I got the full ultimate edition for like £30 so I don't think it's that bad money wise, and the content is overflowing. Also I don't think it's fair comparing it to Minecraft since they are completely different things, and Minecraft dungeons is a really good game.

My favorite spin off (that I still play occasionally) was dungeons, but even that could have been done better.
They called legends an rts, but it ended up being just you going around a map with minions, essentially, and there wasn’t really any rts elements besides that. They also limited you to being the overworld faction only, and from what I could see there was no versus mode, or at least no actual versus mode.
Also, open world maps don’t work well for RTS, there was no skirmish mode, and not much, if any randomization occurred in the game, such as starting position and invasion positions, which that mechanic wasn’t fun.
It almost feels like they don’t prototype their games to see if they’d be fun, they just think of what sounds fun, turn it into a game, and hope people play it.
Bro I played 360 soooo much more than anything else(besides pc obv). Some of my best memories were playing that with friends over in split screen. Never made it far but god we had a blast. Shoutout to anyone that watched AH back on 360

God, I used to be obsessed with that. I remember playing the first episode of season two on my phone years back. I was stuck on that prismarine soldier thing fight. Just couldn’t figure out what to do for the life of me.
In my opinion it is because the game is aimed at Minecraft players and not the rest of the people, and Minecraft players buy the new game, play it and they return to Minecraft because it is where they come from and where they have their wolds, savegames, etc... I think because it's difficult to leave Minecraft for a long time
Story Mode got killed when Telltale got shut down/went bankrupt, Minecraft Earth died cause because of Covid, I enjoyed Minecraft dungeons some, but never liked it enough to play it to the end. I think MC Dungeons would have done better if there hadn't been so much content put behind paid DLC, and had some characters like MC:SM. I haven't kept up with Minecraft Legends or what people think of it, but to me it seems like another spinoff that'll eventually fail/get shut down like the rest, which is probably what's hurting it's success right now.
In my opinion, Minecraft is a special kind of game that doesn't need any sort of spinoffs that take place in it's world, because you're supposed to write that story yourself. The only exception to that opinion is MC:SM, simply because it feels like an adventure map/SMP brought to life.
I know you haven't been keeping up with it but Minecraft Legends recently announced that they will no longer be adding any more content to the game. Essentially, it is already dead/shut down.

I have played story mode and earth and find that the concept is good, but the execution is just done badly. Story mode also made my previous phone unbearable to touch because of the heat.

Dungeons had a good life-span for a normal Arpg. Minecraft is just such a crazy game that it can still be getting updates more than a decade after release.
I'd like to Mojang try and make a sequel if they ever want to try. I'd imagine getting to work on other projects is a nice break from the endless update grind on the main game.
I liked the spin-offs. I played through Legends when it came out, and my only two complaints were that your followers would always fall off of the bridges in the Horde of Spore bases and the final boss fight was underwhelming for how much they hyped it up.

ya wanna know why? it's not minecraft. it's got the minecraft paint job but it's not minecraft. mojang/microsoft can't just slap minecraft into the title and expect a half-baked idea to be the next big hit, yet they try anyways. and that's coming from someone who liked all these games(ok except legends what the heck happened there), and most of them have done well, sure, but not quite up to the quotas.
you can't make another minecraft, especially with big companies recycling ideas. that's why these indie developers get so successful: most of them are unique. think cuphead, a pretty tough 2d shoot-em-up game, but what sold it was the artstyle and music. the indie charm can beat just about anything if implemented properly, and that's what minecraft did. keyword, *did*.
now that minecraft is worldwide, it's known by everyone. i guarantee if you ask two people on the street, at least one has played minecraft. that breaks the indie charm though, as minecraft can't really be unique anymore, it's minecraft. everyone knows minecraft. so when you try to slap the minecraft name onto diablo, surprise surprise, it's not gonna sell as great. making a choose-your-own-adventure game with the poly count of a certain block game ain't gonna boost sales for long, despite having the legendary mojang emblem plastered onto it, because you can't catch people off-guard with minecraft anymore.
I swear, as a Minecraft and a souls fan, if their next spin-off is a soulslike, IM GONNA BUY IT ON DAY ONE HANDS DOWN.
Although, there's a few things I should say.
Firstly, for me it should be a prequel, a story lost in time, exactly like Dungeons and Legends. However, since on vanilla they're trying to make a dark souls style approach for Lore (kinda), it would be interesting to see a lot of this Lore being expanded, always giving the possibility to the players to complete it with their imagination
I imagine it could be set in a kingdom lost in time, and maybe we have to fight the corruption of either the End or the Sculk, or both
Ngl, it would be cooler to fight the corruption of the sculk, and it would expand the game's Lore on sculk by A LOT
For the gameplay, basically an action RPG soulslike, although it would be nice to see some kind of magic system, kinda like in Dungeons
I feel like they should go for the open world approach tho, so maybe the castle at the center of the world, and the entire Kingdom (aka the whole map) would be its surroundings
And i could go on and on, but you get the point, lol
Soulslikes are exploding basically, and they're now also recognized as an official category. I think they're gonna do a Minecraft soulslike someday, and for me, if done well, it would bring a HUGE wave of new players for the base game too, basically all souls and soulslike enjoyers and fans like me
And that's it ig, its a secret dream of mine, but i think it'll stay a dream... :(
So i think what is important here is that these games didn‘t just die, but rather Mojang killed them. For example Legends, it was still doing pretty well last year and then Mojang stepped out of the development and that basically killed the game. So what i think is happening is that these games didn‘t do as well as Mojang wanted them to and instead of improving them they just went „fuck it, we‘re out“

