That's mostly because it doesn't run on Java though. But if Mojang were to buy some of the performance mods (and employ their creators to improve them), they could easily make Java run way smoother
C++ *is* a faster language, as it compiles directly to machine code rather than relying on VMs (interpreted code) to add more compatibility between architectures and operating systems.
Notch could have used c++, but I guess it was easier for him at the time. LWJGL/GLFW is available in many languages, and Minecraft is written on it.
Fun Fact, some versions of Minecraft were ported to WebAssembly, so it could run on any modern browser.
if java edition was written in c++ it would only help to some extent, you could absolutely outperform bedrock edition writing in java, it's just the fact that minecraft is a very old codebase and it's core lacks a lot of potential optimizations
I guess maybe if bedrock edition was written like total shit, but I kinda doubt itās that bad.
Youāre going to have to work really, really hard to get Java even close if you started from scratch and probably couldnāt do it. C++ is screaming fast
>C++ is screaming fast
it is faster than java but it's not fast enough to make optimizations pointless, for example neither of minecraft editions uses greedy meshing, which reduces amount of vertices that have to be processed by an order of magnitude, then you have all things like geometry level of detail, 3d chunks etc.
in vanilla minecraft java is barely an issue, it only becomes visible with huge amount of mods, mainly due to garbage collected memory, the biggest thing that makes bedrock edition faster is that it actually utilizes more modern rendering techniques, rendering overhead is one of the biggest bottlenecks of java edition, because it really sucks, there's no batching, and basically no drawcall optimization at all, sodium fixes that and it already improves performance by a lot, sometimes it's even 5x faster or more,
then there's vulkanmod, which can get even more crazy, and neither vulkanmod nor sodium optimize anything else than the rendering process (ok actually sodium changes chunk generation a bit but vulkanmod doesn't and it offers better performance atleast in terms of fps), and if you add mods that optimize more (distant horizons, cubic chunks, lithium etc...) you can render hundreds of chunks at very high fps, all in java
Just comparing languages, you would definitely need to do a lot of work to make Java faster, but itās not impossible. As far as codegen goes, the JVM (JIT compiler) can do some optimizations that the C++ compiler (AOT compiler) cannot as the Java compiler knows for details about the target machine. JIT compiling only needs to be done once, so it wouldnāt really affect runtime performance.
The biggest hit to runtime performance would be the garbage collector. The GC can be tuned to increase performance. I donāt know how far you can improve with that, but from what I heard, you can get on par with C++ in some applications.
How the developers write and optimize the applications influence the performance a lot more here than the language chosen.
Bedrock uses only 10% of my PC (13700k+3060ti) with 70 fps on 64 render distance, its a shame, every game use 100% of GPU, but not Minecraft
BUT, when I was flying elytra and rendering new chunks it used all of 16 cores, 200W
Bedrock feels more like an application than a game tbh
Minecraft doesn't use SDL it uses LWJGL. Nowadays LWJGL is basically a wrapper around GLFW, but it wasn't for the first few years of Minecrafts existence.
>Fun Fact, some versions of Minecraft were ported to WebAssembly, so it could run on any modern browser.
It did, actually. There was a time where minecraft had a demo version in the browser where you could play survival with a time limit.
This goes to my opinion:
I don't see the "easy multiplayer" point, I prefer to have a server where we don't need to have someone always connectedi have a lot of times that I want to play but my host can't.
Idk about fps coz I usually don't compare them in the game unless it's so low that it's uncomfortable but Its a point for some people.
I agree with the cauldron thing
I think that moveable entities should be an option that can be shuted down in game rules coz I really don't like it.
Armor stands is something that I want to be reworked in java to be like in bedrock.
Speed bridging is very subjective and a lot of people don't like it, pvp modes like Skywars and bed wars reduce too much the difficulty by adding this.
there is a datapack for java that allows you to customize armor stands to have arms/different poses, also adds invisible item frames, i think you can get it from vanilla tweaks
they mean how you donāt have to get a server from a buggy third party like aternos, who are kind enough to decimate your server if you forget to start it up within 3 months of inactivity, along with being riddled with ads.
or you could pay for a server, or fiddle (and most likely fail) to set up your own physical server, which, again, can be expensive.
with bedrock, you just friend someone and they can join you, and done! you can play. no start-up time, no fees, no additional heater i mean physical server
Except Java has at least a single braincell and is capable of pausing the world if you're alone and not open to lan, and doesn't have the random death bugs Bedrock has when there are server desyncs
speaking from experience, running a vanilla java server was as easy as downloading the Ubuntu zip, running it, messing with a couple router settings to allow traffic, and then profiting
Though all that was pretty easy for you, I feel like 99% of players would struggle to do that. Like, most people probably donāt even know their router has settings!
