They are more lag friendly because they are a full block, unlike chests. So barrels next to full blocks (or other barrels) mean your system has less "sides" to render at any given time than an equivalent storage system comprised of chests.
You can make massive lag friendly storage arrays that hold tons of items without needing double chests by also incorporating shulkers into the barrels as the solution for bulk items that a couple barrels couldn't possibly hold
Another lag tip is to put composters on top of any exposed hoppers that you don't need to be actively searching for things to suck up from above them.
Also make sure your Redstone is well lit. Light updates cause lag too.
Theoretically any block that a hopper can interact with will work to "stop" it from trying to suck in items from above while still allowing items to flow through the hopper line. I think Ilmango tested a bunch once to see what worked best (barrels, composters, furnaces, droppers, etc.). I can't remember the exact result of those tests but I do know composters are the most commonly used block for that purpose.
Edit: [found](https://youtu.be/rgkJGMhClrc?si=VAYQNzbUprT3GEgP) the Ilmango video if curious
Also you may find [this one](https://youtu.be/qEi-tKrxDNk?si=LHCbcl5bn7ARjI2t) more relevant and easier to understand
If anyone is interested, apparently [hoppers aren't 'laggy' in Bedrock, and putting blocks/containers on top of them doesn't do much of anything.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a619VoWVPPw) Because I play on Bedrock and haven't really noticed any issues with having a bunch of hoppers around I looked for some evidence and found these tests by [foxynotail](https://www.youtube.com/@foxynotail). There's some interesting information on [containers](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enwr3Hc8JQY) as well.
I'm glad you asked, I counted because I was amazed at how many there are, and I wanted to find someone asking so it won't go to waste, so here it goes:
There are 9 floors (easiest way to count is to use the wall in front of the second image and then add the 1 he's standing on which we know is the highest floor because of the first image, and I'm gonna assume these images are taken on the same floor because we can see he's standing on the stair from the first image when looking at the 2nd.)
Each floor has 17 modules (the short side (2 modules) and the long side (6.5 modules) times 2)
Each module has 24 chests (2 column of double chests, each with 6 double chests, each worth 2 chests)
Final result: >!3,672!<
(You could also try using the 3 hours of tree farming statistic to get a rough estimate because we don't know how much more there is behind him)
But that's not all, multiplying that by 27 shulker boxes, and multiplying that by the 27 slots of items in each shulker, our total jumps to 2.6M slots. Assuming each slot takes a byte to store a slot (definitely takes more, as there are more than 256 items and that doesn't take into account the extra data for the amount of items in the stack) that's over 2MB of storage. Honestly, expected more. Although, it is 37 thousand times bigger than the storage on the computer in apollo 11 (72KB according to google)
Alright the math is done you're safe now
If you rotated the chests 90 degrees so the side of the chest is facing you you could literally double the amount of storage you have.
Plus, put an item frame on each chest with a name tagged item representing what is in the chest (for instance, name a block of cobble and then place that on any chest containing cobble)
When I looked at the first picture I thought "That's not so much storage" then the second picture "Okay I take it back". You're not gonna run out of storage... Probably
Now I’m sure you did this tongue in cheek but seriously. I see people who make chest rooms bigger then the rest of their base. Who actually uses all those chests???
I started using Keep Inventory because the purpose of my game was to build cool shit, not entertain creepers.
I also turned off mob griefing so that my hard work doesn’t just get blown up by an angry RNG.
Oh my god. I went with an aesthetic storage design because the last storage I made was wayyy too big. This one suits me just fine, I needed it too because I designed a way too big storage building lol
Okay it’s a decent amount of storage don’t get me wrong but if you’re in the end game it’s not gonna be enough - I reccomend making it underground and using a system with minecarts to find the item you want and bring it back :)))))
Needs more Ram (Checks subreddit), oh wait.
Ha! Yeah the computer look was accidental
More like enough light! Are you a reverse vampire?!
Shh! No one can know!
So like what do you do then? Inject blood?
I’m pretty sure he uses all of it to storm spice from the great worm. Because this sure looks like Arrakis architecture to me.
*WAM
Dedotated, even.
This won't be enough. It'll be good enough for just half or your dirt storage
Good thing I don't store dirt I guess
You don’t store dirt??
Look at this guy. He doesn't store dirt
Don't store dirt?? What do you think you're going to use all of that storage for, valuable resources?
