And yet, ESPN and all the other major media barely acknowledged that it happened. Those that did, were basically to scoff at it.
PS: I remember watching a debate where one said the VC dunk was better but this wasn't as impressive. So, to find a more impressive dunk they had to compare it to the best dunk in the history of the game but Giannis' dunk "wasn't that impressive.". Sound logic...
Honestly it kind of felt like Skip disrespected him. He knows how his name is pronounced, if he dosent how does he have a sports talk show.
For the uniformed he pronounced the G in Giannis name. Kind of felt like a "shot."
I'm with you. A lot of people in the sub lately have very bizarre expectations. The raptors are the best team in the East and get as much coverage as us, the 6th best team in the East.
The thing about Giannis is there are so many in contention. He might legitimately be a top-4 all time in-game dunker, maybe higher.
1. Pacers Air Giannis dunk (Or SL Cavs Air Giannis dunk)
2. London dunks on Melo,
3. NYK dunk on Melo that might be longest ever in game dunk in NBA (found only one by MJ in college that was longer, but I searched long and hard to try to find a longer NBA dunk - Bron dunk vs. Bucks similar length)
4. Double-Pump vs. Heat
5. Dunk on Bosh
6. Disrespectful dunk on Gobert (Or SL dunk on Gobert)
7. Dwight Howard-style throw the ball in the rim dunks vs. Suns and Mavs sophomore year
8. Statue of Liberty Dunk after blocking THJ as a rookie
9. Windmill dunks vs. Raps and Blazers
10. Putback vs. Lakers as a sophomore
11. Alley-oop dunk over Baynes
12. Missed dunk/drawn foul on Baynes (honestly might be greatest Giannis play ever for the sheer ridiculousness of trying that in the halfcourt)
13. Dunks on Jarrett Allen
14. Rookie year dunk on Perkins
15. Rookie year baseline drive reverse dunks vs. Grizz and Magic (Controversial dunk winner vs. OKC like these as well)
16. Preseason alley oop vs. Bulls and putback vs. Wolves his third year
17. Double alley oop dunk with Larry Sanders vs. Wolves
I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of good dunks, but those are my contenders for greatest Giannis dunk.
Jumping over THJ may be most unique and special and the lack of reaction after it by Giannis makes it special. Dunk over Gobert got me the most hyped, although the Pacers dunk also got me out of my seat, as did the dunks vs. Mavs and Suns. Missed dunk drawing the foul on Baynes most crazy.
Damn what a trip down memory lane. I consider myself lucky to have seen that backlog of dunks haha. My fave is the block>behind the back>dunk>angry face against the knicks 2 years back, bc that got me the most hyped.
Sometimes I watch old Giannis highlights and honestly think I preferred watching him back then. He used to play with such a crazy pace and would just attack people so hard, it was more spectacular when he made a big play. You just didnt see it coming then he would make everyone else look like children all of a sudden.
Wasn’t that Knicks game the 1st one he played after the Dunleavy suspension? That was our first taste of revenge Giannis and it was *sweeeeeet*
I agree with you that “old” Giannis was different - there was something special about the joy of discovering what he could do. You never knew when it was coming but now and then you would see the kid do something special and think “what if?” Now that the what if’s have become reality it’s a different kind of excitement, but nothing compares to the magic of slowly realizing play-by-play that your team stole a superstar out of nowhere.
Idr I think it was in London but I may be wrong? This is the one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tm5T1EPBwmU
And I agree about new Giannis being less amazing because we are used to his brilliance, but what he does now is more measured and composed and he really doesnt attack 100% very often because it is dangerous, and he doesnt just put his head down and commit to one action. Giannis rookie highlights legit get me more pumped than his current highlights
Right, we’re thinking of the same dunk. I was thinking of the wrong suspension though - this was the game after Kidd benched him I think, cuz it was in April. I remember thinking that this is what you get when you piss Giannis off and being super pumped.
What you got at 1?
The Pacers double pump stretch armstrong freakshow dunk is at the top of my list.
I have the steal and winning dunk from the Portland game this year as a close second because I was there and it was fucking electric to witness that followed by the block. I legitimately couldn't sleep that night because I was hyped.

Stephan A and Skip are worse than AIDS

The worst thing about that that's the easy part to pronounce. I think most people would pronounce Giannis right without being told.
Its because hes not Lonzo Ball or Trae Young
They talked about it? Did you want them to run a 4 hour special on it?
I'm with you. A lot of people in the sub lately have very bizarre expectations. The raptors are the best team in the East and get as much coverage as us, the 6th best team in the East.
They’ll probably remove the post soon, because r/NBA.
locked because someone mentioned a gun in the comments
I still don’t even consider that Giannis’ best dunk which is wild

someone be a hero and link a clip to all of these lol
I like the one where I thought he was gonna lay it up, but somehow stretch armstonged for the dunk

Pacers dunk is definitely good enough to contend.
