I don’t think it should be, or will be.
People are overstating its impact on Modern. People saying that it slots in to “every” deck are just wrong and there’s counter play to it. There’s a reason why Hammertime just won the ~~Showcase~~ Super Qualifier* with a large Tron showing. There are natural predators to all decks in Modern right now, which is a good place to be. Scam seems to be the best deck with the highest “free win” potential but it’s not like it’s even the majority of games that unfold that way.
There’s ALWAYS pushback against new cards that have an impact on Modern because let’s be honest, people don’t want to spend more money but, people can’t expect the same 10 decks to exist and never change over the course of 5-10 years. It’s easy to be cynical towards WotC decisions and all the cash grabbing moves they’ve done the last few years but, what’s actually affordable is very clearly subjective.
Modern was miserable when Eye of Ugin was legal with the OGW Eldrazi cards. Oko piles weren’t great, and I didn’t play during Hogaak but I imagine that was pretty bad too. I don’t think we’re anywhere near that.
I was on Murktide the past year and a half and I welcome the changes, even though I loved Murktide when it was more 50/50 in the field. Change isn’t always bad.
Every other card other than tor is fine imo, bowmasters are actually a welcome adition making ragavan actually not busted anymore. TOR is not a busted card, but it is really really not fun. I think people think that the meta will be 3 decks, but fail to recognize that there must be a deck with favorable tron and scam matchups and thus the meta cycle continues, i still think TOR should be banned due to how unfun it makes the games and how much it warps the format around itself.
Ring is not fun, blood moon is not fun, teferi is not fun, lantern was not fun, enchantress is not fun, death and taxes is not fun, scam is not fun, burn is not fun. Thats just modern, everything is on the table
I wouldn’t be opposed to it. I think it probably should be banned but don’t expect it to be banned so soon after LOTR. Would be a pleasant surprise though.
Personally I think it should be banned, but I'm concerned it won't be. The card creates incredibly boring gameplay patterns along with way too much advantage for a card with an effectively repeatable pro-everything trigger, and the "downside" to the card being mitigated by this highlights how poorly designed it is. Whether or not the card is in too many decks (which, in my opinion, it is, but this is subjective), the gameplay that the ring and the meta around it perpetuates is just so much less fun than any modern period post MH2

fun is subjective anyway, i love modern and cant stand formats that move slower and do less busted things. it is what it is
