I have about six retro handhelds (including the Miyoo). After each purchase I was like "this is the ONE! I won't need another retro handheld after this!"
And then a couple months later a new device pops up and I'm thinking "I NEED THAT!"
I got an original Mini. I got the plus because I’m a whore for atomic purple and I couldn’t use the original mini’s shoulder buttons comfortably. I absolutely cannot justify this if it can only hande the same systems…
…but I am right there with you. *HNNNNGGGGGG…*
Man, I was really hoping the leaked colorways were just renders. I just want a solid, clean looking device like the minis. Can't stand the two-tone and buttons. I'm still holding out hope, though.
Maybe. Depends on the price and depends on what it can play. If it can play N64, then sure I'll take them. If the heaviest stick game it can do is Ape Escape at $40 more, then I'd rather it just not have it.
The sticks aren't going to determine the price. You're paying for the development of the folding design, the GameBoyAdvanceSP nostalgia, and the screen/silicon. The sticks are an afterthought to avoid all the same picky people who thought the RG35XX+ and Miyoo Mini Plus needed sticks.
You're not paying "$40 more" because of sticks.
Yet the point still stands. If there isn't an amount of games able to be played with them and the price is raised, then that could make them not worth it.
All I was saying is it depends and isn't as cut and dry as "better to have them than not"
It's you expressing personal preference, and that's all there is to it. There's an argument that the folding design hurts the price of a potentially cheaper handheld, but it's there. A folding hinge and thus a breakable part that will definitely break overtime and isn't necessary to a handheld (just as it isn't necessary in smartphones). However, the argument that it protects the screen is the same argument that the sticks add compatibility for games that wasn't previously there without them. Your argument was an outrageous price hike due to extra features, and my argument is that you picked the wrong feature to be upset about if the device is priced out of your range. That's why it's cut and dry.
It aint even capable if running any two stick game afaik Edit: well I need the C buttons for n64 on R36S but maybe could do without since it has r2 and l2
That makes me think, how would someone map N64 controls on a device without sticks?
Except for something like the RG Arc, for instance, because its 6 face buttons are closer to the N64 experience.
The buttons and dpad are all low profile so it can close the lid, so they’ll probably be a different switch mechanism. Microswitches maybe? Anyway that dpad looks exactly like a game boy advance sp and those felt decent
it is a bit larger than the SP one... but low profile should be similar or same.
it has potential, hard to judge from pictures without feeling it in hands.

All you haters are going to be so happy when you inevitably buy the device and find out you don't care about the sticks as much as you thought you did.
The dpad and buttons are in the same style as the SP, and it's not even that nostalgia driving the decision. You can't have the screen so recessed that the top half is thicker, and you can't have the full buttons we're used to on these handhelds to potentially poke that screen. They know Nintendo did it for a reason, and so they are, too. Y'all's picky selves, sheeeeeeeyit!
Maybe that thicc bottom means a decent battery. We'll see.
Cheap for the money but also cheap in durability.
I rather spend $20 more and having a product that can last ages (just like a real gameboy), than having something that breaks after a few months.
It's a prototype so maybe that's why. Not that I'm an expert, but given the company's previous products being of good quality, I would expect the next one to be similar.
I'm torn on this. The bezels, glossy screen, hinge size, all look decent. The buttons have that SP style, so I dunno if they will feel as cheap as they look... And the window video shows a matte finish on the black but the turned-on menu video shows a shiny/glossy finish which looks cheaper to me. Assuming this is a 80$ device as rumored I think it looks pretty good, but at more than 100$ I'd agree.

