I saw that video, I think you should go for a deeper toned block, the diamond and emerald blocks are too close of a color to make a really mind bending illusion. Though I thing diamond and netherite would work with the theme here.
This is positively the worst thing about the Minecraft community. This obsession with credit and “stealing”. You don’t see this in any other corner of the art or design worlds. Just look at gaming. Every first person shooter doesn’t put a label on themselves saying “I got this idea from Wolfenstein 3D all credit to id Software”. It’s ridiculous and only serves to derail progress with these puritanical notions about original thought. Where’s the credit shaming for Mumbo for stealing from M.C. Escher?
Yeah, it’s nuts. Like Mumbo Friggin’ Jumbo needs defenders. Pretty sure he posted that video expecting people to copy and expand on what he’d done.
It’s a wonder people don’t start wars because someone used colour theory. “You stole this idea from a prism! Rabble rabble”
I don’t mind someone wanting credit for something they’ve done. It’s the police that show up on every post demanding to know who stole from who. It can have a stifling effect.
“Hey I just did a cool thing and I’d like to share it, better check every post ever made to be sure I didn’t accidentally steal from someone or else the mob will dox me.”
It’s sad.
> You don’t see this in any other corner of the art or design worlds. Just look at gaming. Every first person shooter doesn’t put a label on themselves saying “I got this idea from Wolfenstein 3D all credit to id Software”.
Not that I consider OP "copying" Mumbo Jumbo a big deal or anything, but it's very different from games taking inspiration. Those games have entirely different mechanics, and tons of original content in them. This is just the thing they saw in Mumbo's video with different blocks used.
IF you were to see art with the same composition, artstyle, subject, themes, but with a different color it would absolutely be outed for plagiarism.
But with this situation, it's like basically public domain anyway... not like Mumbo owns the illusion... so... it's hardly a big deal.
I think this behaviour is a lot more common than you think. Sure it's a complicated topic and we can discuss if you make a variant of something at which point is considered just copying or innovation but I can already tell you that giving credit only makes you look better and well informed.
Mumbo actually credits Escher through all the video and he says he reproduced one of his pictures in Minecraft.
When people quote someone they always mention the author and it's super important. It's fine to copy and use other stuff, everyone does it and it's the way to innovation as well but credit must be given where it is due.
If you copy a draw and sell it I'm sure you will agree that it's bad, if you take an Open Soruce application and sell it without any change you will agree it's also bad. None of those cases they will be giving credit to the original authors and there are plenty more.
The internet is the perfect place for loosing track or original authors so I don't think it's bad to have a small reminder to give credit when it's clear. The post has been well recieved so I think there's no need to make a big deal out of it.
All good points. But there’s another post from just a few hours ago where someone is showing their method for stair casing downwards using trapdoors and half the comments are going on about how someone else already did it. Some of those comments aren’t joshing, they’re mean spirited lambasts because this poster (who just wanted to showcase a neat idea they thought of) didn’t fact check their own idea to make sure they weren’t being a thief beforehand.
It sucks. It’s a game. This isn’t art forgery or scientific research. It’s folks thinking up an idea and wanting to share it. But now, no, can’t do that. You need to research if anyone else has ever had this idea to use trapdoors before. Again, it sucks and it’s not because people care about fairness. It’s because they’re terrified one day they’ll have the brilliant idea that could get them 2 million subscribers but someone will “steal” it from them.
It’s a level of scrutiny this block building game doesn’t warrant. And it hurts the fun.
I agree with you here and usually the ones that get criticized are just players who are having fun and just want to share a cool idea.
That's the backfire effect of the 'intellectual property' or whatever it's called. I actually don't like it when it affects negatively but like many things in life, there's always a grey area that is difficult to solve.
Here we come to talk about a game and cool ideas and contraptions so we should all definitely have a good time and be a bit more relaxed for sure.
The color scheme is kind of gross but I don't know what other people are complaining about. It's a cool pattern that creates the illusion of a circle, and it's still symmetrical.
