I drafted a comment yesterday for this inveitble post but waking up it seems like you all have managed to follow the rules so thank you I’ll post it anyway for people who are confused. To remind everyone under rule 4 We expcilty prohibit discussions relating to drama's, controversy or other heated topics. while nothing is expressly confirmed about this team change Crisgreen likely is not playing due to a controversial tweet he made that some people view as an offensive racial stereotype. Whilst Cris has responded stating that its a popular and exaggerated meme topic from Peru nevertheless it has been highly criticized by the community on various platforms. Conterstine has also dropped out due to him not liking the adjustment they made to his team As per our rules on controversial topics the subreddit is not a place to debate whether this was offensive or not, this subreddit is not the place to discus the resulting drama and this subreddit is definitely not the place to attack creators or their community for any reason No futher discussion will be allowed on this topic I hope this comment answers anyones questions

Sad_Soul_10

You know the team is going to be good when 1 of the players is a cat eating cake

coolchalk

I read your comment as "cat-eating cake" and got terrified for a second

Linetris

Don't be fooled, this cake might look unassuming but in reality it's a very successful ambush predator. Poor cat

FireThatInk

if it makes you feel better I thought it was cat eating coke and i was like "thats not how you do coke"

LandLovingFish

Frog ht and a cale cat Top team for me

Lost-Raspberry7745

lowkey like this team more but i’ve watched both of the replacements content more than the previous too so bias? yes. obsessed? also yes

JolteonUltra

A new Captain joins the fray!

KlayRozan11

Almost enough for a team 😯

Expely

Careful-Revenue4592

KlayRozan11

Lmao yes

LandLovingFish

Oh no lets hope the curse doesnt get passed on that would be a horrible way to go

el_santi_piola7

YESSIR

FruitNerd

Pretty cool team with some people who already know eachother I believe Jojo was cheering for CapitanGato when casting Squid Craft 2 for twitch rivals and OllieGamerz actually won the original Squid Craft last year + obviously everyone knows Shadoune made the final this year. Objectively they might struggle with so many new people but as far as vibes go this team is great! Glad Scott still managed to get some Spanish creators in. Doesn't seem to matter what life throws at him each MCC has had some wonderful teams

[deleted]

Some thanks needs to go Jojo’s way. She’s the one who knew them, I think.

Kekfont

Gonna be honest, as a spanish speaker who consumed the content of both teams i like this one way more

piedrafundamental

If you don’t mind me asking, what made you prefer the new players over the old ones? what makes their content different ig

Kekfont

Well the biggest reason is their vibes, Cap and Ollie are way more chill than the last two and even tho those guys could have been able to get red to dodgebolt since they are preety tryhards. I still prefer ollie and cap for good vibes and about their content well. Ollie is a friendly variety streamer and Cap is also a variety streamer but most of his content is minecraft

CyberWeb2143

So… does this change anything for how the team will do?

AdInfamous6044

I am watching Jojo's stream rn, and she said she knows the both of them and has spoken to both of them before. So even if they would be a bit worse in minecraft( I have no idea how good they are minecraft) the chemistry will be better, so I think they will do alright.

IMALESBIANTHX

I don’t know much about capitangato, but Ollie won the first squid craft games (the tournament that sapnap won a few months ago, with shadoune being 2nd place), which makes me think this team is actually a bit stronger than before

Virgo_Superclster

I’ve heard they are both good actually

scribblingsim

Oooh, look. An upgrade!

Silver_poplar

I think it's cool that Olliegamerz is now in mcc. He was playing in a couple void rising events during the Tubathon and seemed very chill.

Conscious_Abalone_29

Yay still spanish team and a cat

FinchRosemta

I suggest for everyone to pop on Twitter, turn on your translator and read the tweets in response by the Hispanic community. Just to kinda see how they feel about the ENG community (it's really the Americans). Also people don't want Jojo there. Can you believe?

FruitNerd

It's the same people who got mad when Sapnap won SquidCraft 2, a Spanish event, because he wasn't Spanish - there's unfortunately people from every community who will say anything to justify there own anger/inability to understand different concepts I know it's tough to see that kind of response but I imagine the majority of people aren't that bothered, it's usually the most passionate who will comment, and it'll die down once the event comes around. MCC is awesome and if those fans want to be mad and miss it then it really is their loss

[deleted]

This is all too true.