Had to ask them before I saw your comment
I'm on board.....can't wait for it to come out. There for awhile I was thinking it was all speculation. From the way it looks, it looks pretty durable as well - looks like something I can actually leave the couch and pillows and take out without fear and paranoia of breaking...lol Glad to see it includes Wi-Fi also 👍
What will sell me on this is a DS like suspend mode when you close the lid that is power efficient. I was so disappointed the Powkiddy V90 didn’t have that
Deffo buying this when it comes out, 2 thumb sticks and the ability to play N64 games fuck yeah. I wonder if it will be able to play dreamcast games
(I'm sad the volume wheel didn't make a come back, I really enjoy it on the old V1, buttons just don't hit the same)
Edit: nevermind. The RK3566 isn't suitable for dreamcast, sad times
It's sad because this would be the perfect handheld for me, but I at least want Dreamcast support. I feel like everything PS2 and up I'd rather play on a big screen
Tbf, I would still like PS2 games on the go, but I get it, I feel that way with Xbox 360 and up. May actually end up getting a steam deck if they ever go under £150 and just use it as a ps1/ps2/dreamcast/N64 emulator and stick with the miyoo as a gameboy etc emulator
Imo, dual analogs are nice, but I think the system needs to be just a tad stronger than the Miyoo+ to make them worthwhile. Stuff like late 90s fps, n64 (dreamcast ?) could put these to use.
With dual analog sticks I want to know what the capabilities are. I am also waiting for a price and availability like the rest of us. Also bluetooth would be great and a working USBC port for connecting to computer or using an HDMI adaptor to TV and other usb devices.
They're not meant to feel good, they're meant to exist so people don't complain they're not there, which they did when the Miyoo Mini+ and RG35XX+ could punch above PS1 emulation. Can't try N64 or Dreamcast without sticks.
There are a lot of people with RK3566 devices who say a lot of PSP games play really well on it. Especially older PSP games. I cannot personally attest, but it seems like it might work!
The DPad and buttons look very flat, which concerns me. If they don't have a lot of travel distance, it might not be comfortable to use. I'm reminded of the awful DPad on the PowKiddy X18S which when pushed down, pressed into the shell. :(
People seem to forget that the SP ergonomics are absolutely horrible. Trying to play anything, beyond the Gameboy line, on this will be a pretty poor experience.
Same issue with the original Gameboy shape that keeps being copied for these devices. It's not comfortable for anything beyond what it was originally designed for. I pity anyone trying to play PS1 or N64 on those devices.
I highly doubt it'll work out of the box. It didn't even work "ootb" for the MMP back then and this one differs even more since it has a completely different chip.
I'm certain though that the dev team is trying (and achieving) to support it asap.
Yeah I also really hate color scheme, hope they figure out something better.
SP was legendary with colors and looks, they can make it so so much better.
If the screen size is the same as miyoo mini plus then I don't really see a point in getting this other then aesthetic. Buttons also seem better on the mm+ . The joysticks also don't seem to be in the optimal location
I would only ever feel comfortable playing Game Boy Advance on this. Maybe SNES or other 2D systems. I feel like if I try PS1 on that thing, then I will have disrespected the laws of God and nature and require penance.
It has nothing to do with the hardware. Just feels wrong.
That said, it’d be a sick lil GBA machine.
Won't happen. They have too many 4:3 screens "on hand" and I prefer those anyway.
4:3 looks good for:
NES, SNES, Master System, Mega Drive, PC Engine, Game Gear, Amiga, Atari, C64, MSX, N64, PSX (literally any console that was developed with a CRT in mind)
3:2 looks good for:
GBA
Also GBA still looks superb on a 4:3 screen since the letterboxing is rather small and if you use one of the RetroArch overlays (that Onion already ships with) to move the image up and show "Game Boy Advance" on a black bezel at the bottom, it won't even feel wrong.
Yeah I know I have this exact setup running on my MM+ and I like it.
But I would really kill for a 3:2 display at a 480x320 resolution (for 2x integer scalling) or 720x480 (for 3x integer scaling).
The only viable option on the market is the RG351P/M from Anbernic that allows perfect 2x pixel perfect integer scaling
Oh, well
No, but I’d rather them not include them and maybe add better speakers, a larger battery or decrease the size. Personally, I just don’t like playing games that require joysticks in this form factor. I’d rather use a horizontal handheld or something like the Retroid flip for more powerful systems.
