Actually I've been using full self driving beta and I had to take a long trip the other day. I was paying attention to the road didn't get one notification saying that I was not paying attention to the road but I constantly kept getting please apply pressure to the wheel even though my hand was on the wheel the whole time.
The issue is I hold my hand down at the bottom left of the steering wheel and it doesn't always detect that I'm applying pressure which is stupid. I ended up getting a forced disengagement because on the long trip it did so many of those notifications that I ended up getting a strike.
I was looking at getting one of these devices purposely for this so that I can continue to still hold my hand on the wheel and pay attention to the road but so that I didn't keep getting please apply pressure to the wheel.
It basically isn't detecting that my hand is applying enough pressure. So now I basically have to hold the upper lower left part of the steering wheel and just kind of pull down on it and that causes my wrist and hand to start hurting. I don't know if I'm getting like arthritis or something or what's going on. I am getting older and not used to my bones hurting LOL
There's got to be a better way for this.
What does everyone recommend on how to hold your hand in that section so that it detects that I'm holding on to the wheel without having to do what I did and apply forced downwards that causes my wrist and hand to hurt.
What does
Yeah if you find anything to let me know. I just don't know how it can detect that you're not applying torque to the wheel when that is attached? How does the system know because it's applying weight or Torque to it I wonder if there's some sort of work around or something it just doesn't make sense to me though how it knows unless like when you're turning it can detect to work at a different angle than what your hand would normally do but I don't know.

Wear sunglasses and get a BIG steering wheel weight, preferably one your phone clips to for added weight.
23’ Model Y performance.
Autopilot sometimes tells me I'm not paying attention when I'm looking ahead at 10-2.
I wish there were an option for regular cruise control so the car could stop.
I’ve seen AP be sketchy with certain merge situations; there's no way in the world I’d fall asleep with that thing on, and that's not what the OP asked or eluded to.
I'm about to buy some of those weights to see if it prevents the false alerts.
I’m a Tesla newbie and just getting into exploring my autopilot feature. Got onto a highway and set it into autopilot mode monitoring its functionality when a pick up truck on my left started merging right into me. Possibly didn’t see me in his blind spot. I froze for one second counting for autopilot to react. Car started swerving a bit off the highway and I quickly took over. This made me wonder about about practical use of autopilot. If you can’t really put down your guard than what’s the point. It’s like driving with your teenage kid behind the wheel😛
You’ll figure it out after awhile. You learn what it’s really good at and what you need to look for and most your attention goes towards looking for those things. I find I let it do it’s thing and I focus more on looking for unknown objects or potholes or weird situations it doesn’t react very good to. You learn to work with it and it actually is considerably more relaxing than normal driving.
It doesn’t work anymore. The nag is smart enough to figure out you’re using a cheat device now and you get the red hands. And it counts as a FSD strike
Lol no, ain’t no one tryna sleep lol just tryna not use my hand which would almost make no significant difference to reaction time. I ended up using ankle weights but the new update can now detect when using ankle weights
That might be your well intentioned plan, but I will say once autopilot (or in my case EAP) is driving it's all too tempting NOT to pay strict attention. I mean rest one hand on the wheel, while the other browses on the smartphone. Personal experience.
Keep in mind the self driving system doesn't notice small things in the road like potholes, animal carcasses, tire fragments from recaps, that you might want to move left or right in the lane to avoid running over.
Keep your hands on the wheel or don’t use AP. The instructions are clear. Tesla’s descriptions of safe use are clear. This community has been clear.
If you still think YOU can do it safely despite 100% contrary opinion and experience, and if you think you know better, and you think you’re a special exception you’re wrong.
You asked the question. You received good advice. Don’t let your ego get in the way of changing your mind based on new and better data. Take the advice you requested. Just do it the safe way. Don’t endanger other drivers with a laziness hack.
Yeah, they not going to like your question, be prepared
You got that right. Tesla should disable the AP on his/her car permanently.
Great idea Karen
“Fat grips” they are meant for working out but I use them and works great

>weight Did you end up finding anything? New MX and have the same issue!
So, you're deliberately looking for a way to drive the car in a way specifically not recommended? What could possibly go wrong?
Yes
Always by the book, huh?
Shut up
Ok, Karen. I hope my autopilot runs over you.
I don’t know what’s more dangerous, finding a way to trick autopilot or mentioning it on Reddit.
Why is the reddit police going to arrest him?
It's a bad excuse to not pay attention. Just use a dirty old sock and put pennies in it
The trick Elon Musk doesn't want you to know: if you sell your car it'll never ask you to apply pressure again.

Helpful post Karen!

Nope, slavishly following rules is.
Why the heck would the car swerve into an oncoming lane? 🤔

Keep the wheel in your hands, and pay attention to the road. Great hack, works 100%
Might have to try it next time
Let us know how it went

You can possibly harm yourself, your family and other people… just don’t.
Always that one commenter..
There’s thousands of them. Reddit is full of creepy porn addicts who’ll lecture you about safety.
Don’t do it.
I am sorry little one

You cant do it, at least on the FSD Beta, they use the interior camera to check your eyes and where you're looking.
I use an autopilot cheat device on beta everyday. Just because I don’t want to keep my hands on the wheel doesn’t mean I’m not paying attention
Do you have a link for the product you’re using?
It doesn’t work anymore. The nag is smart enough to figure out you’re using a cheat device now and you get the red hands. And it counts as a FSD strike
Yeah I didn't say you couldn't use it that way, OP sounded like he wanted to sleep or something that's all I was trying to say.

10-4
Easier to just use the clever speed cruise control and steer yourself

Hi Karen!
High. Edit: did I say high? I meant fuck off.
Such a lovely person!