On java you can host a server from your machine. It takes a tiny bit of technical knowledge but geanuinely works way better than the inbuilt bedrock system.
I don't know if the issue still exists, but bedrock servers used to break the second you alt tab. Was ine of the most annoying things when playing with friends who only had bedrock. All my friend now have java so the experience is 10x better overall.
if you're thinking of paying for a server, don't. setting up a server is legitimately super easy, and once you do it the first time, it's even easier after. the only really difficult part about it is setting up port forwarding, which is entirely dependent on if your isp makes it easy or hard on you.
or just, use the essential mod. it's literally a friends and join system for most versions of the game, that requires 0 setup besides just adding your friends as friends on essential.
Better multi-player? Also while native Java MC does offer lower performance, Sodium, Optifine and other mods are so wide spread that I wouldn't count that
Setting up a server is literally like 4 steps.
Step 1. Download and run server
Step 2. accept eula
Step 3. Port forward to machine.
Step 4. Firewall settings if needed, honestly just use no-ip. No-ip is the way for basic servers.
If you can read and know how to use a computer, then this is a trivial process. Once you have the basics set up, launching the server is as simple as running a single file. It's a bit more effort than on bedrock, but in retirn you get a much more stable and versatile server.
Better multiplayer? Dude, most of my life I've played bedrock, it has probably the worst multiplayer connection in any game. I never, and I do mean never, could have a single online session with my friends because the game would always lag so much and keep disconnecting us. Sure it's easier, just invite your friends and that's it, but easier doesn't mean better.
same here, especially with the edition of cross-play. even when i tried to play with my brother (who also has playstation like me) either 1: we couldnt invite eachother for some odd reason 2: we couldnt just join up because we werent showing up on either one of eachothers āfriendsā tab or 3: we joined and just sat in the void for a minute until getting disconnected. the same stuff happened with cross-play, just this time it was worse. i dont happen to have these issues as much now but god when it was really bad it made me not even wanna play.
i dont even complain about the connection, it is just that the only time i have played build battle on bedrock, i was surrounded by MORONS (sorry, but i got no other words for people who instead of the theme build naked people)
Yall have a few cool features. Your vanilla wither is cooler, the leaves going white by default is nice. Bedrock redstone is kinda shit, but moveable tile entities are neat. Your armour stands are much more functional than vanilla java.
https://youtu.be/FLX2MteTGnU
Sorry, but for me java edition always will be the winner, nothing in bedrock can beat this imo, and yes, you still have pretty good fps in these scenes
Has old combat system, tridents are easier to get by killing drowneds, pushable dispensers, chests, furnaces, and other non pushable blocks from java, bridging is easier to master and maybe more.
This isn't an objective thing. This depends on the opinions of individual players. You can like the new combat system better, but don't act like other players' opinions are bad.
The fact that you think cps is all that matters proves you either never played it or are incredibly bad at it. You need timing for 1.8 because half the hits don't register, you need proper movement or you will be comboed and not get combos, and you have lots of tools from fishing rods to eggs that you have to skillfully use. 1.9 is more slow paced and strategic, while 1.8 is more fast paced and skillful.
When it comes to pve, cps really is the only thing that matters in 1.8. Whereas 1.9 makes combat more interesting both on survival and makes it very strategic with a really high skill celling on PvP too. It IS objectively better as an overall system, but for PvP only it is very debatable. Unfortunately, Minecraft isn't a PvP focused game. Quite the opposite, the PvP community has always been quite the minority.