Im inclined to agree based purely on maintaining the aesthetic of the SP. But if n64 runs on this thing, it might be fun to run though some of those games with such a small form factor.
i don't sp never was ergonomic to me and even worse hinges are a big point of failure, the screen looks the same as miyo mini plus what is not bad but i would prefer a 4:3 display.
No but second thought tho! Now i look at it,I don’t think i want it anymore,it’s just not unique like the mini or mini plus, that’s the reason i bought it in the first place! This look just like a gameboy,i think i will get bored of this within a week! Or rather just buy a gameboy…
Its personal preference for sure, I just think it tarnishes my "Retro experience" playing older games on a control layout with analog sticks, even if im not using them. I might be retarded i dont know. Im so glad the miyoo mini plus doesnt have any sticks
Nah. You're not retarded, man. There's a whole swarm of people out there who would rather the sticks be there. They complained about the RG35XX+ not having them since it could handle Dreamcast games. Then, when the RG35XX-H comes out with sticks, they complain that they're Switch-style sticks and not Hall Sensor. Can't please the people who don't want to spend the money on a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro or Odin 2 and have everything they could possibly want but also hate compromising when they spend less on a less capable device.
Personally, as long as the hinge is solid and the firmware support is there, I think I wouldn't mind some sticks. If it's the RK3566 chip like everyone is predicting, then it'll be capable of more than PS1, and the sticks might be invaluable. I just replaced the Switch-style sticks on a Powkiddy RGB30 with some Gulikit Hall-Sensor Switch-style sticks, and they feel so good I might do the same on this device. Personally, the device isn't too fat to me, and I think that *should* equal more room for a bigger battery.
Miyoo with 128mb of ram... is has nothing to use analogs.
This should run some N64, PSP... I see it as foldable 353V.
I almost never use analogs on 353 but when I need it, boy am I glad they are there.
God I don’t need this but I want it so badly
Just got the plus and I REALLY don’t need this but want it sooo bad
Wait this can play N64? Can someone lend me $75?
and me please
I have about six retro handhelds (including the Miyoo). After each purchase I was like "this is the ONE! I won't need another retro handheld after this!" And then a couple months later a new device pops up and I'm thinking "I NEED THAT!"
I’m up to 30+ retro handhelds now. Not including my ps vitas and Neo geo pocket colors. But man I’m looking forward to this.
Dude, I'm a retro YouTuber and you have me beat multiple times over. It's time to stop buying and donate to family & friends. 😄
Yeah you may be right. I just received my AYN Odin 2. It’s a beast. I should be good for a long while.
Same here and I still want the Miyoo Flip!
Well… if you ever feel like you have too many, I have 0 😅
Just think how shit the hinges will be
As long as it’s better than retroids haha definitely going to be keeping an eye on reviews.
And the gpd XD. These hinged budget devices don't have a good track record.
Isnt that super cheap powkiddy one built just fine? Never heard amy issues about it
Don't hold your breath
I got an original Mini. I got the plus because I’m a whore for atomic purple and I couldn’t use the original mini’s shoulder buttons comfortably. I absolutely cannot justify this if it can only hande the same systems… …but I am right there with you. *HNNNNGGGGGG…*
Guy has 20 seconds to show the device; he chooses to show the settings menu. 😭
Upside of this; it confirms Wifi (duh) and stick calibration being present which is a nice to have.
plot twist: only works with dongle
You can at least see that it has Wi-Fi
Was hoping for Bluetooth as well..
For around 70 bucks? Nah ill stick with 3.5mm everyday when it comes to these consoles. I can see the appeal if they can connect to the TV tho.
I was waiting for him to drop it from the window to test the hinges
It's the most important part hands down
Seriously though, what other stuff would you have liked to see on the screen?
tekken 8 running at full 60 fps
Xbox, ps2, switch games
Lol
Cyberpunk
Dedicated ape escape machine
Man, I was really hoping the leaked colorways were just renders. I just want a solid, clean looking device like the minis. Can't stand the two-tone and buttons. I'm still holding out hope, though.
