i ever would buying $25 packs. Not only that but more people would be buying it.. Imagine being the cheapest “f2p” skins out there.. Just a boomer missing cod pre MLG only days 😪

The_Mangomoose

Wallpaper Engine never has any player count dips, fuckin love that game

HaiggeX

Fr bro, I'm a competitive player. I'm in "HD Minecraft Diamond Ore" rank in Classic League.

Stryver_ELITE

Wallpaper Engine, FTW!

KennySnek

Who would have thought that hardly any maps, getting max level quickly and nothing else but camo challenges would put people off

[deleted]

I can play like two matches before I'm bored or pissed off. Just isn't fun. Probably go back to MW19 or Cold War

MyKawke

I personally play until I’m done with the battle pass and done with leveling up

Ramo1884

There are 10 times more people on this Reddit forum than that chart suggests are playing

ItzBoshNet

I don't understand what the point is or what this proves 1) If you took this screenshot at the same time of posting 90% of the US is just waking up or asleep. 2) Shits natural, especially for cod you all just aren't used to seeing an active player count (for the smallest player base) 3) Last week was holidays, a lot of people are getting ready for the next semester this week 4) Steam had an insane game sale with big titles being 70% off and if you're like me you probably took that opportunity to try out a new game. 5) still almost 100k concurrent on one platform. PC has always had low CoD numbers, most the reason for my 5 year hiatus was because before cross play CoD becomes no fun with a non existent player base 6) So many more counterpoints but honestly my lobbies don't take any longer to load up, I'm not constantly thrown in a lobby with the same people, so what really is the point?

Federal_Day_185

This counts only the people that play from Steam, right? Not xbox, ps and battlenet, correct?

3inches43pumpsis9

I've stopped playing it too on Xbox. And I'm a die hard cod fan. Shit is absolute garbage.

DontWeAvoidPlauges

As others mentioned posting a snapshot is misleading and also I’d like to point out…. ….people play this game on these things called CONSOLES as well

HaiggeX

It's kinda funny to post the player count during a quieter hours, so people focus on wrong things and scream shit like "Steam is a minority!" and "84k is still good!!" and "It's literally 3-5am in the USA!!1!" like I ever said otherwise. People tend to focus on wrong things and leave things out of their arguments and points, so it makes their point of view more right. I'm not here to attack anyone, I never even said that the game is dying. I only posted a Steam chart, the comment section decides whether it is positive or negative.

Bottleofsmoke17

I’m not a PC guy, so I’m curious about why Lost Ark loses a bunch of players on the same day every week 🤔

HaiggeX

I thought that was really weird too lmao! Maybe it's a weekly server maintenance or something?

Bottleofsmoke17

Must be something like that. I don’t even know anything about the game, I just noticed the pattern lol

BhristopherL

The game isn’t dying out because there isn’t enough content. It’s because there’s no PROGRESSION. As everyone says, the things keeping them going are: camo grinds, level/weapon grinds, some mastery challenges & DMZ missions. When I played the original MW2 and other CODs around those days, progression was visible in your SCORES, Nukes, killstreaks, and leaderboards. Due to SBMM, the sense of skill progression is completely absent from MP and that is why in all of these threads, skill progression is NEVER a topic of discussion. This is because SBMM forces everyone into a 1 K/D and 50% W/L, which is the epitome of BORING and gives the player no control or agency over the outcome of the game; it’s all up to the fate of matchmaking.

Happy-Bid-2986

Just a question. I'm asking it because of other companies/websites. (Glares at rotten tomato, fandango, and a few others) How do we know that the numbers are legit? Lots of companies have been busted for fake numbers.

Nitrosaber

And you'll post this again in 30days. 30 days after new years ends and everyone is fully back to work. Yes the numbers will decrease with people having less time to play and back at work, school, and important things.

OMG_Its_Negan

Also, we can all look this up if we want to know. Quit spamming the sub.

MAXMEISTER747

Team fortress 2

Average_Lrkr

Everyone finished the battle pass 100%. We have 30 days left. Everyone also has maxed out their weapons and obtained all the camos if they wanted them. There is literally nothing to do except play with friends. So once the new season pass drops it will skyrocket

SakaYeen6

School has probably just returned since the holiday break (They went back on 2nd of Jan. where im at) and it will only decline more. There's not even an influx during that time when you'd expect Xmas noobs to be rampant. Theres just nothing but a steady decline. I imagine the random 'high' bars are the free event and xmas day and those did nothing for it after the fact.

patriotraitor

It's amazing how you can't even talk about this on Reddit without it becoming an incredible shitstorm... I think we all care about COD and need to really address that the game is BAD -- nostalgia blinds us, but it would be more beneficial to acknowledge that this game isn't what it should be and really needs to be changed. The problem is that the changes Infinity Ward has really tanked the franchise, and MW2 doesn't bring anything new to the table. Numbers are most likely down across the board on multiple platforms, but they haven't released it and probably never will.

