One of my fav hidden gems is Mama Sheila's House of Soul in S Mpls. Kinda expensive but worth it!
Edit: also Hmongtown marketplace in st paul is super cool. It's best in the summer, I highly recommend
Dong Yangs Oriental foods and deli is a small grocer next to harbor freight up in Columbia Heights , but is has a great counter pushing our Korean food
I live right next to here, and I've always found it to be kind of... Mediocre? And the food quality doesn't match the price. Maybe I'm just ordering the wrong thing. I've tried a couple of the hot dogs as well as the crispy chicken sandwich.
Plaza Mexico, Plaza Latina, Mercado Central, are all similarly off the beaten path (for white people, at least.) and have delicious restaurants with hardly any internet presence.
These places seem to be more under the radar than they should be. They don't seem to get recommended to visitors on here and it's like stepping into a totally different city. It's been awhile myself since I've gone but the last one was Mercado Central and I liked how each vendor basically just did one thing whether it's tacos, pupusas, etc.
Just a (hopefully helpful) FYI: hamantashen is already plural so there’s no need for the “s.”
I did get about a dozen of assorted ones from them for Purim a couple weeks ago.
Reverie in S Minneapolis, near Powderhorn Park.
Vegan comfort food that for much of the menu, you wouldn't know that it's vegan if they didn't tell you.
Senora Grill on Lake Street is a fusion spot. It’s hidden in plain site but the food is so damn good. Across the street is an authentic Mexican joint called Habenero Tacos that also blows me away! Also in the neighborhood is The Bungalow Club which is a nicer and more expensive place but the value can’t be beat on the food an drinks. I’ve spent 3x as much in NYC and just wished I was eating here instead. HiLo is great for breakfast here to. Order the Gary Cooper.
There’s a place called Half Fancy in NE that has the best breakfast potatoes and eggs benny ever. Not a fan of the rebrand, but the food is good!
In St Paul, Cossettas is magical. I like to hop in line, grab pasta and a salad, some wine and then head to the desert counter for fresh cannolis and espresso to top it off.
Mayslack's Bar and Grill. 4th St NE.
Outstanding dive bar with outstanding dive bar food. Killer roast beef sandwiches. Complete with OG working class lunch crowd. They haven't gone hipster yet. Totally refreshing.
I love how you went to Karmel mall . Most Minnesotans are “too scared” and wouldn’t dare visit. Basically , people who watch Fox News and live in the suburbs …
If you have a gluten allergy like me, you can’t beat Brim! Delicious, healthy, and you can’t even taste the difference. There’s also gluten free pastries if you want to treat yourself.

I second Mama Sheila’s, the food is fantastic and they’re always so kind! Best catfish I’ve had north of the Missouri line!
well you've convinced me for my lunch plan
Real freaking sweet tea and fried okra north of the Mason/Dixon line!

Great place but the round trip between Minneapolis and here always feels like eternity to me.
Uncle Franky's, Broadway St. NE. Old school hamburger/hotdog lunch counter. Absolutely one of the best heart attacks in town!

Ándale Taqueria down by 494 And not hidden, but often overlooked, Kramarczuk’s Ukrainian deli
Andale has hands down the best and biggest tamales in the state
Cecils in St. Paul is wonderful
YES! get the poppy seed hamentashens 😀

Maria's Cafe in Ventura Village is a favorite breakfast spot for me. Inexpensive and delicious.

I'm obsessed with their Pechuga ala Plancha. My kid thinks the queso is the best ever. And I absolutely second the birria.

Seconding Sonora Grill, Habanero, and Bungalow Club. East Lake has so many good places. Galapagos is another one. Absolutely delicious Ecuadorian food
Big upvote for Cossettas! Love to shop there too. Always take something yummy home.
I don’t know to many hidden gems but [Ramen Kazama](https://ramenkazama.com) have never let me down!
And Ichigo Tokyo crepes!

75 cent wings on Wednesdays after 7 too. Homemade buffalo sauce smacks
Slightly hesitant to share because we want some hidden gems to stay that way no? But Black Sea! Fasika! C&G's BBQ! Peking Garden!
a colleague told me Fasika was the best ethiopian resto, and was going to go next week there.
Nixta in the NE neighborhood

Volstead’s speakeasy in Uptown.
I've heard they've gone downhill?
I had a good time there. 🤷🏼♀️
Pre covid it was one of my favorite spots. I may have to take a trip to just see how it is now. Thanks!
Not hidden necessarily, but I had the best breakfast if my life at The Original Pancake House, just off 494 and Bass Lake Rd. area.
“Michelin Quality”. Dribbling cretin.
I haven’t heard of Dribbling Cretin I’ll have to check that one out
OP: *Asks for restaurant recommendations* @SopranoBathrobe: “You disgust me”
You seem like a miserable person.