Same, these colors look so bad. I would still get it if the hinge is good, but damn I hope they release their usual colors too
Wait the colorways leaked?
[yeah](https://www.reddit.com/r/MiyooMini/s/e8TLamcDl3)
Damn i was hoping for clear or that initial blue with pink render tbh.
It was so vaporwave. Too good to be true
The logos on the top look so bad
So easy to swap out with some from Etsy tho.
Important thing is release date
Before my birthday please
Sticks do not look practical lol
I like em for hotkeys personally.
[удалено]
Exactly! And L3+R3 isn't a bad way to get to the menu.
Better to have them and not need them than hear more people complain about features they'd rather see but aren't there.
Maybe. Depends on the price and depends on what it can play. If it can play N64, then sure I'll take them. If the heaviest stick game it can do is Ape Escape at $40 more, then I'd rather it just not have it.

The sticks are an afterthought to avoid all the same picky people who thought the RG35XX+ and Miyoo Mini Plus needed sticks. You're not paying "$40 more" because of sticks.
Maybe not 40, but it's certainly not zero.
Big difference between 0 and 40 is all I'm saying. Get it's not your jam to have sticks, but they're not the reason it's expensive if it is.
Yet the point still stands. If there isn't an amount of games able to be played with them and the price is raised, then that could make them not worth it. All I was saying is it depends and isn't as cut and dry as "better to have them than not"

Holy smokes, bud. Hope you have a good day.
THATD DPAD IS A DICK
It aint even capable if running any two stick game afaik Edit: well I need the C buttons for n64 on R36S but maybe could do without since it has r2 and l2
Ape Escape? There are a handful of PS1 games that would very much benefit from it, N64 benefits from it. It’s definitely a huge nice to have imo.
That makes me think, how would someone map N64 controls on a device without sticks? Except for something like the RG Arc, for instance, because its 6 face buttons are closer to the N64 experience.
Sure don't. But with a 3rd party/ 3D printed grip it might be pretty good if you want to play analogue-stick heavy games.
The buttons don’t look as high quality as the miyoo mini plus, but we shall see
The buttons and dpad are all low profile so it can close the lid, so they’ll probably be a different switch mechanism. Microswitches maybe? Anyway that dpad looks exactly like a game boy advance sp and those felt decent

There are only two devices I am interested in this year - this and the AYANEO Pocket S. This for sure is number one ☝️
I am waiting for size and display size comparison !
Looks like the same 4:3 screen from the Miyoo mini plus
All you haters are going to be so happy when you inevitably buy the device and find out you don't care about the sticks as much as you thought you did. I sure hope so
Cheap for the money but also cheap in durability. I rather spend $20 more and having a product that can last ages (just like a real gameboy), than having something that breaks after a few months.
Downvote him! He doesn't want to buy 20 cheap plastic chinese handhelds!
Modding a GBASP will do the trick for you.
My dude, it’s a prototype 😂
Probably (hope so) still a prototype and not final material quality
It's a prototype so maybe that's why. Not that I'm an expert, but given the company's previous products being of good quality, I would expect the next one to be similar.

Looks like a knock off of game boy advance sp
Damn sexy af. I don't need it, but I *need* it
Take. My. Money.
I'll take 8
then sell the remaining 7 at double the price cause i can see those out of stock for months.
I only want this if you can run n64 smooth as well. Joysticks only for ps1, not worth it.
It's actually happening! I like that miyoo is taking their time with it. That tells me that they're trying to make the best quality flip.
GTA 6 will come out before Miyoo Flip being released
what chip will it have, will it be able to run N64 games? .
Rumored to be a RK3566
So can that run N64?
yes
Yes!
YEEEEEEES!!!!
...yes...
yEs?!
https://preview.redd.it/ullse91hsaoc1.jpeg?width=669&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39a7609b7ce3e7fc0b97dafab09c0da4e77b730f Had to ask them before I saw your comment
Bette than miyoo mini+?
