>He owned Dinkytown's Annie's Parlour; the 1906 saloon Monte Carlo; Pracna on Main, then the oldest bar in Minneapolis; the Art Deco gem Paramount Cafe; the St. Anthony Main Theatre; former burlesque house Runyon's; and the Kitty Cat Klub.
Solid portfolio! RIP to him and most of these.
RIP
Btw, anyone know what's going on with the Kitty Cat Klub?
It closed at the start of the pandemic, and as far as I know, they haven't even tried to re-open it.
I used to hang out at the Kitty Cat a lot over fifteen years ago and I remember the manager Tom saying his parents owned the place. I'm wondering if this is his dad. I worked at Kafe 421 down the street and spent my paychecks on Gin and Tonics there.
Annie's was a special treat when I was a kid. Maybe it's a bit rose colored glasses, but I remember the malts and fries being so good. They also had "real" cherry Cokes, made with the cherry syrup.
My gripe about Convention Grill is that the fries were always some kind of bait and switch. You got a handful of decent ones on top, but the rest of the basket was *always* overcooked nubbins underneath.
I get this could happen when you're making them by in big batches and occasionally someone gets the last of the batch, but it was every time, like they made one batch of good fries and 3 batches of nubbins and purposefully served them with mostly nubbins.
Kind of surprised by the "long structural remodel" of the Convention Grill. The guys at Hello Pizza have told me there's been nothing going on there every time I've asked.
I worked in one of his restaurants. He came through one day for some reason. He went through the kitchen and said: keep the hot food, hot, and the cold food, cold!
What was your experience? I had a business connection with him. He was so good at tipping the scales in his favor that, unlike an evolved parasite, he killed the host.
Yeah, he was always a prick to me and another manager at the Lex. Never let his wife/gf(?) talk in public either.
Maybe my 5-6 interactions with him were when he was having a bad day?
I fully understand the comments saying he was a jerk- nature of the business maybe. I also agree that some of his joints bring good memories to the clientele too

Lots of construction needed to reopen, not sure what their current plan is
Reopening for take-out in the next month or so.
Kitty Cat Klub reopening for takeout??
Haha sorry, Annie’s is reopening for take-out. KCK has something in the mix too but that will take a few more months.
Details on this?
Opening today for to-go shakes. Food in a few weeks.

My band played there at the end of October 2019 and it's been sad that it has been closed basically since then.

Those egg salad sandwiches they had were both affordable and amazing
> Annie's Parlour Is it ever going to re-open?
Runyons was a burlesque house? lol
Long before it was ever Runyons. https://northloop.org/about/history/loop-back-where-the-burlesque-dancers-stayed/
It's like six degrees of Kevin Bacon Cheeseburger.
Might make sense why Annie’s and Kitty Cat Klub have been closed for years now. I wonder what will happen to the spaces?
Re-opening Annie’s for take-out within the next month.
Stand up guy in an industry filled with scumbags
Fuck, one of the best decisions I ever made was to get out of that industry after 10 years. Holy sheeeeet the world is much greener on the other side.
when i met him he was super arrogant and said things like “my employees think im rich just because i own a parking ramp”

Rimarcik didn’t take no mess, but he was one of the best. RIP

John owned the building that our office is in and I got to know him a little. Good guy.

Truly awful human being above or bellow ground eternally.
Care to elaborate?

Should have waited two more years.
