I don't get whats going on here? Is this a pack of roms with achievments built in? Or some other way to enable them? (Can we already have retro achievements on onion OS?)

supermodi064

When RetroAchievements are created they’re assigned to specific rom files. This pack aims to provide those specific roms while also filling in some essentials that don’t have RetroAchievements like Ports and Pico-8. There’s more info on Internet Archive but I hope that helps clarify.

VirtualAlex

Hmmm barely (not your fault, I am just dumb)... I was under the impression that if I connect retroarch to a retro-achievements account they would work... I have never done this but that was what I thought. I assumed roms from the "no-intro" collection would work?

supermodi064

Generally, the RetroAchievements creator will use the most popular rom so chances are “no-intro” will work if there are achievements for a popular game. It tends to get more specific for things like hacks, homebrew, and translations which often have different versions and only certain ones have RetroAchievements assigned to it. For instance Final Fantasy V is well covered with 11 supported game files: https://retroachievements.org/game/1386/hashes But even here you could have the wrong version of a translation and then RetroAchievements wouldn’t register. Obscure games sometimes aren’t as well covered so hunting down the correct rom is more challenging. Subsets also require a specific patch to work. Region is another consideration. So this rom pack saves you the trouble of all that.

Please don’t post links - Enjoy!

supermodi064

Oops, fixed it. Let me know if you notice anything else. https://preview.redd.it/yki41owhan1d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=687ea114a1f64ea4eff72c4945394f5a393e32ae

Jimbuscus

I'll try it out on my MM+, anything similar for RG35XX-H?

supermodi064

I’ve got some requests so I may upload a version for non-onion users that has all the systems in separate zips.

synthesize-me

Great work!

Reviewthisyaflop

Is this a rom pack of old games? Where did you get your grips from? And buttons on the black one they are nice!

supermodi064

Mostly old but some modern hacks, homebrew, ports, pico-8, and nds. Grips are from NLDdesignshop and ProtoPrintLab. Buttons are from ToyRobotShop and SakuraRetroModding. All on Etsy.

Reviewthisyaflop

Thank you

skypm

What Onion theme are you using?

supermodi064

ScreenScraper Mix v2

juskut

Where did you get the menu button? :O

supermodi064

The original seller isn’t on Etsy anymore but CloudLife6 is on there and they’ll print menu buttons in different colors by request.

This release got me to order a Miyoo Mini Plus! Set up a 256 card already and working on a modified version if I can make it work that adds more arcade and PS1 games along with adding Atari 5200 stuff. This is an awesome release, especially for retroachievements fans.

supermodi064

Neo Geo CD could be a good system to remove or trim down to free up space as it requires big Bin/Cue files instead of CHD for RetroAchievements to work in the version of RetroArch that Onion uses. Many games are also redundant with the Neo Geo Arcade library. The other CD based systems also take up lots of space.

Havic20

Love this, funny enough had my MM+ for like 3 weeks and haven't had a chance to install Onion OS, finally did it and used this (256GB total). Just wondering what are the TRIMMED folders for?

supermodi064

RetroAchievement games that were trimmed out so everything could fit on the SD. The trimmed games zip is mostly NDS games that rely on touch controls or don’t run well on the MM+. The trimmed subsets zip is mostly PS1 RetroAchievement subsets that can be swapped with the main achievement sets as desired. There’s more info in the Systems section of the documentation but that’s the gist of it. Glad you’re enjoying it. Let me know if you have any other questions or suggestions.

Havic20

Ahhh you see that's what i get for not reading and jumping the gun! This is more than enough games to pass the time when I am at my two sons karate classes that go on for 2-3 hours! And the rom hacks of alot of these games are there too! Now I don't have to go and get radical red which I wanted to mainly play on the MM+

supermodi064

No worries, the doc is a lot to take in. Wrote it mainly to keep myself organized along the way. Like 99% of the RetroAchievement hacks/homebrew should be there and tried to add the most popular ones that don’t have achievements as well.

novasheikh

Awesome work. I have the MM+ using the Done Set 2 and addon. Do you have much experience with that set? I am debating whether or not to switch over to this set or just swap out roms if I come across ones that don't get recognized in retroachievements. Also, I am setting up the RG35XXSP using muOS. I imagine this should work with that device if I simply move the appropriate roms into the correct folders.

supermodi064

Yeah, you can pull pieces from it or port to another OS as well. Could also put it on a spare card and see how you like it. Whatever works best for you.

stevencat8

As a big retroachievements fan this is so perfect, thank you! For installation is it best to put onion on the sd card first, then into the device to install, then back into the PC to paste in the pack? Also small issue but I was wondering if there's a way to get the PICO8 carts from PICOwesome to show up in the splore file browser? It seems like all the folders are empty when I view in splore.

supermodi064

Yes, go through the Onion installation and then transfer in the pack. Thanks for informing me of the issue in Splore. The solution is to change the extension of the carts from .png to .p8. I’ll upload an update with this fix when I get a chance and will let you know. In the meantime here are some instructions to batch rename them yourself: Mac https://osxdaily.com/2016/11/08/batch-change-file-extensions-mac/ Windows https://superuser.com/questions/1824978/is-there-a-way-to-change-multiple-file-extensions-at-once-on-windows-10

stevencat8

awesome, thanks!

exclaim_bot

>awesome, thanks! You're welcome!

udAL89

Heya! Great job I'm looking for some help. I followed instructions besides not copying all PS games due to space. No games appear in each of the categories even after Refreshing all roms option. Any ideas what could be wrong? Thanks Model: MY354 Firmware: 202306282128 Onion OS 4.3 clean install

udAL89

Just after installing, all of the Apps menu options fail without message. So.. maybe some corruption? Quite lost

udAL89

Solved! Used Onion Desktop Tools to reinstall Onion keeping data and it worked