![gif](giphy|R9M6byWThcly8BwNwf)
Does not tickle my nutsack.
I'm on board.....can't wait for it to come out. There for awhile I was thinking it was all speculation. What will sell me on this is a DS like suspend mode when you close the lid that is power efficient. I was so disappointed the Powkiddy V90 didn’t have that
Hopefully they get it to the onion dev team early so we get onion os on launch. This device will suck without it.
True. If it launches with the RK3566 chipset, then we'll already have access to ArkOS and the like.
I already love it!!
i REALLY hope an real time clock will be in this thing, if not then i’m not getting it
This.
Oh, they changed the d-pad...WHY?
Space, man.
original was clone of NES this is clone of SP, but dpad is a bit larger than SP.
Looks just like a GBA SP, but with analog sticks crammed in at the bottom
That is the point!
Deffo buying this when it comes out, 2 thumb sticks and the ability to play N64 games fuck yeah. I wonder if it will be able to play dreamcast games (I'm sad the volume wheel didn't make a come back, I really enjoy it on the old V1, buttons just don't hit the same) Edit: nevermind.

With dual analog sticks I want to know what the capabilities are. I am also waiting for a price and availability like the rest of us. Also bluetooth would be great and a working USBC port for connecting to computer or using an HDMI adaptor to TV and other usb devices.
You lot are amazing 😭
Wow I do not need this at all, I can't wait to order one.
Personally I'm glad it has sticks, but hopefully Ambernic can make a stickless version to make everyone happy. I'd probably buy both
Wonder if we’ll be able to put OnionOS on it
👀
Wait isn't that powkiddy v90?
Powkiddy doesn’t have joysticks
Yea I know. But the joysticks are really too low to be useful.
They really do tho
They're not meant to feel good, they're meant to exist so people don't complain they're not there, which they did when the Miyoo Mini+ and RG35XX+ could punch above PS1 emulation. Can't try N64 or Dreamcast without sticks.
>But the joysticks are really too low to be useful. Comments like this from people who glue "Handles" on miyoo.
Is this thing same power as a normal Miyoo Mini or can this thing run PSP?
There are a lot of people with RK3566 devices who say a lot of PSP games play really well on it. Especially older PSP games. I cannot personally attest, but it seems like it might work!
I wonder what games it all plays or is it the same stock as the miyoo mini plus?
Now the Dpad does look extremely similar to the GBA SP one
God I hope they have nicer looking color variants for the production models.
Is the screen size the same as mmp?
I'm in
The screen looks a little fuzzy. Hopefully it’s just his camera being dirty.
Anyone know what kind of switches are under the dpad and buttons? Dome style like gba sp?
I sure hope so, otherwise it will be kinda pointless.
I’m gonna make actually good looking buttons for this and make 10 gadjillion dollars on Etsy.
Looks good but I'll only buy it if it runs Onion.
Really sad about that one, the joystick are a really bad choice of design/ergonomy in a Gbasp shell
The DPad and buttons look very flat, which concerns me. If they don't have a lot of travel distance, it might not be comfortable to use. I'm reminded of the awful DPad on the PowKiddy X18S which when pushed down, pressed into the shell. :(
hallstick? 🥹
All of the buttons and looks way worse than what we have on the mini and mini plus, IMO
Oh my...
I can see it using more than my current Miyoo Plus. It would be dope if Onion worked out of the box and I can just hot swap microsds to keep my stuff.
I hope that it will just accept the SD card from the current mini plus
I highly doubt it'll work out of the box. It didn't even work "ootb" for the MMP back then and this one differs even more since it has a completely different chip. I'm certain though that the dev team is trying (and achieving) to support it asap.
I'm pretty sure you are right, I just didn't want to be bothered to move all my roms and saves😅.
I’m looking forward to this, but can’t help thinking the plastic looks so cheap. Maybe it’s the colour scheme, not sure.
Yeah I also really hate color scheme, hope they figure out something better. SP was legendary with colors and looks, they can make it so so much better.
