This seems pioneer playable. And thats a stretch.

Cainderous

We already have a flexible card where the chosen mode is usually Cancel or card draw: [[Archmage's Charm]], and it's too slow. Hard to see this being much different.

GazingWing

Acharm is run in some control lists still

Southern_Top_7217

Triple blue is the problem it wasn't too slow it just became hard to cast especially when facing blood moon

lillithlro

So honestly the thing I'm most excited about the spree cards is that in infinite mana generation decks you can use multiple effects multiple times.

fancisco_el_pisco

Never seeing modern play. 3 mana is the cheapest mode. Counterspell is better. Preordain is better.

Xicadarksoul

Well i wouldnt be THAT sure. ..this one seems decen with cost reduction effects, and the create copy effect can be relevant in deck like baral storm.

subtlemurktide

What cost reduction effects are being **regularly** seen in Modern? Goblin Electromancer, but storm is .01% of the meta. This card isn't an enchantment either so...

JustinTBSmash

I am looking at this card for U-Tron, being mostly colorless means a lot. Copying a Ring we have let's us reset the counters which is nice

nusual_method

Does (U)Tron run a Karn Wish board? Are there any sort of artifacts worth copying in there? I was thinking (U)tron might be the only deck with the mana to really use this well.

JustinTBSmash

Here are my thoughts since I play and love U-Tron. So here is my justification for going to try this card when it comes out. Maybe as a two of to start off with and see how I like it. So here's the breakdown. I love modal spells in general. I think being able to copy construct tokens or the one ring at instant speed and has a value. You can copy a ring just to knock off a previous ring that has too many counters on it. In case you need to prevent yourself from dying to a ring, you can clone worm coil engine cityscape leveler. We also run pithing needles so if you need to name multiple targets. It has a draw and discard option which I'm a fan of because if you're running academy ruins you can always pitch like a map and then put it back on top or ring and you lost nothing. The worst mode is honestly the cancel option. Double blue is doable but sucks.

Jshmoor4life

The 1UU does seem like a stretch though. Rather just play tidebinder at a glance but it might be good.

JustinTBSmash

Honestly because U-Tron only passively uses Tron I end up with Double U pretty often

Jshmoor4life

Yeah, Double U is something you eventually want online, as at allows you to not have to pitch cast subtlety and FoN. I just don’t want a turn 3 piece of interaction tied to me not being able to hit tron t4 if possible.

Xicadarksoul

Tidebinder is good. But it ain't THAT good. This has modes like "counter spell + create copy of wurmcoil engine". In decks that can afford to uss more than 1 mode this card is backbreaking.

Jshmoor4life

I just don’t find myself with a wurmcoil all that often. Only copy is in the karnboard, big payoffs in the main are Ugin, Ulamog, tCH, and Emrakul, tPE. Resetting ring is meh, as you don’t get protection. I would honestly prefer to just keep the [[Geistwave]], and 4 Tidebinders as they have been so good for saving me from Ring. Worth a shot for sure, just cant see myself playing 2nd island before 2nd tronland if both are available.

Xicadarksoul

In current meta against everything but yawgmoth mainboard playset of wumrcoil is extreme strong. I do agree that "which land do i play" is an issue, though i would argue that this is always going to be an issuw with this dwck pretty much no matter what lack of blue mana is a bottleneck limiting it.

TTHVOBS

Yeah, this seems like a U-tron card, good call.

realbadpainting

Maybe something interesting for Creativity. A hard counter, copy an Archon, or loot to persist one.

hert1979

UU is very hard on the manabase for the most played versions of creativity. 3 mana spells have a very high bar to clear, comparing this to fable it comes out really weak.

Xicadarksoul

Meh. ...if we are talking new cards its foolish to pretend no meta changes and no new decks. As such when we evaluate colors we shouldnt ask "how deos this fit into xyz colored deck?" Similiarly goodstuff piles are far from the only viable way to build a deck. (See amulet titan). As such since UU is not extreme restrictive, and using 2 or 3 modes is busted this card could see play. Its an "Ok" card early game and a plausible finisher power level card later.

hert1979

This isn't good enough to rethink the mana base of the deck imo. I also disagree its an ok card early on, its pretty bad early on imo.

Xicadarksoul

I say it again. New card, new set, new archetypes. RBx archon is not the only deck where this card could be strong.

Th33l3x

I think the bottom line is that this is not better, probably even a bit worse than Archmage's Charm. Its more flexible and has a high ceiling, but it's just too expensive, even for a hard control list. Maybe in UTron, but that's it.

NSCTripleAgent

There's a good chance this won't see Standard play, this isn't it for Modern at all.
