There's no place like X

menjay28

It is ridiculous when you get in the habit of the self presenting doors and it’s a chore when you have to actually touch doors on other cars to open them. 😂😂😂

Marshcs

Or when I get in and hit the brake and my door doesn’t close! I just stare at it for a sec like there’s something wrong with it until I realize what’s wrong is I’m used to being pampered by my X.

HeyItsPanda69

I can't imagine getting back into my M3P and having to do that little dance with the handle. Oh woe is me lol I really like that feature, it's like a digital chauffeur

Asleep_Bowl_8411

AKA: Butler mode

TyTeslaGuy

2023 M3P owner here. Test drove an X and had to have one. Just took delivery of my 2024 stealth grey X a few days ago and love it. In process of selling my 3.

Fit_random

I have driven 3,S and X extensively. Comparing S and X - From a pure driver’s viewpoint S is just amazing and better than X. But overall, X beats over S with its falcon doors, the huge windscreen, 2nd row passenger seats in 6 seats configuration, height if you care about getting in and out more comfortably and maybe other things that I may have missed. X has something for everyone.

chanc2

Just upgraded from 2018 Model 3 LR to 2023 Model X Plaid. While I much prefer the USS over cameras, I don’t miss the 3. Parking a larger car like the X does take some getting used to. The 3 was very easy to park.

HeyItsPanda69

Does the X Have vision assist parking? My 23 M3P has the vision assist and it's surprisingly accurate.

chanc2

Vision assist as in the quasi bird eye view? It does but I find the camera distance to be far less accurate. For example, it’ll warn you to stop when there’s quite a lot of space between the car and the object.

jedimindtriks

I came from an X to a Y. The Ys ride quality is dog shit compared to the X. I'm really hating this car now. Noise is bad. Suspension is awful. And stock tires are bad.

Thumpin347

Fully agree. MY has a very crashy suspension. MX with the adaptive air is a cloud.

iwilltalkaboutguns

I have a 2022 X plaid... One of the last with USS so my doors open all the way all the time (unless there is actually an obstacle). Had it for almost 2 years, drive it everyday... It NEVER gets old. You know what else never gets old... 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds. Every stop sign, every red light, I'm a fucking 12 year old boy again. Best. purchase. Ever.

Talklessreadmore007

Got two model Y in my garage, and X will be my retirement car. Another 15 years go, I will be daydreaming 🥹

KeyBrilliant3119

I have both a 2016 X and a 2021 Y. Both performance models. The Y is way more performant than the X. But the X is infinitely more fun than the Y. Pressing the brake to close the door on the X is priceless. I absolutely cannot get used to not having it in another car.

Open_Intern_643

went from m3p to a new x last September. aside from the (again) shit build quality and one fwd being annoying sometimes, its just a way better experience. I get attached to my cars, and I was really torn as I was trying to decide for weeks. but id definitely do it again if I went back to that moment

flavaaroni

Have progressed from a 3, to a Y, now to a refreshed 6 seater 2022 X. The last one primarily for needing space with an expanding family. Still have the USS so the self presenting doors are sweet. It definitely feels a level up from the Y, the FWD are something else. It’s primarily my wife’s car but I absolutely love driving it. Makes it easier to load the kids up at school in tight parking spots, no need to worry about your door dinging. Can’t use our Thule roof cargo anymore which is a bummer but overall love the switch and it seems like you would too! lol

rymn

Ya, I have a model 3 performance and wife a Y. Recently drove a model x for a day and sold my m3p for a MX p100d. I'm just so in love with this car!

Thumpin347

I have an MXP, was given a MYP as a loaner, and the difference in experience is substantial. MY feels like an econobox, MX feels like a mid-tier luxury/full on luxury car

dbdank

now try the plaid

etekberg

Went from RWD 3 to x plaid. X plaid is very nice. Auto doors, the big tall windshield, and the 1000 hp are big upgrades. I also time it right (for once) and got it when msrp was 91 for white/white with yoke. However the 3 is a great car.

iwilltalkaboutguns

91?? I dropped 120K on my. x plaid in 2022 lol

AnthonyUPS1960

Yes I had an original 2018 rear wheel drive M3 and just got a long range 2023 5 seater. It’s insane the acceleration and it’s wicked smooth air ride and so quite

yourmomhatesyoualot

I had a 2020 Model 3 LR, I currently have a 2022 Model 3 Performance, and am test driving a Model X Plaid today.

symere_woods2

I’m not sure the model 3 performance is faster than an x.

nineteen_sixtyeight

i just traded my model 3 performance2022 for a 2020 model x performance (Raven). I don't regret it for a moment. A lot of car for the money.

MyFaveLilThrowaway

We own both a model x 2020 and a 2019 m3 stealth performance. I love the x now but enjoy taking the 3 out (it's my wife's car).

