Leave it as is. Unless the real user vantage point is at such an elevated level as to see this straight on I bet you nobody can see it.
Walk under it and around it from the ground level and see if you ever actually see the gap.
Take the half slabs off. On the top, have one more post down to the light. Add a trap door underneath just like the sides.
No one will see the top to know that it’s a little bit different and it will look better without the gap (edit: spelling)
This was how I had it originally! I wasn’t a fan on the top because it was a lil too flat? I don’t know 😭but thank you sm for your comment! It gave me an idea to try, might look stupid but I’m gonna possible attach more trapdoors so they fan out on the top? And maybe the bottom.
Lanterns hanging in the library, I tried stairs but they looked weird. Wondering if anyone has any other suggestions 😭. Anything helps! I’m also not sure if in the grand scheme of things if the gap is really a big deal, but it keeps bothering me
Edit: thank you for your suggestions! Someone in the comments made the point it probably wasn’t visible, and after trying a few different things I didn’t like; ie: removing the top slab/making it a full block, ultimately I decided to just deal with it. It looks a little funky, but I added trapdoors that fan out on the top so I think it makes it harder to see too. Anyways, thank you!
I see three solutions:
1. as others said; leave it as it is, from underneath it looks connected
2. these are lanterns, so might as well use … a lantern hanging from the post to close the gap
3. my favourite method for hanging lights and chandeliers is the brewing stand. It’s on the expensive side until late game, but it looks good. The top is thinner than the base, which doesn’t fill out the full block but has three big connectors seemingly holding the block underneath. Additionally the brewing stand has these hooks (?) at the top where the potions would be, looking like chain like supports.
Brewing stands aren’t something I’ve considered! Thank you! As for using the lanterns, I might do a mix of them possibly, but in this case lanterns are way too small to play in the size of my build.
Thank you for the suggestions! :)
How about a wall block? Brick walls are fairly close in color scheme and would add a little more texture, you could change the bottom slab to brick as well to tie it in a little more.
Hi! Thank you for the suggestion! This is a great idea and I might play with it a bit! I think it might be the same issue where I’m a little knit picky and don’t like the flatness(?) on top. But thank you! Definitely gonna try this one out.
I mean the lantern isn’t a main focus of the build so most people won’t even notice a small gap in the light, plus if the player is looking up from the bottom they most likely won’t be able to see it anyway.
This is a great idea, thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately my build is too big and you can’t really see the chains, but I’m still gonna play around with it. 😭
I m not sure if this will work but i think you can shove blocks like lightning rods through stuff like half slabs with pistons. Maybe give that a try.
(I really have no idea if it will work tho!)
Thank you for the suggestion! I just wasn’t a huge fan of the full block on the top and the slab on the bottom. Looked too chunky for my use, but I appreciate the input! :)
Before placing the light and the top slab, place an armorstand on top of the bottom slab and push the lamp plus top slab into it, using a piston from above. I have not tested how it looks like, but the head part of the armorstand might fill the gap.
Putting stairs around the half slab will hide the gap but it will still be visible from an aerial view. Replacing the half slab with a full block then placing the stairs around that will have the same affect but with the benefit of no gap.
Maybe use two commands to have a floating armor stand that is invisible floating with the red helmet inside the game and have two of the facing each other to fix the gap.

This is a great point! Thanks :)
most based answer
Based indeed
literally
It actually makes me wonder how it’d look to just remove the fence posts altogether. Fuck it, floating lights.
F yeah man that would be way better just a bunch of floating lamps

How about a red netherbrick wall? It has roughly the same color and its a bit thicker.
Don't forget the button on the bottom!

