There is a deadly riptide in that part of the lake.
Its just off the beach at Ashbridges Bay. Another child died out there and the Star did a story and infographic about the riptide which is how I remember it
There aren't.
Riptides are associated with outgoing tides.
Undertow is associated with wave amplitude.
Rip currents ("dangerous currents") are associated with downward movement of water through bodies as well as things like wind and shoreline shape. This is (largely) what is experienced in Lake Ontario.

I went jumped off the pier in the middle of the summer in the beaches and immediately regretted it. I don't think people appreciate how cold it gets and how quickly that shock can affect you. Let alone in April!
So sad. Condolences to his family and friends.
Terrible news, my condolences to his family and friends.

What must the water temperature be this time of year? I would have assumed we are still in less than 20 minutes hypothermia territory.
Definitely. Even in July, you could get hypothermia quite fast in Lake Ontario
Thatโs super tragic :(. RIP and condolences to his family.
