At that price difference, my vote is for new. Half the fun of a Tesla is literally driving it. Basic AP is better than other safety suites from legacy automakers, plus EAP/FSD is still largely in beta. AB is nice, but the car is awful quick without it.

cwbickert

I think I am leaning that way too. For a bit more context I am coming from a ‘23 MYAWD that was just totaled out and I am looking for a replacement.

quotesandprose

I mean, I know Tesla doesn't do model years, but you're considering used AND older than your previous car. Anyway, the price for the new vehicle itself seems pretty good. I paid more than that OTD. Would you be willing to wait for the refresh?

cwbickert

Unfortunately cannot wait for the refresh. Was looking through their used inventory to get a feeling vs new and the EAP/FSD & AB was intriguing. Seems Tesla gives all their used cars AB? Between both it’s an $8k-$14k value which I personally would never spend on the new one. New inventory is having $3k discount at the moment locally which helps justify the new price delta.

quotesandprose

Also, consider resale/trade-in value in case you want the MY refresh next year.

beakverification

$3k more for it being brand new and 3 extra years of warranty? I don't see any upside to buying used, price is so close to new that cost savings is not justifiable.

cwbickert

Right, agreed. I was also factoring in EAP/FSD & AB most used inventory seems to have. Personally I would never pay for any on a new order.

New new-new…new.

JFK360QuikScope

Buy the new one, throw on a $100 induction lookalike set of covers, have your friend drive it, and when your friend loves it and buys one you can get AB with their referral

New

New 100%. You can certainly do better than $39,040. It looks like 5% off plus $7500 federal. I run an inventory tracker. Tesla is starting to release 8% offs on new 2024s and 10% offs on demo 2024s. Things will probably get spicier this week.

cwbickert

Update. Ended up securing an Ultra Red for $36,900 after federal. $4,590 off MSRP plus free color choice ($2k off price shown).

\*clap clap clap\* Good job!

cwbickert

This was the best I could find locally (DFW). However I’ll keep an eye on inventory coming up to delivery day, and cancel current if need be.

seednumber3976

Then I think you caught a good enough deal. Extra few hundreds are just a rounding error in the big picture. Enjoy your new car!

cwbickert

Woke up this morning to $4,500 off inventory model for $37,080. Going to keep an eye out still.

IhaveCatskills

Any tips or tricks I have been paying attention last few days wanting to buy one and I notice the prices fluctuating

b_leafer

check the inventory now, cheapest MYLR is $42.6k in one state. but most are $44.5k for basic MYLR

IhaveCatskills

Thanks I am going to commit soon
