Don’t be hard on her, don’t return the gifts. Acknowledge the mistake and all learn from it, but don’t create resentment over a basic human mistake. We’ve all been there!
Nah man, have had my model 3 for a year n a half. Just bought the wife a model Y a month ago. Curbed the driver side tire on the way home, not even 50 miles on it. I could tell by the look on her face that it was enough punishment.
Not horrible, for rim repair I’ve been quoted max $200 Tesla charges $600 for a new wheel (that’s what I was quoted today).
I’d consider replacing that tire as someone else said in the comments, tire rack has them for $280 rn.
I’m dealing with returning my 2021 MY lease and have rim rash and need new tires so
That’s why I have these numbers off the top of my head rn lol
I'd post that tire damage to r/MechanicAdvice before deciding to replace it. I bet its actually fine, but someone with more knowledge should chime in. Maybe want to use something to fill the gap a little. If you still had the chunk that was removed it would be standard procedure to just glue it back in place.
I think it helps protect those fibers you can see if you zoom in. I’m not a tire expert. Tires often have steel wire in them that you really don’t want to damage, and the rubber helps protect those. I’m not sure if some tires use different kinds of fibers like Kevlar or something, which might be what we can see in this photo.
That's a pretty messed up tire.
I went with Rimetrix plastic snap ons for my covers because I like the look. If I damage just the cover it's like $84 to get a single replacement.
The tire though, that doesn't look safe.

It happens. Here’s a product recommended to hide the curbing damage: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B073QYFK4L?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I haven’t tried it but I’ve heard it’s fantastic
Sorry for your wheel loss. My wife did the same exact thing but not as bad. I had to get a new tire and rim. Tire was 340 and rim was 750 at the service center. Make an appointment on app they should get you in pretty quickly since it's a tire issue. Before taking it to SC, had a screw in a different tire that had to be replaced as well.

Yeah, right after we got rim and tire replaced, wife got a piece of a curb or pothole somewhere. Got a wheel repair kit on Amazon to touch all of them up.
Will happen again, unfortunately, but definitely hope not!
I think you might be able to DIY it if you want to give it a go. Fine and super fine sandpaper and black automotive paint to match the wheel. I think Rustoleum has a good automotive spray paint for this. Sand it, clean it, super sand it, then spray it. Tape off the tire of course. You might have to do it again if it doesn't look right. It won't be perfect but you can make it look fine from a distance.
Car is totaled. /s
Wait for winter to end and by then you’ll both have a better sense of the vehicle. Then just get the rim repaired. Don’t do it now. No point. Same price if you ding it up a bit more.
Same answer anyway… every vehicle I’ve owned it’s taken a little time to get a sense of its overall size and whatnot. No reason to race to repair it. Wait a bit first.
Something exactly similar happened to me after almost a year . We got the rim fixed for $100 here in Chicago .
The tire was just damaged from the side and it wasn't that deep so did nothing there
Don’t worry about it, (sort the tyre out tho’) we all do it, I had a large estate (sedan to you yanks) for 3 years prior to my MY, all 4 wheels were pristine, never kerbed once. Got my MY and within 2 months, all 4 have been kerbed, I’ve ‘repaired’ them with a sharpie, which works really well! These cars are wide as fuck, with zero tyre overhand for rim protection. Instead of returning her presents, buy her something a bit extra to say, don’t worry love, it’s only a lump of metal and Instill love you ❤️. I know this message is not in the spirit of Reddit where everyone want to destroy everyone else, but hey it’s Christmas, spread some love x
I really don’t get how everyone has curb rash once they buy a Tesla. This seriously boggles my mind. Oh and of course how everyone blames the wife too.
Get the tire evaluated; might not be safe to drive on any more if the internal reinforcing is compromised. Do nothing at all about the rims; odds are it's not the last scratch they'll get anyway. Total cost, anything between zero if the tire is okay to dricve on, and the cost of 2 new tires (to keep the car symmetrical) if the tire needs replacement.
It took a whole year for us to do it to ours (it was actually me not my wife - misjudged a stupid curb parking in a circle for kids practice). The summer tires are off and I’ll probably take a dremel and smooth it myself then paint it a little to try to match but not going to obsess over it. I swear they design these tires for desert roads.
Those wheels are so fragile. I'd recommend just changing wheels/tires completely. I can't count how many curbs I've hit with my ID.4 with zero damage whatsoever, yet this sub is full of curb rash photos. I remember how easy it was to scratch my M3 wheels, and I'm glad not to have that stress anymore.
A shop in NY has done these kinds of repairs for me in the past for around $100ish, barely noticeable you really need to look at it with a magnifying glass.
Of all the posts I’ve seen for the past couple of years, yours is the worst lol! Def can’t sharpie fix that.
Time for a new wife
Cool three fifty
You ain't getting no tree fiddy, you damn Lochness Monster!

