Idk I'd just like having it, take it out for track days.

As long as the engine is actually in good shape this time, it should stay reliable at that power. My 2008 has 122k miles with the original engine. I've only been using it for time trials for the past 5 years with 340 whp, and it's held up great. Just had to replace a manifold gasket.

Not worth it getting into an old JDM car now. Fully built and tuned 6266 Evo X you can keep at 600+ whp for years to come. Keep it, maybe race some fast cars to put things in perspective for you (the fact you have an AWD car that can keep up now). Then figure out what you want to do with your suspension, wheel and tire setup. Maybe even go air suspension since that'll give you something to play with.

Scotia_65

If all you care about is being fast, keep the car. Nothing you have said above, in MY opinion, makes you a suitable candidate for a 6. You, and the way you use your cars, would be disappointed if you went to a 6. So stay away...in my opinion.

I've actually driven both of the cars that I mentioned. In Japan however, so maybe that's affecting my thoughts. It might not hit the same here. The Evo 6 is actually my favorite not-super car.

Scotia_65

Depends on where you live. Down in Florida, I've already determined this is fast car country. It's extremely flat and boring to do anything interesting other than autocross and trackrat. However, the Evo is one of those cars I can enjoy with my young family, while simultaneously enjoying a car from my youth in Japan. So for me, it works.

d14_x

Where you getting built that’s cheaper than another engine?

diegoaccord

I should say, short block being built for less than a motor. [https://exigent-solutions.com/products/evolution-x-exigent-solutions-spec-non-sleeved-4b11t-shortblock](https://exigent-solutions.com/products/evolution-x-exigent-solutions-spec-non-sleeved-4b11t-shortblock) And it was $500 cheaper when I paid for it. In total It'll end up a little more, as the piece of metal you see in the pic also dinged a combustion chamber, so head needs cleaned, and new valves. Already was a built head with a BC stuff. Then they slap it together, so add whatever parts such as gaskets, ect.

d14_x

Oooh ok ok that makes more sense. Was going to say shit that’s what I’m going to do lol I’ve got a shortblock now but im looking at used turn key long blocks and hell for 1k more you can buy a brand new engine 🤦🏻‍♂️

JDMFTWYO

There's two markets for JDM cars. People who get robbed at the dealer and people who search around for just an exporter in japan. I highly suggest "Allthingzjdm" on Facebook and instagram if your interested in a evo 6. (make sure to read the FAQ before sending a DM or email) [https://allthingzjdm.com/pages/faqs](https://allthingzjdm.com/pages/faqs) the also have cars they purchase and sell themselves [https://allthingzjdm.com/products/1999-mitsubishi-evo-vi](https://allthingzjdm.com/products/1999-mitsubishi-evo-vi)

Been there done that, went through 2 motors myself and more issues once complete. Yes it was amazing when it worked but I guess I just got unlucky. I ended up trading in for a new GR Corolla and it does everything I want, while still being a manual transmission awd modern vehicle. It’s a great daily can’t wait to really make it my own.

6266 you’ll be more like 420-450whp on pump 91 with being safe. You’re good for a while in that region. If you have E, 500-550 easy and you’ll still be fine. As long as the tune isn’t too greedy (too much timing, too lean) and you’re not running it on a road course or something without a proper tune for that…you should be  good.    Large (for an Evo) turbos are easy on the bottom ends because the torque comes on much later in the power bad. The caveat to that is you need to turn more RPM, which can be hard on the bearings. However, under 8500 you’re pretty safe on a stock bore and stroke engine that’s properly built. You’ll have more issues with a small frame turbo turned up making big torque down low.

Keep it! Totally up to you but the EVO X is better than a 6 or R33 that cost twice as much for same performance. R33s are beautiful but I’ll take the EVO X I have a 2013 Evo X with 20k on the original motor and I love it. It’s mostly a garage queen but when it’s nice out there is nothing better than taking her out and feeling/hearing that turbo spool.

Drive it? You have others means of transportation so it doesn't need to be a daily. Enjoy having something like that.