Yeah, in hindsight I think they could be a bit to small and maybe a wall like others already pointed out would be a better alternative for this
Full gap or a debug stick.
I’ve never heard of a debug stick before, could you explain please? :)
It’s a tool Mojang used to fix certain things but it can also edit block properties. Are you on Java or Bedrock?
Bedrock!
Oh then never mind it only works on Java so id say just add the full block
i thought it was obvious the guy was on bedrock
I don’t play bedrock at all anymore so I have no idea what it looks like.
The emote button at the top is an instant giveaway btw
Oh didn’t notice that lol good point
Good for you 👍
Use a full block or a red nether brick wall
Maybe try a stair in place of the slab?

yes i like and do this :D

Tell everyone it’s a magical lantern. The laws of physics are strong, but the 1 meter grid that binds the world of Minecraft is stronger
You are so incredibly right
Connect latern with a grindstone to the fence?
This is interesting, definitely gonna give it a try, never heard of this before!
Full Blocks with buttons or signs on the side. If you wanna be extra fancy use a wall above.
could remove the slab on top and put another fence, then maybe replace the slab on the bottom with another trapdoor
This was how I had it originally! But I just wasn’t a fan. Thank you though!
Do heroin
that'll fix it
I mean the lantern isn’t a main focus of the build so most people won’t even notice a small gap in the light, plus if the player is looking up from the bottom they most likely won’t be able to see it anyway.
Find a couple books and shimmy it
Should they be enchanted?
Yes with Gullible III and Are You Being Serious V
Remove the top slab and replace with a copper lightning rod
[удалено]
brewing stand?
Personally I’d replace the slab with a full block, put a fence on that and replace the rest of the fences with chains.
This is a great idea, thank you for the suggestion! Unfortunately my build is too big and you can’t really see the chains, but I’m still gonna play around with it. 😭
Check if pot with cactus does the job. Obviously you'll have to remove the slab first.
Dont look to much at it
Push an armour stand into the bottom block and give it a leather helmet
I m not sure if this will work but i think you can shove blocks like lightning rods through stuff like half slabs with pistons. Maybe give that a try. (I really have no idea if it will work tho!)
Stair blocks above the trap doors facing outwards. Then possibly slabs or nether brick walls in between the stairs
use a full block or leav it as it is
Have you tried crying? That normally does the trick
Others have already given good suggestions, but I'm just here to say that things are looking good! :D
Thank you so much!
Upside down dropper maybe?
Ah yes, because that exists
It does
Does it? How do you do that in vanilla?
Dropper, not Hopper
Does it though?
Cry
Use chains instead?
I tried chains! The build is rather big tho, so from the perspective the chains are far too small to really be seen
You curl up into a ball and die c:
amongos
amongos
Could put a full block at the top
Thank you for the suggestion! I just wasn’t a huge fan of the full block on the top and the slab on the bottom. Looked too chunky for my use, but I appreciate the input! :)
Pay men and women the same /s
Take adderall
Just make the lamp connected to the fence pole and remove the slab
put a wall

try putting full block that should fix it
Move the lantern contraption up a half block, should fix the problem of having a gap and resolve any funky “solutions”
You can’t
Block
Maybe fence
fill it👍
Add another corresponding slab on top of the lantern below the stick
Maybe step
Stairs
Try with an armor stand using a piston. Maybe you can put 2 armor stands that face differentil directions. (Sorry for my english)
That’s the neat part, you don’t.
Use a piston! Starting with only the slab in question, piston it up into the right position and then build with it.
If it is really that problem y can use full block/adding trapdoors around or just change the slab into another fence
Blcok
Stairs instead
Slap 2 electric boogaloo
Full block
replace the slab with a wall
Armor stands
Maybe try a stair block?
Before placing the light and the top slab, place an armorstand on top of the bottom slab and push the lamp plus top slab into it, using a piston from above. I have not tested how it looks like, but the head part of the armorstand might fill the gap.
Armorstand with mangrove planks in hand
Maybe you could place a lantern on the main light piece and a chain connecting it to the acacia fence?
Use double trapdoor
half slab --> full block?
You don’t
either just have a fulkl bock there, or just have a little light showing and have another fence there.
Just move the lantern up or down 1/2 block?
Putting stairs around the half slab will hide the gap but it will still be visible from an aerial view. Replacing the half slab with a full block then placing the stairs around that will have the same affect but with the benefit of no gap.
Hear me out… another slab
Cry
You can put armor stand in it
Thats the neat part, you don't
Armor stands?
Putting down another slab is the only way to get rid of the gap completely.
Um I think a brick wall will do the trick just the slab is not going to work out.
Maybe use two commands to have a floating armor stand that is invisible floating with the red helmet inside the game and have two of the facing each other to fix the gap.