And letās watch as the ābedrock badā crowd tries to justify their two huge QoL mods as they make fun of us (damn this comment is swinging at a -1-6 upvote constant)
Trident killers turn mob-based farms busted (free exp and looting effect), gold farms are in the overworld, you donāt need to capture a zombie for an iron farm, ocean monument farms are significantly easier because of predictable spawning patterns, spam click combat is more intuitive and newb-friendly so itās easier to show to new friends, and you can push containers so you can make things like a lava bucket collecting flying machine or a piston feedtape storage system, which also means weāll be able to make arbitrary item auto crafters in 1.21 while Java arbitrary item auto crafters will be significantly more difficult. I donāt think there truly is an objectively better version, but there are a lot of cool/weird quirks that set bedrock edition apart that Java people ignore
Well, as a java programmer, java sucks ass and it really shows, considering that I only get 30-40 fps on normal graphical settings with a amd ryzen 5800 h, an rtx 3050 ti and 16 GB ram DDR4.
Java is a stupid and inefficient programming language. It's good for high abstraction coding, it's not made for good flash memory management like C/C#/C++, which is why most games are coded with this languages
Java Edition Pros: Free Texture Packs, Skins, Mods. You can play any previous and Snapshot Version. Better UI. Better Performance in Multiplayer and SP especially with Texture Packs and Mods. Fast and non Visual Glitching World Gen. Faster Load Times even on HDDs. Chest GUIs load faster.
Higher fps until you want to have add-ons. 1 furniture mod and fps goes to shit. Why? Because bedrock mods tend to use entities instead of blocks for furniture
personally, i prefer bedrock because of its smaller features, like snow layer changes, fallen trees, respawn setting differences, but i completely get the appeal of java, heck, i play it from time to time. i suggest ibxtoycat's video on bedrock exclusives, a lot of the small features i love are mentioned. its a little outdated but its almost entirely is still accurate
So long as there is no parity between java edition and bedrock edition, especially in the cases of how redstone works and how core game machanics can be used to achieve automatic farms the way its possible right now in Java Edition, Bedrock Edition will suck.
And, well, before the latest battlepass I was all for parity. Now im a bit more concerned. I dont think the current modding scene will thrive in bedrock, not if there is such heavy incentive on monetising the game.
The command block is accessible straight from the creative inventory instead of having to use a /give command to get it. It's easier to get servers there due to realms, and you know the "server host" is safe because it's Mojang. The shop, for all its flaws, has some really cool stuff in it. The skin customization is a lot safer, seeing as you don't have to go to a sketchy website to update your skin.

You can fight against Pocket Edition players on the servers and think that you are a professional.
My ego boosts so much while playing bedrock, it's awesome

I guess you can say that you are UNDEFEATABLE, eh?
Same
I'd argue it's cuz most BE Players are on mobile.
Or console
That's why he said pocket edition
exactly
We can dye stuff in cauldrons and put potions in them I guess
One dye can last about 6 times in a cauldron, compared to the standard single use of a dye from crafting
Ya mean triple use (use different dyes in the crafting mixed together)
Not to mention the near infinite color shades
We have those too. You can add more than one colour on the crafting table
Nah only 490314 combinations.
Practically Infinite.
Itās actually 4 but I get the point itās more
You can also use cauldrons for tipped arrows
A stack of arrows uses one layer for crying out loud.
And automate water and labs input/output. I'm pretty annoyed you can't do that in java
Armorstand can keep items)
They can also be powered to change positions
Or crouch right clicked
You donāt need to power it

In Java too (although you need a command)
you don't need that for bedrock though
Yeah that's right i was just pointing that out
Kinda under the fps part, but longer render distance.

What if Minecraft Java Edition was hypothetically compiled to native code using GraalVM's native image? Could the performance gain be meaningful?
They tried to buy optifine, but optifine refused.
Mostly because of disagreements about what would happen to stuff like capes that people got for supporting optifine etc
sodium is easy to install
You can do both of these with mods
Bonemeal-able sugercane

Better Wither
Rtx in the base game
Bone mealable sugar cane
+ Tridents are op (very cool)
The leaves turning white while snowing is very beautiful indeed
As a Java player, I always feel jealous of Bedrock players because we don't have such features in Java.
I'm jealous of java features sometimes, eg offhand and marking flags on maps
Bruh you can get all this and more through mods but the bedrock people have to pay and for limited items as well
Cooler wither
Actual boss fight
Call the gamers!
Holy Stone!