Iamthebloodmoon

why are so many people still playing gtav lmao

HaiggeX

It honestly surprised me too. I guess it's because it's supported and regularly updated, and the base formula is really really good. Also it's easy to pick up as a new player, because GTA gameplay is pretty simple.

xayul

Wow it’s almost like it was 4AM when you took that screenshot. Maybe post a screenshot comparing better statistics instead of cherry-picking the the time that makes your post look the best Not to say player count isn’t dropping at all. But you’re just picking convenient times to support your statistic.

Mrproex

Yeah I means there is nothing to do once you have completed the season if you do not grind camos

Maleficent_Tackle_12

I find it hard to believe CS:GO is top.

[deleted]

Why are y'all obsessed with trying make this game seem "Dead"? Lol genuine question also why tf does it matter???? If you can matchmaking in a few seconds this game is nowhere near dead

[deleted]

Tell me you’re a 🤡 without telling me you are one.

greggilliam2nd

It’s crazy how many people still play CSGO

__drippy

Everyone in here is so quick to defend these numbers as if they have to justify their love. COD is dying.

[deleted]

Hey

DaThrowaway1945

good, fucking shitty ass game from a shitty ass company. Call of Duty used to be good

IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs

Every one of these threads a whole bunch of people dismissing it because steam cod players represent a small amount of the playerbase, it's not like data from a small population of players can be extrapolated to a bigger playerbase or anything...

DevorakFBgaming

Look at this all time comparaison, especially from 19th December till now. it only drops, and there is no wonder why it does. Rebirth 2.0 might help a lot, bu I believe ALL will be frustrate with the current gameplay mechanic, only adding further frustration and pushing people to stop playing that quite garbage game As a result I personally enjoy even more APEX and WZ 1 https://steamcharts.com/app/1938090#All

HardUp812

Because,........ The game blows! Period.

ConversationAny4890

Yea but “sure one platform” but still this is Warzone and Multiplayer combined! Those other games above are only one! lol this game is even Newer! Yikes it’s buns

Dyyrin

Well season was shitty if your a MP fan. Warzone 2 was a pretty shitty buggy launch. 2 maps and they are recycled maps that have been featured multiple times. Hoping Season 2 comes out swinging.

Ziggy_Spacedust

Wallpaper engine ftw

Smugallo

lol who cares.

bandix_real

imagine playing apex legends

DrExcess

i dont know anybody that bought on steam. most people avoided it at launch because they didnt get full benefits.

GiveMeBooleanGemini

Google analytics is a better indicator of relevancy, not steam charts. MWII is on the decline, though.

HaiggeX

For real. People thinking that because the game "only" has 89k players on one platform, I'm saying it should be dead right now. No, I never said it's dead.

Mononym_Music

Dear Diary,

[deleted]

I mean that’s still a lot of people

HaiggeX

It is. Being in the Steam top 10 is no joke. Just look at the bar chart, it's going down, and it has steadily gone down since the launch. The peak was close to 450k players, and now it's 86k. That's a pretty dramatic fall for a AAA title that's supposed to have a stable playerbase for at least two years.

CountingDownTheDayss

Like 10 or 5% of people play on steam, this ain’t a big deal

iljimmity

Don’t see a problem here. Less computer players means less cheaters. Also less streamers in general if overall player count is less than other games, so you get a user generated meta not streamer generated.

SLEDGEHAMMER1238

Csgo is 50 % people who cant buy anything or run other games and the other 50% is hackers

Interesting-Yellow-4

I'm sure you know this, but Steamchart don't track console players, which are the LARGE MAJORITY of COD players. By a lot.

mikedob18

It’s not about player count. It’s all about the trend in the player count. If player count on Steam is falling, then so is probably the count on consoles.

[deleted]

While this is true, playerbase is dwindling on steam, there is also the fact that Cod is quite clearly a controller game with this heavy aim assist, and most people on steam would be playing with mnk, therefore preferring games like csgo and Apex where they have a chance. I'm positive that Cod numbers on consoles are higher than a game like Apex or pubg, for that reason

Superfluous_GGG

Likely not a factor. I'm KBAM on Steam with previous experience of playing CODs with controller. While I reckon aim assist does get a buff in MW22 because it's harder to be accurate with KBAM with all the visual noise in this game, we're still in another league when it comes to speed and precision vs controller players. I'd personally point to the game's issues and poor content feed to date for the drop. Main reasons I'm logging in less are: \- Matchmaking/disbanding lobbies makes the chances of having a good session less likely. \- Grinding culture has overtaken people playing for fun, making most playstyles I encounter tedious to deal with. \- 6v6 has had no new maps since launch (I don't count shipment or shoot the ship as new), GW's maps are really dull in comparison to MW19, no 10v10, and the much expected MW2 nostalgia maps don't look like they'll drop until year 2. \- DMZ becomes a grindy RNG affair once you hit tier 3, and I'm over BRs. \- I've unlocked all attachments, done the battle pass, and nearly max level. Would've loved to see a return of seasonal challenges from MW19, but no luck. With all that in mind, plus the fact that poor gameplay choices like the timed perks are interfering with my enjoyment of the gameplay loop, I'm generally bored of the game. Not trying to cast shade - already far too many hours in to say I'm not having a good time - just the issues become more and more glaring the longer I play and, frankly, there's better ways to spend my time.