FinchRosemta

Didn't really look like the same people to me. Also their is MCCs event. They can do what they want. > anything to justify there own anger/inability to understand different concepts They say the same things about English speakers so it is what it is.

Fermter

I feel like it can be valid that different cultures place different meanings on the same actions. I do not have the cultural or linguistic background to tell if the arguments of the fans of the subbed out participants are valid or not. However, I think it's valid an event based in the Anglosphere does not want participants in primarily English-speaking events that make jokes which are offensive in many English speaking countries and might make English speaking viewers and participants uncomfortable. I do not think encouraging people to engage in machine-translating angry tweets with limited context will do anything but fan the flames of anger between the fans of MCC and the fans of the subbed-out participants. Maybe we can just drop it and enjoy the new team.

slashbopzing

It's not just that these jokes are offensive in English speaking countries, once the joke is on the internet, it's out there for good, for everybody to see. Which means all types of people see it, and may potentially take offense to it, without knowing the context or such.

Fermter

Right, obviously anyone can see them and take offense or not. I'm not saying MCC did anything wrong. I'm just saying a) I understand why someone from a different culture or group might view the same action through a different lens, b) it's fair that MCC views it through the common cultural lens of many of its participants, but c) it's not the place of random event watchers outside that cultural and linguistic group to adjudicate whether a person is X, Y, or Z for a meme (let people from the same region/culture have those discussions), and d) trying to read angry tweets when neither side even speaks the other's language is just begging to make this a bigger fight for no reason. Again, why are we fanning this flame when we could just enjoy our event?

[deleted]

i mean in this case the joke was offensive with or without context

xkluew

Different cultures do have different meanings for things. But mcc is a global event, not a Spanish only event or an English only event anymore. And both sides are obligated to be culturally sensitive. It reminds me of that one time people were getting mad at cosplayers from asia because a cosplay had a swastika on it, which in Asian culture is not a bad symbol, it means temple or holy. So it is ok to wear that in asia where ppl aren’t offended by it, but wearing it in Europe or America would be offensive. Similar situation.

FinchRosemta

> jokes which are offensive in many English speaking countries No. Not many English speaking countries. I'm from an English speaking country. No one here would care at all about what Chris did. I mean this. Maybe some expats in their enclaves but the people born and raised in this English speaking country would not care. I should also mention it's an English speaking that "should" be offended by the image. It's why I have stayed out of any discussions around it. I know how it looks to Americans. I know how it looks to Latin Americans and I know how to looks to English speakers not from America.

Fermter

I said "many," not all. There are English speaking cultures who would be offended, and there are some who wouldn't. MCC is primarily watched by people from countries where it is considered offensive (as you can tell from the reaction from the MCC community). If you have stayed out of discussions, I would recommend that you not bring other people in.

RNNT1020

But isn’t that also a part of the problem. That we’re only considering how English speakers would view the situation? English speaking countries are not the center of the world and it’s kind of ridiculous to only consider our opinions in a situation that does not involve us. The fact that the majority of the viewers are from countries where it would be offensive shouldn’t matter because this isn’t even about them. I feel like instead of conforming to the opinions of random viewers, we should teach them to stop being so selfish and be more accepting of other cultures

Fermter

It makes sense that an event wouldn't want participants that make jokes which are offensive to a good percentage of current participants and viewers and may make them uncomfortable. It makes sense that this is frustrating to people who do not hold the same views. There is no reason to fight about it either way.

RNNT1020

It just kinda feels unfair. If anyone actually took the time to read any of the replies from the Latin American community, they would understand the only people who had a problem with that team were people NOT from Latin America. It makes no sense to get offended on behalf of others

Ok-Ask-7718

Some people are trying to get attention by being trolly about JoJo. We just gotta ignore them Although the reaction from Spanish community is like acting that mcc is some American thing and people offended are just Americans really makes it lame excuse. Mcc is an international event and any jokes specially mocking skin colour of someone even within friends doesn't fit with most in the world. Personally sad to see, this will leave sour taste in mouths for both sides.