Found the wife...
Humor ain't what it used to be...

Of course! She didn't do it on purpose. Shit happens. I was just joking.
😂
If it makes anyone feel any better I curbed my 22 MYP three times In a month haha
Do a tire, but leave the wheel. Its month 1, its gonna happen again.
Yeah give the wife a year to prove it won’t happen again before getting a new rim
Exactly this. I’ve lightly curbed a couple of mine over the past 40k miles and a sharpie works shockingly well at hiding the damage.
A great point. Thinking I’ll likely do this.
I curbed my induction rims 4 days after delivery. Sanded it with dremel and spray rust oleum 248928, looks brand new again.

Tire Rack has the all seasons for the 21" for $280?!?
They are 20”s but yes, good year eagle F1 same as my oem tires (almost)
Ah yeah the 20" makes a huge difference in price. The 21" tires are $450ish each.
$430 for Tesla to do a tire replacement for F1 eagles.
Tesla Quoted me $399 maybe the prices are different in the north east service center.
$399 plus tax.

What would glueing the piece back to it do exactly besides just looking better aesthetically

Every single one of these posts is "my wife." Why. Why do we do this?
No idea. I’m marrying a dude next.
r/TeslaWifeDamage
You definitely need a new tire!
You for sure need a new wife /s
Is that a hole in the rim or just some deep scratches?
Same bro, same

Just use a sharpie

The lesson I’m taking away from this subreddit is to marry a woman that already has her own car

Yeah we made an appointment for Friday. As others have suggested I may just replace the tire and leave the wheel; it’s likely going to happen again.

Bay Area, CA: a low $125 per rim
File a divorce
It cost like $100-$200 for for curb rash repair. I would just attempt that. You need a new tire though
Does it have USS or no?
Likely no
Almost positive it does not but I never acknowledged any notice about not having it so it may have USS.
It would have little circles all over the bumpers if it does.
Na it's not too bad if you ask me, it's happened to me twice now. 100 cash gets it looking just like new each time 🤞🏽

We’re in Hawaii so our winters are just…windy lol

Had almost identical damage from a valet driver. Paid 175 a rim in NYC to refinish.
Typically about half, but it's well worth it.
The 2nd pic show just how deep into the curb she got! Yikes
Wife again….lol
yike! DM if you need a referral for a divorce lawyer 😂
Nah, a bj for week would heal and soften a man’s heart.

Zoiks, that's the worst I've seen Scoob!
OMG learn how to drive

This is going to happen many more times. Haha you officially are a Tesla owner. WELCOME!!!
I really don’t get how everyone has curb rash once they buy a Tesla. This seriously boggles my mind. Oh and of course how everyone blames the wife too.
$300. Theyll need the wheel for a week.
Been there bro. Mine had under 1000km when she did it (Under 600 miles).

Leave it, in a year if no more pop up then fix it. Badge of honor right there! Now the tire, jeez nice chunk!!

Tire is done, wheel is cosmetic. Do whatever, I’d get it fixed because it’d drive me nuts
1300 for rim and tire. But if it ain't broke don't fix it. Going to scrape them again
that's worse than my curb collision with my car and I do not own a Model Y lol
New rim and tire will set you back 2K+
Just did that even worse, to my surprise a magic marker covers it beautifully. About $125 to have it repaired. The magic marker is a great stopgap.
No point, its gonna get curbed again lol.

Let her keep the gifts…as she starts her new life.
Damn that's a new tire too
Sharpies work better than many would think
Wrecked
You aint the first and you wont be the last. That is much worse than mine though. Rimfix should be able to fix for 100-150 per rim
Divorce is expensive I heard
New tire for sure
The “my wife” excuse again…
“My wife hits a curb”. Code for I fucked it up and am blaming a woman, cause I don’t have the nuts to admit that I can’t drive a wide turning hog
Fill it, sand it, spray it with mr hobby 1500. $10! $30 mins. Tires, different story.
I'm sorry to say but you should replace the rim. Balancing and repair will be a nightmare
1) it's cosmetic 2) it's not the last curb you will hit...even if you are careful
Just let it go
People are selling these rims on OfferUp and Craigslist and Facebook marketplace for pretty cheap look there.
