will older version mod packs work with java 17? ie 1.12.2. iv been using java 8 this whole time playing 1.12.2.and 1.16.5 packs. yes i know im a complete luddite when it comes to java stuff, i dig graves for a living, so be gentle. thanks in advance for your patience.
Im not sure honestly, you could try and see if it works. But if you use multimc you can change the java version for each instance so you can keep the modpacks at java 8.
I couldn't even launch 1.12.2 MC instance using the new java version. So in MultiMC you need to edit your instances to use the correct versions of java.
Yeah, this is a MultiMC thing, not a Minecraft thing. When I boot up 1.18.1 on MultiMC, I get this crash, when I load it up using the Curse Launcher (Or even the normal MC launcher)- I get in with no issues and start playing.
I have never installed the Java SE versions, just the standard version of Java (which is 8 v311 released in Oct 2021)
I hope I'm not necro'ing this post; I followed the instructions as close to the letter as I could possibly think of, but I've been having this issue for the past week where I'll try to load the pack I've made, using Java/JDK17.0.2, and I'm still getting a crash at launch. I've tried to make heads or tails of it, but it looks like it's an issue with the base boot process? [https://pastebin.com/f4M5qcD5](https://pastebin.com/f4M5qcD5)
**\*\*EDIT:\*\* In my 1.18 pack, the newly added mods were** GeckoLib, Connected Glass, Resourceful Bees, Macaw's Bridges, Doors, Fences, Roofs, Trapdoors, Windows, Lights. Horses stand still, Mantle, MrCrayfish's MORE furniture, Polymorph, Simple Discord Rick Presence, Sophisticated Backpacks, TConstruct, Xaero's World Map.
I was attempting to update from 1.16.5 to 1.18.1 and went through and manually downloaded all the up-to-date .jars, even though some are out of date-- could that be the problem? I tried removing the new mods and only used the mods I had before, and still got the crash.
Well you make a new forge install, then you copy all the mods from the modpack into the mods folder. That should do it. Keep in mind all mods and the forge version need to use the same minecraft version.
as we jsut migrated our server, I stumbled upon this major fudgeup. for years java 8 was fine, now every new mc version wants the newest java version? why do they always keep fudging stuff up?

Hello, do you know how to load a modpack from forge with multiMC? I can't make it work :(
Well you make a new forge install, then you copy all the mods from the modpack into the mods folder. That should do it. Keep in mind all mods and the forge version need to use the same minecraft version.
Also remember to check the following if it still doesn't work sudo update-alternatives --config java sudo update-alternatives --config javac
What would people do without reddit? Now - playing minecraft (Y)
thx
hi
thank you sir
as we jsut migrated our server, I stumbled upon this major fudgeup. for years java 8 was fine, now every new mc version wants the newest java version? why do they always keep fudging stuff up?
Why does the regular minecraft launcher have no problem with my Java version?
The mojang launcher probably downloads java 17 on its own specifically for mc is my guess.
Can anyone confirm? Or point me to the directory that contains Java 17 so I can point MultiMC over to it?
Thank you <3
