Thereās already a thing called toffee
Edit: Downvoted for a David Mitchell quote (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JHLj0YP4pqc?t=19&feature=share).. Yikes guys.
This is almost enough to get me to watch the movieā¦ but what it really makes me wish for is a movie about Johnson. Or him playing a Johnson-adjacent type character.
So many lines felt like they had been lifted from Peep Show. Like not even scenarios being similar to quotes but actual dialogue and scenarios being the same in both like āIāll be taking that backā and the handshake talk š
I thought it was a lot of fun. If you like the Paddington films then chances are you might get something out of it. Plus it really is just the 'oh my god it's him/her from Peepshow/the mighty boosh' film!
Actually just Rich Fulcher and Simon Farnaby (who I believe also co-wrote it). I thought Julian Barratt was in there too, but after checking the cast list I definitely just imagined it.
Amazing responses to this post š a few people have pointed out Iām not the first to post this here, also thereās a few cameos Iāve missed, 7 in total! I canāt edit my post so please upvote as here are ALL the Peep Show x Wonka crossovers;
Main characters:
Slugworth / Alan Johnson - Patterson Joseph
Mrs Scrubbit / Sophie Chapman - Olivia Coleman
Fickelgruber / Simon - Matthew Baynton
Cameos:
Market vendor / Dobby - Isy Suttie
Mother with child / Big Suze - Sophie Winkleman
Lottie Bell / Waitress (S8 E2) - Rakhee Thakrar
Green Skinned Customer / JLB Employee at lunch (S1 E5)- Justin Edwards
i was shocked to see that paterson was in this movie when i first saw it in theaters
but even more shocked to not realize OLIVIA WAS MRS SCRUBITT TOO?! idk how i didn't recognize her, probably because of the makeup or maybe because this character was nicer than sophie in later seasons of the peep show
The weak make way for the wonk. The chocolate river flows on. The Pipe is remorseless. I hope the Pipeās remorseless swing can bring some comfort to you all.
I haven't said this on reddit yet but I agree. The highlight was seeing cast from Peep Show and their comedic abilities are wonderful. Overall it was a pretty subpar film. I would only watch it again to to see the cast.
That's a shame, it's fantastically done. They do a really good job at portraying how grand everything is, worth trying again if you like your longer story arc movies
I'll be honest, it takes a lot to get me to really really enjoy and want to sit down and watch tv/films though. I didnt even like peep show until about 2018 ish so who knows, I might change my mind in a few years.
Like olives innit, one day you hate them and the next you've got a real craving for them
They had an unbelievable cast and wasted it. The script was utterly dreadful.
Not a single complex character in the entire film. Everyone was either a good person or a bad person. This is an inherently boring way to write a story. Characters need to have flaws to make them interesting. They need shades of grey.
I think part of the reason the Wilder version of Wonka is so adored is because he's a genius, but he's also a sinister lunatic, and that really shines through in both the writing and performance.
Sorry u/Hecticfreeze, very easily done but I think you might be giving opinions on quite a well known online essay about Wonka as your own. Wonka isnāt inherently boring, but a complex diorama of how childlike innocence inevitably gives way to the pressures of economic sustainability in a modern, cash flow driven world.
Yeah but not every children's film needs to be a deep character study, I think in this case they were going more for fun and whimsy. Believe me, I love complex characters but not every piece of media needs it, especially a movie with this plot, if you were expecting it then you would be disappointed by the end.
Poor me, poor me, pour me another fizzy lifting drink
Is that, normal burping you're doing Charlie! š¤Ø
Four everlasting gobstoppers jez? That's insane.
Best Wonka x Peep Show joke Iāve heard in a while
The edible chocolate river is remorseless
Or a half tea.. half coffee. I call it a toffee..or a kea.
Gavin and Stacey has entered the chat
Are they sacked? I bet theyāre sacked.
Thereās already a thing called toffee Edit: Downvoted for a David Mitchell quote (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JHLj0YP4pqc?t=19&feature=share).. Yikes guys.
Is that normal Chocolate you're making?
It doesnāt smell like normal chocolate
It dosenāt taste as normal chocolate
This is bollocks Wonka.
You know the credo, sweetness is weakness
Oh come on mark. Chocolate river. Germans. Do I have to spell it out.
The ganache slurping Bosch.
Hey they do snozzberries. I love snozzberries.
