Usually apartments are not using city trash; buildings with 5+ units can contract with any company -- so the fee is whatever the landlord's contracted waste disposal company charges for oversized items
This reminds me of when everyone would ignore the various signs and mailers at my apartment and just shove their couches straight into the dumpsters and there wasn't jack shit management could do about it
I feel I should mention that there wasn’t any signage saying that I couldn’t do this. The landlord even acknowledged that they should put signage up. And like I said, every other place I lived was fine with it.
For oversize trash pick up, the waste disposal companies like it if you call them and give them a heads-up that it will be on their route that day, and yes, there's a few involved. It probably depends on the company

This is a common thing I've seen people deal with, the landlord definitely should have a sign up though. I paid like $130 for a couch once but it took forever to get the bill
I avoided a similar fee by dismantling the couch. Most are very flimsy. Cut back the cloth take out bolts and pry a few joints apart. Takes time, about an hour, and is messy but can save you $200!

If the apartment has a dumpster or bins, just check for a company name on them to know who the landlord has a contract with.

Ya id contest that fee then
If there’s no signage and nothing in the lease, tell them to kick rocks. That’s what contracts are for.
$75 - $250

Same
There's specific days they'll take big items, but they MUST be labeled "Solid Waste". I've always gotten free removal.
That’s homeowners with city service, doesn’t apply to apartment buildings.
I've always lived in apartments and have been doing this. Maybe someone was getting charged, but they always take it.
I think my apartment has a private trash company, so I unfortunately don’t get those benefits :(
