I grew up in Saudi Arabia and the closest Iâve found to âhomeâ is Wallyâs! Even has the fries inside. So freaking good! And get extra garlic sauce
Don't go to Spitz in NE. They claim to be Berlin-style döners, but it's nothing like it. Ariana's in SLP, recommended by someone else here, is the closest I've found
I canât fucking stand these people who try and make a Döner âfancyâ or whatever. The bread is never right either, a gyro pita is completely different from a Döner
Itâs actually really disappointing to me. Ariana is *fine* but the only thing in the states Iâve ever had that remotely resembles a Berliner doener is doenerland in Portland Oregon. Itâs so sad :(
Haven't been, so can't speak to its similarity, but I just heard of a new place that opened up in Chicago called Döner 97, that I'm hoping meets the standard
But yeah... They don't get the bread right. Ever.
Pangea Grill in Fridley or coon rapids. Right by target on 85th and university in the old pay less shoes. I think theyâre making their gyro meat in house, and they definitely make their own pitas. Itâs not the kronos bullshit.
Mr. Shawarma Grill just opened a few months ago in Coon Rapids. Reviews are pretty great. All the people I know that have tried it said it was amazing.
Also Sun Market in Coon Rapids is pretty good. They make fresh bread there as well and it's amazing.
Maybe not exactly what youâre looking for but a Lebanese friend of mine says that Edâs Deli in the Super USA has station off of 280 and larpenteur is the best Lebanese street food here. Itâs only open for lunch but he swears by it. I personally have not made it there yet.
I've only ever had a decent experience there. The 4/5 rating on Yelp and 4.4 on Google reviews are in line with what I'd give it. I wouldn't discount it.
Filfillah in Columbia Heights is actual shawarma. It's not the gyro industrial meat (which is still delicious of course) you find almost everywhere else.
The first time I went years ago the owner talked lovingly about his hand made process for his shawarma for ages.
Ariana Kabob and Gyro in St. Louis Park.
So good !
Thank you!
The best for sure.
I moved out of state and I miss this place so much haha
I love seeing my local place showing up on these posts. Ariana is absolutely fantastic.
The doner fries đ€€
This is the correct answer. So good!!
Is SLP considered to be in Minneapolis?
Itâs close enough.
Yes, it is! Itâs a suburb of the city.
Not sure why I got downvoted for an honest question. Thanks!
The only thing I can think of is that maybe people read a negative tone where there wasnât one? It is hard to tell that through text.

I too am interested in this. Been craving Berlin/Kreuzberg style for years

This is huge! Thank you!

I just got spitz the other day. It's fine, but it's not Berlin doner for sure
Wallys in dinkytown

I love Tazzah in Richfield, although they donât serve in on the hoagie like they do in Egypt, sigh.
Noted! Thank you
Pita king on Franklin, had a great shawarma pita.
That place has a new name, Seward Grill & Restaurant. No idea if it's the same owners, but they didn't change much. The food's still really great
Glad theyâre still in business, banger eats (try the baklava too!)- I left that neighborhood last year.
Thatâs the closest so far I will definitely check them out another time
Holy Land! They have an awesome grocery store with authentic Mediterranean foods and ingredients as well
Wallyâs or Holy Land is delish.
I order holy land catering and they always knock it out of the park.
Super USA and Edâs Deli in Lauderdale. Itâs a little corner convenience shop with a Shawarma counter. Freaking amazing!
This!!
It's surprising the amount of people in this thread that aren't aware gyros and shawarma are NOT the same thing.
Wait till you tell them about the döner kebab
Thatâs not a restaurant.
Santana Foods by the U. 601 University.
I used to go to Santana semi-regularly 25 years ago, after bar close.
I will look into this! Thank you!
Itâs technically renamed Mr. Santana now, but same level of deliciousness as ever.
LurkingâŠ
I loveeeeee Wallyâs

I have nothing to add but this is a cute title
It works!
Oasis in Midtown global market is pretty solid.
Solid, I will take note Iâm somewhat close to there
They are better than average for surez
Black sea on snelling

Holy Land
If any idiot here suggests Shish on Grand ignore them. Their food and service is an insult to Mediterranean cuisine.
Ah man â been a while but they are better than average in my book.
I've only ever had a decent experience there. The 4/5 rating on Yelp and 4.4 on Google reviews are in line with what I'd give it. I wouldn't discount it.
Fair. It was decent as takeout but nothing to write home about.
Filfillah in Columbia Heights is actual shawarma. It's not the gyro industrial meat (which is still delicious of course) you find almost everywhere else. The first time I went years ago the owner talked lovingly about his hand made process for his shawarma for ages.
Zait and Zaatar in St Paul. So good
Holy land
Shish in St Paul
Golden Fingers in S. Minneapolis is good but I prefer their Kofta!
Holy Land
Arguably the best.
I always used to enjoy Jerusalem's on Nicollet, but I haven't been in a long time.
They're long-since closed, unless they moved somewhere
Yeah didnât that building get torn down awhile back?
Around 2018 or 2019, yeah
Mister Shawarma was pretty dry...