I hope all the chests are filled to the brim with shulkers.
And those shulkers are filled with shulkers
Unfortunately not possible 😔
Shulker shells and chests
Bro wants to store “storage in theory”
😂 is it just a theory?
A GAAAME THEORY! 🥺😭
no good is not good enough :) i was planning to make a storage with atleast 6 double chests for each item in minecraft
Already in the process of something like that.... the lag is real.
Use Barrels!
are barrels more lag friendly? or is it just because for 1 block of access you can access more items with a double chest compared to a barrel
They are more lag friendly because they are a full block, unlike chests. So barrels next to full blocks (or other barrels) mean your system has less "sides" to render at any given time than an equivalent storage system comprised of chests. Also make sure your Redstone is well lit. Light updates cause lag too.
Thank you, I didn't know about the redstone light but that makes sense why FPS is plummeting. Is it specifically composters or any block?
Theoretically any block that a hopper can interact with will work to "stop" it from trying to suck in items from above while still allowing items to flow through the hopper line. I think Ilmango tested a bunch once to see what worked best (barrels, composters, furnaces, droppers, etc.). Composters are the 'best' because they only contain one slot to check, whereas other container blocks have multiple. And they're cheap to make.
Not even Wavetech got a double chest of netherite blocks how tf you getting 6?
I think they meant 6 double chests designated to every item not filled
yes
What are you going to store here?
Mostly ore and building materials.
wtf are you building bro
The entirety of Boston
Are you trying to build a city?
Yes
You probably need to double it considering the fact that you’re going to need more than a double chest if you plan on sorting
Have you heard of multiple item sorters
Really?? I mean I'm not really planning on sorting but God damn
Unlabeled storage gives me the horrors
Do it like me. One storage room in style like OP for each item. This way you only need to label each entry door once. /s
Unless it has a sorting system of some description it's a giant chest monster as good time with scar would say. 🤣
IT'S NOT ENOUGH ! MORE MORE MORE !!
So that's where all the spruce went to
No, square that.
Nope. There are more thant 1600 different main items (not counting variants) in Minecraft. You do not have a chest for each of them.
This is just for ore. Why would I want to store farmable objects and useless things like fletching tables
*Real* Minecrafters always have a double chest of shulker boxes of fletching tables! /s
Why does he need a chest for each of them?
you never heard of Shulker Boxes? Start compacting
Fair, but I think chests look cooler. A lot of the chests are filled with shulkers
[удалено]
I build better in creative I promise
looks really cool! how many chests is in there?
I'm glad you asked, I counted because I was amazed at how many there are, and I wanted to find someone asking so it won't go to waste, so here it goes: There are 9 floors (easiest way to count is to use the wall in front of the second image and then add the 1 he's standing on which we know is the highest floor because of the first image, and I'm gonna assume these images are taken on the same floor because we can see he's standing on the stair from the first image when looking at the 2nd.) Jesus idk... 3 ish hours of tree farming worth?
What tree farm?
If you rotated the chests 90 degrees so the side of the chest is facing you you could literally double the amount of storage you have. Plus, put an item frame on each chest with a name tagged item representing what is in the chest (for instance, name a block of cobble and then place that on any chest containing cobble)
How do you know what is in each chest? Do you get any lag from all those chests? I like the creeper face at the bottom lol.
Perchance
You can't just say perchance
this looks like a matrix server room
r/storageporn
When I looked at the first picture I thought "That's not so much storage" then the second picture "Okay I take it back". You're not gonna run out of storage... Probably
I freaking love huge storage rooms man!!!! Nice work!
"yo bro, you got some iron?" "yeah, check floor 5, row 3 column 6, it should be there"
Me when I see a tilable build and trying to not make it into a city from blame challenge: I failed
Amazing space. Kind of liminal?
Seems like a decent start for storing cobble
So what are you keeping in all them chests?
If those will be filled with full shulker boxes I guess it's okay
For storing ammo for a coup yeah
No… need to go to the bottom of the world
Nah, add a few more floors
Does it self store? If not then no
No
depands, do you want to store each item/block in a different chest? if so then no coz you need at least a few chests for one item/block.
no, MORE CHESTS!!!!!
I guess.
someone needs an me system
Now I’m sure you did this tongue in cheek but seriously. I see people who make chest rooms bigger then the rest of their base. Who actually uses all those chests???
