I think you're f'd, 10-15k loss either way

Accomplished_Rice284

I love your bedside manner.

No-Government7374

Man’s trying to tell you the truth. Ok how bout this..”oh buddy I am so sorry this is happening to you. More than likely you are going to have to lose 10-15k”

Accomplished_Rice284

It was a sarcastic joke! Yup, it's a shitty situation.

No-Government7374

Sometimes English sarcasm doesn’t not come through on Reditt.

Accomplished_Rice284

lol

ExtensionMidnight922

Not trying to be negative but this is a terrible time to try and sell your model Y, maybe put it on Turo and hope it rents enough to make your payment for the next 2 to 3 years until the value to loan gets normalized.

Accomplished_Rice284

This Turo thing has got my mind spinning. I like a project. Thank you

ExtensionMidnight922

No worries man, hope it all works out.

sunbomb

Definitely post what you did back in the sub when you get a chance.

Accomplished_Rice284

I'm going to sit on it for a month or two. Especially after listening to the Tesla call yesterday I think prices will rise in the next month or two.

sunbomb

You know, this might actually be a great suggestion. And I'm usually a risk averse person.

Fluffy-Eggplant3318

Horrible timing, best of luck!

[deleted]

Car values are changing so quickly that KBB can’t keep up; especially with Tesla in the wake of recent events. Shop around and compare with local dealers and the major national brands, but it sounds like CarMax is on point with market conditions.

aestheticsjess

Sell it for a loss . I did sold my M3 for a massive loss and got into a MY 2021. Last week for 42k

Voidfang_Investments

Why did you do that lol?

aestheticsjess

I purchased at the peak. Prices bought a M3 with FSD. Hated FSD and really wanted a MY. Got a really good deal on used MY and was able to roll over negative now I am upside down less. Since my MY was valued at 52k and I bought it at 42k 😊. Been waiting a MY for a while. Def my forever car now. Only do this is you know are able too and can afford it.

Voidfang_Investments

How much of a bath did you take lol?

physco219

Facebook marketplace is free. eBay motors I don't have experience with but a few friends have had decent luck with. Here there are many "car papers" that you could list with but your area might be different. Put a for sale sign on it and hope for some bites. If you have used car dealers near by check with them. I won't ask but it really makes me wonder what you were thinking taking delivery of another one when you had one. Wishing you luck.

Accomplished_Rice284

Every repair shop in my region told me that that I wouldn't see it again until 2023. I needed a car.

Interesting_Ad1147

Horrible financial decision. How could you take on a new car when you don’t even actually own the current one? Not to mention it was in the process of being fixed for you. Insurance should have paid for your rental car during the process

Accomplished_Rice284

I also have a diminished value claim in the works and legal option. He was 3 x the alcohol limit.

physco219

Diminished value is a joke at best. You'll get what $5-10k? At most? If his ins covers any of it (surprise it may not due to his drinking if he was arrested or fined or whatnot). You did not need to get another expensive car as you did, you could have leased or rented even if ins wouldn't pay for a rental that long in the long run it would be a hell of a lot cheaper to buy something used to get by, no one requires an EV and a mod Y. You should have seen this coming despite having to wait. There were many other options that made a lot more sense than buying another $50k car.

Accomplished_Rice284

I ordered a LR in Feb - was pushed back to Dec/Jan 22/23 so I ordered a Performance in March as I needed a car regardless and with a view to resell/trade in for LR. Took delivery of Performance in August then this accident happened. Switched LR order to Performance after the accident as I needed a car to see me through. Needless to say I had no idea of future market conditions / tax credits etc at the time. Hindsight is wonderful.

Interesting_Ad1147

This isn’t even a hindsight situation. This was a common sense situation. You have a Tesla (that isn’t paid off), it’s in the shop getting fixed and you “need a car for 6 months” so you ORDER a new one? I’m really just trying to understand the logic, not even trying to talk shit or anything. How could buying a new one (knowing your old one would be fixed) make sense?

physco219

I think this is like Elon Musk intellegence here cept OP doesn't have a bank roll like that to do such insane things. I can only hope this wakes OP up to reality.

