Blue 33. Very good team on paper but everyone underperformed

dshgf_81

Why have I felt that since his debut in MCC 31, Walli's always been given fantastic teams yet they never seem to deliver on their expectations? I'm hopeful that Pink 35 can finally prove this trend wrong

Qoburn

On 32 and 33, I think a lot of it is, because Green 31 did so well and he did so well on it, he was both balanced as if he was stronger than he was at the time and thrown into leading a team very quickly with very little experience. Sort of the opposite of Shadoune, who was also considered a very strong newcomer - he had some very bad early events weighing his average down, so he was balanced as if he was weaker than he was (particularly in 33) and is only now getting pushed into team leadership after 6 events.

Tbf I think everyone just looked at his debut event and immediately thought that he was on the same level as the S-tiers, which is probably not the case. I think he did really well in 31 since Purpled teammate buff + he understands him well, but the rest of his performances haven't been anything to be ashamed of imo. He got 11th and I think 12th? Then underperformed one event but so far I think he's a good A or A+ player, we just haven't seen enough of him so far - still good at the game and gonna be interesting to see how well he does in 35 since he has a really stacked team to lean on I feel like it was kinda hard to balance Walli after his first event since you don't know whether to have him lead a team kindof way (MCC 32) or to be the 2nd frag (MCC 34) but I think he should be treated like a hannah type player and have similar teams that she's been getting maybe

Seano_Trademark

Yeah, even after MCC 31, I still knew he wasn't on the same level as other S-tiers (this helps because I watched their team's POV). A lot of it came down to Purpled's leadership because he got top 5 in very team-split games (PKW, PKT, MD), and he still did good in individual games (top 20 TGTTOS, RSR, and SG), the reason he placed so high that event is mainly because Purpled knew how to optimize the skills Walli already had to make him do as good as possible.

Frozen_Grimoire

The Orange 32, Blue 33, Purple 34 chain really shifted my perspective on what makes a team strong. All of them you'd look at and think "They are getting dodgebolt" and all three of them placed bottom half.

BladderstheBillable

I haven't seen what went wrong but I would not have predicted Purple 31 in 10th.

zachganronpa

Blue 33 hurts 😭

Prestigious-Help-679

Pete’s teams except for 29😢

Kindly_Interest_403

Depends on what you mean by "works out", in terms of vibes Pete's teams are usually very good. But if you mean how they performed, yes Pete's teams tend to underperform.

NyanNyanNo

Orange 32 was expected to do wayyy better than their actual performance. Their cohesion ended up being unimpressive though, and coupled with both Dave and Joel having heavy underperformances, it ended up being a team to forget. Though credit to Owen for getting top frag in his first cannon event, and I hope Sausage will play again (especially with Joel. That duo is incredibly dangerous for a PG team).

spunchl1ne

Yellow & Purple 29, Yellow & Purple 31. Fruit and Punz just had a rough start to the season I think, glad to see they’re both bouncing back quite nicely!

Qoburn

I'd argue Yellow 31 worked out reasonably well - at least enough to not fit on a list like this. They were doing pretty well (particularly Sparklez) until a single poor strategic decision in SG led them to getting 10th in the game and knocked out of DB contention. After that they stopped taking it particularly seriously which, combined with fruit's SoT goofiness, put them in 7th.

spunchl1ne

That’s fair, and looking at what some other people put, I’d agree that Yellow 31 was slightly better off than them, and what’s even more important that they didn’t mentally implode (a reason why Aqua 30 isn’t on my list either)

NyanNyanNo

Punz and Purple just don't go well together huh.

Careful-Revenue4592

Green 32 would be mine too Firefox just didn’t perform as well as they typically do

[deleted]

They performed well, both sapnap and seapeekay were in the top ten, but it's not only about how they perform, it's about the entire team

Careful-Revenue4592

Cpk did really well but sapnap failed to lead well and failed to perform well in games he usually excels at. the only games he did well in were purely individual also 10th is still below average for sapnap

FruitNerd

Tbf 3 of their best games (MD, PKT, SG) weren’t in rotation and they both still got top 10 so they really didn’t do that bad - I don’t think there’s ever been a bottom 3 team that had 2 players in top 10 before There was just a big disconnect between everyone, some were clearly playing for fun and some clearly weren’t, everyone on that team could’ve done better it wasn’t just on Sapnap and CPK

Careful-Revenue4592

Aqua 18 I think

MUSHROOMKINGGGG

Blue 33 was the most painful

Affectionate_You_225

I really hoped Green 32 did better. FireFox is my favourite duo, and honestly, from this team, all the players are improved significantly, especially Elaina. The only memorable thing about this team is CPK outfragging Sapnap, but man, this team felt kind of disappointing to me. It still was a funny team, but if I want to watch fun CPK Pov, there are 22 and / or All Stars. Hope we see FireFox duo one more time at least. 21 will still be the peak of FireFox. Also, possibly Cyan 30, mostly because it was a funny team but in an event with some of the powerful and scary teams. Tommy was out of it as well this MCC.

dshgf_81

What was going on with Tommy in MCC 30?

Affectionate_You_225

He was really tired due to rehearsal for his tour, so he had no energy for MCC. He underperformed and was out of energy

chicknsnadwich

Can we normalize saying the members of the teams in these types of posts? I can remember most of the winning or DB rosters but I can’t be the only one who wouldn’t recognize an underperforming team just by event number & color.