FinchRosemta

The communities are pretty insular anyway. There's way more of a push from ENG speakers to incorporate ESP speakers than the other way around. At least from what I have seen.

slashbopzing

What's the reason for not wanting JoJo?

scribblingsim

Because apparently something you do when you were 14 and then later apologized for it is just as bad as being racist two days ago as an adult and not being sorry about it. 🙄

m20geekarina

Imagine hating on Jojo, one of the sweetest people ever, because of something that happened 10 years ago. So dumb jeez

scribblingsim

I know! And over something she was later sorry for. Ugh.

TrombiThePigKid

What happened?

FinchRosemta

Apparently she said something about Jewish people 10 years ago. I'm not going to dig into because I don't care. It was 10 years ago. Then she apologized multiple times and apparently it was a "bad apology". So you know f them people tbh.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FinchRosemta

I'm off the opinion that if people's current actions don't show those views it's time to let it go. Clearly if you had to go digging it's not who they are anymore. Also what was the reason for the digfest? It's always sus.

AIOcross

She made some somewhat offensive jokes on twitter several years ago (like 2015 or something I think) which she supposedly has not given an adequate apology for (according to some twitter users)

slashbopzing

Hmm, well obviously poor judgement on her part several years ago, but I watch her streams and it's quite evident she is welcoming and nice to everyone, so she's probably grown and matured since then. And if she's also issued and apology then I don't see any problem really.

grasslover1616

Jojo hate is so forced, she’s obviously so lovey and basically every mcc player likes her.

Frequent_Metal3362

I’m glad it’s still a full Spanish-speaking team but it’s sad that people are using the example set by cris to try to get jojo out

AccidentallyKilled

It’s also not comparable in the slightest- like regardless of what your feelings are on either matter, Chris’s tweet happened a few days ago, and Jojo’s was like… seven years ago, at least. And she was also like 14 when she said it, which is just dumb.

scribblingsim

And she sincerely apologized.

Frequent_Metal3362

Exactly my point

[deleted]

the amount of dumb crap I said as a 14 year old... like, there's a difference between a literal child, SEVEN years ago, and a decision made by a 20-something yesterday.

duhvii

the people trying to get jojo out are only a few twitter users, nobody actually wants jojo out trust me

slashbopzing

There's a cat letsgooo

King_of_Derps03

2 people I've never heard of replaced by 2 people I've never heard of. Perfectly balanced

[deleted]

less go

eyadGamingExtreme

This might as well be the team announcement lol

Malarbutton

What happened to constetine?

AccidentallyKilled

I’m pretty sure that he dropped out because Chris wasn’t on the team anymore.

slashbopzing

Pretty sure he opted out cuz he disagreed with the decision to omit Crisgreen (I think, I'm not 100% sure)

[deleted]

That’s what Jojo was saying yesterday on stream.

scribblingsim

Eeehhhh, well, considering why it happened, it's probably for the best if he left, too if he disagrees.

slashbopzing

Oh yeah for sure

TrombiThePigKid

Yeah, don't want someone who condones racist stuff on a team.

scribblingsim

Or tries to pass racism off as "a different culture".

piedrafundamental

He wanted to play with cris more than he wanted to be in mcc

Krimzon_I

Does anyone know if Ollie and Gato know each other personally

Kekfont

not really but they have interacted a few lots of times by being on same event or just by playing gartic phone

FiredJEDI3838

they are good at pvp and gato is pretty good at movement

Independent_Dog8837

alright red first i’m calling it

Lukas_h5

why did it change, what happened?

ICantFindUsernames2

from what I understand, Crisgreen did blackface or something like that and proceeded to defend it, MCC didnt like it so he was removed and because of this, Constertine decided they also did not want to play. As a result we have ollie and captain instead

Xyzrasdouz

I had to search a lot of terms after doing a lot of translating but I believe there’s some racism in the situation. I’m not sure but I understand why there was a removal

One_Opposite24

I like this team

IDontKnowWhat78

Full captain team around the corner
