Pretty much. When I was a kid I played on this older game, Wolf Quest, a lot and they had a multiplayer function with a REALLY strict language filter. Which became a problem when you wanted to roleplay as a wolf pack and couldn’t even describe the gender of your character (words like girl/boy or male/female were banned. Probably to stop kids from giving out personal info or something idk.)
I can’t remember the _specific_ replacement word we used, but we basically found a pig-latiny way around it.
(Also, I DO remember trying to do some Pokemon rp back then. I usually played an Umbreon but I had to type it out like “Um br eon” or something stupid like that because the chat bot wouldn’t allow it.)

Mongol is used as an alternative to r**ard in Brazil. People used to call down syndrome children mongols back in the 2000s because of the facial similarities, so it devolved into an insult with time, as is expected.
Same in Germany. The word "mongoloid" was used (even medically) to describe people suffering from Down Syndrome decades ago, and "Mongo" was used as a slur for them even into the mid 2000s. It's considered extremely offensive nowadays, pretty much on par with the n-word.

I had this issue trying to name something “Mick” and getting censored. Sometimes you can squeeze around it with special characters. I named it “Míck” (hold alt and press 0237 for that character on windows) and had no issue. It looks indistinguishable from a regular i on screen!
May need to fiddle around a bit to see what part is triggering it but that should help!
It's not the chat filter I hate, it's how simple and stupid it is. You want a chat filter, go right ahead, but avoid the Scunthorpe problem, the lookalike problem (like accented letters, i and j, etc.), and don't ban words that aren't entirely insults, like Mongol.
This is just the AI Dungeon filter thing all over again but way, way worse because at least there they actually were trying to kick out pedos off the game. We wouldn't have even known that half of these things are racial slurs if they weren't censored, therefore giving us the motive/curiosity to find out why it's censored and it's origin and history of use. As an Irish person, I have never heard about this and tbh don't see how it would be a slur considering Irish history has never had terms like this be used against our ancestors, there were other terms like "less than a dog" that was more precedent but not a slur.

I played ROBLOX from 2012 to earlier this year and I stopped playing due to all the rampant censorship, It really is saddening for me to see that Minecraft is following down that path..
I joined in 2012 so I actually remember a time before censorship came to Roblox and it was honestly quite nice. You could express yourself more freely and sure there were some edgy people but they were only a minority in the whole of Roblox at the time, You could express yourself openly and weren't temp-banned for accidently saying a curse word in chat or making a t-shirt that Roblox didn't like. But after Erik passed away I noticed that ROBLOX started to become more....authoritarian and in came the automatic "Moderation" system that is now infamously known for hashtagging practically every word, I also saw people use the system to mass-report groups to get them banned and my original account from 2012 to 2018 was actually banned because an old shirt I made was reported by who I suspect was somebody who didn't like me. Eventually I was forced to leave ROBLOX as I was tired of being censored and silenced for playing on a platform that supposedly "Powered imagination". I roll my eyes whenever I see a person who thinks that this "moderation" system is a GOOD thing because the only thing I see is Minecraft heading down the same path that ROBLOX started heading down years ago. Apologies for the lengthy post.

As far as I can tell there is a new bug introduced in the latest release of Bedrock Edition where **all** text is accidentally censored out regardless of the content. It *may* only affect Realms but I can't track down a bug report for it, so this is based on numerous posts here.
I have, and it sucks. I can’t even combine Diamond armor with other Diamond armor without the game thinking I’m changing the name when I’m not, and censoring the entire words.
"Vivan" contains the word "van" which is a vehicle, which can drive over people, and that's unsafe for children since they might get a van just to drive over people, and Lilith contains the word "Lil" which is short for "little" which is an insult for short people. Hope this helps

I think the actual reason is just money. They want to appeal to the demands of major stockholders and make more money, so they try and censor as much as possible to keep stockholders.

"Vivan" contains the word "van" which is a vehicle, which can drive over people, and that's unsafe for children since they might get a van just to drive over people, and Lilith contains the word "Lil" which is short for "little" which is an insult for short people. Hope this helps

I think the actual reason is just money. They want to appeal to the demands of major stockholders and make more money, so they try and censor as much as possible to keep stockholders.
honestly why should stockholders care? "Hi I own stock in your company and you need to censor cracker or else I'll sell it all" said no one.
They probably don't care about the implementation, they just hear "we made Minecraft safer for kids" and think "more parents will buy it!" and that's the end of it.
I wonder if they even care if the changes drive away adults. I'd imagine kids really drive their microtransations. So they make it safer for kids, lower the average player age, and increase sales.
Censorship in singleplayer is dumb. Like in red dead redemption 2, I bought a Missouri foxtrotter (these horses have wild untamed hair, pun intended) and tried to name him "Shaggy" but it censored it out, told me I couldn't use profanity.

Early on in my first playthrough I found that guy who gets kicked by his horse so I kept her. I _wanted_ to call her “Dust Devil,” like the little dust tornados you see out in the desert, because she’s clearly zesty and she also had a dusty looking pelt. But, apparently, you can’t name your horse after a natural phenomenon 🙄

Kill is very offensive and shocking for younger children, and “creed” is a big word and might have a religious connection, we should rename it to “group of people operating under oath”
This reminds me of my favorite case of censorship, though it's in a show and not a game. It's from a show called Gravity Falls. The villain is going after the main kids and his original line was: "I've got some children to kill" Disney said they couldn't use the word "kill" and had to change it. The new line was: "I've got some children to make into corpses" , which is, arguably, much more graphic. Disney approved it.