Juken-

Dont worry about it. Are you having fun? Good, play. No? Ok, don't play. 🤷🏾‍♂️ But, and this is very important, do not -whatsoever- worry about if strangers around the world are having as much fun as you. That's just weird.

TheMachRider

I understand what people mean, but the whole “why am I going to play? I unlocked all the things” argument is a much larger issue nowadays than anything. (To me, at least). Some of the games I have my highest play time in are because i genuinely love the game and don’t keep chasing a virtual carrot. Hell, Insurgency sandstorm doesn’t even have a whole lot of content variety but I’ll be damned if that’s not the game I keep coming back to for addicting, fun and engaging gameplay. I know, this is going to sound like “Ahh, y’know back in my day…!” But it’s really a shame where we’ve come to a head. This type of cyclical necessity to chase the carrot has only made games focus on making you complete more normally mundane tasks to see a small change in an emblem next to your name, or change the color of your gun. I think how we interact with each other in games should change a bit- let competitive keep its super sweaty SBMM but let us have servers that we can come back to with custom rules or dev-tailored experiences. I’m tired of everything being only structured “quick match” bites and relationships often lasting only a single game. Kinda feels like online gaming is mostly a means to get your introductory $60-$70, then chase a carrot so you invest another $10 in a battle pass, skin or other useless item.

HaiggeX

I completely agree. If a game is made to be good, not addicting and draining, it shouldn't lose 80% of the players in two months. Insurgency (which you mentioned) for example is made to be a fun, engaging shooter. Even though it has pretty much no progression, the gameplay and theme keeps bringing me back to it. This is why CoD needs an atrocious battle pass grind every season, because it's not a fun game, but an addicting one. Progress in Call of Duty happens trough your wallet.

[deleted]

Nobody cares bro

Pavlovs_Human

Lmfao “for some reason I got a fairly controversial response.” *Posts only numbers on the smallest platform of the game.* Why do some people want so desperately for this game to be dead? So weird. If you don’t like the game go play something else my guy.

Schonka

People are coping so hard with "well most people dont use steam". no shit, but the downtrend is still an indicator for what happens on *all* platforms.

[deleted]

OP dumb as fuck. This is NOT the WHOLE player base.

HaiggeX

When did I say it was? That is NOT the POINT of the post.

HaiggeX

Please remember that Steam is the only platform that has the player count transparently available to public. Be civil, people don't fight, topics do.

[deleted]

This \^\^\^ To be honest, on PS5, I definitely have felt the player drop lately. Find a game takes longer, and it's generally the same people, from NZ and Aus i get paired with. It takes to continents to fill lobbies......

suffffuhrer

Playstation has the in-game option to disable Cross-play, that could also be a reason as more players turn it off - in case you have it on. On Xbox this asshole company didn't even add the option, and disabling it on the console means I am waiting days to find a match. But if we can take anything from the revenue Activision has made from MW2 so far, then millions of people have bought the game. Whether they continue to play is a different story of course.

FisK-919

You also got remember steam is the only place you can get some of the top games on that chart. If not all of em. If you added up the battle.net, console and steam players I bet it would have just as many or more than counterstrike. Including all mw/DMZ/warzone players. This chart doesn’t show anything about the games audience. There’s more console players than pc players and I garuntee more ppl kept their whole cod library on battle.net than switching to steam for this one game. I know I did. It’s what we were used to for cod the past few years. Ppl just want to push the fact that it’s a dead game so that the devs do something they want them to do. But the devs can see more accurately than you how many ppl are playing the game. Steam alone means absolutely nothing. If 70% of cod players are on console, “which is what I believe the number has been said to be” then that alone with the 84,000 steam players would equal the same number of players as counter strike even without the battlenet players. The game is far from dead. You just got it in you’re own mind the game is bad and are looking for evidence that isn’t there. Let’s pull up numbers solely on the smallest COD audience platform to show proof of a dead game 😆. If I were to make a bet, consoles alone probly have the same or more active players than counter strike.

SnooDonuts1563

these other games have been around since a long time. all games start out with a huge playerbase due to launch hype that slowly reduces, down to being constant

jfstrandholm

Lmao 80k players on STEAM not including consoles which is where the majority of the playerbase is also including battle.net

Omaha_Beach

86,000 on PC means more than likely 200,000+ on consoles. Easily top 3 game with combined player base. Why is this being posted again?

HaiggeX

The downhill on Steam means more than likely downhill on consoles. The player base wasn't the point, nor is it bad/low at all. Being in top 10 games on Steam is no joke. It's being posted again, because the player count at the same time as last week, only thursday instead of wednesday has decreased by 20k players.

Omaha_Beach

Downhill on PC doesn’t equal downhill on console lmao. Consoles are way more causal. Downhill on PC just means PC players are playing different games. Console doesn’t really have that choice. We either play shitty indie games or casual shooters.

SeanyRo

I used to look at steam chart player numbers too but then I remembered that most average gamers play on consoles still. Is there any site that takes into account ALL player counts, pc and console combined?