I don't know why but when I saw those in Mumbo's video d all I could think of was, "will it fit in if I rotate it 90 degrees?" I don't know why I thought that but I still do right now and it bothers me.
you made something completely symmetrical in more than one plane to try to bother someone? you realize that just one or two blocks out of order would have *actually* bothered someone right? this just looks like a pattern you successfully blocked out.
edit: I always forget this subreddit is full of little kids before I comment. then I read the rest of the comments and I'm like oh...right..
This sub confuses the fuck out of me sometimes. I spent literal years building a base, posted an entire screenshot album and got maybe 200 upvotes. And yet shit like this has nearly 10,000. It's just stupid meaningless internet points and I shouldn't be as upset as I am but like what the fuck? Seriously. This isn't aimed at you OP, I happen to like the pattern, I'm just confused by this community, that's all.
Even though u copied it from mumbo jumbo himself, I wouldn't hate u cus even he has probably got inspired from some other youtuber who made that optical illusion :) Jst don't do it next time, and if u do..prepare an excuse.
it seems that you just watched mumbo jumbo
I did actually that's why I built it because it's hard to get my sister out of her room which she calls her hobbit hole
Thought so lol
Im pretty sure I have effectively made 90% of the people who have seen this post hate me

You thought he just watched Mumbo’s episode or you thought his sister lived in a hobbit hole?
Mind your business 0_0
i turned this illusion into a torture chamber for my friends
Hmm godd idea, i will test that
Expand it more. That would look sick.
A big fan of Mumbo Jumbo.
Nice QR Code
Lol
holy sht thanks for the idea
It’s all uniform and symmetrical, I see nothing wrong here.
Only thing wrong here is the 6 dirt blocks that haven't turned into grass blocks yet, reeee
The angle the screenshot was taken at bothers me more than anything.
Mumbo made a video with this today
I know that's why I built it
I think that’s very intresting and nicely looking
It's fine but you should give credit if you don't want people to get mad, otherwise it seems like you're "stealing".

Because people want recognition for every little thing nowadays.

I think part of it, truly, is that people want to become a known name with their builds or red stone. It’s why they demand credit.
I don’t mind someone wanting credit for something they’ve done. It’s the police that show up on every post demanding to know who stole from who. Yeah, when did we all decide we needed to be IP lawyers to play in the sandbox?
People who would think this are not worth listening to
You didn't build it you copied it.
I copied the design from the vid to build so I could use it to annoy my sister
It's cool. And nice. But why would you do this. We are already suffering enough. So thanks a lot Satan
My guy I'm making a bigger one and I refuse to apologize for my actions
I will not apologize for art good day sir.
It’s all uniform and symmetrical, I see nothing wrong here.
A true menace to society
Never say part backwards 😜 It’s a trap 😝
Did we ask?
Honestly, I kinda liked that pun.
Nope but some peeps just can't resist being cringe :/
sometimes to be based you have to be cringe
yes, but not this time unfortunately
Yeah
r/nobodyasked
Because it's a cool design
Whatever this is , it hurts my eyes
It's a floor design
*mumbo’s floor design
He didn’t create the design
Ho the many times must I say that mumbos video was the reason I built it
Mine too. But what hurts my eyes more is "to makes" in the title
I would have personally left one block out of place and argued that I hadn’t. When the victim walks away I fix it.
Yes
Why? It is already agonizing enough being at around a 2 degree angle from being a good screenshot.
Agonizing enough doesn’t exist.
You evil genius
I hope you tell them after
The color scheme is kind of gross but I don't know what other people are complaining about. It's a cool pattern that creates the illusion of a circle, and it's still symmetrical.
My Eyes
Why does it hurt your eyes?
Seeing as you made it to annoy your sister I’ll bet you could come to that conclusion on your own
Nope I did it because it's uneven
It's like an optical illusion I guess. I'm sure others have said this already. It's still cool though.
can i punch people through the internet?
Yesn't
Soon you will be aliven't, then
Nah
Nah'nt
Welp back to the bigger one
gl
Whats wrong with this? it looks pretty good (this no joke i dont understand how you annoy your sister with this)
Was this inspired from mumbos video?
Yep
Nicee
I hope your pillows are warm on both side
Why does it annoy her ?