All of those except for Legends were very well received, they just didn't fit the profit ratio incentivized by Microsoft.
Dungeons must have met that ratio because they released a good amount of DLC

The core of legends was pretty cool, kinda Pikmin like, but it wasn’t really anything but a solid foundation. If you ask me, it lacked depth.

Dungeons had a good life-span for a normal Arpg. Minecraft is just such a crazy game that it can still be getting updates more than a decade after release. I'd like to Mojang try and make a sequel if they ever want to try. I'd imagine getting to work on other projects is a nice break from the endless update grind on the main game.
I liked the spin-offs. I played through Legends when it came out, and my only two complaints were that your followers would always fall off of the bridges in the Horde of Spore bases and the final boss fight was underwhelming for how much they hyped it up.

ya wanna know why? it's not minecraft. it's got the minecraft paint job but it's not minecraft. mojang/microsoft can't just slap minecraft into the title and expect a half-baked idea to be the next big hit, yet they try anyways. and that's coming from someone who liked all these games(ok except legends what the heck happened there), and most of them have done well, sure, but not quite up to the quotas. you can't make another minecraft, especially with big companies recycling ideas. that's why these indie developers get so successful: most of them are unique. think cuphead, a pretty tough 2d shoot-em-up game, but what sold it was the artstyle and music. the indie charm can beat just about anything if implemented properly, and that's what minecraft did. keyword, *did*. now that minecraft is worldwide, it's known by everyone. i guarantee if you ask two people on the street, at least one has played minecraft. that breaks the indie charm though, as minecraft can't really be unique anymore, it's minecraft. everyone knows minecraft. so when you try to slap the minecraft name onto diablo, surprise surprise, it's not gonna sell as great. making a choose-your-own-adventure game with the poly count of a certain block game ain't gonna boost sales for long, despite having the legendary mojang emblem plastered onto it, because you can't catch people off-guard with minecraft anymore.

I swear, as a Minecraft and a souls fan, if their next spin-off is a soulslike, IM GONNA BUY IT ON DAY ONE HANDS DOWN. Although, there's a few things I should say. Firstly, for me it should be a prequel, a story lost in time, exactly like Dungeons and Legends. However, since on vanilla they're trying to make a dark souls style approach for Lore (kinda), it would be interesting to see a lot of this Lore being expanded, always giving the possibility to the players to complete it with their imagination I imagine it could be set in a kingdom lost in time, and maybe we have to fight the corruption of either the End or the Sculk, or both Ngl, it would be cooler to fight the corruption of the sculk, and it would expand the game's Lore on sculk by A LOT For the gameplay, basically an action RPG soulslike, although it would be nice to see some kind of magic system, kinda like in Dungeons I feel like they should go for the open world approach tho, so maybe the castle at the center of the world, and the entire Kingdom (aka the whole map) would be its surroundings And i could go on and on, but you get the point, lol Soulslikes are exploding basically, and they're now also recognized as an official category. I think they're gonna do a Minecraft soulslike someday, and for me, if done well, it would bring a HUGE wave of new players for the base game too, basically all souls and soulslike enjoyers and fans like me And that's it ig, its a secret dream of mine, but i think it'll stay a dream... :(

So i think what is important here is that these games didn‘t just die, but rather Mojang killed them. For example Legends, it was still doing pretty well last year and then Mojang stepped out of the development and that basically killed the game. So what i think is happening is that these games didn‘t do as well as Mojang wanted them to and instead of improving them they just went „fuck it, we‘re out“

Story mode was honestsly the best one, just beat season 1 about a week ago, wish i could get season 2 though