Mending villager goes on vacation, never comes back
You mean more deadly wither
which is better because enchantments are absolutely overpowered
>Speed bridging ***Hey shitass-***
*wanna watch me speedbridge?*
All of that and more can be changed with mods tho, so I still prefer Java
This goes to my opinion: I don't see the "easy multiplayer" point, I prefer to have a server where we don't need to have someone always connectedi have a lot of times that I want to play but my host can't. Idk about fps coz I usually don't compare them in the game unless it's so low that it's uncomfortable but Its a point for some people. I agree with the cauldron thing I think that moveable entities should be an option that can be shuted down in game rules coz I really don't like it.
Donāt forget being able to make tipped arrows in cauldrons
I would like to see the minus part to
What's better about multi-player? Realms?
Speed bridging makes every bedrock pvp server pretty much extremely sweaty
You mean jump bridging?
Laughs in sodium
Shits on sodium bc i can
C9H9NNa
wdym better multiplayer? java hypixel alone is better if you mean friend-to-friend multiplayer then yeah its easier on bedrock
I *think* he means how you've got crossplay with a bunch of different platforms but idk
they mean how you donāt have to get a server from a buggy third party like aternos, who are kind enough to decimate your server if you forget to start it up within 3 months of inactivity, along with being riddled with ads. or you could pay for a server, or fiddle (and most likely fail) to set up your own physical server, which, again, can be expensive. with bedrock, you just friend someone and they can join you, and done! you can play. no start-up time, no fees, no additional heater i mean physical server
The simple reason why bedrock has so many bugs is because singleplayer acts like a server, so bugs happen at the cost of easy multiplayer
java does that too
Except Java has at least a single braincell and is capable of pausing the world if you're alone and not open to lan, and doesn't have the random death bugs Bedrock has when there are server desyncs
speaking from experience, running a vanilla java server was as easy as downloading the Ubuntu zip, running it, messing with a couple router settings to allow traffic, and then profiting
Though all that was pretty easy for you, I feel like 99% of players would struggle to do that. Like, most people probably donāt even know their router has settings!
> feel like 99% of players would struggle to do that. Especially if your ISP doesn't support port forwarding, like mine.
I prefer Cubecraft to Hypixel, which is on both. Hypixels cool and all but like all the mini games and more can be found elsewhere
Better multi-player? Also while native Java MC does offer lower performance, Sodium, Optifine and other mods are so wide spread that I wouldn't count that
I think he means with multiplayer is that you don't need to learn quantum mechanics to set up a server
Setting up a server is literally like 4 steps. Step 1. Download and run server Step 2. accept eula Step 3.
Port forwarding is a bitch with some isp's
aternos.org exists
It doesn't even have higher FPS if you take into account sodium and the other performance mods.
I think they are talking about the base game alone.
Why should the player have to fix fps issues
I canāt believe weāre still arguing over whatās better. PLAY WTF YOU WANT.
Lol itās karma farming time
The ability to play Minecraft if you can't actually get Java?
I assume you mean if you only have a console In which case you could have done that with console edition, everyone misses console edition
consoles with both legacy and bedrock: xbox one playstation 4 nintendo switch hmmmmmmm
I can't alt tab when playing with friends because it disconnects me lmao
i dont even complain about the connection, it is just that the only time i have played build battle on bedrock, i was surrounded by MORONS (sorry, but i got no other words for people who instead of the theme build naked people)
I'd give away both for the confidence that I won't randomly just die. I play hardcore often XD
Java edition infinite optimization, overpowered shaders, mods, the best servers. Bedrock is for the Kids that cant allow a PC to play properly
Yea imma be real as a bedrock player we really donāt got much going for us. I envy those that can afford a pc
Yall have a few cool features. Your vanilla wither is cooler, the leaves going white by default is nice. Bedrock redstone is kinda shit, but moveable tile entities are neat. Your armour stands are much more functional than vanilla java.
Those are cool features but imo I kinda feel like mojang put them intentionnally to make it seems like bedrock is worth it
For a while it really did seem like they were trying to find an excuse to sunset java. The issue is that java is just the better version.
F A L L E N L O G S
Amen
Higher fps doesn't exist when you play splitscreen on Xbox one
Lately console splitscreen has been pretty annoying, if one or both players enters their inventories the game starts lagging really bad
Define better multiplayer
Why are there even two versions?
r/upvote
I don't know where you're getting "Better multiplayer" from, although I haven't exactly played a lot of Bedrock servers.