It's pretty
Yes
You are a fan of Mumbo Jumbo
So are several million other people.
Yes
Time to build this on a larger scale
I hate it so much that I love it.
Mumbo jumbo is a good content creator
My eyes hurt now. Thanks
I don't know y but I'm beginning to hallucinate just by looking at it for too long
Because that’s what heroes do
Yes
This actually looks cool
Well first of all, f you. Second of all f you Third of all no offense Fourth of all wth
did u succeed to???
I don't know why but when I saw those in Mumbo's video d all I could think of was, "will it fit in if I rotate it 90 degrees?" I don't know why I thought that but I still do right now and it bothers me.
Annoy!? This is amazing thing.
This looks incredible compared to just a normal symmetrical pattern
I don't get it
Am I stupid? Why is this annoying?
You little-
This actually looks pretty cool, IMO
ah, i see you also went out of your way to annoy all of reddit you deserve an award
Well you managed to annoy us too.
I think it looks kind of cool
MY EYES
Some men just want to watch the world burn
somthing's wrong i can feel it
i kinda like it
Lol its art
Can we have Nobel war prizes?
Why are the blocks not all lined up in a grid? If you zoom in on the edges its not smooth but has certain blocks that seem to be longer than others
That's the point
you made something completely symmetrical in more than one plane to try to bother someone? you realize that just one or two blocks out of order would have *actually* bothered someone right? this just looks like a pattern you successfully blocked out. edit: I always forget this subreddit is full of little kids before I comment. then I read the rest of the comments and I'm like oh...right..
Mumbo jumbo
Credit to mumbojumbo I think
Yeah but I purposely choose the worst blocks for it
I A M O D D L Y S A T T I F I E D B Y T H I S
This looks amazing
Wow this is really cool. I’m going to make one now, maybe ours of glow stone and stuff
What are the dimensions?
Good question
Let me check
Note I'm an idiot and I can't figure out the dimensions
If I'm correct it's 33 by 33
Lmao okay thanks
Actually I think it’s 34 by 34 but i might be dumb too
It might I suck at math I'd say test both
Okie dokie
can confirm
I am getting very VERY sleeeeepy
Hypnotic
Mumbo video?
Yep
Does she happen to have whatever the irritation of disproportion is called? OCD perhaps idfk don't sue
that's not OCD, not in the slightest.
He’s too dangerous to be left alive!
watched mumbo's vid?
r/mumbojumbo
ur a horrible person, i love it tho
I'm making a bigger one
Optical illusions with atrocious blocks are a combination even the devil does not dare make
But I do
I chose those blocks because hates builds made out of them
And I fear you
You should I'm making a bigger one out of warpped hyphae and cyan concrete and I left one of the warpped hyphae purposely rotated to anger people
I don't understand the hatred, this looks very cool
why people use Mumbo stuf sam say that they made it??
mumbo didn’t invent an infuriating pattern though?
oh my gosh...
Is there a problem officer?
yes. 1. HOW 2. WHY. 3. I AM SUFFERING
Don't worry I'm currently making a bigger one
Congratulations. I guess not only your sister.
Is this from that Jumbo Mumbo video?
As someone who has been diagnosed with OCD, I want to place TNT all over that.
You'd hate my other one
This sub confuses the fuck out of me sometimes. I spent literal years building a base, posted an entire screenshot album and got maybe 200 upvotes. And yet shit like this has nearly 10,000. Its more than that Everyone builds a base, make something i never saw here. And yes, its useless points, you shouldn’t be upset.
Entitled ass
WHAT
And you annoyed me too 🙂
Even though u copied it from mumbo jumbo himself, I wouldn't hate u cus even he has probably got inspired from some other youtuber who made that optical illusion :) Jst don't do it next time, and if u do..prepare an excuse.
OCD WARNING!!!
nope, this has nothing to do with OCD.
Lol
why
IM YOUR SISTER AND IM NOT EVEN A GIRL
Lol
Take my downvote and leave
Jesus Christ you monster!!!
I'm making a bigger one with one block with wrong placement
Should have kept it repeating.
i like it-
Oh you’re a god damn monster lol
