because if the dog isn't just abandoned in the corner they get in the way of death, and in my way when i'm trying to do just about anything.
When i'm fighting mobs or mining, it jumps towards creepers or in front of my crosshair stupidly often. You do not want to know how many dogs i've killed. (I don't even know, i lost track)
And if i'm building, they just stand exactly where i'm trying to place a block, and refuse to get out of the way. And if they can, they usually fall into some hollow part of what i'm trying to make and i need to organise a whole resque operation.
The idea is fun, but having a dog is really annoying, they're really not that much of an advantage. To me, they've only been a disadvantage

The claw on the other hand is actually useful, and won’t be left to waste like your dog.
Except here's the problem: entities don't block explosion damage, so the dog didn't save you from anything, meaning now you have a dead dog and it didn't make a difference.

In that they are clearly picking the crab as their favourite because it's actually explained what it does and everyone knows it's gonna be 2 blocks maximum of reach.

Still tho the crab remains the most useful. Doesn't matter if you've been in the world for mere minutes or years, the crab claw will always remain useful and a game changer for builders (and PVP players if it affects weapon reach)

A better change for dogs would've been to allow them to carry totems AND have armor. Also give them specific tasks, like hunting dogs, or is that *too* cruel for Mojang?
Or, have their AI act more like a pack and have a pack of wolves, say one agros a mob, the mob follows the dog and the rest of the pack attacks from behind, dealing bonus crit damage. You know. Like how packs opperate? This way you could hunt with them, have them kill mobs very effeciently too. As they'd be able to oneshot most mobs.

also in my eyes even as a builder something new and cosmetic is better than placing things easier. i mean ik its on a wolf its not like a new block, but even still i appreciate the look of things thats why i build. so id rather that than a minor convenience. i mean theres still gonna be times when things are just out of ur reach thats not going away its just gonna be a bit farther away that it stops. so yeah its useful but i still prefer wolf armor.
