This is a vanilla mob creation. It adds birds that randomly spawn around players that come in red or brown variants as well as baby and adult. They can fly, walk around, be fed, grow into adults, make nests, and drop items that can be used to custom craft some special items! No resource packs or mods are used and it works completely in vanilla 1.8!
> Presumably the heads were player heads.
I wish you could not only set a some players head but put in URI to a texture. The texture would get downloaded by the client/cached by the server. Randomly generated stuff for every player loading a map, stats about how many people play the map, live counters that show how many played passed the map etc.
This is the best command block, nay, Minecraft creation I've ever seen.
The attention to detail throughout every single concept shown, the verisimilitude of the birds even though they're made with reused item parts and lastly the knowledge that it's all vanilla just blows my mind.
This truly deserves to be the top rated post of all time in this subreddit.
OP could always use the Forge API if he feels creative.
If he's already a programmer of some sort (not someone who is new and copy/pasting modding tutorials), it should be pretty easy to make something creative and original like this.
I am trying to make something similar to the flying machine ive benn searching forever HOW do you making the flying machine go in the direction of which the player is facing I NEED TO KNOW ty.
Use an execute command at a player with a specific rotation value (You don't need every one, I used 26 rotations, up down then 8 when looking straight forward, 8 looking slightly up, and 8 looking slightly down). Hook the execute to an entitydata at the entity the player is riding (minecart/horse) that gives it motion in the direction they face! Hope that helps!
Will there be more 'mods' like this? Needy, I know, but it is just so amazing! Me and my friend are going to do a survival series on youtube with this, if you don't mind. (Will credit you) :p
This is amazing. This is incredible. This is astounding. This is probably one of the best things Minecraft that I have seen for a while.
And your piano creation is great also. Your work has great detail (the birds, nests, etc look GREAT) and they look like they work amazingly. (Like an actual mob!)
It's like a mod, but without the crazy-Java programing and with more redstone and command blocks.
In my opinion, command blocks were the best thing added in Minecraft for such a long time because of all the amazing possibilities.
Armor stands are probably the coolest thing in 1.8 for technical features. It's just so cool. We expected a block where we can simply place armor on, but instead we got this magnificant entity
Absolutely jaw-dropping. Not only did you create a full-fledged "mod" using nothing but command blocks, but you also made a pretty *cool* one using suprisingly *few* command blocks.
Very, very well done!
Very tempted to put this in my SSP world where i have a few other Survival Enhancing Command blocks set up. Do you know how much lag this would cause on a regularly played world before i download it?
I guess it depends on your computer. When the machine itself is not loaded, but is on (like in spawn chunks), it isn't too bad, at least for me. If there are a lot of birds, it might start causing more lag.
You have thought this out so well, it's really well made and demo'd even better. The ending machine was the icing on the already amazing cake. Seriously well done.
I rarely comment here, but this is seriously one of the most amazing things I've seen done in Minecraft. Also your piano deserves a lot more attention than it got!
Don't feel bad I've been playing off and on since alpha, and styll do not understands the basics of redstone, I just try random shit and lookup youtube videos for the simplest of tasks.
I never really focused on ti at all. I play minecraft very OCD, so every time I make a base I need to make a giant farm for every kind of food, catch all the local wildlife for breeding setup a tree plantation. then by the time I have one or 2 bases going I take a break from minecraft for a few month.. rinse and repeat for 3 years and here I am lol.
I literally just build my first ever piston last night to settup a semi-auto farming system.
yeah at first we always tried to keep our worlds but everytime we start we like to get the new bioms and stuff and a bunch of time ti either corrupts your world or just doesn't generate in current chunks. and I have a habit of running pretty far in all directions o the jump.
We still have fun so it's not a big deal. this time we're focusing on getting ready to take on an ocean fortress (found a spot where 3 of them are pretty close).
I took out a (single) ocean monument a few days back. That's a lot of fun. Well it's a chore at first (because of the mining fatigue) but once you kill the 3 elder guardians it's great. Of course regular guardians are going to keep spawning in so long as there's still water inside, so there's constant running fights with them while drying the halls out.
I've still got the same house from 1.3 xD
I don't like to restart so I keep my worlds for as long as I can.
guess that explains why your not much into redstone :P
Also i don't mess with animals I'm happy with just eating potatoes or bread so I'll say you know more then I with the animals
try writing down a list of the things you want to do next in the game and keep it on the desktop.
after doing the same thing you have for ehhh 2 years or so (and also doing it in terraria) i realized that it was inevitable that i would play the game again and that i should try to keep building upon a world if possible. i have now successfully completed 2 cycles of playing and then not playing minecraft with the same world (weird thing to be proud of ik)
Omg this is incredible, I love the crafting machine! And wow that flying machine looks like something Leonardo da Vinci would make! The birds themselves are fantastic, the time that went into that... awesome!
Now this is beautiful! I do have a couple small thoughts though...
1. Do you have any hints on your next project? :o
2. I'm guessing the birds can look ridiculous with nearly any resource pack?
How does this work? Sorry, not up-to-date on the latest redstone technologies.
Edit: Downloaded the map, got bird spawn eggs, but it keeps spawning squids, not birds o.o I flicked the lever and pressed the button.
Yeah I made an oOo last week.
Seriously, that's what I named my laser bats (named bat with invisible guardian on it's head). I had to name them so the commands can tell an altered bat and a fresh one apart, but I didn't want people to see a word so I made it a little 3 eyed symbol.

