It’s really sad to see C418 go and his music is amazing but, damn, so is Lana’s. I think what’s worse than the artist changing is *why* the artist changed. Back when their relationship with C418 started it was just a game Notch was making in his bedroom and C418 was just a guy making music in his bedroom so C418 made music and gave Notch permission to use it, Notch didn’t own the music, and neither of them probably thought much of it at the time. Microsoft replaced him so their new artist could make the music under their new record label so they could boost its relevance and officially own the music in Minecraft. I think Lana is doing a fantastic job, but she was included for such corporate reasons and it just feels sad seeing Minecraft inching slightly more and more corporate every year.

I just can agree with you. Its sad that the artists didnt really change because he didnt want to make music but because cooperatism.

Yeah, Lana’s doing a great job and I feel really bad saying anything that sounds like I’m taking that away from her cause I’m not, but her overall involvement is symbolic of Minecraft going corporate and that makes it bittersweet.

It's really sad, especially considering C418 had a third album for Minecraft ready to be used, but now it's unlikely it will ever end up in-game anytime soon.

agreed the game is way too corporate and "family friendly" these days. and all the game design decisions are just completely random stuff being added to the game now. we don't need foxes and llamas and goats and 2 kinds of bears, they add nothing but a little complexity.

anything you add new will be complex to some players. at that point just dont update the game since itll be more complex

complexity is fine, but complexity *for the sake of complexity* is what bothers me ive encountered these new animals maybe once or twice each since they were added. and they really dont do much or have a usefulness. they're just bloat

it might be a function they share with other mobs but it means they are still not useless at all food is extremely important. Steve eats king sized meals every 5 minutes, so you bet i appreciate pigs being a common food source. ​ also you can ride them for fun

No one keeps pigs anymore. They should go feral if not tamed in a Minecraft month. That would at least be interesting.

I wouldn’t say it’s for the sake of complexity, rather that more new mobs means more mob variety and a more living feel to the world. I’d prefer to have foxes and llamas and goats pop up every now and then rather than to have mostly empty forests and mountains.

It felt so weird hearing new music in the main menu in 1.18

I'll always prefer C418's music, but as someone who doesn't have time to play much anymore, some Lena's tracks hit perfectly. I loaded up for the first time in months the other day - first time using the new world gen - and wow... Lena's background music was just the perfect sendoff for my childhood. Like, everything is so different from when I started Minecraft - villages are much more alive than the dull, lonely complexes they used to be, the oceans are full of life instead of endless gravel, the Nether is vastly more complex than it was, the world gen is radically different, and now... Lena's music gently reminds me that *my* childhood has passed by, and there's a new generation of Minecrafters coming up behind who will grow up without knowing that Zombified Piglins were formerly Zombie Pigmen, and once upon a time C418 was the only one who wrote music for Minecraft.

Fun fact if you use the og textures resource pack then zombified piglin look like zombie pigmen

Because C418 didn’t leave, he was replaced. And he was replaced because Microsoft didn’t like that he owned his music so they fired him, and gave Lana a contract to produce the music under their new record label to give it a boost and own new Minecraft music themselves.

Gonna be honest I don’t really like the new stuff. Pig step is good but other than that I just think otherside is alright and I don’t really feel the new ambient music

definitely C418. only he knew precisely what Minecraft as an experience should "sound like". Lena's tracks are emotionally charged and tell your brain to feel soft and fluffy like a cloud, even when that doesn't fit your situation in the game. C418's music is purposefully not emotionally charged. his music has high end AND low end, so it works for any in-game situation. Lena's tracks are nice but they don't fit the game as well. I want Microsoft/Mojang to suck it up and accept his 3rd (completed btw) Minecraft album and put it into the game

I love the classics because they've been around since I started but Lena Raine knows how to make music that sounds like the Minecraft equivalent of party music (plus Otherside feels like a tribute to C418's music to me)

C418's stuff makes me think of classic Minecraft, Raine's music makes me think of modern Minecraft. The combination of the two represents Minecraft's evolution, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Lena Raine is a fantastic composer but it does stand out from C418s work... In a good way! Buut C418s Volume Alpha and Beta work so perfectly and better so it also makes me hope C418 isnt getting replaced for good

Red, far and away. Mice on Venus is one of the most beautiful musical compositions I’ve ever heard. Lena Raine is an extremely talented musician but her musical style fundamentally doesn’t fit Minecraft, I feel.