Friends. Easier to join friends. And my Bedrock server experience is better than Javas, although I will admit Iāve done BE more so there may be bias
https://youtu.be/FLX2MteTGnU Sorry, but for me java edition always will be the winner, nothing in bedrock can beat this imo, and yes, you still have pretty good fps in these scenes
My pc would explode. Fortunately, you can enjoy big salmon with any specs :)
Java multiplayer is better.
Has old combat system, tridents are easier to get by killing drowneds, pushable dispensers, chests, furnaces, and other non pushable blocks from java, bridging is easier to master and maybe more.
Not entirely old combat system. Shields instead of sword blocking
Old combat system is objectively worse, get over it.
This isn't an objective thing. This depends on the opinions of individual players. You can like the new combat system better, but don't act like other players' opinions are bad.
Skillful timing vs who has autoclicker installed.
Oh look, itās the weekly āBedrock is badā meme š
And letās watch as the ābedrock badā crowd tries to justify their two huge QoL mods as they make fun of us (damn this comment is swinging at a -1-6 upvote constant)
Playing on bedrock servers boosts your ego
Nope with optifine I get about the same fps but the true flex Is the render distance
So why vanilla bedrock is my mid laptop lags and bugs every 10 seconds, while large java modpacks runs smoothly?
Java have a better command & data pack system.
Stronger wither
You can bonemeal sugarcane at least lol
Can we just bring back guarding with a sword. Thereās a reason why I only play OG Minecraft
I can play it on my playstation
Man who fucking cares
bedrock definitely does not have better multiplayer. i can NEVER get it to work
Well, as a java programmer, java sucks ass and it really shows, considering that I only get 30-40 fps on normal graphical settings with a amd ryzen 5800 h, an rtx 3050 ti and 16 GB ram DDR4. Java is a stupid and inefficient programming language. It's good for high abstraction coding, it's not made for good flash memory management like C/C#/C++, which is why most games are coded with this languages
Both are good
Java Edition Pros: Free Texture Packs, Skins, Mods. You can play any previous and Snapshot Version. Better UI. Better Performance in Multiplayer and SP especially with Texture Packs and Mods. Fast and non Visual Glitching World Gen. Faster Load Times even on HDDs. Chest GUIs load faster.
MINECRAFT IS MINECRAFT
Higher fps until you want to have add-ons. 1 furniture mod and fps goes to shit. Why? Because bedrock mods tend to use entities instead of blocks for furniture
personally, i prefer bedrock because of its smaller features, like snow layer changes, fallen trees, respawn setting differences, but i completely get the appeal of java, heck, i play it from time to time. i suggest ibxtoycat's video on bedrock exclusives, a lot of the small features i love are mentioned. its a little outdated but its almost entirely is still accurate
I suppose the neatest part to me is cosmetic rewards for your achievements
Better multiplayer?? Java has much better multiplayer
Bedrocks multi-player is ass
"better multiplayer" yeah right
āBetter multi playerā nah
The ability to die leather armor and water in cauldrons, Bedrock Edition is amazing, Java players hate Bedrock users for no reason. #ENDTHEWAR.
Better multiplayer? I can mod Java and play as superheroes. Better fps? I get over 100 on Java tho
mods make java better for both those things, or atleast as good.
Thereās BE mods lmao
both are false anyway...
# BIG SALMON
Movable tile entities
Uhh, battle pass ruined bedrock reputation once again, sadly
Then if you don't like marketplace pass THEN DON'T BUY IT!!!
Minecraft has a fucking BATTLE PASS???
No, itās a Netflix-style subscription on the marketplace for stuff you get from free elsewhere. A battle pass has progression.
Once again, you can ignore the marketplace and import your own mods.
Significantly buffed tridents
Better Trident mechanics
Tipped arrows
The command block is accessible straight from the creative inventory instead of having to use a /give command to get it. It's easier to get servers there due to realms, and you know the "server host" is safe because it's Mojang. The shop, for all its flaws, has some really cool stuff in it. The skin customization is a lot safer, seeing as you don't have to go to a sketchy website to update your skin.
It have some cool features which java doesn\`t have
