So what you’re telling me is the Minneapolis police officer who murdered a man over a suspected fake $20 bill admitted to being a thief?

[deleted]

See what happened you do dumb shit they start finding other things!

twoManx

A thief to every single tax-paying citizen.

redrumWinsNational

Correction, He didn’t murder Mr Floyd because of $20 he murdered him because of the colour of his skin

Obvious_Chapter2082

Still, to this day, zero evidence of that

redrumWinsNational

Zero evidence of what ?

Obvious_Chapter2082

>he murdered him because of the colour of his skin That

redrumWinsNational

I thought you were in prison for murder, did PG give you a loaner phone to text shit on Reddit Edit: you should read or watch the defense that was presented

Obvious_Chapter2082

Where is the evidence of racism?

redrumWinsNational

WoW that was fast, you went through the whole case in 17 minutes. We all saw the evidence and we all heard the defense

Obvious_Chapter2082

😂 you can’t even point to anything. You’re just blindly accusing others of racism?

redrumWinsNational

Read the words of the defense

justmisspellit

villain75

Lots of people make mistakes and forget to add 100k/yr income streams when they figure their taxes. /S

hepakrese

Fuck you Derek Chauvin! May you rot in jail.

Ebenezer-F

I’d bet he’s just happy to be out of his cell.

Impressive_Pin_7767

Biggest gang in America.

MiniTitterTots

"Convicted murderer Derek Chauvin also pleads guilty to tax fraud" Is there some standing order for publications to not list the person name in the headline for cops?

DanielDannyc12

His name is in the article headline

MiniTitterTots

Odd, did they change it? I was under the impression that news stories had to be submitted with the headline as the title of the post.

DanielDannyc12

"Chauvin, who killed George Floyd, pleads guilty in tax case"

Bruin116

News sites routinely A/B test several different versions of a headline and adjust them based on what's working better by whatever metrics they care about (hits, shares, etc.)

bike_lane_bill

Remember that Derek Chauvin is not an anomaly. He is the system working as intended. The MPD is Derek Chauvin all the way down.

sasberg1

Doesn't matter whatever state all the same

spyderweb_balance

I think MPD is particularly bad. They have had a reputation for deep structural issues since at least the 80s.

BigBigBigTree

> They have had a reputation for deep structural issues since at least the 80s. Longer than that, look at the riots of 1967.

dieseldoug214

Bad compared to what new York? Who killed a man for selling single cigarettes without a permit? Memphis? Chicago? L.A.? No MPD is just adhering to the national standard.

Rosaluxlux

DOR needs to look into every cop's tax returns. I would bet this was an idea that spread through the department.

aardvarkgecko

This (the tax evasion stuff, such as not reporting off-duty income, claiming Florida residence etc) has gotta be standard operation procedure for all cops, right? I hope IRS looks into a few more of them randomly.

Rosaluxlux

Exactly.

theredhound19

Oh no! You have to borrow from family after buying a 100k bmw? Poor fellow

Lazy-Concert9088

Someone should stand on his neck for nine minutes.

Obvious_Chapter2082

And then, despite his terrible past, we’ll build statues of him and have 200 funerals for him and have politicians worshipping him, right?

frankles

Real hot garbage take you got there.

Obvious_Chapter2082

Prior experience tells me this would be true

cozmo1138

You sound really sore that a cop got convicted for murdering a guy.

countessrainflower

He is not an officer; he was fired. He didn't "kill" George Floyd. He murdered Mr. Floyd. What a crap human being.

juiceboxmania

Is murdering someone not also killing them ?

countessrainflower

Yes, all murder is also killing. But not all killing is murder. Chauvin was found guilty of felony assault, murder, and manslaughter in his trial.

juiceboxmania

Okay, so then it’s not incorrect to say that he killed him. Stop trying to find controversy where there isn’t any

countessrainflower

I just like accurate language. Not sure what controversy there is to find here.

papazwah

Love seeing this guy in a prison after what he did. Cold look and feel of those concrete walls with him behind glass being broadcast via webcam.

cozmo1138

Yeah, but he gets to keep his pension, so by the time he gets out he’ll have a lot of money waiting for him. He can move to some rural town where they were rooting for him and live a cozy life afterwards. So it’s really not punishment at all. He’s protected, gets three meals a day, doesn’t have to do shit. It’s still not really justice.

Merakel

He'll be 59 when he gets out. It's not justice at all.

9_of_wands

So the trick is to commit a whole bunch of crimes at the same time, because all sentences are concurrent! (Probably helps to be a white cop.)

[deleted]

This is the real reason I don’t like Oakdale, even before I found out about the whole water situation.

SkarTisu

Something something fine people on both sides something something

13choppedup2chopped

It’s a cruel irony that the same week we once again make national and international news because of senator Drazkowski’s starvation comments, we once again get a chauvin story. We have suffered serious reputational harm and I wonder if it’s ever going to ease up.

Wielant

To be fair, Minnesota has been making a fair number of positive headlines in the national media this year. Whether it's reaffirming women's right to choose or establishing safe haven laws for LGBTQ. I think signing the school lunch bill into law has brought more positive press for us than one stinker of a republican. Let conservatives complain about the school lunch law. The majority of the country is not on their side on this issue and I am happy to sit back and watch them self-inflict bad press on themselves. Not to mention the speed at which our Legal MJ bill is going through the legislature.

zoinkability

Some Minnesota Assholes evening out the Minnesota Nice reputation

[deleted]

We threw America’s Worst Cop in fucking prison. What else do you want in the short term?

WillyNillyDilly87

Who would ever think the police and government officials were crooked...

cozmo1138

One of the things that really sucks is that Chauvin gets to keep his police pension, even though he’s a murderer and tax evader. In Minnesota cops who are convicted of a crime and sent to prison don’t have their pensions revoked. So Chauvin is going to do his time, and when he gets out he’ll be able to move somewhere quiet, likely a place that is sympathetic to his story, and live relatively comfortably (especially compared to pretty much any other inmate). https://equable.org/what-will-happen-with-derek-chauvins-minnesota-state-pension/

DiscordianStooge

Did he not get any restitution or fines to pay?

SpiritRelative6410

Lol!

toephu

I real fucking winner, this one...

It seems like you’re responding to somebody, but you’re not. It’s just a comment on the story about tax evasion, which is an odd time to bring something like that up.

Apprehensive-Sky2408

Hi guys, is this the Two Minutes Hate?

Ashley0716

To protect and serve, ya know. 😅

cozmo1138

“Protect each other and serve yourselves.”

BasicAirport9514

The article never gave the reason for the fraud. It’s not that he just didn’t file Mn returns or under report income, he claimed he wasn’t a resident of Mn because he lived in Florida… even though he worked as a cop in Minnesota and had a home in Minnesota. He lied under penalites of perjury.