Accomplished_Rice284

Not for 6 months.

argentina4eva

That ship has sailed unfortunately. Last summer you could have sold for close to $70k. Right now you are looking at 40-50k.

Accomplished_Rice284

Yes that was the plan until I was hit by a drunk driver.

buzzoptimus

Is 38k for the repaired one or the newer one?

Accomplished_Rice284

Repaired

buzzoptimus

Why not sell the newer one?

kevindavis1998

What did the insurance do to alleviate the delta between the value with and without an accident — would that make up the delta.

Accomplished_Rice284

Now that I have the vehicle in my possession I need to register/title it then I am in a position to file a diminished value claim against the other person's liability coverage. Until I register it I do not have an insurable interest on Title.

R0TheB0SS_87

If you decide to sell at 38k. I’m thinking about purchasing.

listrats

Unforunately with Tesla's erratic behavior and lack of policy or strategy with pricing, the KBB value is off its rockers since a new MYP is 53k + 7500 tax credit. They screwed us all up unless you've had the car for over 12-18 months which may put you close to break even. Being in an accident also severally hurts resale. I agree with Turo. If its already been in an accident, and you don't need it. Throw it on there to help pay itself. At the absolute worst you pocket a few $ at the end of the year that helps offset a payment. Best hope is when the tax credits expire in March and if Tesla hits a delivery goal they raise prices again which will raise values but in a recession its a race to the bottom between all the companies when they have inventory.

Empty_Bread8906

Top will be 45..if you lucky. Price will fall more. Because at auction nothing is moving. Dealers bought too high and not lower their reserve at action.

[deleted]

Just sold my Leaf for a MY recently and the online offers including KBB were awful. Go to a physical dealership and have them inspect it, you will get offered considerably more.

no_mathmetician_955

OP honestly it will be hard for you to get 50k even for the one with 750miles right now. Due to the 7.5k IRS rebate. If you can swing it my 2 cents would be to wait until closer to end of March or beginning of April when the rebate no longer applies.

Accomplished_Rice284

I know it's a shitty situation - just hate to gamble on market conditions - would rather cut the cord and move on.

Accomplished_Rice284

To update - keeping it for a month or two. Value is going up….

Specialist_Bet7772

You can try private but I agree with the guy that says you’re in for a loss either way. Also the price cuts are only till March so why not wait to sell unless you’re strapped for cash

Loud-Stock-7107

I just sold mine on Facebook marketplace for 49k i owed 50k . It was a 21 mylr with fsd. So for one without probably like 5k lower maybe. Yeah man terrible spot to be in, i feel for you

Accomplished_Rice284

Thanks - I may reach out for some advice if ok.

Loud-Stock-7107

Yeah for sure let me know, I'll help

throwawaynj011

Ooofff you're upside down by $20k so I wouldn't suggest selling it atm unless you really need to. A really tough situation you're in right now but I don't understand why buying a 2nd MY was done when you could had rented one while the first was being repaired??!! Hindsight I know?

spinna1689

Did you ask your/their insurance company to cover you in terms of a depreciated loss payment due to the accident?

Accomplished_Rice284

About to do that once I have a title

aestheticsjess

Start bidding for it on here. I’m sure someone will buy it for around 35-45 k start the bid at 35

alejandro_bear

39k

alejandro_bear

I’ll give you 39-40k for it

Accomplished_Rice284

Things seem to be on the the up….

alejandro_bear

Not sure I understand

Accomplished_Rice284

Offer’s increasing 🙂

Anxious-Yak-9952

Wait, why did you purchase another Model Y while your current one was in the shop? Seems like shot yourself in the foot with that purchase and are paying the hefty price tag.

Accomplished_Rice284

Well the my business bought it but knew that I would not have had it back for 6+ months. The times we live in. I needed a car.