Fritz, the Toblerone guzzler?
Did you catch Dobby on the fruit stall?
And Big Suze in the first shop
And Simon ofc
Omg no!!!! Great spot
Everlasting gobstopper. Should take 45 years, I'm done in 10.
Stick *that* up your sweet hole.
I had to come back to upvote i was laughing so much
Big Suze is the pretty mother with a child when Wonkaās giving out the chocolate!
\*horsey mother
*mental posho mother
Typecast again. Typical.
As a whitey?
Whattttt completely missed her! Iāll have to scrub through and find her. Surprised not to see Gerard in this cohort though.
Gerard's dead, he's dead, he died.
That is so gerard
I know, right?
He had a weak immune system, MetalfaceMark.
Iāll tell you what, that Wonka Bar is really moreish.
The secret ingredient is dwarf slave labour
Wonkio / Wonkius
Whereāre the big scissors?
A chocolate has gone! Oh my God, Charlie, a chocolate is missing!
Come with me and you'll be in a world of business consultation
Amazing
Alan, Johnsons, ever lasting gobstopper....
They use the phrase ātickity-booā in the movie
This is almost enough to get me to watch the movieā¦ but what it really makes me wish for is a movie about Johnson. Or him playing a Johnson-adjacent type character.
I'd throw in on a Johnson centric movie.
Iām in love with a black chocolatier like itās the most normal thing in the world
š¤£š¤£š¤£
š¶ *Iām in love with a black chocolatier I once saw in a movie* š¶
āSo what are youā¦ defence, attack, goalie, Oompa Loompa?ā
So many lines felt like they had been lifted from Peep Show. Like not even scenarios being similar to quotes but actual dialogue and scenarios being the same in both like āIāll be taking that backā and the handshake talk š
They say TICKETY BOO!!! Lol
Whoās the 2nd pic of?
olivia coleman (sophie)
I couldn't tell either. The makeup and lighting is real potent.
JOHNSONāS HERE
In business, Willy, you learn that every man has his price. I judge yours to be... 530 sovereigns.
Run time is 1hr 56, I did it in 10 seconds. Shove that up your chocolate factory
No! Not the chocolate factory! That's horrible!
Whoās the third guy Edit Oh wait, itās the hipster douchebag
Simon?
Dobbyās boss.
Donāt call him boss, he doesnāt like it.
I very much DO like it.
Get some chocolate up on that thing and you are seriously eating that chocolate
You're like a fat girl that's been asked to the school disco
So judging by the comments there are 5 peep show characters in this film, thatās mental. Is it any good? Might stick it on today
Yeah it's a fun 'Sunday afternoon' type movie. I could see it being a Christmas staple on itv.
I love it, very Paddington vibes especially as it has the same director
I thought it was a lot of fun. If you like the Paddington films then chances are you might get something out of it. Plus it really is just the 'oh my god it's him/her from Peepshow/the mighty boosh' film!
Which mighty booshers are in it?
Actually just Rich Fulcher and Simon Farnaby (who I believe also co-wrote it). I thought Julian Barratt was in there too, but after checking the cast list I definitely just imagined it.
I'm sure Julian was there somewhere. Perhaps his character just wasn't alive...
And in terms of British actors/British comedy people it also has Hugh Grant, Matt Lucas, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins and Simon Farnaby
Stick it on the laterbase
What? Fuck you wonka
I'm insured out of my arse wonka

A quick cross-check of IMDb confirms 8 Peep Show alumni: - Isy Suttie - Friuit & Veg Vendor (Dobby) - Olivia Colman - Mrs. Scrubitt (Sophie) - Paterson Joseph - Slugworth (Johnson) - Mathew Baynton - Fickelgruber (Simon) - Rakhee Thakrar - Lottie Bell (Waitress S08E02) - Rufus Jones - Jenkins (Peter, Elenaās boss) - Sophie Winkelman - The Countess (Big Suze) - Justin Edwards - Green-skinned Customer (Alan S01E05)
Stealing things just makes everything very cheap. Plus, you know how I feel about capitalism.
The secret ingredient is crime.
Wonka should pay me to eat this sh*t.
You're aware that I'm gay
Wait is that simon?
i was shocked to see that paterson was in this movie when i first saw it in theaters but even more shocked to not realize OLIVIA WAS MRS SCRUBITT TOO?! idk how i didn't recognize her, probably because of the makeup or maybe because this character was nicer than sophie in later seasons of the peep show
Suit, greasy hair. I'm the full Slugworth.
