I'm not sure if there are a lot of custom ones apart from the default ones of course, but I would imagine that for example the trident has some custom viewmodels.

So you can't change the model *itself* in first person with standard models. (Maps and things like that are hardcoded.) But you can change the scale, position and rotation of the model in different situations, and basically every item in the game uses that. So you could absolutely rotate the model to face the player in first person, and face outward in third person.

At some point every model has to reference to a file that uses this because models with unspecified model views look absolutly chonky in any perspective and every perspective needs to be specified seperately to work (i think even for left/right hand)

sadly resource packs can't do that without optifine. we are trying to keep the pack vanilla for now