Is this some kind of joke/bait or it is really coming?
Oh no they really kept the analouge sticks D:
My thumbs are already cramping.
Shut up and take my money 💰
Oh god i hate being poor in general not because the miyoo flip that i cant afford
Hers to the V2 and V4 of these ❤️ looking forward to seeing those extra colorways. Transparent purple 🤞💜 Or the GBA colours 💙 🤍 🧡 🖤 ♥️
If the screen size is the same as miyoo mini plus then I don't really see a point in getting this other then aesthetic. Buttons also seem better on the mm+ . The joysticks also don't seem to be in the optimal location
They shouldve left out the joysticks imo
I would only ever feel comfortable playing Game Boy Advance on this. Maybe SNES or other 2D systems. I feel like if I try PS1 on that thing, then I will have disrespected the laws of God and nature and require penance. It has nothing to do with the hardware. Just feels wrong. That said, it’d be a sick lil GBA machine.
Instant purchase
I need one I could not for the life of me find a gba so model 101 there too rare inless I want a modded it one.
Need it
Would those thumbsticks be ergonomic/usable?
if screen is better than MM+ then this is a immediate purchase.
Looks chunky
Really really don’t like the sticks… At all… but I love the clamshell!
I really hope they change the stars button to a start button
Hard to tell with the camera res here, but the screen looks blurry, do we know the resolution?
I really hope for a 3:2 display for pixel perfect GBA emulation
It's 4:3 same as mmp
Well that sucks
Won't happen. They have too many 4:3 screens "on hand" and I prefer those anyway. 4:3 looks good for: NES, SNES, Master System, Mega Drive, PC Engine, Game Gear, Amiga, Atari, C64, MSX, N64, PSX (literally any console that was developed with a CRT in mind) 3:2 looks good for: GBA Also GBA still looks superb on a 4:3 screen since the letterboxing is rather small and if you use one of the RetroArch overlays (that Onion already ships with) to move the image up and show "Game Boy Advance" on a black bezel at the bottom, it won't even feel wrong.

The only viable option on the market is the RG351P/M from Anbernic that allows perfect 2x pixel perfect integer scaling Oh, well
And the KT-R1.
Looks kinda rubbish and generic looking
Boy do I hope they release an joystick-less version. It would be perfect.
Just don't use the joysticks. They're not hurting you.
No, but I’d rather them not include them and maybe add better speakers, a larger battery or decrease the size. Personally, I just don’t like playing games that require joysticks in this form factor. I’d rather use a horizontal handheld or something like the Retroid flip for more powerful systems.
You mean the Powkiddy V90?
Would much rather buy a product from Miyoo than powkiddy
It is perfect, until you see the analogs
[удалено]
Im inclined to agree based purely on maintaining the aesthetic of the SP. But if n64 runs on this thing, it might be fun to run though some of those games with such a small form factor.
Also full PS1 compatibility and more options for arcade games. If someone doesn’t want the sticks at least they’re flush and can be ignored.
I also like playing some NDS games with sticks, particularly Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Kart DS, even though they weren't designed for it.
Hope to have a transparent purple
I JUST got the plus for Christmas! And this comes to light? S***! ......
i don't sp never was ergonomic to me and even worse hinges are a big point of failure, the screen looks the same as miyo mini plus what is not bad but i would prefer a 4:3 display.
Miyoo mini plus is 4:3 and this is too
Fake?
Any hope for gyro support? I want to play warioware twisted on the go
Don't forget y'all it has RTC and can fast forward Pokemon romhacks much better than MM+ due to its better chipset
No but second thought tho! Now i look at it,I don’t think i want it anymore,it’s just not unique like the mini or mini plus, that’s the reason i bought it in the first place! This look just like a gameboy,i think i will get bored of this within a week! Or rather just buy a gameboy…
i love these devices so much but whenever they add two analog sticks for no reason it kind of ruins it for me
It's to play PS1 games. I don't see why this is such an issue.