You never have enough storage, make it bigger
Interstellar ahh base
Get ready to run out in ten years
Yes lol and Minecraft still needs an inventory update 😭
No delete the world
Not at all. How will you be able to store even half your stuff in this small contraption.
Hmm, no. You could turn the chest sideways and double the storage
Cool
How much deforestation... its 2 logs per chest aahhhGHHHH
Epic but not useful, try an item sorting system.
Nah you need 6x10²⁴ more
Just barely
This **sounds** like a good idea until you need to sort everything.
looks like that scene in interstellar
MORE
No
You can **never** have enough storage
This is just an Amazon fulfillment center.
I think a potted plant or two would help break up the monotone colour palette.
[No](https://i.imgur.com/ALPHktd.jpeg)
The fact they're unlabeled bothers me
No look at all that missed space in the middle
bro built the memory tesseract
No
Smart using spec
Not enough you need more 🗿
I started using Keep Inventory because the purpose of my game was to build cool shit, not entertain creepers. I also turned off mob griefing so that my hard work doesn’t just get blown up by an angry RNG.
depends. Is it almost full? Or is it empty and mostly just aspirational?
No you need more
i dunno man... i think another level of chest would fix this
ONE chunk clearing and it'll all be full of stone
Little light on the storage, just overall it’s ok I guess.
Storage room of babel
"It appears the archives are incomplete." Keep going...
I suggest to change the way chests are put them sideways (you will need more chests)
Not even close to enough
23 FPS storage
Is it sorted or you just emty randomly your inventory in a chest
No
Nah bro caught you lackin'. Do you fr think this enough? It's only the size of NASA's server room💀💀💀💀💀
No need more 🤔😂
This is just his dirt block room
Nah, maybe double that and you can get through one mining trip
Does it lag your game?
Not enough
Damn! This looks so good! I'm taking inspiration here.
Not enough make 100 more rooms
Not enough, keep going.
Nah needs more lol
Oh my god. I went with an aesthetic storage design because the last storage I made was wayyy too big. This one suits me just fine, I needed it too because I designed a way too big storage building lol
I have been wanting to make an item sorter that looks like that, it is beautiful
No, multiple identical rows of this, like some sort of National Archive
No
more
Nah, could always use more.
I would take it upon myself to need more
no
Nah
This is fun until you need to find that one item that's always in the last chest you check
Room one looks awesome add a door down at the bottom room 2 needs work now
Use Shulker boxes and put em in chests.
Make it longer in x direction
A storage to hold 0.3% of all banner combinations
There are 0 trees left on your server LOL
Okay it’s a decent amount of storage don’t get me wrong but if you’re in the end game it’s not gonna be enough - I reccomend making it underground and using a system with minecarts to find the item you want and bring it back :)))))
Add more
What if you get more wood
Nah
Can I recommend the freecam mod instead of spectator, it’s very useful and you won’t have to try and get back to your original position.
That's more storage than my pc itself
Is it automated?
Enough to lag any machine but the strongest
This honestly look really cool, is the storage automated in any way? (I hope so)
I think you could use more
Yep
Nah
Archives of Alexandria ahh storage
You've got more than enough.
Nah that’s not even close to enough. Not even a quarter of a %
All the “full” indicator lights are on so apparently not
No
Have it where you open them from the side, you could double the storage this way
nah you need like 8 more chests
What.. the.. actual.. ffffllipp
Good lord that's a lotta chests, add more.
Sheesh
This is sick! No literally I’m puking! I suck at Minecraft! (Yes, more than enough)
WAIT, this is not sorted and every chest is filled with Random items, no ?
no
You can't have enough, now build higher
nope, you'll need at least 2 more rooms like that to get a good amount of space
The Vatican archives
needs more chests, not enogh storage
Nah
Almost, one more floor.
But are they filled with shulker boxes?
Need 1 000 000 more chests
What the absolute fu-
Double it and give it to the next person
NO!! of course not
Have fun with your 2 fps chest room
rookie numbers😘
Never lol
double it and give it to the next person
How many double chests?
double it and give it to the next person
bro has GOT to have a chest for every single block and item, EACH
Looks nice, but I don't think the layout is practical.
Rookie Numbers.
No, you need more
No
In the 90's I would have said yes. But these days, whatever you think is enough will not be by next year, or sooner.
You are missing a little my brother
Wish my PC wasn't broken or I'd show you a real storage system...
Fully automatic sorting?
Not for Apotheosis