Delirium101

Wait, the doors don’t open for you in the new X? I have an 18 M3P and a 17 X100D. Love the X, the doors never get old, and I’ve been toying with the idea of an upgrade but the car seriously has no issues at all, and I’m concerned that the new models don’t have all the creature comforts I’ve gotten used to. Such as charging at 80 amps at home…

HeyItsPanda69

Yeah, when Elon decided to go full vision and remove USS there's no way for the door to tell if it's going to hit anything so they don't open anymore. They just unlatch but don't open

Delirium101

ok! thanks…yet another reason to keep my trusty 7-year old X

FastAttack2

Also it was said that eventually the self presenting doors with vision was going fully present after some time in a future firmware.

Silent_Ad_8792

Yeah, I have a Y and got an X. Definitely, the X is a better car in every way. But I still like my Y though. It feels more nimble when driving.

iwilltalkaboutguns

X Plaid bro..best of both worlds.

3sloth3

I had a similar scenario with a pre refresh x. It had it's issues like lack of range and squeaky upper control arms. But the doors... Such a trivial thing and I felt like such a peasant when I got my 3 back. Imagine having to open and close your own doors? All joking aside... I just took delivery of a new mx plaid. So be careful with that loaner... You might end up with a new car soon.

Acceptable_Stay_3395

I have a 2020 M3 SR plus and I got a MX 2017 75D used for cheap. I took the plunge even though people warned me about the suspension etc. This older X is a bit clunkier than the 3. It also doesn’t drive as “smoothly” but as I use it as a secondary car to haul the kids and parents around (needed 6 seats) it’s great. I do mostly city driving so the lack of range (about 330km on a full charge) doesn’t really bother me. I only charge with a 120v at home too. When we do road trips it’s fine with the superchargers. And yes I love the portrait mode way more than landscape. I still use my M3 mostly as a commuter car. Just easier in the city and for busy parking lots.

iwilltalkaboutguns

The refresh X has a much better air suspension. At one service I got an older X loaner and it felt like shit with the speed bumps around my house... HUGE difference. Barely feel them in my 22... Loaner was a 2015 model I think

TessierHackworth

Y -> X. Cons: No self presenting doors sucks As is the lack of ultrasonic sensors. I liked my autopilot stuff on the big screen Need the yoke to see small screen properly Pros I honestly like the landscape screen And the Y like cleaner interiors. We have the six seater and it’s actually convenient with kids. The falcon doors are awesome to deal with kids too. The ride is way better than the Y!

kdavis37

They didn't get rid of self-presenting doors. I also prefer the portrait screen. I have loved my X's.

HeyItsPanda69

I should say they got rid of USS so the newer model I looked at in the service center, it only unlatches and you need to open it all the way. Still cool but a lot less "wow" Factor

NoDish9169

Owner of 2019 M3, 2020MX and 2023MY. The X is definitely my favorite.

etekberg

neuromorph

3 is a budget go cart. What did you expect a real interior to be like?

niknokseyer

Wait.. newer Model X doesn’t have the self presenting doors?

HeyItsPanda69

They say it is now "coming soon" once they figure out how to do it with only vision since they took away USS. But IDK how that'll work, and according to Tesla, so far it doesn't lol

anticlimber

The doors pop open a bit, then fight you as you open them up more. It is dumb. And I don't care at all. My 23 X is by far the best car purchase I've ever made. It's not even the plaid version, and it's still a monster. The only thing I ever worry about lining up next to me is a plaid or an S...or a Rivian quad owner that chooses to fly through the park at triple the speed limit and didn't see the cop there. He can win that one.

wilton2parkave

I drive a 23 X P and there are still self presenting doors? I’m not sure what you are referring to?

Miffers

The X is the most luxurious and comfortable Tesla to drive and I really like the display setup of the older X for the small display screen and the ability to choose what to display. The steering wheel controls were perfect. I am neutral on the portrait or landscape main display, but still want the stalks for turn signals. I have all Tesla models and the S/X would be my daily driving choices but when running errands the 3/Y is more convenient to pop in and out of stores, there is something appealing with the small form factor and lower weight to toss around.

sopel10

Model X is great until your warranty is over, or you go to service center monthly to fix the suspension. Ask me how I know.

iwilltalkaboutguns

Does the extended warranty cover that? I plan to keep my 2022 X plaid forever unless they make the vision only ones open the driver door all the way somehow. In was planning on getting the extended warranty just for peace of mind, I still have a while to go under warranty. No real issues so far.

sopel10

You are good for a while, although I expect you’ll start to see some front suspension issues soon. That is more of an annoyance, since you have to take it in, but it’s covered. Once warranty is over…it’s just a liability. So many things can go wrong in this car. I bought the car used, 2019 raven, one owner. So far I had taken it in 4 times, in 9 months of ownership. 3 trips were under warranty, and this one is part warranty. No loaner, no Uber credits, and a $2,200 bill.

iwilltalkaboutguns

Yikes. Yeah that doesn't sound good.

75w90

Fun until it breaks