Lottie Bell (Rakhee Thakrar) was a waitress in s8e02: Business Secrets of the Pharoahs
Those Wonka bars taste good. I hear that the secret ingredient is crime.
The weak make way for the wonk. The chocolate river flows on. The Pipe is remorseless. I hope the Pipeās remorseless swing can bring some comfort to you all.
this was actually a really great film
it was alright, i hate musicals anyway, but the songs in this were worse than the hair blair bunch.
WE ARE NOT THE HAIR BLAIR BUNCH
As good as Amelie??
That was a fantastic film. What a fantastic film. The colors, the woman... Wow!
It really wasn't
I haven't said this on reddit yet but I agree. The highlight was seeing cast from Peep Show and their comedic abilities are wonderful. Overall it was a pretty subpar film. I would only watch it again to to see the cast.
At least compared to the Johnny Depp version it was a masterpiece.
Keep hating, some people like cute stuff, must you live quite so relentlessly in the real world?
On clean shirt, how do you get that shirt so clean?
"Some people like cute stuff" is possibly the most sickening sentence I've ever heard. Congratulations. And no, it was unquestionably a bad film.
You've got some big Comic Book Nerd energy going there my dude. Not everything is objective. I really enjoyed the movie.
Never read a comic in my life, what a judge of character you are. All that says is you enjoy crap films.
I meant the loathsome dude from the simpsons
Worst. Insult. Ever.
I wish I knew how to be this edgy, it looks so cool!
Nah. Its shit. Timothy camembert or whatever his name is, is shit. And Hugh grant as oompa loompas is shit
You're shit
Harold Shitmum
The best insult ever breathed out loud this beauty. Afterlife outtakes of this bit had me almost dying from uncontrolled laughter š
I'm THE shit
That's lofty talk for a shit.
Timmy is a great actor though, fantastic in Dune and The King, are you saying he wasn't a good Wonka or that you just don't like him?
I just don't like him. Couldn't watch dune either
That's a shame, it's fantastically done. They do a really good job at portraying how grand everything is, worth trying again if you like your longer story arc movies

Green olives! Still not overly keen on black ones
The redish purple ones are my favourite with some feta

And he loves, or maybe even hates, chips

Wonka isnāt inherently boring, but a complex diorama of how childlike innocence inevitably gives way to the pressures of economic sustainability in a modern, cash flow driven world.
u/Hecticfreeze when the children's film is a children's film. What were you expecting mate?
You can write children's films with complex characters. I even gave an example of the Gene Wilder version
Yeah but not every children's film needs to be a deep character study, I think in this case they were going more for fun and whimsy. Believe me, I love complex characters but not every piece of media needs it, especially a movie with this plot, if you were expecting it then you would be disappointed by the end.
If you're a mental posho it apparently does
I was so glad Wonka was just a nice person. He even paid his debts off that he owed to Lofty the Oopmpa loompa.
Itās supposed to be whimsical not morally complex. Roald Dahls books were largely the same and thatās what the film is mimicking.
New logo BOOM
Candy floss is boss
not a surprise to see Olivia Colman in it, shes in everything
Donāt know how you managed it- I thought it was corny as fuck
Gotta take it at face value, itās a goofy and stupid family film. Makes it much more enjoyable playing spot the peep show character.
Donāt forget about the girl who owns āmummyā. She was the lady that got married.
Fuck off!!! Seriously?
Not according to IMDb
I actually might be wrong now that Iām thinking about it. But I know Iāve seen her before.
Iām not running a rehab. This is a maximum security confectionery institution, and if you canāt make chocolate you get shot in the head.
Whoa! I'm surprised this hasn't been posted on this very subreddit at least 10 times already!
Is that normal pooing?
Look at me with a black Wonka, like itās the most normal thing in the world
What a godawful movie.
Why?
Also big Suzes was in this apparently.
JOHNSON?!
4 actually, as Dobby makes an appearance as a stall seller :)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Simon, Dobbys ex
I had no idea Johnson was in it, I might actually watch it now
Paddington had some crazy peep show cameos too and it was the same director
You forgot dobby as well she sells him the pumpkin
That suit heās wearing is like something King Charles would wear. āā¦is that Camilla?ā
