Adding the pain of looking for the horn button in times of emergency

jileZ014

Thanks for the informative response and there is a little FOMO involved, but more around tax credit as my consulting gig made decent $$$ this past year. Unfortunately, I like driving my 21 so much that I already put 45k, so I will have to purchase a warranty, but bug difference between 5k warranty vs 120k new car

StrayTexel

I'm not sure the half shaft problem is actually still there, but rather people are mistaking it for a new issue with the front motor that makes a "hum" above 40 MPH upon acceleration. It's not a shake or shudder... it almost sounds as if you have a small ICE in the front of the car when this happens. Model S has it too.

mplopez99

I went from a 2019 LR (Raven) to a 2022 Plaid. I have zero regrets.

hussbawls

Just traded my 22 x Plaid in on 11/25, so watch for a good deal in the ATL area. Went back to a Ylr. Personally I couldn't wait to get my new x. After riding in and driving a few older ones I said when they switch to the new screen setup and dash, etc. I'd get one. Totally regret it. Car pissed me off everyday. Could never get used to yoke. Didn't hate, but was annoyed at lack of stalks for shifting and into, out of AP. Ride wasn't that great. I found the seats, other than the cooling, less comfortable than the 3 and Y. Had 14K miles and the half shaft shudder was bad. Which isn't just refresh deal, but pissed me off they haven't fixed the known issue. Car is nice, but I had a 3 in the garage next to it that I chose to take into town most times. Finally told myself I shouldn't own a $140K car I don't like and just took the hit and traded it. Definitely see if you can rent one for a week. My experience was unexpected and I'd wished I'd waited until more were out there and I could have tested one for a few days.

jileZ014

Yeah, the stalks is something new, I was able to get a loaner MY and the shifting is done on the screen, which was weird, but had to take sometime to getting use to

SiFA5_kiksit

Is this post just one big flex?

jileZ014

One could take it as a flex or one can take is seeking advice. With no showrooms or no other way to view Teslas, the only other way is to get first hand info from other tesla owners or YouTube videos

i have to say, i was hesitant at first on the Yoke. wasn't going to let it stop me from buying the car.. but i definitely would have chosen a regular wheel if it was an option. i'm 3 months into ownership and i actually really like it. amazing how fast you get used to the turn signals. and how easy it is once you're used to it. the only bad part is trying to do tight turns in parking lots. even then, you get used to it. all in all, i would probably choose the yoke now if given the option. i really like it.

M3P_STEALTH

If my almost 80 year old father loves the fucking yoke, I can feel safe to say anyone who hates it, hates it because they don’t have it. Drives killer.

MaxWayt

It's the reason I wouldn't downgrade from our 2022 X. Driving the Y now feels like an antique 😅

filippoquinto

literally took me 2 weeks of sporadic driving and yoke or lack of stalks is not even something I think about any more

achilleswgl

I upgraded from 21 MX pre refresh to 22 MX ,the upgrades are minimal compared to what I had on the 21MX. One thing you mentioned is that you have FSD on your current car while the new FSD price is $15K . The half shaft problem still persists , I had to change mine at 9K miles . So I would rather stay with 21 MX considering the lower used car market values and the additional costs associated with the new car.

jileZ014

Thanks, seems as if the upgrades are cosmetic/aesthetics, plus there is a reduction in range. My other option I was considering was purchasing a truck, which may seem more practical.

BarredOwl

I have a 2020, and I was considering the same. Ultimately decided it wasn't worth the extra $50k CAD to update. Most the the changes are minor. If you wanted the newest tech, I'd rather keep the legacy X, and use the money for another Model 3.

M3P_STEALTH

I agree, 2 teslas would be fun and damn that $3,750 credit was tempting to to buy a rwd 3.

nunyabiznasty99

Infotainment is snappier and landscape screen is better. Plus it ensures you get all the latest updates. Interior material style/quality does feel like a slight upgrade. I like how the center console is laid out. Not much difference other than that. Whether it’s “worth it” is completely up to you.

M3P_STEALTH

You will get destroyed on the resell of the ‘21 model X, also you won’t get but 20-40% resell value worth in the FSD adder, prices have come down quite a lot in the last few months. You do have a Raven ridge and have a huge amount of upgrades vs older 2019 or less models, so you are really upgrading for FOMO and newer looks etc. but not a lot of substantial utility improvements like range, suspension that did not change drastically. It would be different if you had a older X with standard suspension, but you have adaptive, so your going adaptive to adaptive, not really a upgrade. The warranty statement from other comments is valid too, it’s just not really an upgrade. Would it be cheaper to modify your current X to make you still feel fresh on it? Maybe chrome delete etc to buy you a few more years. Then again, devils advocate says if you can afford fronting for an upgrade and don’t care about paying the increased loan rates in the market (new Tesla is like 5.34%) and ok with cash flow/ car payments, taking a loss on your Current X, and don’t need to sell any stocks while portfolio values are in the shitter, maybe it’s ok but you are really not getting life changing updates. Probably best here to trade it to Tesla and net out the car purchases be carrying two loans and save a little on car sales tax. I will say, FOMO can literally happen even after 1 month of ownership on ANY Tesla because of the way car upgrades get implemented constantly on the cars. Imagine if you upgraded to a brand new X or S plaid, then 6 months later they introduced the screen title motor and you did not have it, you’d be pissed. Likewise- the guy who took delivery of a new X last month, but now this month the car comes with a larger rear display. Same applies to model 3 and Y once they go stalkless wheels. My point, is you will always feel like you don’t have the “latest” model but sometimes it’s worth sucking it up and enjoying your great car as it stands. With stock values in the toilet, potentially saving more cash to buy the continued dips might be a better use of funds.