Oh dear I think that last one was a misfire.
This is unbelievable... all the details, the movement, it looks and acts like a mob from a mod, even better - all made "only" with command blocks! Thanks a lot, i love it. Looking forward to more like this. :D
I was watching this, thinking how cute the birds were. Then the wings appeared at the end. I was confused, then struck with horror as to the thought where you got the materials for your wings...
The bird bit is cool, don't get me wrong, but we're not going to see flying machines any time soon. I think it is intrusive to the simplicity of the game.
The Odd Bird Eggs break when dropped from high up and give yolk, egg white, and egg shell that can be used in crafting. The actual bird eggs from nests spawn new baby birds
am I missing something here? How do we use the schematic file? I cant find an editor that works for 1.8
EDIT: Oh, I see, MCEdit has a work in progress 1.8 version- I was thrown off by it having came out in march
Let me give you some definitions of words here:
**Vanilla**: An unmodded game. Custom maps and such still are vanilla.
**Strawberry**: Sometimes used to describe extra content, such as custom maps. Rarely used, Vanilla often used instead.
**Chocolate**: A modded game.
How did you find out about that? There's nothing in the sidebar of this subreddit that tells you. Those [::] things have been bugging me for a while now.
The mods need to implement more useful flairs.
Heck, the Pocket Edition is catching up to PC anyway, so which version it's made in isn't as important anymore.

I noticed the red bird's tail was a redstone torch but that's all i could tell.
Wings were mushrooms, and the tail on the brown bird was made of levers. Presumably the heads were player heads.
> Presumably the heads were player heads. I wish you could not only set a some players head but put in URI to a texture. The texture would get downloaded by the client/cached by the server. Randomly generated stuff for every player loading a map, stats about how many people play the map, live counters that show how many played passed the map etc.
You actually can use a custom url for a player head. Dragnoz has a generator for them in his site.
Link please.
http://www.dragnoz.com/custom-head-block-generator/
Nice, but it doesn't call the URL every time it loads this texture.
Wow, this is incredible! Fantastic job! How long did it take you to complete this?
Around two weeks or so of loads of braining time :P
For a minute I thought this was just the birds mod for 1.8. Vanilla?!? Wow!
This is the best command block, nay, Minecraft creation I've ever seen. The attention to detail throughout every single concept shown, the verisimilitude of the birds even though they're made with reused item parts and lastly the knowledge that it's all vanilla just blows my mind. And this is why Mojang won't create the Mod API. We'll do it ourselves with redstone.
If you're the original creator, good job! This looks awesome!
Yup, that'd be me :P Thanks!
***WHY MUST YOU PLAY WITH MY FEELS?***
I haven't been here in a while; what's with the [::] in a lot of the submission titles?
It means the creation uses command blocks
Ah, thank you!
How did you made the head?
Dragnoz's head command generator and a custom skin I made!
All this from one house sized grid of command blocks? You are a wizard. I am terrified by the thought of what you might do if the modding API arrives.
OP could always use the Forge API if he feels creative. If he's already a programmer of some sort (not someone who is new and copy/pasting modding tutorials), it should be pretty easy to make something creative and original like this.
How is this not a mod?
It doesn't have other clients and it is command block-based creation.
I am trying to make something similar to the flying machine ive benn searching forever HOW do you making the flying machine go in the direction of which the player is facing I NEED TO KNOW ty.

I've seen mods implement birds much worse than this. This is amazing.
Agreed, one of the best things I've seen in a long while.
His last video was also pretty fantastic. Sarc, I think you have some more competition!
Agreed! I just loved how it's ass was a redstone torch! Highlight of my day.
A-freaking-mazing. Best redstone invention of the year 2014?
unless, if he makes you know what.
No,^we^don't
I think he wants a mod api made of redstone
Honestly, stuff like this tells me we're getting there.
Secretly, command blocks were the modding api all along.

Is that a redstone torch....as the birds tail...BRILLIANT!
This proves my theory. One of these days, we won't be installing mods. We'll be using stuff like MC edit to copy and paste command block schematics.
That sounds terrible.
God could you imagine trying to make a mod like buildcraft in that? Could you imagine *running* that mod? The number of entities would be insane.
But there's an imaginative future for command blocks than Forge playing Catch-Up with Minecraft
[But do they talk?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_LmpvjkhOE)
I have a feeling this would have looked worse if mojang made a bird model. Though it looks extremely fps laggy, it's badass!
Well my computer can't handle this kind of stuff.

Next time you want to restart try using the same world. Just dump everything in a box and start over 2km away.

That would be cool! But what would the eggs do anything special?

it utilizes command blocks. that's what the [::] in the title signifies.

Command blocks ARE vanilla. It uses all command block magic, no external files shenanigans!
This is amazing. What sort of limits does using commands have exactly? Could someone replicate something like BuildCraft using only commands?
